So, a super long time ago (like, maybe a few years ago) I began making a cover of Sincerely, Me from Dear Evan Hansen (one of my favorite musicals, which I was somehow lucky enough to see on Broadway in March of 2022!) with the same friend I made the Bikini Bottom Day cover with, who ended up voicing Connor (he has an awesome voice, by the way), and I sang Evan's part. I tried getting one of my other friends to voice Jared, but plans fell through with that, so I ended up recording myself as Jared as a placeholder.

I wasn't satisfied with how it ended up sounding as Jared, though (man, his notes are high!) and I never ended up sharing it anywhere. It just kind of sat in my downloads, gathering dust, never being able to see the light of day... (There was even a point where I re-recorded some of my vocals for Evan to sound nicer, but I lost all of that progress because my old account associated with the program my friend and I used to record this got shut down).

I did still have an older version saved in my downloads, and after such a long time, I wanted to revive this cover! I ended up using this lovely person's voice to be Jared, which was honestly a godsend. I don't know why I didn't think of doing this earlier:

got some tags that got me thinking. is Evan a asshole on purpose? is Jared? The answer is No (imo) for both of them.

they're both assholes yes but neither one is out to hurt people. they're not *trying* to be an asshole. my post was more abt pointing out that evan is a very selfish often cruel character whose anxiety gets used by the audience as a shield against the horrible things he does while everyone acts like jared is trying to get evan to bomb the Pentagon. most of the show Evan uses the excuse of "helping the Murphys" to justify what he's doing. but he's not helping them, he's actively hurting them and dragging out their grieving process! it is a horrific thing he does! this is something the show criticizes through jared bc is evan reaaaaally just trying to help a grieving family or does he like the attention.

even the "no one deserves to be forgotten" motif is a farce because they are remembering connor in name only. connor is forgotten because of evan and in his place is a false fake version of connor that Evan invented. evan uses connors death to prop himself up and make himself look better. but did he do this on purpose? no. but it felt good, so he kept doing it.

again! a really really big part of the show is evan does a lot of mean shitty things but can't admit, even to himself, that he's doing mean things. "I don't even think mean things!" It's not really until "good for you" and "words fail" that he realizes why he was really doing all of this. that he can't keep lying to everyone AND himself. lying to yourself is a huge theme of the show, see "Did you fall or did you let go?"

and wow this got way longer than i intended but imo basically evan isn't trying to be an asshole but it also can't accurately be described as accidental. he's doing these asshole things on purpose but not to be an asshole, if that makes sense?

and to briefly touch on my "Jared isn't an asshole on purpose either" statement: Jared does the shit not to hurt people but to try and make them laugh or to get himself attention. he's making shitty mean spirited jokes to cover up his own insecurity but he's not trying to hurt people. when he's trying to hurt someone he's gets real passive aggressive but I'm not explaining this part super well because I already wrote an Evan manifesto but whatever. autism explosion beam

#also I'm worried this reads like a vague post #but the person left it in the tags so I think it would be so mean to be like #@ HEY YOU RANDOM STRANGER .. I SEE WE HAVE DIFFERENT MEDIA INTERPRETATIONS. FUCK YOU #I am not trying to say fuck you 😭😭 to that person either #Just it really got me thinking!! ok no bc I’m so glad we’re on the same page about Ari and the wicked movie…the cheating scandal is bad obviously but … why couldn’t they cast someone who will match Cynthia vocally? Or idk…make it one movie instead of two?

literally everything abt it boggles the mind. i love cynthia erivo dearly but shes also 36 and theyre basically supposed to be college freshmen like…… sorry she looks her age!! like she looks like a 36 year old and ari somehow looks 15 and 50 at the same time bc whatever they did to her in makeup combined with her being soooo so skinny rn makes her look horrible. like just that on its own makes them not believable as the characters or as roommates. THEN is the fact that while cynthia could do a good elphaba in a regular stage setting you CANNOT tell me ariana would do glinda well. like when did we all convince ourselves her stint on nickelodeon was enough to put her in the film for one of the biggest musicals of all time. AND THE HAIR. IS NOT EVEN FUCKING BLONDE OR CURLY. LIKE LITERALLY THE SIMPLEST THING FOR GLINDA IS GET A FUCKING WIG AND THEY JUST HAVE SOME GRAY ASHY LIFELESS WIG ON HER. WHAT THE FUCKKKK

and two movies….. saying they cant possibly have anything after defying gravity bc its weird…. WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!! every single film musical up to now has in fact included everything after their act i break! bc its a fucking movie musical not the lord of the rings! like im not kidding when i say every single fucking thing about this movie was pissing me off other than ethan slater as boq and then he went and ruined that too

2 weeks ago Andrew Barth Feldman said on Alex Boniello’s twitch that he heard there was a “funny choreography change” in sincerely me that Gaten came up with, and after watching that one recording I am going to assume it’s when Jared puts his hand on Evan’s cheek. Which I agree is very funny.

[ ❤️ || Sweet -> Revtrosity - you already knew how it sounded if you ever watched this video on youtube and heard his voice acting of sweet cap'n cakes. i tried to find any specific artists with song associations that fits their tone but so far i didn't got it right so i think from revtrosity seemed sm better and fitting bcuz he voice acted them really good imo. With Sweet sounding deep and their voice being raspy (and also quite robotic buzz sound with all the editing) was the perfect voice for them (he's the best ut/dr voice actor with hilarious humors screaming over his mic he was once my fav) ]

[ 💙 || Cap'n -> Lin-Manuel Miranda - oh boi let me tell you about this one..i LOVE associating Cap'n with lin-manuel ESPECIALLY from the netflix animated movie Vivo because those two characters reminded me alot of each other and because this talented kinkajou, Vivo was...a coward. but also passionate and funny (a bit more..exaggerated). Also did his very best to do the right thing for his friend because its the last thing he could do for him. really reminded me alot of cap'n with his bandmates so I BEG of you to try listening to some lin-Manuel songs especially the Hamilton. and imagine it'scap'en I luv it sm or else I'd drag your noodle legs into my hole-- /j/j]

[ 💚 || Cakes (k_k) -> Revtrosity- his voice acting of k_k did fit really well too so I'd choosed this one bcuz I dont know where to actually find the best voice tone for k_k (I also almost associated Cakes with Tanjiro Kamado for many reasons) also I do have an alternative voice hc from the song Role-playing Game by SoraMafuUraSaka with the member named MafuMafu almost sounded like k_k to me if you listen to their song parts. ]

the way they kept the fucking baseball glove song but removed going viral 🤨🤨 (I genuinely think going viral works against Jared's characterization and functions as a detriment and also was clearly made for a different style of musical but. fuck the baseball glove song the whole scene drags the second act to a crawl just give Jared or alana a song in act 2 they are functionally more important characters within the narrative and and-) 🤨🤨🤨🤨
