This is one of my favorite portraits that I have taken. It was part of my project called “The Things That Affect Our Lives Every Day”, a series about those individuals in Arizona working to bring about immigration policy reform.
This series of portraits was shot in 2012-2014 using an 8x10 view camera with black and white film. This was the first time I had extensively used such a camera. At the time, I wanted to use different equipment as a way to change the process of how I work and approach portraiture. Before I started the project I had a clear idea about the look and feel I was trying to achieve with the lighting, film and subject matter.
I ended up using the view camera to create a number of photos for this project. I experimented with traditional 8x10 black and white film and also the Impossible Project instant 8x10 film.

New book from our adventures last spring in New Mexico... a sort of road trip journal and sketchbook. Maisy contributed drawings and few photos from heather this time in addition to mine. My favorite part is seeing the process to completion from shoot to edit to printed document. Here are a few of my favorite spreads.

Spent the last couple of days making prints at the studio while updating my portfolio. There is a nice sort of solitude that I embrace when working long days at the studio. I’m looking forward to sharing the new work over the next few months. #makingprints #alwayscreate #studiosolitude #markpeterman #printyourphotographs (at First Studio)
