Last shot from the extra credit photos for the #30daysofRae photo challenge! The problem is, I just keep taking pictures of my sweetie because she’s so stinking cute, but the #60daysofRae sounds a little overwhelming... and, I do have other things I photograph... 😉 Here’s to the start of a good week, as I sit in front of my light box I’ve had for years but never really used... daily vitamin D and exercising has been a great combo for combating the winter blues, but it’s still a big gray oppressive reality for a lot of us. If you can believe it, the time has come to make the 30th and final post for the #30daysofRae “project!” What started as a joke when I threatened to post 30 days of Rae seems to have turned into a thing... OMG THE #30daysofRae are BACK! After an unexplained hiatus, it’s time to wrap this puppy up! Ok, fine, I’ll explain it. I ended up taking almost 1,200 photos at The Great Minnesota Get-Together aka the @mnstatefair and it became this big dark scary black hole and work and life and the holidays and “man I really need to get those photos edited” and... it’s finally done!!! It’s time I post my top nine from 2019. I guess you could say I spent a lot more time with my family and less time posting to Instagram this last year, as you can see by the photos! It’s been a great year, full of the ups and downs of life, but really a lot of ups, and I’m so happy to have Rae and Kazzy in my life. This year I only posted 73 times to this account, vs. the 158 I posted the year before. (I just went and looked at last year’s top nine.) I think starting up my @jaymehalbritter account, and being kind of weirded out by social media and self-validation and content and likes and wanting something special to happen professionally, I really got in my head about Instagram and just took a big step back. Insert perfectionism and general... self-consciousness? Yep, probably that too. This also happened with my @jaymehalbritter account as well... and I was so pumped to start it! So that’s, just that. Enter today, and I’m having a new appreciation for it, having fun posting from my iPhone again, and I’m going to edit my last #30daysofRae photos this week and pick things up again there too. (Damn it! 😉) I started talking photos “officially” in like 1990, and I’ve gone through 7 years of black and white only, then to color, and in 2003, I made the switch to digital after the Associated Press told me I couldn’t shoot for them anymore if I didn’t made the switch. These of course are the Cliff Notes... I discovered Instagram a month after it came out, and really fell in love with it. (I still miss the iPhone only square format!) As it is with life, things ebb and flow, and seeing as how I am indeed a photographer, shooting professionally for 18 years, I’m resolving (right now) to just have fun with this account again, and to start putting forth consistent content with my big boy camera over at @jaymehalbritter. I mean, it’s a new year right? Time to reset and have fun with this little app again. I met the Walker’s photographer @bobbyrogers_ last week to see about doing some shooting for them, and I came away with two main inspirations. Number one, is that Bobby is a really, really great guy, and simply put, he’s quite inspiring. We had one of those constant flow of conversation conversations, and it was just cool to sit down with another photographer and talk a bit about life, and a bit about photography, and to be inspired by how gracious, and how hard working this man is. He not only is working full-time for the @walkerartcenter, but he’s doing on his own work before and after the time he puts in for them. It’s cool to see someone so passionate about photography. (More inspiration!) Secondly, he inspired me to get back to posting on the @instagram more consistently. He told me how he initially interacted with it and how it has been helping him, which was cool to hear... I think I got burnt out trying to play the insta-game, comparing myself to all of this amazing photography and likes and followers and after having so much fun with it for so long, I kind of just tapped out. Trying to manage “posting good content” on two accounts lead to just not wanting to post at all. It didn’t help I took over 1200 photos of @rae_marie_phoenix at the Minnesota State Fair to try and finish off the #30daysofRae over at @jaymehalbritter... which has become this mountain that I swear I’m going to climb! (Three more posts to go!!!) Dec. 13, 2017 • Instagram friends. I have a few questions for you. And maybe some answers. Why haven’t I posted a photo in almost a month? Why am I posting a photo that I found at the beginning of my camera roll? Is that the Layout app I see? Well, my friends, ever since I started my friendly neighborhood @jaymehalbritter account, this account has suffered. (First world Instagram problems right?) Basically I feel like I should be promoting my professional side, and my personal side suffers a bit. While my professional side in turn suffers because I have had so much work that I can’t justify spending the time to find photos to post there. (Currently 3 posts away from finishing the #30daysofRae “project” because we took, spoiler alert, like 1200 Photos at the Minnesota State Fair’s Midway and, holy sh@t if that’s not an intimidating mountain to climb when I’m trying to stay on top of work...) So, there’s that. This, is a photo from a trip to California I took, right after getting my iPhone X to go spend the holidays with @rae_marie_phoenix’s family. It was a pretty sweet trip, and since then, I have taken 46,202 photos and 1,972 videos with said iPhone. I have, a serious problem in so, so many photographical ways. This photo, is one of the rare ones were I actually was close enough with my iPhone to take a picture of birds that were not inserted artificially. And yes, I used the Layout app. For a dramatic “clash of the birds” effect. 🙃 I had actually kind of forgotten about it. By now if you’ve been following along you clearly know that this is my sweetie @rae_marie_phoenix (and her daughter Kazzy’s, back) and as kind of a joke I threatened to post #30daysofRae because... well, because it rhymes probably, and because I inadvertently take a lot of photos of Rae and, why not? (The majority of which are taken with my iPhone and never see the light of day!) So with that being said... it’s coming to the end of posting 30 posts in a row with only 3 post left... and... I never said it was going to be consecutive! (Seems like this has been going on forever posting very sporadically and such...) This is really pretty bittersweet as it’s been a lot of fun to find photos to use and and especially fun to shoot specifically for this little quirk of a project. There are a few accounts I follow where a majority of the photos posted are of one partner taken by the other partner... which is a fancy way of saying boyfriend’s taking photos of their girlfriends... 🙃 So I’m still... REALLY tempted! Also, I’m kind of a silly writer and I actually really love to write but I fear with this swipe society nobody wants to read anything anymore and while I get it, a good diatribe now and then is therapeutic, you know what I’m saying? So on that diatribic note... (I think I just made up a word) I was going to bid you ado, but I just looked up diatribe to find out if on the off chance diatribic was actually a word, and it was defined as “a forceful and bitter verbal attack against someone or something.” Much to the shock of my heart! Have I been using it wrong all of these years? I went on to read that it is less formally know as a rant... so, whew, still in the safe zone. Sometimes it takes me a hot minute to gear up for the next installment of the #30daysofRae, but the sad truth is there are only 2 more sets of photos that will make up the 30 days!!! I think I’ve already decided this is going to be an ongoing project, so don’t fear! Today’s installment is from late August when Rae and Kazzy and I went to Taylors Falls and had the most amazingly perfect day. We just got back from a 5 day stint in the Boundary Waters and I didn’t take one photo with my real camera. Today is the first day of Fall, even though it’s been feeling like it for a minute. It’s pretty cute as Rae’s daughter Kazzy comes into our room this morning and says, “When is Fall?” Rae looks at her phone and says, “It’s today!!!” Then they had a big giggle about it. Pretty cute those girls. This set of photos was actually taken last Fall and I know I have this great series of photos of Rae throwing leaves in the air but I couldn’t find it amidst the hundreds of photos I take... was it on my iPhone? Was it from another day? I could have sworn she was wearing that vest?! Where, is it?! 🙃Had to go full-frame for the last of this set of photos for the never-ending #30daysofRae (swipe for “And Kazzy!).
