Being late diagnosed doesn't always mean you are low support needs or can't be severely disabled. It just means you didn't get a word to describe your disability for a long time or were given a couple of wrong words first.

One of the few nice things autistic masking taught me is accents. I pick up EVREY accent I hear and I can replicate it so easily. Even languages. It's so easy for me to pronounce foreign languages correctly because if I listen to the language, I pick up how it's supposed to sound SO quickly.

"But you seemed fine." Yeah, that's because you didn't get to see the flare up afterwards.

Anti-ADHD-boredom Ideas list
Hello fellow ADHDers of Tumblr, let's make a list with some specific ideas for what to do when ADHD boredom hits. I'll start:
Rearrange furniture (a classic, I know, but it just always hits the right spot in my brain haha)
build funny mechanisms like using sticky command hooks and yarn and setting them up in a way so you can close your rooms door from bed (I'm sorry, this is not well explained, English is not my native language lol) It's your turn, repost this or comment and add your ideas : )

Sometimes I hate my ADHD for making many things so damn difficult for me. For making sitting down and studying so hard. For making thinking so chaotic. For making things so complicated. For making it so, so hard for me to stick to a routine. For making it so hard for me to act on my own plans and dreams. For making it hard for me to be consistent. Sometimes I hate my ADHD and that's ok.

The auDHD cycle of being to understimulated to study so you let yourself do what the ADHD part REALLY wants to do instead to get the brain working so you can study afterwards but when you're done with the project you're so overwhelmed that you again can't study.

Study hacks that actually work for me as an autistic ADHDer
(who massively struggled with anything school related for years)
Not getting too invested in series, movies, books, you name it If I like something, I REALLY like it. If I'm into something I'm REALLY into it. I try not to consume too much new media during exam periods/periods of intense studying so I don't fall down that spiral of distraction and binge watching. If you absolutely do need to watch something to relax or get your brain fueled, maybe try watching a few episodes of a series with no context (so start somewhere in the middle) or rewatch stuff you already know but haven't watched in a while.
The exact opposite of what I just wrote, but only do this outside of exam season/ very intense study periods!!! If you do get really into series/books/whatever kind of stories- use that. Pretend you are your favorite character (preferably a really studious or nerdy one), dress up in their style or something so you get really hyped about it and then sit down and study.
Try to find your way of doing it. Experiment with strategies and find out what makes it stick for your brain. You don't need to do flashcards if they don't work for you. Try mind maps, list, tables, writing quiz questions for yourself, explaining it to someone, listen to your textbooks, whatever. Be creative. But please, please note: If you invest more time into the method itself than in studying, it's not a good method. As always, feel free to share what works for you!!

hello fellow ADHDers of tumblr, how do you get "unstuck" when ADHD paralysis/executive functioning struggles hit during the day?

A while ago I saw a video about how autistic people apparently don't form habits. I don't know if it's true or not, but hear me out: Treating myself like a human who's never lived a single day on earth before and therefore doesn't know routines is one of the best things I ever did. I prop myself with sticky notes and reminders everywhere, I put up instructions for the simplest of tasks and it's amazing.

It's autism awareness/acceptance day/week/month, whatever you call it where you live. So here's 7 things I'd like to tell my younger self about autism/ my life as an autistic person:
not all autistic people are good at maths, keep researching autism, you're on the right track, even though you're shit at maths! : )
autism doesn't equal no or low empathy. many autistic people have loads of empathy. and also having no/low empathy is ok, too! it shouldn't be demonized.
what you have right now is not friendship. you don't know friendship yet. but you will find your people soon, keep on! you belong somewhere.
your struggles are real, even if no-one, including yourself, really understands it yet.
you are worthy of support. there's nothing wrong with asking for help.
your life might not go the way you always imagined it to. but it won't be less, it will just be different.
disability is not a dirty word. sit through the discomfort in the beginning, you are allowed to use the word and it's ok to say!

Not so nice things about brain fog:
people feeling hurt or like you don't listen to them when you just struggle to remember
being laughed at for not being able to get your words out
being laughed at for spelling mistakes and struggling with basic maths
everything feeling kind of far away and hazy because you literally feel like you're looking through fog
simple tasks taking up sooo much energy because it's so, so difficult to focus
