There are only two reactions to Tony Award nominations and I’ll die on that hill. I find it funny that in the htdio fan group chat I’m normally the loud and angry person but I’m incredibly chill when it comes to the Tony’s. Meanwhile my normally calm friends fall into the “WHY DIDN’T XYZ SHOW GET NOMINATED, ABC SHOULDN’T HAVE GOTTEN NOMINATED!!!” type.

I actually used to be really opinionated on the Tony’s back in 2018-2019ish but now I’m just happy to celebrate theatre and see the performances. Of course I wish my favorite show this season- How To Dance In Ohio- got nominated, along with shows that opened and closed earlier this season, but everyone who did get nominated doesn’t deserve to be shat upon.

Very proud of everyone, cast, crew, and creatives, who put on excellent shows this season! And may the best show win!

I love talking with people about just how fucking hard it is to draw human faces. This was totally not brought about by trying to draw someone in my animation sketchbook and failing miserably but now I have to commit to the fucking bit and might as well just start digging my own grave.

Possible fanfiction prompt:

A reboot of Gilligan's Island, but the seven castaways are the Spectrum Club 7 from How to Dance in Ohio.

Gilligan = Tommy (friendly, means well, tries hard, but kind of chaotic and likely to ruin things, usually seen in red)

Skipper = Drew (charismatic, good leader, but knows how to delegate when necessary, usually seen in blue, also I just like the idea of him clonking Tommy on the head a lot)

Professor = Marideth (more intellectual than emotional, has a vast knowledge of facts about pretty much everything, most likely to figure out how to do anything...except fix the boat)

Thurston Howell III = Remy (highly influential and well-connected, could be morally corrupt but chooses not to be, the most likely to pack an absurd amount of "necessary" possessions to keep with them on a three-hour tour)

Eunice Howell = Mel (stronger than they seem, wiser than you expect, protective maternal energy, also I just like the idea of Mel and Remy being married because probably what happened is Remy got rich and famous from influencer income and married Mel so that they could afford to leave Paws & Claws and have a better life with adequate healthcare and that's the wholesome queer aro/ace love story we deserve)

Ginger Grant = Jessica (is a star, knows she's a star, knows that you know she's a star, acts accordingly)

Mary Ann = Caroline (sweet, wholesome, has a toxic ex, bffs with Jessica, and people totally like her better than Jessica, but don't tell Jessica)

I’m trying to find good pun names for the SC7 in what I’m calling my How To Shift In Ohio AU. So far I’ve got Wereideth, Wereoline, Drewoof, Remoon, and that’s it. I don’t have anything else.

In support of the Autistic Theatremakers Alliance and out of my own autism, I have bid in that funky auction where you could zoom with one of the cast members of HTDIO. I’m preparing jokes for if I win because I want to be funny and I feel intensely awkward paying money for someone to have a conversation with me if they’re not gaining something from it. My comedy seems to hit well with an autistic audience.

But not gonna lie, the main thing I’m here for is to see cats. I know a couple of y’all have cats and I wanna see them.

Working on making communication cards. I’m very talkative and pretty good at advocating for myself, but I wonder if I would feel less overwhelmed if I tried using communicating cards.

Of course I’m going to have the standard “yes,” “no,” “please give me space,” etc… but I’m also going to have things like a “FUCK YOU” card, a “can I talk about my special interests?” card, and a “SHUT UP” card because I swear like a sailor irl and I WILL infodump about werewolves or late 2010’s-early 2020’s musicals or cat genetics. (Hmu if you wanna learn about werewolves or musicals or cat genetics)

I’m making my own because I want werewolf themed communication cards.

The irony of my official How To Dance In Ohio shirt having a texture that gives me sensory overload is not lost on me. I put it on for the first time today and my brain instinctively went “oh no. Oh no bad texture don’t like this” and I had to actively fight my nervous system to wear it for an hour. I am spoiled by only having clothes that I like the texture of currently that I forgot what clothes-related sensory overload felt like.

The best way I can describe this piece is a self portrait sketch. I don’t like drawing my face, but I wanted to keep parts of myself that are on my actual face in this drawing. Noise cancelling headphones have made my life a lot better in a lot of ways (I can now go to my Drawing 2 class without wanting to curl up in a ball and hide because of the noise!) But unfortunately for everyone involved, ableism is still a thing.

My English professor thought I was “distracted” and watching videos meanwhile the guy next to me was OPENLY CROCHETING A JACKET. I confronted the prof after class just to 100% make sure she knew my headphones were an accommodation… she knew, she just chose to make fun of them regardless. She also had us read a poem where the R-slur was used repeatedly and portrayed disabled adults as inherently clueless.

Most dogs love me. I love most dogs. I’m a cat person but I carry a bag of dog treats with me most times and I stop to pet any dog that will let me. My friends sometimes joke that I can’t ignore a dog ever and that’s generally true. I’ll say hi to any dog as long as I’m following my rules:

1- must not be an on-duty service dog

2- must not require me to go too far out of my way to pet

3- owner must give me permission

Today I met a brittany named Ruby, whose owners were a very nice elderly couple who seemed quite happy that I knew what a brittany was. Ruby was the sweetest little baby and her owners took some pictures of us together on my phone.

Going on walks and meeting people’s dogs has been one of the biggest things that have helped improve my social skills and fear of talking to strangers. I always have something to talk about, and I’m probably not going to see the person ever again, so it’s perfect practice. I also get to unmask because most dog owners are very excited to talk to other people who are also very excited about dogs.
