Someone on here a while ago asked me if I could elaborate on a post I wrote about (anime) Fugo's Stand being a metaphor for some effects of trauma.
(I just now wrote a whole-ass thing in Evernote about this, and then Evernote damn ate the whole thing lol - I'll try to write a smaller thing then)
(Content warning: mention of p3dophilia / CSA in a fictional story)
Fugo desperately begged his teacher (who had already done something to him in the past) to leave him alone. His teacher didn't. That's when Fugo beat him with the book. Only to be ostracized for it, accused of "seducing" his teacher for better grades (when he was a child??), and exiled from his own family.
With Purple Haze, an embodiment of his rage, no one can come near him ever again.
Trauma can be infectious like a virus when we let it guide our rage to harm others -- rage makes the body strong, but the mind weak. Trauma can make us lash out to protect ourselves in ways that we may deeply regret later. Especially unresolved trauma; unacknowledged trauma.
Purple Haze is uncontrolled rage. Because Fugo can harm people with it, without the intention of doing so.
"If you don't heal what hurt you, you'll bleed on those who didn't cut you."
And unlike his teammates, he can't even safely throw a punch with his Stand. There is no way for him to use it without the possibility of harming people he's trying to protect.
The abuse of Fugo was never brought to justice. There were never repercussions. Things went in the polar opposite direction. So his pain stayed inward. And just as a balloon will burst if you keep adding air to it with no release, so will a person full of suffering that has been willfully ignored by everyone.
Furthermore... Fugo rarely uses his Stand. As if he's afraid of it.
He's ashamed of the unhealed parts of him that can make him dangerous even to his own friends.
Everyone on Bruno's team has a history of incomprehensible trauma. But it's clear to me from Fugo's Stand -- and from his refusal to follow his friends rather than a violent, tyrannical boss who tried to kill his own daughter -- that he doesn't know where to begin with his heartbreak.
Maybe he has never talked about it -- about the devastating betrayal by his teacher, his school, the law, his parents. Maybe he's never fully realized that the outcome was beyond unfair and that he didn't deserve any of that. Maybe he doesn't yet understand that there is life outside of trauma, or he has never had the chance to realize that.
I see him as someone who still thinks it's his fault (whether that's in his soul and not so much a conscious thing, or he believes it so much that he would tell someone else that he deserved his trauma).
Everyone was against him after he attacked his teacher. There was no one to confirm to him that his teacher was a monster and that he had been completely abandoned. It would've been easy for him to believe what the masses were saying about him, as he had no support system whatsoever.
There was no one to protect him. There was no one on his side.
It's possible that, because of this, Purple Haze is the way it is because Fugo never learned to control it.
Stands are representation of the user's soul. And Fugo's soul was lost, heartbroken, scared, and enraged.

Disclaimer: Some of these apps have the option to pay for them, but I use the free version of most of these apps. Whether or not you wish to pay for them is up to you. I will mark with an astrick and clarify at the bottom of the page for what version I use and what features come with it.
IBIS PAINT X - I use this app to create overlays, do minor editing to backgrounds, and create sneak peeks and more story marketing! I used to use this app to make Episode covers, but thankfully I have enough money in my life to commission someone. In my opinion, commissions look 10x better than my artistic skill. But, if you can draw (unlike me), IBIS could help you, since it's primarily a drawing app.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes! I had to block out some things so you wouldn't get any sneak peeks. Since I'm kind, I figured I'd show you what The Other Half of Me looks like. You can't blame me for spoilers since I already wrote it, and it's been complete for some time now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, no one needs to put this much effort into aesthetics, but it helps me write and direct later on. Also, it makes me excited about planning. That being said, if you want something plainer, Evernote will get the job done!
Instagram - I use this app to help promote my stories. I'd say this is pretty self-explanatory because loads of people do this as well, but it's also a great place to network.
Episode Forums - I don't use the forums as much anymore for selfish reasons. I typically step in once a week to see how everyone's doing and check for new contests. That being said, once you publish a new story it's always a great idea to share it there with those who are not on Instagram. Who knows, maybe you'll find a read for read or gem for gem opportunity. People may read it and give their opinion, too!
Google Tasks/Taskboard - I use google tasks to keep on top of deadlines I set for myself. Of course, you shouldn't rush the writing process, but I will spend way too long on every step if I don't set small deadlines for myself. It also reminds me of what I should be doing, instead of working on something completely different. These are great for read for read deadlines (I always set them for a week later), chapters I'll be publishing, posts on Instagram, and more. You can use the app Taskboard for desktop, Tasks the mobile app, or find the pullout if you go to Gmail.
Google Keep - I this for short memorandum-like notes for story ideas. I also try to keep my dreams in this before I transfer them over to my dream journal. What if my dream is so exciting, that I turn it into a story? You never know.

