The third installment of my Daniel Ricciardo drabble/one-shot series. Also thank you so much for so many likes and reblogs on the other, too. I finally found a fandom again that I enjoy writing for, thank you guys.

I kept the reader as vague as possible. While writing I imagined a plus size! female! reader but you can think up whatever you want.

You had a shitty day at work, so Daniel invites you to stay with him in Monaco. In the end something might change for you both.

Come to Monaco, take some time off. We’ll go hiking and swimming, you’ll love it.

You read and re-read his message. Daniel had sent you the plane tickets after yet another lengthy call about your crazy boss who was complaining all the time. Covid had hit every business, but just like everyone else you weren’t able to change it and you couldn’t get people inside the shop to buy enough cars to keep your boss afloat.

Each and every day, no matter how hard you worked he wasn’t happy with your performance, even though all he did was sit inside his office and drink the expensive whiskey a friend gave him.

You had joked about looking for a millionaire boyfriend and stop working if you found yourself with such a boss each time you changed workplaces. The Aussie had laughed at that, telling you he’d be there, providing for everything. “Don’t do that, I’d be stamped as a gold digger.”

“Fuck ‘em, I’d still do it.” His voice was hard but still making you laugh. “Besides, you’d be a great WAG.”

Smiling at his omission, you thanked him but couldn’t help picturing what life would be like if you did end up with the F1 driver. The glitz and glamor wasn't something you needed, but joining him on one of his trips or at races definitely had its perks. After that you had talked about his upcoming race in Spain and the one back in Silverstone where he ended up on P14, not something he wanted. Not for the team and especially for himself.

“You’ll get on the podium again, Danny, it will come. Stay positive.” You tried to encourage but heard the doubt in his voice.

“I know, it’s just, I don't have a good feeling with the car. It’s working great one day and the next something is wrong. I don’t know.”

A few hours later you found his message and the link to the tickets on your phone and you knew saying No was not an option. You answered him with a grinning emoji, knowing the Renault driver was already awake and waiting for your reply.

Get ready to dine and wine me, loverboy.

The next day at work you put in your vacation time and left your boss’ office before he could comment on it. You knew he wasn’t happy with you being gone for two weeks, but since you had started working for him you had about two days off from work in the last year.

“You dare leave with such short notice when it’s the busiest time of the year? I need you here, Y/N!” he called, standing at his desk and gripping your letter before you could close the door.

"I dare to. Work is slow anyway, with the pandemic people don't want to buy cars right now."

Grumbling, he sat back down. "Just make sure you'll do a better job than before so people actually come back. With your mood swings I'd not buy a car from you, too."

Swallowing the cuss, you gave him a tight nod before leaving the office. If you didn't need that job you'd probably have given that idiot a piece of your mind but at the moment he was still paying you more than your last workplace.

Back at your own desk you shot a quick text to Daniel, wishing him luck for the race in Spain and that you couldn't wait for the weekend to be over very quickly.

Three more days, babes, and you'll enjoy the Côte d'Azur. We'll meet in Nice at the airport, I'll be waiting at your gate.

True to his words the weekend was over faster than you thought and Daniel had sent you a voice message in the morning reminding you to have all your essentials, travel documents and to bring the happiest mood now that you would spend two weeks with the Honey Badger himself. You didn't know how he always did it, he was such a happy-go-lucky guy, although sometimes having a bad day, but just picturing his smile while he sent that voice made your day brighter.

The plane ride was uneventful, even with the pandemic. All you had to do was keep your mask on and everyone was happy. Music was something you probably shared with Danny, you needed it when you were traveling, driving, cooking or just reading a book sometimes. Music made everything better and lifted the mood a bit, so thanks to some of the songs the Aussie had recommended, the journey to Nice, France had been faster than you thought.

You felt giddy, knowing he would be waiting for you at the arrival gate, hopefully in the same mood as he had that morning, knowing the weekend hadn't gone as planned for him as he wanted to. The plane finally touched down, passengers clapping and whooping loudly before you heard the snaps and clicks of the belts being loosened. Sometimes you wondered why people couldn't wait until you reached the parking spot. The doors wouldn't be opened before then, so why bother being the first to grab your shit when you'd still have to wait patiently. Shaking your head, you turned your phone back on.

