Hi i follow ur mademoisemuder tumblr account and I really like how smooth your lineart is especially the black & white manga style and regular linework.would you be willing to share your brushes or brush settings? A photo works to. I use clip studio & I’ve been dying to draw smooth lineart like you do! And your knife girl oc, to die for! A friend said she uses a brush size of around 6-7 with no taper and adjusts her pen pressure settings, dunno how she does it, how is your brushes settings like? I’m a iPad person and I recently got a screen moniter but it’s a whole different experience switching from procreate iPad to PC. Please share your ways por favor , -art anon

I use Clip Studio too! I use it on PC with a tablet (regular, not screen), so idk how well my settings will translate for you but I'm happy to share regardless!!

First of all, and importantly: a lot of it is muscle memory and training that comes naturally as you continuously do lineart. With time, you'll notice that the bigger swoops and long lines/curves that form a smooth line will start to come more naturally to you simply because your hands get used to the motion and you don't have to actively think about it anymore. Hands are cool like that.

(but also sometimes a stroke just takes 15 attempts regardless. Strg+Z is your best friend.)

As for the brushes I use, I'll put them under a readmore (got a bit lengthy)

First, for a rough reference/guide regarding the brush sizes, I usually sketch on the base A4 layout with 300 dpi, but I sketch small and not page-filling. Here's a thumbnail so you get a rough feel for their size on an A4 page.

Also I recently adjusted my pen pressure settings a little (under File - Pen Pressure Settings) so it now looks like this, but it used to be the default until a little while ago though!

Onto the actual brushes:

Most of the stuff on KG's blog is drawn with the Maa Brush from the CSP Asset store, so for example this, this and this were all done using the Maa Brush. I use it to sketch and line, usually on size 5-10, these are my settings:

Next, for very thin delicate lineart I like to use the Favorable Pen from the Asset store, which I used here for example. I use around size 20 for it (I don't use a lot of pressure so the line comes out quite thin)

For a lot of my more rendered art I use the basic Mapping Pen in Clip. I used it for example for the recent story-arc update in asksds or for this. I generally use size 6-10.

Back when I used SAI I had a brush called the Ballpoint Pen which I THINK I made myself in Clip (I at least couldn't find it again under that name in the asset store but I'm sure there are a dozen brushes like it) which is just a basic brush without pen pressure. I often use that one to get me out of a rut or to force me to focus on simpler shapes since it does kinda need you to be a little controlled to keep everything readable. I used it here and here for example. I use it at size 3 but keep in mind that I draw small.

I guess I could also mention that for most of the regular asks in asksds I use the Simple LineArt pen from the Asset store. There's no significant difference to the Mapping Pen, I just feel like the tips aren't quite as delicate as the Mapping Pen and I prefer that for sds...it might be an illusion though.

And we're done, those are the main brushes I use for lineart! Occasionally I try something different (like a G-Pen for a more textured look) but these ones are my regulars. I hope it helps!! (❁´◡`❁)

Most likely some kind of animalistic shapeshifting to tap into the advantages of different species, with the downside being that her body can only support the change of additional functions and bodyparts for a limited amount of time (that can be lengthed by training and a good meal first)

She did not! Envy 2.0 has goggles to cope with confidence-issues - when she feels fairly secure about her lack of eyes they are up, when she feels insecure they are down. An improvement over 1.0.

Doodle of a new OC! His name is Orest. I originally wanted to draw out the additional cast around him first but I'm desperate to talk about him and his world so (putting it under the cut because I will ramble)

His setting is a dystopia with an extreme class divide (the poor lower class and the noble wealthy upper class) in which he was born into the lower class to a woman named Eris, who influenced a lot of his later behaviours (I will talk about her at a later day but I have been thinking about her a lot).

When she died (after his father had died before Orest was even born) Orest was on the brink of death too, being a child left alone in an uncaring world, but he got picked up by the GAF-Program (Government-assigned Friend), a flimsy excuse of a policy made to make it seem as if people from the lower class could advance to upper class, where street children from the lower class got picked up, put into a program to filter out candidates to be assigned friends for the children of the nobles, with the rest dumped back onto the streets and the winning participants living a life of luxury and the constant threat of getting sent back if they don't comply. As a consequence, most of them abandon their past and just relish in the luxury without shaking the boat.

