You Rebuilt My Car

A double-drabble for fest.

“You rebuilt my car,” said Bond, stunned.

“Yes,” said Q. “An interesting technical…”

“I could kiss you,” Bond teased.

“Please don’t,” said Q after a nearly imperceptible pause.

His tone was dry and bored. He’d rolled his eyes and was almost the picture of the disinterested quartermaster—who dealt with multiple deadly, flirtatious agents on a regular basis—almost.

Bond’s life, too often, depended on him noticing the things others didn’t want him to see. And right now, there was something that Q didn’t want him to see.

So, he looked.

“You didn’t rebuild the car I dunked in the Tiber,” said Bond.

“Please,” said Q. “It’s still drying out.”

“Nor the Jag 004 crashed in Monaco.”

“Unsalvageable,” said Q. “Not worth the effort.”

“I’d assumed this was too,” said Bond.

“Recreating the original modifications was an interesting technical challenge,” Q repeated.

“I’m sure.” Bond took a step closer. Q held his ground though there was a flicker of concern in his eyes.

“You rebuilt my car,” said Bond, more gently than the first time. “I could kiss you.”

Not a statement.

An offer.

“Don’t,” said Q, eyes moving restlessly, looking everywhere but at Bond. “Not unless you mean it.”

Did you think you were spared?

This year, we are robbed of team days, a shame because we had so much fun watching you frantically trying to solve our codes.

But you know what.

We are villains. We do what we want.

We have kidnapped one member of each team. And to get them back, each team would have to complete a task to retrieve their valued member.

@teamdoubleoh: We have kidnapped @prismatic-bell. And the task is to write a fic about how one of the members of Mi6 is actually a mole. Fic must be 500-700 words.

@teamqbranch: We have kidnapped @kitten-kin . And the task is to make a photo-manip or art of how one of Q-branch's inventions will end the world.

@teamcivilian: We have kidnapped @00qsillyfanturtle. And your task is to create a list of food and drinks for an "end of the world" party. Minimum, 5 food/drinks; recipe is not required but preferred.

The above tasks must be completed before EST 00:00, 21st July, or, well, who knows what will happen to your dear members. Tag us when you post it, or else we will pretend that we didn’t see it and never let your precious members go.

We wish you good luck with your tasks. You wouldn’t want your dearest team members/captain to meet their demise, would you?