You sent a quick message to your friend and family, letting them know you got there okay and one to Danny, so he knew you were about to meet him. With him being a famous driver you didn't know how many people might recognize him, if some at all with having to wear the masks and didn't want him to be in the middle of all of that. Although he once told you he didn't mind at all, but with it being this early he was confident it was smooth riding from there on.

Can't wait to see you, babes.

You chuckled at the nickname he gave you. He started a few weeks ago and when you asked him about it, the Aussie explained that it was the nickname for baby or mini potatoes.

"So, I'm a potato now?"

“No, you’re my baby potato.” His laugh had echoed through the speaker and you couldn’t help the grin that stole itself onto your lips as you thought back to it.

Grabbing your travel bag from the overhead compartment you stood and followed the passengers out of the plane. You couldn’t wait to get out of that crowd and see Danny again. It had been too long since you had time off and spending your free time with him was such a privilege. He was literally the sun, even when he had a bad day, he wanted to make his friends and loved ones smile no matter what.

Walking out of the gate, you finally were able to lose the throng of people that had traveled with you. That’s when you found him standing there in his merch hoodie, sunglasses and a mask.

“Babes, fuck I missed that smile.” He pulled you closer, his arms circling around your shoulders. Michael was sitting opposite the gate at a small cafe area, enjoying a light breakfast. "Did you have breakfast?"

You shook your head, food hadn’t been on your mind this early in the morning. Your flight had left at dawn and plane food was never something you enjoyed, so you nibbled on the cookies and granola bar you had bought before take off. “I hoped I could get something here, enjoy the ocean view and sun.”

The Aussie chuckled, nodding over at Michael who had finished his coffee and scrambled eggs. “We’ll get your luggage, take a car to Monaco and then enjoy an amazing breakfast with a view.”

The drive to Monaco and Daniel’s home there was about half an hour but the scenery that flew past was the most beautiful you had seen in a while. The waters were so blue and even the mountains on the other side looked beautiful. Before you knew it the car was in the garage of the apartment complex.

After a big brunch outside on the apartment balcony, enjoying the view down to the Port de Cap-d’Ali yacht club, the Aussie took you down to the beach.

“Did you ever make a decision you might in the end think was the wrong one?” He asked you, his hands shoved into the pockets of his hoodie.

You looked over at him, your hand instinctively moving to his elbow. “What’s going on, Daniel? I’ve never seen you so down before.”

Sighing, Daniel shook his head. “I, fuck, I’m not sure. With the DNF in Austria and the car's performance I asked for a seat at McLaren. I’m still finishing my contract but I don’t know if getting that ball rolling was right. I just want to race and get back on the podium.”

“Why didn't you tell me before, huh? We're friends. Are you really sure this is what you want? Changing teams, I mean. You know I’ll have your back, no matter what you do.” He put his arm around your shoulder, pulling you into his side. “What did your agent say to that? And Cyril?”

Daniel laid a kiss onto your temple. “He’s on board I think, it’s just so fucking annoying. I try to get it working, I have a few good positions and then it’s fucked up again. Most of all I miss my cheerleader at the track. And well, Cyril is…he's not happy but we're amicable and I try to get the points in, so at least it will be a split on good grounds. I thought he was never going to talk to me again.”

“I guess I can understand that. I wouldn't be happy, too, if my star driver talked with other teams after the first race. But it is your life, your decision in the end and as long as you try I think that's more than you can say about other people. Just think it through very well and take it day by day. Also, I'd be there more often, but I can’t get out of work all the time even if I wanted to. But you know I’m always watching you race and keeping you in my prayers.”

The Aussie let out a soft laugh. “You sound like my mum, she’s doing the same with every race.”

Shrugging your shoulders, you leaned your head against his shoulder. “Your mum’s not wrong to do that, it’s a risky business you’re enjoying. But it’s what you love so I guess there’s no way you’ll be quitting now.”

“Definitely not, but I’m glad you’re here now.” He stopped suddenly, his long fingers brushing a few loose strands out of your face. Daniel’s eyes locked with yours, switching down to look at your lips. Before you could react, his plush lips were on yours. His free hand moved behind your neck, pulling you closer to him.

Your own hands moved from his arms up to his shoulders, holding onto him with all your might, your knees already buckling from the sensations. The last time you had kissed him was back in Australia. That summer had haunted you for months - but in a good way if you were honest. You still felt his touch every night even when Daniel wasn’t there and for the longest time you had dreamed of getting that feeling back.

He pulled away, looking at your serene face. Your eyes were still closed and he couldn’t help the satisfied grin. “I really wanted to do that when you came to Silverstone.”

