well now I want to see your teacher's reaction to the 50-page binder that covered only our wedding traditions (made by my friend as a gift to another friend bc she was invited to her first arab/palestinian wedding), from the henna night, to Katib el Kitab, to the Surat Al Fatiha night, to the many dress and hair and food traditions that relate to celebrations, the songs and chants we all have memorized for every wedding, the Bride Zaffa and the Dabkeh and the Zaghareet (Ululation), etc etc.. sighh i miss the weddings. may the people inside Gaza someday have enough peace and joy to be able to celebrate again.
head empty no thoughts only gorgeous palestinian thobes
the details!!! the colors!! and all hand-embroidered!
and the use of the patterns on jackets and blazers are just *chefs kiss* gorgeous, and the accessories,,, so small but made with so much love and care
anyways, support palestinian-owned fashion businesses <3
Deerah, Falastini Brand, Dar Noora, Anat, Balady Stitch, and more and more and more
+ a bit of a crash course on the historical value of thobes for whoever is interested, here
hi! you made the post about the Palestinian thobes, i love that post and i was looking to buy some pieces, however since they come from Gaza and they're currently under bombardment i was wondering if you know if it's ok to still purchase from there? because i don't want to put any pressure on the stores to send out stuff while they're literally at war. i wanted to ask some of the stores but i don't have an instagram to ask them. thanks!
I'm sorry, but I have no idea. I follow a few on instagram (namely Balady Stitch and Anat) plus a few stitching groups and artists and..I would expect it to be a while until production goes back to normal. Even the people who are safe, or outside of Gaza, have friends and family that theyre worrying about/mourning.
Anat's website is still running but has a warning that all orders might be delayed, which makes sense since Isr*el are blocking anything from going into or out of Gaza. Bastards.
Anyways, I also know some brands such as Deerah are based in other countries, as they were made by palestinian refugees. It might be worth checking out their websites.
I call this piece: you've been up since 6 and you have to prepare for your next class but the only thing you can think of is your warm cozy bed so you stare at a wall for an hour. or something
[ID: digital painting at night, with a well-lit stone house and a cascading tree. only a corner of the house is visible, and the lights in the windows are on. There's very few stars in the sky.]
I bought a new wallet (plain black) bc my old one is falling apart, and I want to paint on it to customize it but I'm struggling to fight the urge to paint moomins once again. I want to branch out but :( moomin :( white blob cute :(
