"I'm a little offended." he laces his fingers with yours, dragging your hands under his hoodie placing it directly above his heart, his free hand pulling you close till your faces were close. placing soft kisses on your lips, trailing up to your nose before ending with a kiss on your forehead. he lingers, before pulling away, pressing your foreheads together, "i love you so much, you're so beautiful, so smart, so precious." you're the one pulling away now, shyly returning to your earlier position. a satisfied hum leaving you.

본능으로만 움직이는 동물에게 사랑은 없고 생식을 위한 교미만이 있다. 오직 사람만이 사랑을 하고, 사랑을 위해 온갖 불편과 장애를 기꺼이 감수한다. 그런 맥락에서 “사랑이란 불편한 삶의 가장 세련된 형태다.”(프레디리크 시프테, 《우리는 매일 슬픔 한 조각을 삼킨다》) 사랑은 두 존재의 열림 속에서만 가능하다. 두 입술이 만나 입을 맞출 때, 입술은 열린다. 이때 열림은 존재 교환의 가능성을 향한 열림이다. “열림은 교환을 허용하고, 움직임을 보장하며, 소유나 소비의 포화를 막”는데, 이것은 “재현될 수 없고, 객체로 만들어질 수도 없으며, 어떤 위치 또는 존재로 재생산될 수도 없는 상태”, 즉 망각 안에 머무른다.(뤼스 이리가라이, 《근원적 열정》) 교환의 가능성은 반쯤 열린 두 입술에서 시작한다. 입술은 귀, 질, 항문과 더불어 닫힌 피부 존재에게는 드문 열린 곳이다. 열린 데는 대개 성감대가 집중적으로 발달한 곳이다. 이곳이 사랑의 입구들이기 때문이다. 사랑은 이 입구로 들어와 존재 안쪽까지 파고 들어간다. 반면 애무의 손길 아래서 입구가 없는 몸은 다시 태어나고, 부분이 뭉개진 전체로서 몸의 포옹은 개별화된 몸의 경계를 확정 짓는 데 기여한다.