"There's still COVID, we should have been more careful. What if you"

"Fuck COVID, all I could think about was that smile and your lips. Kept me up at night every fucking day."

“Well, good things come to those who wait.” You returned his grin once you had looked back at him. Daniel had that broad grin he usually wore and you felt your insides tingle. “What’s it mean now?”

Shrugging his shoulders the F1 driver brushed his thumbs along your jaw. “I don’t know but I’d like to see where we're going. Take it day by day, ya know.”

“That’s a great idea I think.” You stood up on your tiptoes, grabbing his cheeks and pushing your lips against his for another kiss.

Just one kiss had changed your dynamic from friends to something more and you couldn’t wait to explore where it might lead you.

The days after you spent swimming, hiking and just exploring Monaco and the area around the principality. You'd keep your relationship under wraps from the rest of the world for now, not an easy feat with him being a famous Formula 1 driver, but it didn't mean you had to sneak around. Daniel took you on a few dates and you promised to try and be at a few more races, staying at the Renault garage, rooting for your favorite Aussie. You also met his friends and saw Max again, enjoying the time out on the water with them and knew he had needed that time off from all the drama since the start of the season, not just with the pandemic but with the Renault-McLaren issue, too.

Critical Role: Better Than Talking

Summary: In her humble opinion, Jester was pret-ty good at cheering up her friends.

Caduceus, though… Caduceus was a challenge.

A/N: I tried to write Caduceus angst but it didn’t really take... so instead you guys get more of my quasi-philosophy lol.

In her humble opinion, Jester was pret-ty good at cheering up her friends.

She knew the minimum level of destruction required to make Nott stop worrying about consequences and really focus in on a prank, she could spot Yasha’s dry humor as it slid carefully into a conversation and riff on it until half of the party were laughing so hard that they had to pound on tables - she could even kind of make Caleb smile now! No one else in the whole world could do that, except maybe Nott and Frumpkin, but they had known him for so much longer that it still felt like an accomplishment.

Caduceus, though… Caduceus was a challenge. Like a painting that you thought would be pretty easy to do, and then realized that there was lighting and perspective and lacy things that you could spend hours and hours on only to realize that you had to start over again.

She knew what kind of things he liked, of course - she wasn’t a terrible friend! Or at least she tried to tell herself that when she started panicking. He liked so many things! Nature! Plants! Cookbooks! Tea! Cool dead things! Healthy emotional conversations!

None of which were easily available on the not-quite deserted island that her party was not-quite stuck on, at least not in a form that hadn’t already tried to hurt Caduceus. People, then - she really liked gifts, but if you liked someone a nice conversation with them wasn’t a bad way to cheer up either, right? Jester racked her brain, trying and trying to think of times that Caduceus had sought out one of them to talk to, and in her despair almost came to the conclusion that there was one thing that Caduceus didn’t like for sure and it was them.

That didn’t exactly make sense, though - Caduceus had definitely chosen to come with them instead of going home with his family, and that had to count for something.

Maybe it was just her that he didn’t talk to so much. And that, she wanted to fix. Immediately.

It felt especially important after the party’s very first Heroes’ Feast, when everyone had done such a great job of making her feel better. Although, she admitted to herself, maybe it was just a little bit the need to find a distraction before she talked herself out of believing all the nice things that her friends had told her about herself that had her wandering over to Caduceus.

He was going through his maintenance ritual, checking on all his lichens and beetles and all the other small bits of life that he carried around with him. Watching him on previous nights, Jester knew this to be a fairly involved inspection and one that required him to be at a distance - no matter how friendly they all were with each other, having flesh-eating bugs crawling around near everyone’s personal items was more potential chaos than even she could handle. She was more than a little relieved to see his ears twitch in acknowledgement of her presence, followed by a gentle rhythmic tapping of his staff on the ground as he encouraged all the creepy-crawlies to make their way back inside. “Hey.”

“He-eyyy,” Jester replied, sliding to the ground with crossed legs to mirror his pose. “What’s up, Caduceus?”

Instead of spilling all his secrets, Caduceus tipped his head back slowly to regard the walls of stone that vanished into darkness above them. “Rocks, I guess. Not sure what else could be living up there, but there’s always something, huh?”

“...huh.” Jester blinked, looking up too, and realized a little too late that Caduceus had already refocused on her with a distinctly amused expression.

“That’s not what you were asking about, is it.”

