A NEW HOME

This blog has officially moved from Tumblr to WordPress. This site will remain available for use (as long as Tumblr doesn’t delete it), but all new content will be posted there.

While the new site is usable, it’s important to note that it will still be under construction for the foreseeable future. There are quite a few things that need altered and updated in order to re-create and improve upon elements there. Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience as I continue working on the site in order to make it as user-friendly as possible.

Anonymous asked: hi! i'm sorry to bother you about this but i saw you uploaded your blog to wordpress and i had a question since i'm trying to do the same thing: do you know if posts you make after your blog is imported will still automatically be uploaded to wordpress?

Hi there! No, it appears that anything you post on Tumblr after you have imported your blog to WordPress does not automatically post there too. There are plugins available on WordPress to allow you to do that, but you have to have a Business Plan (which you have to pay for) in order to use them. However, I have just found out that you can use an applet on IFTTT to connect your Tumblr to your WordPress and vice versa in order to auto post. You might want to look into that to see if it fits your needs. I hope that helps!

EDIT: I just tried using the IFTTT applet with this post and it messes the formatting up a bit, but it does work.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

In case you missed it the last week, I have been in the process of moving the blog to WordPress following Tumblr’s announcement last week. While there is still a lot of work left to be done, I feel comfortable announcing that the blog will officially be moving to its new home and begin posting new recs this Saturday, December 15th.  I will share the link to the new site on Saturday morning, Eastern Standard Time. The site here on Tumblr will remain up and available, but all new content will be posted on WordPress.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM THE BLOG’S NEW HOME?

All of the positives that were applicable here on Tumblr will still be present on WordPress, along with a few added benefits thrown in. 

All of the fic recs that were posted over the last (nearly) two years have already been imported to the new site. They will not be lost in the transition.

The Tags Index page, which allows for easy browsing of fic recs based on a variety of categories, has already been created and completed.

There is no tag limit on WordPress. This allows for a more widespread and accurate organizational system than Tumblr, which will make it easier to navigate the recs that have already been posted as well as those to come.

WordPress also utilizes categories, which will be featured in the sidebar alongside each page and will make it easier to browse through recs and administrative posts at a broader level.

WHAT WILL STILL BE UNDER CONSTRUCTION?

While the site will be usable, it’s important to note that it will still very much be under construction for the foreseeable future. There are quite a few things that need altered and updated in order to re-create and improve upon elements from the site here on Tumblr.

The formatting of every post was altered when it was imported to WordPress. I am currently in the process of fixing it, but this will take some time.

The tags linked within the recs will not transition to other pages on the new site. I am currently working on altering them so they eventually will but, in the meantime, if you scroll to the bottom of the recs you can click on the tags linked there to browse them on the new site.

I am also working on re-creating a few other pages that were on this site, which allowed readers to browse fic recs by series, author, and fandom event. 

Thank you in advance for sticking with me through this transition, as I attempt to preserve this collection of recs, as well as for your patience as I continue working on improving the new site and its organizational system. Stay tuned for the link on Saturday!

WORDPRESS BACK-UP UPDATE

The good news? After 74 hours, the blog has finally been imported to WordPress. The bad news? None of the formatting or tags went with their corresponding posts. I’ll be spending the weekend starting to put that back in order. I’ll share the URL sometime next week, once I get things a bit more organized and user-friendly. I’m honestly just glad that there’s a back-up now. I will happily deal with the rest. Stay tuned for more updates! I’ll provide them as soon as I can.

Nope, I got this lovely, generic email with absolutely no information in it whatsoever.

It was actually the exact same one that I received when I first submitted my support request, which you can see below.

I was really confused when I got the one yesterday since I hadn't submitted another support request, but I decided to try searching for the blog's URL in the event that something had changed and lo and behold it showed up. I didn't change anything on my end, so it had to be something on theirs. I have no idea why it was hidden originally or what they did to reverse it.

Thanks so much for letting me know about this! I double-checked and you’re right; the blog’s URL isn’t showing up in Tumblr searches (but it is showing up via Google and Bing). I have no idea why. I checked its visibility settings and it’s not marked as hidden or explicit, so it should come up. I have contacted @support and am waiting for an answer. I’ll share any information I get as it becomes available. Hopefully it’ll be taken care of relatively quickly. Thanks again!

UPDATE: I'm currently backing up the blog in its entirety to WordPress. If I have to move the blog permanently, I'm not sure it would be a good long-term fit (I've actually been playing with Dreamwidth and think it would work better for that due to its large, built-in tagging system), but in the event that the blog suddenly gets deleted or posts get flagged for some reason everything will still exist there. I'll share the link as soon as I have it. Thanks for your patience and understanding as I do my best to take precautions.
