From a thing to wear to an icon of culture 👘
Tumblr media
There is this hidden detail in Muzan that when I noticed I could not help but smile. Remember how he said that the thing he hated the most was change? Well coming from someone that had to live in 5 different eras is kinda funny, and it's even funny when you realize that he ended up adopting the Western fashion pretty fast. But that's the twist, if you look at Muzan's vest you come to realize that it's the exact same pattern as the kimono he used to wear. The best part? That was a thing that actually happened in history.
Tumblr media
Wanting or not, the clothing that the people used to wear represents the history they lived through. "To look seriously at art objects of the everyday, such as clothes - their discourse and practices, their meaning-bearing forms and their codes of internal and external interpretations - in an essential, and often neglected, component of any study of modern aesthetics." - Slade, 2009 Yofuku [Western Clothing] is a type of clothing that is now common all over Japan, but during a lot of time, it was a type of clothes that only selected few grew up with. The 1st contacts with these types of clothing [even if extremely different from what we now call western clothing] was in the 16th century when the Portuguese arrived in Tanegashima. With them came not only different shapes but also different fabrics. But the “true” introduction to western fashion would only happen with Commodore Matthew Perry, catharsis to the Meiji restoration, where Emperor Meiji would start to dress in a typical western military outfit, and soon after the empress would start to aper in the typical victorian dresses. In the Edo period clothing visually distinguished the social classes. "Certain articles of clothing visibly differentiated people of diverse social classes, and simultaneously distinguished an individual within a specific group. The materials, motifs and construction of military campaign coats, for example, marked their wearers as men belonging to the military class." - Milhaupt, 2014; Samurai ranked on the top, followed by farmers, artisans, and merchants on the bottom. What happen was that most of the times the samurai where poor while the merchants lived in economic success. But samurai had the privilege of using certain types of fabrics and patters, even tho most of the times they could not afford them, and so, the merchants would start to adapt the fabrics and patters they were allowed to were and would end up becoming the patrons of arts and fashion. The trends of fashion would later be documented in ukiyo-e, and not only in the work of art sense, but also in pattern books were people could browse the prevailing styles. After the 1st contacts with the westerners, what would start to happen is that slowly but surely the Japanese would start to integrate the western ways of dressing into their lives. The Japanese started to introduce some of its elements with the kimono, shoes, hats, gloves, glasses, umbrellas, etc. Then in the 19th century a full change would happen starting from the man in the highest classes to the man in the lowest classes. The emperor decided to cut his topknot in 1872 and started to dress in western clothing in official appearances, also changing some of the more cultural habits like eating meat and more wester kind of meals. In the official portraits he appears adorned with a French-style military uniform with ornaments in gold and ostrich feathers. Before this, the emperor was never a public figure, so when pictures of the Meiji Emperor became available, and he started to appear more publicly the nation would have their eyes on him and start to imitate him. Women would, for the longest time still dress in the now classic kimono, that would develop as a symbol of the old and traditional Japan. The idea of the western clothing being associated with a modernized Japan and the Kimono [that literally means “thing to wear”] to a traditional country came from the fact that the emperor would choose to wear western clothes in more formal, international events, and for religious national events would choose the traditional Japanese court dress. The western clothes will end up being a symbol of the modernization of Japan, and the Meiji government would use it as yet another tool of national control. For all the Japanese born after 1945 the western clothes became the norm. Most families would end up transforming their kimonos into western clothing pieces, and the patterns sold for kimonos would double for kimonos and western clothing.
Tumblr media
But it is funny to notice how despite it all Muzan is the one being presented in western clothing and Ubuyashiki is the one in traditional clothes, always being the contradiction of the other, but also it can also be interpretated as the Ubuyashibi family being "trapped" in the past since in hundred years the corps never killed an upper moon, the history never changed. And Muzan in his ever-changing cycle of his life, in the changing of eras and changing of personas he decided to reuse the only thing he could: his clothes. And just like him, they would adapt through the times.

rewatched some old mileapo interviews and I just find myself smiling every time mile retells his and apo's history because he tells it so excitedly with a huge smile on his face even though he probably told that story a hundred of times already. also I never realized that he said he watched apo's dramas before. he really is apo's biggest supporter 😩
Tumblr media
anon, Apo is sooooo famous, many people have watched his series! 🥺 From Mile's Wan(der) Day where the street vendor they bought scorpions from recognized Apo (which didn't make the cut SOBSSS. I know it was because Apo didn't want to take away from Mile's shine BUT STILLLLL LET MILE BRAG ABOUT HOW HE SNAGGED A FAMOUS HOTTIE)
Here's this perspective from a Thai fan who's been a fan for several years about Apo's career:
I wrote this because i saw some comments from interfans insult Apo about his famous in the past. As a thai fan for several years , I accepted that Apo is not superstar in thailand. And at that time, in previous company DID NOT EXPORT their soap opera/series, their focus market is in local thai only. But i can say that Apo is an artist IN TREND as always among hundreds artists in same company. And fandoms culture is not strong for Thai artist.