What websites do you use for fanfic research? I usually use Google but heard that people on the writing Tumblr side used JSTOR which blew my mind! I didn't know this!!! I read that you planned up to a year for your fanfic and thought, "Pls share your resources". Many thanks!
Hey, thanks for sending an ask! 🌈
So in regards to "fanfic research", do you mean researching the source material or researching writing techniques?
For the former, aside from just revisiting (or replaying) the source material, I mostly read wikis and watch theory videos on YouTube. Video essays too! Those can be rife with inspiration. Then there's the odd meta analysis here and there on Tumblr. (I also have never heard of JSTOR btw 😅)
In regards to craft, I do watch a lot of writing advice on YouTube and read articles (Mythcreants.com is my fave resource for flexible-yet-actionable advice), but I also happen to have graduated uni with a major in creative and professional writing.
The problem with most writing advice though (and a university degree lol) is that it assumes that you're trying to monetise your creative writing, and it's for the "original" novel medium which, as Sarah Z points out in one of her videos, is a completely different medium from fanfiction. That's actually why I make the content I do: to give writing advice that is specific to the medium and cultural conditions of fanfiction.
If you're looking for further resources specific to fanfiction though:
Springhole.net has some articles.
I also recommend @ao3commentofthedayntoftheday. They don't always have their inbox open, and they take a while to answer, but when they do, their answers are kind and insightful and then they invite others to share their thoughts, meaning you can get advice from a whole community.
For something more immediate, however, check out the r/Fanfiction and r/AO3 subreddits.
As for my 12-month planning process, it's more the fact that I just have a very detailed way of doing things. Usually the first 9 months of that process involves dumping a bunch of ideas in Evernote, and then the final 3 months is when I'll actually hone in on the plot, characters, and worldbuilding. I used to do that in MS Word, but now I prefer to use Milanote since it allows me to be way more visual and it's easier to navigate my extensive outlines. I can't go too in-depth on my process since otherwise we'll probably be here a while, but hey, maybe I can make it into a future video?
Once again, Nonny, thank-you for reaching out~! 🙏💖

Notion vs Evernote? :)
I don't really use either regularly, I think both are good but I don't recommend trying to pay for either one unless you know you'll use the features? notion might take a bit to get set up and understand, thats why I haven't used it as much. but compared to evernote, it is getting constantly updated which evernote has slowed down on.
personally I get distracted by aesthetics and it becomes counterproductive 😅 I tend to use sticky notes, google calendar, and keep (notes), maybe one day I'll move to notion

I might have finished my TBR list together with the "to complete" and "dropped" lists.
But-… I don't think that a simple list with control boxes on Evernote is enough to keep track of everything… and also it's not even organized by title or genre (or both) so idk if I'll ever find stuff on the list. Not sure how to improve it, to be honest.
I need to find a way to keep myself "motivated" to try getting back into reading (if I can't get back to writing… but I'm sure that as soon as I flee my mother's place back to my father's I won't be bothered by a person talking nonstop because she finds it weird not talking if she's in the same room/house with someone else, and getting upset if she gets told to not disturb if I'm reading unless it's important).
Maybe I could upcycle an old ring binder and make a page per book in the list and make sections and the like… Dunno.