She shook her head, learning forward to try and get a better fix on him. “Nope! I wanted to talk about you, actually.”

“Hm,” Caduceus said. He looked surprised, eyebrows raising just a little, which just made Jester feel even more unbalanced - why would it surprise him that she cared how he was feeling? “Okay. What about me?”

Well, she would just have to make it extra clear how much she cared. “Oh, well - are you doing okay, Caduceus?” He didn’t say anything; she needed more. “I mean, you lost your memory last night - and the day before that you almost got eaten so many times - and then Vokodo almost kidnapped you! - and earlier you said you missed your siblings, I miss my Mama too-”

She trailed off, a little breathless - before listing it off, she hadn’t even realized how much had happened to Caduceus in just the last few days, just that he had been a little quieter than usual. “Wow, that’s a lot of things… really, are you okay?”

“Whoa.” Caduceus looked a little breathless too, and he hadn’t even been saying anything. His lips bunched up on one side as he made a considering noise, scratching at his beard. “I haven’t done that before.”

“What?”

“Listed out all the bad things that happened to me.” He blinked. “That was more than usual, right? Usually I just forget them after a while.”

Jester wondered if this conversation would have made sense to anyone else in the group, searching for some kind of thread of thought to grab. It was a lot harder to talk to someone when you were trying to be serious. “You forget? Like how the people here forget? Oh my god, Caduceus, do you think someone was stealing your memories before?”

Caduceus smiled, big and slow. “Nah.” The smile dimmed a little. “Well, I guess I wouldn’t know if they were, right?”

Jester stared at him for a whole minute as his eyes flicked down, brow furrowed in thought. “Um… Caduceus?”

The firbolg in question abruptly cleared his throat and looked back up. “No, I definitely remember some bad things.”

“Oh, Caduceus, I’m sorry-”

“It’s okay, I don’t think about them much. There are a lot of happy things to think about too, aren’t there?”

Caduceus looked her over then, catching her incomprehension with an easy understanding that made her shrink back a little, and exhaled with one of those soft smiles he seemed to be in endless supply of. Jester wished she didn’t know the limits of her own stockpile, discovered this very evening. “Hey, you’ve had a pretty big night already. It’s okay for you to take a little time to focus on yourself and process. You don’t have to worry about me.”

Ah. No. Wasn’t she supposed to be doing the cheering up here?

She took a deep breath to steady herself before she could do something embarrassing like starting to cry again. And then another one, because it actually seemed to help her remember why she was here in the first place. “I do, though! Everyone was so nice to me tonight, and then when I was thinking about it I realized that I couldn’t remember anyone doing that for you, and I know you’re really good at this kind of stuff but it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have anyone to talk to, you know? We love you so much!”

At that, Caduceus looked - he looked really happy, actually, his smile curling warmly on one side and his ears perking up. “Well, I have all of you to talk to. That’s a lot better than what I had before you came along.”

“Really?” Jester urged, something loosed and flapping lightly in her chest. “You can talk to any of us?”

“Feels pretty great, doesn’t it?” Caduceus was outright grinning now, and she could feel an answering smile unfurl on her own face, no stockpile needed.

“Bet I can make it feel better,” Jester challenged, and scrambled forward to hug him. She had to kneel in his lap to get a proper angle on his tall frame, but she managed to wrap her arms around his chest and press her cheek to him and squeeze like she could hold all that happiness and connection in place all by herself.

“Oh,” Caduceus said, pleased - and wasn’t this easier than talking anyway, she wasn’t sure why she had even bothered - and went to hug her back. Caduceus gave the best hugs, warm and fuzzy and second only to her Mama’s, made even better by the way that he absently nuzzled at the side of her head with an amused huff of breath.

Jester bounced a little on her knees and nuzzled him back. Caduceus’ arms shifted, hugging her tighter, and she did it again. Nudging up aside his face, she felt him twitch and stutter out an exhale like it had come from her own body. “Okay?” she murmured.

“That tickles,” Caduceus murmured back, muffled in her shoulder, and Jester raced through happiness all the way to mischief before she could even think about stopping, an instinct that had been with her even before the Traveler.

She pulled back, vibrating with excitement. “Ca-du-ceus-”

“-oh, no-”

“Are you tick-i-lish?”

She was hoping to make him blush and squirm the way that most of her friends did when she teased them, but true to form Caduceus was nearly impossible to fluster. He just blinked at her. “Didn’t I say that?”