Orest happened to get picked up by a most vital GAF-program, that being the one for the son of the Prime Minister (the dictator of the system) called Eros. Since Orest was already good at reading situations thanks to his mother, he managed to display the desired qualities and get picked.

Eros didn't like Orest at first, rejecting the idea of being told to be friends with some other kid, and was quite rude, almost bullying Orest for a while, but Orest kept sneaking around him and was impossible to shake (knowing that this would be his only shot at a good life) so over time Eros gave in and started to try and accept and play with Orest, which resulted in them becoming friends after all.

Flash forward and they grew up, still close friends, and in fact Eros had fallen in love with Orest. However, Orest grew up to be a bad person. He's manipulative and still sneaky, always carrying a smile so nobody can read his emotions and real thoughts, he lies constantly to everybody and has no loyality to either the streets he came from or the nobles who took him in. While he enjoys the life of luxury and privilege, and especially the privilege that comes from being the friend of the quasi-crown prince and future Prime Minister, he also yearns to just wreck everything...some day.

Eros isn't much better, also manipulative and very entitled, with little empathy for the people around him, and him and Orest bond in that way, but their relationship is...complicated. As said, Eros is in love with Orest, which Orest knows (Eros told him at some point), but the mutuality is up in the air. Orest doesn't love Eros, but he loves being loved by Eros and it's something he wants to keep. So whenever Eros seems to be pulling away in any way, Orest throws him crumbs of affection to make sure he stays, and Eros eats them up every time (the crumbs aren't much to begin with, since Orest has a hard time with physical contact and hates being perceived, so they are like...a handtouch, but a starving man like Eros will feel fed either way.)

Also, Orest is ace, but Eros is very much not and he does have physical needs and the occasional fling, which is something Orest is aware of and generally doesn't mind, sure of Eros' feelings. But Orest doesn't not feel a sting of jealousy when he finds somebody else in Eros' bed, though it wouldn't be quite right to describe it as romantic jealousy. It's complicated and Orest doesn't quite understand it either. But the baseline is, Eros like Orest and Orest likes power, and they have a weird somewhat toxic relationship with each other, underneath which they are actually genuine friends who are horrible manipulative people to others.

I've been listening to the soundtrack of that ongoing musical project Epic: The Musical, and I have so many thoughts I really need to ramble to get them out of my system finally so

I will admit that on my first impression I found it a little too popsong-y and disconnected, I found it to be lacking the more showtune style music I tend to gravitate towards more with musicals and the background tracks being more pop-beat-focused didn't give me a strong musical feeling. But I know me and I only start to really grasp musicals on the second or third listen so by now I'm really enjoying it, though I still have a few lingering issues (with the caveat that it is not yet finished so maybe my feelings on it will change as more of the saga comes out), so here's a list of things that keep rolling in my mind.

The voice casting is suuuper solid, Athena and Polites especially stand out to me. Athena's singer really gives off the weight of presence and a voice that just instantly matches to the character, while Polites' singer just nails it with the positivity and the smile in his voice. Really enjoying both of their songs a lot by now. Odysseus sounds super good too. Honestly vocally the only real issue I have was the laugh Aeolus did...sounds a little too fake so it takes me out of the moment every time (the singing is gorgeous though, it's really just the laugh)

rn I'm kinda missing some ballads...I tend to be a ballad hater but I grew some appreciation for them in the last few years and without them it can feel a little overwhelming with all of it being plot imo. This might stand out to me more because they absolutely struck gold with "Just a Man" which is such a good emotional check-in with the character and culminates in a devastating moment.

I feel like it's a little bit of a missed opportunity to have most of the songs sound rather pop-y, I would have liked if perhaps Circe's entrance sounded more seductive (the layered backdrop just didn't super match, maybe that's just me) or if the Sea Saga sounded a little more sea-shanty-esque maybe? But I do recognize that the overall sound makes everything more cohesive, with the downside that on first listen the songs tended to blend together to me and no single melody really stuck in my mind. Also sorry but the rap part in Puppeteer was really unmotivated lmao, you don't have to be Hamilton.

