Miya was almost never late to anything, and this was beginning to feel like a horrible set up. Despite Mose never being on time, I thought he’d be here by now.

When your social battery is almost completely drained, the last thing you're gonna want to do is socialize with people you don’t know, so you mosey on over to the farthest corner from every one else. At least, that’s what I tried to do, but Miya waved me over to the small café table she and Mose were sharing.

“Suzanna! Over here!”

“Ah- Miya!”

“We thought you weren’t gonna show!”

“So did I! You guys turned into chameleons.”

“Guess who’s performing tonight?” Mose smirked, his brown curls hanging down over his eyes.

“Who?”

“GOOD EVENING FELLOW MUSIC LOVERS!” Joe enthusiastically yet unenthusiastically throws up his hands, looking observantly around the crowd. “How’re we doin’ tonight folks?”

The many small clusters of people were full of quiet and loud side conversations now, maybe they had to discuss how they were feeling?

“Mose… Mose!”

“Ssh!”

“We’ve got some great musicians and artists comin’ up here for you guys tonight, so feel free to sing and dance and jive.”

Jive?

“Now, sit back relax, and enjoy the music everyone! Have a wonderful evening.”

“You’re gonna love this,” Mose murmured to himself, shaking his head.

“First up,” a tall, fair-skinned woman tapped the mic, easing the crowd with a warm smile. “We have an eighteen year-old aspiring star-”

My brain went numb. There’s no way. I mean, he said he played at gigs sometimes but here? Of all places?

“Tonight I’ll be playing an original of mine, Cold Summers.”

Miya shot me a glance, then looked to Mose, slinking back in her chair.

The quiet strum of his guitar was enough to put me to sleep, but the richness of his voice was quite alarming. There was a slight rasp, a huskiness, yet a warmth to how he sang, annunciating each word crystal clear.

“And whenever I think of you-.” I hadn’t looked up yet, hoping that it would be the one thing keeping us from making any accidental eye contact.

“There’s nothin’ that I can do-"

But my eyes met his anyway. There was nothing I could say at this point. There was nothing I could say. He kept singing, and kept staring me down.

“So don’t tell me you don’t wanna stay-”

I couldn’t if I tried. I couldn’t resist. I couldn’t unlock myself from his gaze. How was I supposed to? I’d stay here forever if I could.

Doing match ups for people you know will always be the most difficult thing. I was overthinking this for nearly a day but it all finally boiled down to one person.

The cooking thing is obvious. You two bond over that immediately. The arts and crafts, however, come a bit later. He hesitates to dabble in painting and crafting at first because he doesn't want to be bad at it, but once you convince him to try it he takes to it like a fish to water.

He loves listening to you play the guitar. When he's feeling particularly romantic, he'll take you on a picnic so you two can sit and play duets together. He can't play guitar well, but he can strum a few chords.