Just for that, she pinned his arms to his sides in another hug and nosed around his ear and the side of his neck until he was outright giggling, high and breathy and so unlike his voice that she had to pat around his head just to make sure that it was really him.

“St-stahap-pff-” Caduceus interrupted himself with a snort that made Jester giggle along with him, which must have tickled even more if Caduceus’ increased struggle was any indication.

“Aw, that’s so cute! Tickle tickle tickle!”

Caduceus snorted again and shoved lightly at her belly. Wary that Caduceus might gather his composure and tickle her back, Jester sacrificed their hug to grab the offending hand.

“No,” Caduceus squeaked, using his newfound reach to shuffle her right out of his lap.

Jester clutched his hand even tighter to keep from hitting the deck. “Wow, Caduceus, you don’t have to push.”

Caduceus did look embarrassed now, cheeks flushing a beautiful pink to match his hair. He reached out to help her keep her balance, wiggling his wrist a little until Jester let go. “I thought you were going to tickle my hands.”

“Your hands are ticklish? I didn’t know you could even tickle hands.” Jester frowned. “Caduceus, do you not like being tickled?”

Caduceus pressed his newly freed hands to his face, the pale skin only making his blush more apparent. “No, just… it was a lot.”

“Oh! It’s okay, Caduceus, I won’t tickle you if you don’t like it.” She meant it too - she had totally stopped trying to tickle Caleb when he told her that his instinct might just be to light her on fire next time even though she was pretty sure it was a joke.

Caduceus said something from behind his hands that Jester couldn’t quite catch. She reached forward and tapped him lightly on the knee. “Do you want another hug?”

Caduceus rubbed briskly at his face, and when he lowered his hands again he looked nearly as calm as usual, no trace of the frantic giggling he’d just been doing. Jester tried not to pout. “Sure,” he still said, and even when she drew back to give him the option of space he reached for her shoulder and drew her back in. She climbed back into his lap, trying to be as big as possible and wrap him up like her Mama would without sticking her nose anywhere ticklish.

They ended up with her forehead pressed to his collarbone, his hair falling in a gentle waterfall against one side of her face. “Yep,” he said warmly, “you did it, this is better.”

Jester beamed and winched her arms around him even tighter. “This is really nice, Caduceus.”

“Mhmm.” They sat for a long, calming minute, Caduceus’ chin perched between her horns, and then she felt his arms loosen a little. She prepared to pull back, wishing it could last a little longer, but then something dropped into her lap.

It took a little maneuvering, but she glanced down to see Caduceus’ hand, palm up.

She kept hugging Caduceus, unwilling to break the circle of warmth that wrapped them both, but she did have a whole extra limb to play with. She brought her tail around and, biting her lip in concentration, dragged the spaded tip lightly over Caduceus’ palm.

His fingers twitched, and Jester couldn’t help laughing as puffs of Caduceus’ squeaky laughter began to resurface. “Aw, you do like being tickled!” She could have teased him so much more - she felt like it might make him even more embarrassed and tickly, and it was nice to think of being able to break him once in a while.

But for now, she felt her friend shaking with laughter, so much of it that he had to snort and squeak every so often just to get it all out, and figured that she’d done enough cheering up for one day.

After giving the assignment, the teacher sat down on the desk. Everyone started to rip a page from their notebooks, some focused, others whispering to their colleagues. In one of the desks from the middle of the room, a boy with brown dark hair was lost in thoughts… when someone touches his arm. He looks startled to the right, sighing afterward.

“You scared me…”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.” - giggled a girl with black hair - “Davey, as your seatmate, I couldn’t help but notice you were traveling in your own world.” - she whispers so the teacher wouldn’t catch them speaking - “You don’t know what to write for your assignment?”

He shrugs, whispering too - “Hmm, actually, I might have an idea…” - Dave pauses for a moment, not wanting to talk about it - “What about you, Cass?”

“I have a few ideas in my mind, but I don’t know which one to choose.” - Cassandra twirls her hair, thoughtful, while glancing at her notebook.”

Dave slightly smiles - “Hey, I can help.” - he says, while grabbing a yellow pencil and pulling the empty paper - “Can I scribble here?” - Cass nods, and he proceeds - “Tell me your ideas, but we need to be quick…”

After a while, everyone was writing their assignment, including Cassandra, thanks to Dave’s help. But he wasn’t having any luck in progressing with the text. Dave took a deep breath after crossing a phrase.