So far I'm kinda missing the connective tissues and leitmotifs, I do pick up some small musical stuff the more I listen but they are really minimal or quick imo, it's missing something like the love song from Hadestown or in general repeated strong melodies idk idk.

I think my personal ranking of the Sagas is just the chronological order rn.

Overall, took me a few listens but I'm quite enjoying it now, I just think that overall it's just a little too pop for my taste (I love pop music mind you, I just also love strong melodies in my musicals)

Lavender as a child...smol

(Backstory infos under the cut)

Lavender was born the daughter of a victorian noble, Victor Clematis (belongs to idolkilling on twitter), who started his life as a poor and unattractive void of charisma. Sick of his life, he allowed himself to be tempted by dark magic, forming a contract with shady creatures, and came to wealth, beauty and charm - which he used instantly to live his dream life of power.

After a while, he met Lavender's future mother Elisa, who disapproved of his hedonistic lifestyle. He fell for her and so for her sake he promised to stop his ways. They married, they had a child, and life was good thanks to Victor's previously gained wealth and connections. However, Lavender ended up quite a sickly child who required a lot of care. Victor, who loved her dearly, did not take that well and the temptation to go back to his dark ways in an attempt to keep her safe and healthy got too strong. Yet upon finding out, Elisa took Lavender and left. They lived apart the following years. Lavender did not handle it well, since her bond to her father was strong, but Elisa told her that it was better this way.

Unfortunately, tragedy eventually struck and they both got sick, leaving Lavender's mother to pass away and Lavender herself at death's door. Upon hearing the news, Victor rushed to their aid, trying his best to save them, and used his dark magic to revive both - but it didn't go well. Elisa came back wrong, a monsterous shape, and Lavender was even more fragile than before, in a now-permanent state of half-dead and half-alive. Victor still attempted to keep their family together, his wife hidden and explaining every odd occurrence of his daughter's life away whenever she asked questions, and Lavender, who was still scarred from the separation of her parents, was all too happy to accept her mother's state (who still vaguely remembered her).

Yet after a particularly traumatic event for Lavender where her own other ended up attacking her, Victor decided that this plan wasn't working and he took it upon himself to raise Lavender by himself, altering her memory of past events.

After handling things this way for a while, Lavender's mental state grew very fragile, easily triggered to remember everything that happened and everything Victor did, which made her overwhelmed, hysterial and at risk of practically disintegrating and dying after all - so once again Victor had to accept his loss, realizing that his presence in itself was a gigantic trigger for Lavender, and sent her to live alone (under his ever watchful magical eye) in an attempt to have her lead a peaceful and happy life (though it's always only temporary. She inevitably glitches out after a while - given that her mind is fragile and, at this point, filled to the brim with real and fake memories - and needs to be taken in by him and maintained.)

She's currently living in a cycle of waking up in a place with a fresh memory of a life implanted in her (usually some variation on the same story, updated for time) and going on about her day that has been magically pre-set for her, until she inevitably glitches out and breaks, getting taken in by her father again, reset and relocated. She's not aware of this cycle and just thinks that she has hypothyroidism (explaining her exhaustion and several other health problems) and poliosis (half of her hair grew white since she's half-dead. She dyes the white part a lavender colour to match her name.)

She's trying to lead a normal life but since she happens to be a magnet for the weirdest people on earth she's struggling a lot.

Gotta say I love the new update so far!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! Actually making them might be rough and time-consuming but I'm having a lot of fun with showing that particular aspect of Pride and Conquest's relationship...Conquest doesn't have anything against Pride nor is she at all angry or incensed about the situation, she's just very conscious about the horsemen's role in the timeframe of the world. While she herself would not mind riding ahead of time, she's aware that everybody else would rather have them stick to schedule, so she will do just that and try to peacefully keep things on track if they threaten to stray away from it, which includes intimidating Pride as the most promising route to success.

And also fun showing their inherent power difference - Pride could fairly easily close the door against Justice and Humility, but Conquest used the tips of her fingers to open the door against her, and could find Lust when Pride had no clue where she went.

(not to mention that yay Lust! I really missed her myself!)
