So excited to announce the POWER Zine: Volume II - power plays open call for submissions!
Submissions are open for Volume II of the POWER Zine - power plays  We seek submissions for this zine based on the concept of power plays and how it affects our own individual power. The POWER Zine is an ongoing project of the POWER artwork by MelimeL (2008) and the creative writing and art it continues to inspire.
THEME: Volume II of the POWER Zine will focus on concepts of power, its uses and implications. Some ideas/prompts could be a time when you felt powerful or powerless; what does tapping into our own individual power look or feel like? What role does empowerment play in your life?
CRITERIA: Accepting typed or handwritten writing (poetry, short stories, essays, etc), visual art (drawing, illustrations, photography, etc) and more.
The zine will be curated by MelimeL, the artist behind the Power artwork. Submitted works must be original, and ready for inclusion in the zine as is. All selected participants will receive a copy of the zine!
DEADLINE: Monday, June 10, 2024

Inspired by the essay collection The Right to Have Rights and the theory of political theorist Hannah Arendt, the 2nd Annual Nou Akoma Nou Sinèrji Haitian Dominican Transnational Symposium will delve into the underpinnings of rights and their divestment: belonging, disallowance, invisibility, dignity, exclusion, uprootedness, vulnerability.
Dominicans Love Haitians Movement invites artists, performers, panels, and podcasts to submit proposals* related to the aforementioned topics that center Haitian and/or Dominican voices and stories.

Sometimes life leads to moments where the healthiest thing you can do is to let go of that (relationship, job, fill in the blank) that is no longer serving you. Part of self-awareness and doing healing/trauma work is identifying patterns and behaviors that don't support your well-being or connect to your highest self. There is always choice in moving on and deciding you deserve better (from yourself, a partner, a place, a thing, etc) 💖🌺🌿

The last couple of years have been challenging for me as I navigate my mental health and ongoing healing journey. Through this process, I have learned so much and grown in leaps and bounds. I realized that to truly find peace and wellness, you must face your inner struggles with courage and resilience. There is no escaping the inner work required to heal from past and present wounds; the only way out is through; through introspection and confronting difficult emotions and challenges head-on. As difficult as this journey might be, the rewards are worth every bit of the pain processed, released, and let go.
A commitment to trauma and healing work are a testament to your desire to step forward and reclaim control over your own well-being. Whether through therapy or active growth and self-awareness, there are many ways to get through the healing journey with grace, support and hope every step of the way. You are worth it 💖🌺🌿

Sometimes what the mind and body needs is to rest, and resting is an essential part of overall well-being and self-care. Sometimes there is pressure to "go, go, go" and "do, do, do" but we weren't meant for overstimulation and overwhelm. The dance between productivity and fulfillment in one's work is recognizing that rest is part of the success. Feeling burnout is unhealthy and leads to less motivation, even for the things we enjoy. Allow rest to takeover without guilt, your body will thank you and you will feel better and more productive in the long run 💖🌺🌿

What are you claiming for the rest of 2023? October is here and since it's my birthday month, it's a time of year where I assess closely the direction my life is taking and whether I am headed where I want to go. The last couple of years have been a deep dive into my own personal healing/trauma work, therapy, self-awareness and growth, and it has been LIFE CHANGING! I have grown exponentially while still a work in progress. What I claim is continued healing and peace of mind, because without it, nothing else falls into place as it should. Everything starts from within 💖🌺🌿

Change is not always an easy thing to experience. Often times change is forced upon us in ways we may not have been prepared for, anticipated, or want. Why does change feel painful to go through sometimes? Perhaps it is the unknown associated with it, the routine of being used to things as they've always been threatened, or resisting change because it is uncomfortable. However, the one constant in life is change, and the more we adapt to change instead of resist it, the easier it becomes to flow through life and reap the benefits of growth. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, wiser, and more adaptable 💖🌺🌿

As someone who deals with anxiety, this quote is a reminder to let go and let things unfold without the mental and emotional anguish of stress. Easier said than done, but in mindful practice it is very freeing! Self-awareness is everything when it comes to mental health and changing patterns of behavior for better ones that contribute to the healthy regulation of the nervous system. Activities that help me calm my nerves and reduce anxiety are long walks and being by the water. Listening to the body and allowing all the feelings and emotions to pass through without resistance is key for those moments of life chaos. While many of us might suppress those uncomfortable feelings because it provides temporary relief and a sense of "handling it" in reality, suppression causes more damage than good to our overall well-being in the long run, leading to chronic stress, disease, unhealed trauma and more. So yes, relax, everything is out of your control, and it feels so good not carrying the heavy load of worrying! 💖🌺🌿

So how do we make the best of it as much as possible? In the ups, savor the joy in grateful abundance. In the downs, find strength in resilience and remind ourselves that every storm eventually passes, making way for clearer skies. Practice grace and self-compassion.
Manage through these seasons by staying adaptable and open to change. Adaptability is the secret weapon in the face of life's uncertainties. Be patient, and trust your inner resources to weather any storm.