I'm not having any luck with this.

He decides to look around the busy classroom. A sense of dread was suddenly taking over Dave, as if he was going to be the first person to talk about what he wrote. But that wasn’t the issue.

There was only one thing he could do at the moment to relieve the uncomfortable feeling. After some seconds which seemed like an eternity, Dave raised his arm. When the teacher stared at him, he tried to speak with a normal tone - “May I go to the washroom?”

...But his anxiety didn't help with it. Dave prayed internally that no one had noticed the trembling voice. After the teacher nodded, Dave, hesitantly, left his seat and headed to the door. Behind him, Cassandra Leigh was observing discreetly whilst frowning her eyebrows.

Through the big windows from the long corridor, Dave could feel the scorching that was the Californian weather. His heart was racing, so he started to walk fast, making his best effort to not start sobbing. Fortunately, there was no one else in the corridor at the moment besides him and the noises from the classrooms with the doors open. Dave turned left, to the quiet courtyard of the school. That's when he allowed himself to blink his eyes and let the tears fall.

Meanwhile, Cassandra was almost finishing her assignment. Glancing at her seatmate’s paper and noticing that he didn't write anything besides the scribbles, she put down the pencil.

Dave, sitting his back against the big tree, touched his face, angry - “I shouldn’t be here. I’m not the kind of student who skips classes…” - he reluctantly wipes a tear - “I don’t want my classmates to find out that I was adopted. It would be extremely awkward.” - a pigeon lands on the grass, looking for something to eat. Dave observes the bird - “But I could write a memory without mentioning it. God, I’m making a scene...”

He closes his eyes, taking deep breaths to try to feel calm and ease the chest tightness. He has been feeling like this these days, but today is the worst. To the point of needing to skip the class...

Suddenly, Dave heard the door of the courtyard opening, and he immediately opened his eyes.

“...Cass? What are you doing here?”

“I ask the same question.” - said the young woman, slowly approaching Dave - “The teacher did let me check you. I knew something was going on.” - Cass kneels at his side, looking concerned - “What is worrying you?”

Four words were enough to make him weep louder. She gently touches his arm - “Look, you don’t have to tell me everything in detail.” - after biting the lower lip, cautious, she says - “But I take it you need to vent to someone right now.”

Dave didn’t answer right away. Then, he laughs nervously, using his arm to clean off the tears - “I should have known you would notice my trembling voice when I asked the teacher if I could go to the washroom. You know me too well, after all.” - he couldn’t resist but smile for a moment - “I’m... glad we’re classmates… hey, you can sit here” - Dave touches the grass - “It’ll hurt if you stay on your knees for too long”.

As Cassandra accomoded herself, he began to explain what was troubling him - “I barely slept last night, so… you can see that it hasn’t been a good day for me.”

“Nightmares?” - Cass whispers.

“Yes...”

When Reyes was seven years old, he witnessed his own mother being murdered in front of him. It was a heavy situation to endure as a child, losing his only progenitor in cold blood. Dave barely had memories of his father, who died in a civil construction accident when he was just a baby. But the mother… was the only family he knew. Because of it, Dave was inevitably taken to the orphanage. Years later, he ended up being adopted, together with other kids he grew up with, by a good family. Since then, Dave has been living in the Vermont Square neighborhood, in the southern part of Los Angeles.

“So that’s why you were drinking coffee when I arrived at school.”

He nods, taking a deep breath - “Exactly.”

They stay in silence for a moment, watching together the blue sky with the white clouds in the distance. Cassandra breaks the silence - “Now it makes sense why you are feeling like that. The nightmares last night, and now an assignment about childhood memories... it isn’t pleasant.”

“But it shouldn’t be an excuse to skip the class-”

“Dave, listen...” - they look into each other's eyes, and Cass continues - “...don’t blame yourself. I’m sure the teacher is going to be understanding about your situation.”

He got up, apprehensive - “The teacher... she is going to speak to me when the class ends, isn’t she?”

“We both know the answer.”

Reyes runs his hand through the brown hair - “Oh, of course. And then she will give me advice to speak with the school counselor. I... I understand they care for my well-being, but I just don't want to bother anyone with my problems. Last week, I spoke twice to the counselor. Twice!"

“You are going through a bad phase, but it’ll get better. There are ups and downs...” - Cass got up, walking towards Dave - “And if you need to vent, you can always count on me.” - she puts her arms around him, hugging tightly. He does the same.

