Health and Safety eat your heart out....... 100s of Kites, lanterns and fireworks going off for hours on end. Some scarily close to your head but a truly unbelievable sight.
Only in India......

So now we’d like to introduce you to our main tailors. These are the men behind our dressing gowns, nighties and much, much more.
Romy and his brother Rajneesh are the owners and the boys in charge. Once again, we are treated with such a welcome every time we set foot into their shop. Copious amounts of sweet coffee are consumed to help with the decision-making.
BC is our head tailor. We spend hours with him going over every last centimetre to make sure everything is just right.

The Samode Haveli
In the heart of bustling Jaipur, The Samode Haveli is tucked away down a side street in the ‘Old City’. In our eyes it is an oasis of calm in an otherwise very hot and sweaty city!
In the past year we’ve luckily managed to spend quite a lot of time there. So when we arrived this time we were treated like long lost friends.
Samode used to be a privately owned manor house for the Royal family but has since been restored into a charming hotel, beautifully managing to retain all it’s original style and elegance.
They do a great bloody mary and the food is delicious (the Dal Makhani being a big favourite)
For us, its the people that work there that make the Haveli so wonderful. A special mention has to be made to Tapash Thapa, one of the fabulous waiters in the restaurant. Whether it was force feeding us an extra waffle at breakfast, remembering exactly what we liked, or generally just having a good chinwag, he is ace, as is the rest of the team. So thank you.
We cant wait till next time.

London - Delhi
Flight time 7.25pm.
Feeling both excited and a little apprehensive about our upcoming week in Jaipur. Our only slight worry was the possible monsoon weather and this kind of worry is one that comes quite naturally to the British anyway.
Having now done this journey quite a few times, we are no more organised than our first ever trip. No taxi to pick us up from the airport and not hotel booked for our stay in Jaipur....... What a good start!
* tip 1 - Indian Love Guide will always save the day http://www.lovetravelguides.com/is/buy-now *
Having taken full advantage of the free miniature bottles of red wine, we land at Delhi airport feeling a little jaded. Lucky for us passport control and baggage reclaim was a breeze, and before we knew it we were bundled into a taxi by Azar, our new trusted driver. We wiggled our way through the Delhi rush hour to Nehru market where we stumbled straight into fabric heaven.
Keeping sugar levels high with cup after cup of chai we rummaged through floor to ceilings piles of fabric. Midday heat, August temperatures and a lack of sleep made decision making that little bit trickier. Finally 3 hours later we weaved through the crowds laden with fabric to find Azar snoozing happily under a shaded tree.
Delhi - Jaipur
If you have ever travelled by road in India our Delhi - Jaipur trip would appear very normal.
- Cars hurtling down the motorway the wrong way
- Trucks and lorries spilling over with hundreds of people
- The odd cow bringing the traffic to a complete halt
- The motorway suddenly disappearing into a single dusty rubble road
- AND then the token stop at your taxi driver’s, uncle’s mother’s friend’s son’s restaurant.
6 hours later we arrive in Jaipur........ PHEW.