And i would like to top up a bit more that , he got a lot of choices from organizers asking to join their series especially action role which his outstanding talented , but because during that time he was studying in university.
So attend 2-3 series in a year might made him tough on time management.
In 2014-2018 under previous company contract , he was 11 filmography both main and support roles, 8-9 shows, >20 cover magazine. Also he was a model in several fashion shows. And his series still 2-3 times re-run until now.
His name&face still be remembered by wide ppl.
Hope all of my explanation can clarify you all on his famous.
From a mommy who humbly proud on son.
Which makes it even more sad Apo felt pressured to quit an art he loves to make since the terrible working environment made him so unhappy, because it seemed like he was building a strong career for himself domestically and he was beloved by TV producers and fashion designers.
So we also really need to thank Mile for making sure KPTS stayed afloat because Apo really talked about KPTS like it was a last ditch effort in acting and would have left probably for another [permanent] hiatus if it had fallen through. Maybe would have returned much older like Ke Huy Quan did in EEAAO (not that age is a problem! just so many years of projects that wouldn't have happened...).
But what we should be really envious of is Mile's Y/N Wattpad fic life... "So like, I'm rich and smart and was a model and I met this hottie while modelling but I didn't know I liked guys then and then he became super famous but then he quit acting and then fate brought us back together again and now we are very cute and gross" 💀 if I didn't love Mile so much, I'd probably hate his fortune.....
And yeah, the way they both tell the story together in the early days of their casting relationship (e.g. Funday Show) is soooo different compared to even the way they tell the story even during Kinnporsche series promo as it was airing
(starts at 2:55 here)
youtube
There's one in particular I'm thinking of during KPTS promo where Mile talks about seeing Apo on the catwalk but being too shy to talk to him before Apo approaches him… (drop the link if you have it, I gotta run to a meeting in 5 minutes).
Yeah, Mile's enthusiasm for their first meet-cute story is so obvious from the start and he progressively remembers/reveals more and more details, while Apo's is initially more reserved but now super enthusiastic about it. As @sinnadreams pointed out, Apo in Funday was testing the waters while also making Mile work for it/chase him and now he is confident and secure and Mile is even more *continues to tell longer and longer versions of the same story*
It really feels like one of Those Couples Stories couples tell about themselves. I think you know what I mean if you know.
And yes, Mile is #1 apocolleague, watch out ofc admin, Mile is not letting you have that spot!!!

My Recommendations For Doraemon Episodes (2005 Anime Edition)
if u know me u know i'm far from being the biggest fan of the 2005 doraemon anime. howeverrrr i don't hate it either cuz i'm a fan, so here's my fav episodes from the series!
p.s. one of my old posts contains many episodes from the new anime, so they won't be listed here bc i don't wanna be repetitive, not bc i don't like them enough!
☆ The Horrors Of Gian's Birthday (2007)
Tumblr media
this episode is a birthday special as u can tell from the title and it's also about 20 minutes long, orrrr if we're being precise, it's made of two 10-minutes-long episodes. at the beginning it pisses me off cuz nobita and shizuka initially forget gian's b-day and once suneo reminds them, all 3 of them and doraemon do the most to avoid attending his party. gian isn't the best person on the show and he's full of flaws but having fake friends is horrible...
「恐怖のジャイアン誕生日」 #91
☆ Nobita's Survival Trip (2010)
Tumblr media
this episode is longer than usual, about 20 minutes long and it's about a school trip who suddenly turns into a nightmare for doraemon (don't ask me why he was at a school trip just watch the episode) and the 5 kids (yes, dekisugi was with them, too).