“Only you to make me feel better.”

As they return to the building, Dave stops at the entrance - “Uhh.. it’s going to be awkward, entering in the middle of the classroom. What if the class is already presenting the assignments?” - Cassandra turns around, looking at him - “I know it would also be awkward if I only appeared when the bell rings, but you know… unfortunately it is inevitable.”

“You’re right, it’s awkward either way. But, I have an idea to make you feel better and look forward to the end of the classes…” - she winks - “Do you want to attend the theater group?”

Dave was now feeling a mix of anxiety and enthusiasm.

“The one you spoke about a lot of times?! And you are inviting me to see you all participate?”

“Yep.”

“Well, I appreciate the invite. For real. But I need to talk to my… parents to see if they allow me to come to school after dinner. Although I'm certain they will.” - he now takes a step forward, taking a deep breath - “Let’s get going. I don’t want you to miss your assignment because of me. Oh, and… one more thing: when you become a famous actress, don’t forget about our friendship.”

Cassandra felt her cheeks flushing - “What-what makes you think that I’ll become famous?”

“You are talented. Who knows, maybe in the future you are going to act in a blockbuster movie!”

“Davey, me and other thousand girls in L.A have the same dream. Ok, I’m exaggerating in the numbers…” - she couldn’t stop blushing. One thing was her parents saying this, another was her best friend - “Ahem. It’s true that I’m one of the best students from the theater group, but let’s not have high expectations... but answering your question, of course I won’t forget you if that ever happens.”

The pink sunset sky announced that summer was coming. Dave Reyes wished the doorman good night as he entered the school precinct. There were no students in the courtyard - it had been two hours since the last class of the day was over. Dave, serene, took one last look at the sky before opening the main door. Her best friend's dinner and invitation made her feel better, even if not a hundred percent, but it was a good feeling.

Inside, on the second floor, Dave could hear a noise coming from the auditorium. As he approached, he put his hand on the doorknob …

… and saw a group of 5 young people on the stage, rehearsing their lines and laughing. Four were girls, in long dresses. The boy, who appeared to be a senior in high school, was coordinating the scenes.

“Rita, you have to speak in a more authoritative tone. That means no giggles- ”

"How do you want me not to laugh around them?" - the girl with curly hair and black eyes pointed at her colleagues - "They are my besties!"

Dave focused his attention on Cassandra, who was behind the group watching the explanations closely. "Psss, hey, Cass." - he spoke softly, so as not to interrupt the conversation. Luckily she heard him, because then she walked gracefully towards her and jumped off the stage - "Dave! There you are.” - she approaches him, touching his shoulder caringly as he smiles - “How are you feeling?”

“I’m feeling better thanks to your invite. I’m not overthinking at home.” - Dave looks around the auditorium, interested in knowing more about the play - “How's the rehearsing going?"

“Very well, actually! We are all feeling ambitious in doing our best. Of course, there is fun stuff happening in the middle, but we also need it from time to time to relax-”

“Leigh! Who is that guy?” - spoke the coordinator, staring at them -”Did your boyfriend come to watch?”

“He is not my boyfriend, Sammuel.” - Cassandra crosses her arms, feeling a bit annoyed - “Platonic friendship with boys exists, in case you didn’t know. And you are older than me, so you should know how to tell better jokes...”

“Calm down, I was only teasing you.” - he smiles - Your friend is more than welcome to watch the acting, as long as he does not reveal the dialogues and story to his classmates.”

“I won’t.” - says Dave, shyly.

“Good. Leigh, you can come back now to the stage as your friend sits in one of those chairs” - Sammuel points to the brown seats in front of him.

It's interesting watching the behind the scenes. Dave opened the schoolbag on his lap and took out the water bottle. Rita, the girl who Dave heard laughing earlier, was arguing with Cassandra. Or well, the characters.

“...I’m going to win the contest, Julia.” - she looked down to Cassandra, snobby - “If you were truly smart, you wouldn’t waste your time with this. You are going to fail miserably and be humiliated in front of everyone.”

“I refuse to accept your wish.” - she looks determined to the enemy. There is a long pause between them. Dave waits, anxiously to know what will happen next.

The snobby girl pulls out Julia’s necklace, in rage. The pearls fall down, breaking the silence of the tension. Cassandra looks around the auditorium, speechless, to make the scene more dramatic. Then, she fell on her knees, crying - “You are so evil! If you think this is going to stop me, you are… wrong.” - Cass pronounces the last word with poison.