Buonasera (b)ella 👋
It’s me, your favourite anon! 😎 Who’s currently sick in bed and thus not having much of an evening. 😿 I think I’ll make something for dinner and then try out Stranger Things later this evening. 😉 What are you up to on this *quickly looks up weather in Northern Italy* slightly cloudy evening?
Lots of hugs
~ swanon 🦢
P.S. What did a little birdie tell me? Are you having secret admirers these days? 🤭
Buonasera a te, anon 💛
Oh, I'm sorry you're sick 😔 but that sounds like a good plan! As for me, I'm gonna clean my room and then have dinner lol maybe write a little if Evernote stops being a bitch and deleting my stuff. Or I'll just use a different app 😤

I'm curious about ghost garrus beg and v post rocket!
v post rocket
This is basically me trying to parse out what happened in the missing scenes at the end of the first Venom movie, basically right from Eddie landing in the water. Aka: excessive analysis on tiny details in a way that I learned in the Hobbit fandom when trying to predict scenes we'd get in the BotFA EE, lmao.
Just about every fic about that timeframe goes on about them being separated and Eddie being depressed about it, or if they do keep them together it's just Venom being completely silent while Eddie's appetite goes haywire. I leave them connected, and Venom has some mass and control - he's able to get Eddie to the surface (I suspect Eddie would have experienced cold water shock and may have drowned otherwise) before relinquishing control (with some but limited talking afterwards as he recovers). Then into dealing with emergency vehicles on shore, Anne, getting the show offer he mentions to Anne at the end of the movie, the Cleteus offer, the start of the cop suspicions/FBI investigation mentioned in 2, and most importantly (and probably what spurred the idea in the first place), the contrast between what we got in the movie:
Eddie: Wanna talk about that kiss? Anne: That? That- that was- your buddy's idea. Eddie: Okay well that is good to know.
And what we saw in a behind the scenes clip of a deleted scene/take:
Eddie: Who- who was I kissing just then? Anne: Mostly me. Venom, internally: Well actually it was mostly me! Eddie: Oh god.
At present the file is just 10 actual lines of 'fic' and about 30 bullet points of notes, lmao. Don't know if I'll actually write it out properly.
ghost garrus beg
'beg' stands for 'beginning' lol. My tablet died and I'm not signed into Google on the shitty phone I'm using now as a ~replacement so I've been using Evernote more than Google Docs, but the scrolling when editing and stuff sucks so I've put the beginning and end of the first part of ghost!garrus (both of which I'm happy with and not fiddling with overmuch) separate from what I AM fiddling with to reduce scrolling.
Below the cut as a teaser :3
.
Turians were the only ones who didn't believe an individual stayed an individual after death. All the other species had some idea of the afterlife, rebirth, ancestors watching over the living, ghosts...Turians tried using those other ideas in media sometimes, but it was always seen as a grab for foreign audiences and said media rarely did well with turians-
Anyway, point was, Garrus was at least aware of what ghosts were.
Which was good, since he appeared to be one.
-x-
Nobody could see him, and nobody could hear him - both of which would have been a dream come true before, but he didn't appear to have a gun, so he didn't see what the point was.
Nobody could feel him, either - he could put his whole weight against someone, and when they moved they'd displace him like he wasn't even there.
And he wasn't, and yet he was.
-x-
He couldn't go through walls, or doors, or crates, or anything solid. Air, while technically a substance, didn't give him an issue. He thought about whether the vaccuum of space would be different again[trying to get out an airlock, see what the vaccuum did], but he had safe houses to finish checking first.
Ghosts could see other ghosts, right?
-x-
Or not, Garrus thought, until he saw her.
Her, and two others that were able to perceive her.
-x-
But no, everyone could see them, and they couldn't see him.
So what the hell was going on?
He followed. Not like he had anything better to do, with everyone-
-x-
They went into the ward under quarantine. He barely fit into the elevator with them - he wondered what would happen if one leaned against him, squishing him against the elevator wall; but it didn't happen, and then he was watching them fight, unable to do anything besides run alongside.
And watch. And listen.
-x-
She was dead. Was he watching a clone?
Maybe she had a ghost back on the Normandy.
-x-
She did not have a ghost back on the Normandy.
She did, however, have Joker, and Chakwas, and a full crew. Of Cerberus.
What the hell was going on?
-x-
He couldn't have left the ship anyway after following her onto it, but when they left Omega he couldn't help but worry that maybe he was leaving the ghosts of his squad behind, maybe they just hadn't yet made it to any of the safe houses when he'd checked them-
But there was something going on with Shepard. And even if he couldn't do anything about it, he was going to get to the bottom of it.