“It’s perfect!” - shouts Sammuel, doing a sign to stop the acting - “The two of you improved this scene splendidly! The viewers are going to love this, oh that’s for sure.” - he whispers to himself - “And I’ll get a good grade for coordinating this teather play.”

Dave was preparing to get up when the older guy looked at him -”Hey you, what is your opinion?”

“I loved everything. I’m sure the theater play is going to be a success.” - he smiles as everyone is watching him mindfully - “I don’t know much about acting, but it seemed great from my point of view.”

“Hmm, good, good…” - Sammuel scratches his beard - “What is your name?”

“Dave Reyes.”

“Reyes, do you want to take part of our team? We are in need of a boy for our next theater play, and I think you are a nice option.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) developed the Integrated Guidance for Developing Epidemiologic Profiles: HIV Prevention and Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Planning to assist with compiling and interpreting HIV prevention, surveillance, and care data for state, territorial, or local HIV epidemiologic profiles. You walked into the principal’s office, dusting off the dirt from your pencil skirt. Today was the day you were going to become a teacher, you were sure of it. Hearing a voice speak to you. “Just go right in there, sweetie.” You get up and head your heels click every time they come into contact with the ground. There was another person in his office, and you felt awkward for walking in. “One more ‘mistake’ Kleinman and these kids will find themselves with a new teacher.” The principal spoke. “Oh come on, principal Merritt! Those kids love me!” The taller male spoke in a condescending tone.

Merritt rolled her eyes and pointed to the door. “Mr. Kleinman, I do believe you have to teach a class in twenty minutes.” You smiled softly before waving towards her. Kleinman smiled and winked at you. You felt your face blush as he exited the room. “Ms. Y/L/N! A pleasure to see you, and pardon me for not kicking out that… Excuse for a man. Jared doesn’t even come close to what I would expect from a science teacher.” Jared, finally. A name to put on a face. A handsome face in fact. You sat down and started your interview.

A couple days pass and you wake up around noon to a phone call. “Hello?” Your voice is soft and raspy. “Good afternoon, Ms. I am pleased to inform you that you have received your work hours and room number in the mail. Thank you.” The phone call ends and you squeal before racing to your mailbox. Room 2203, it was in the science wing due to no other rooms not being used which meant you had to be in the same wing as Mr. Kleinman. Luckily you had a whole day before you started so you got to plan an outfit and hairstyle. Tomorrow needed to come faster. You just spent the day at home watching Netflix. You got up to take a shower and brush your teeth, getting into bed after changing you slowly drift off to sleep.

You shake yourself out of bed and rush to shower. You had a whole two hours to get ready and that was just enough. Getting your bag and keys you jump into your car and drive down to the school. There you are met with Jared Kleinman, the apparent science teacher. It was obvious from the lab coat and pocket protector. “Hey, sweetheart. Take a picture it’ll last longer.” You blinked until you realized you were staring directly at him. Clearing your throat and looking down at the ground awkwardly. Good first impression, Y/N. Walking into your class and seeing that it wasn’t such a bad class layout, but it could be better. Class started in an hour so you started to move around the desks to groups. Things were going great until you heard glass breaking and a loud “FUCK” from the other room.

You rush over to see Jared standing there, hand bleeding and glass everywhere. You gasp softly and he looks up at you, quickly placing his hand behind his back. “Hey, Princess… Don’t you have to go fix your classroom?” And for the first time, you spoke back to him. “Funny, give me your hand, moron. You’re bleeding.” He gives in surprisingly easily. You grab the first aid kit and clean his wound. Humming along a soft tune from your head you heard the pitter patter of feet walking into the classroom and gasping before turning to each other and whispering. You blushed deeply and looked at Jared’s smirking face. “I-I need to go actually teach now. Be more careful next time.”

Maybe being in the science wing wasn’t SO bad.

At D13:30 one Zesku Lədʒräsk was scheduled to enter an empty fluoroantimonic acid storage tank for a routine integrity inspection.

At D13:42 an electrical surge caused a solenoid valve to open, allowing fluoroantimonic acid to enter the tank. Zesku died almost instantly.

At D13:44 the manual safety valve for the tank was closed, and the tank drain procedure was started.

At D13:49 the tank drain procedure was completed. The contents were routed to a different storage tank so that Zesku's remains could be extracted.