「のび太の遠足サバイバル」  #207
☆ Swapping Bodies With Everyone (2010)
Tumblr media
nobita needs to finish his homework faster, doraemon wants longer legs, suneo wants his arms and hands to be ladylike, gian wants to know what it's like to be skinny. so they respectively switch head, legs, arms and torso with shizuka. she rightfully gets her body parts back in the end, but i wish doraemon did something about suneo's arms, he seemed truly unhappy with 'em. 💀
「みんなで体をとりかえっこ」 #221
☆ The Indiscriminate Fad-Causing Virus (2014)
Tumblr media
the episode starts with suneo and a model (or a woman who works in the fashion industry) talking about current fashion trends and then suneo starts laughing at nobita for not knowing shit on the subject. obviously, nobita initially claims he doesn't give a fuck and a couple minutes later he's crying to doraemon cuz he wants to copy suneo's hobbies, and he obviously needs some gadget to do so cuz he's not good at the things suneo does. 🥱
p.s. suneo and his mom are so cunty, no other family duo is seeing them, ever!
「流行性ネコシャクシウイルス」 #371
☆ Muscular Body Clays (2014)
Tumblr media
this is another funny but cursed episode where they change their body parts: nobita, doraemon and gian get muscular, shizuka asks for a longer nose and suneo wants longer legs.
「ムキムキからだねん土」 #382
☆ Halloween And Nobi The Frog (2015)
Tumblr media
i feel like this is one of those episodes that every hard-core doraemon fan knows, even if u haven't seen it, u have prolly heard of it if ur here. it's the episode that confirms suneo is one of those (although it's been hinted at for decades).
「ハロウィンとのびガエル」 #418
☆ Outfit Just Give It To Capanna (2021)
Tumblr media
after the animation update in 2018 the titles just kept getting weirder and the episodes more boring, are they even making original episodes anymore nowadays? cuz they're always making those horrible remakes of classic episodes... but this is the exception, it's cute as fuck. yeah, once again nobita is jealous that suneo has a passion and is good at doing what he loves, so he asks doraemon for help. it's annoying bc he doesn't want it as bad as suneo does, he just wants to keep up with him (he can't), but all these episodes with the fashion designer thing are nice so i'll focus on that. also it's cute that suneo's mom lets him wear and borrow her clothes!
「コーディネートはスネカパで」 #675

December 11th Bonus Birthday Poll #2
Have you seen this childhood show: The Next Star (2008-2014), Canada (English)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mod A: I vividly remember the Next Star season 3, 2010 (Victoria Duffield) and season 4, 2011 (Charlie Storwick, now known as Faangs) casts, particularly the people I put in brackets! The Next Star was a under-16 singing completion show on YTV hosted by Adamo Ruggiero (best known as Marco on Degrassi) in Season 1-5 and Carlos Bustamante (aka the host of The Zone on YTV) for Season 6-7. The kids would audition and then they woukd practice each episode for a specific music theme/dance style. The final six would each have a music video of a song they created that was shown on YTV (Charlie and Victoria’s were the most memorable to me!). At the end, the winner would be crowned the Next Star and get a recording contact. This show was so engaging to me (although I haven’t watched since 2011, so idk how well it held up) but it was totally iconic in terms of showcasing the fashion/music trends of the early 2010s (and also bc you could not escape the music videos if you were a pre-teen/teenager at this time haha). This was probably my favourite reality show when I was younger!]

Coco Chanel:
Coco Chanel is well-known for her timeless designs, signature suits, and little black dresses. She developed her first perfume in the 1920s and later introduced the Chanel suit and the little black dress, with a focus on designing garments that were more comfortable for women. She became a fashion star recognised for her basic yet classy ensembles mixed with wonderful accessories, such as many strands of pearls. Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel was born on August 19, 1883, in Saumur, France. Her early years were far from glamorous. Chanel was placed in an orphanage by her father, a peddler, when she was 12 years old, following the death of her mother. Chanel was reared by nuns who taught her how to sew, which led to her life's profession. Her moniker stemmed from a very different job. During her brief singing career, Chanel was known as "Coco" at bars in Vichy and Moulins. Chanel met Etienne Balsan, who promised to help her establish a millinery company in Paris, when she was about 20 years old. She soon abandoned him in favour of one of his wealthy pals, Arthur "Boy" Capel. Both men played important roles in Chanel's first fashion endeavour. Chanel began selling hats in her first boutique on Paris's Rue Cambon in 1910. She then expanded her business to include stores in Deauville and Biarritz, as well as clothing manufacturing. On a chilly day, she fashioned a garment out of an old jersey for her first taste of fashion triumph. In response to the numerous inquiries about where she obtained the outfit, she volunteered to make one for them. "My wealth is founded on the old shirt I wore in Deauville because it was cold," she once told author Paul Morand. Chanel rose to prominence in the intellectual and artistic communities of Paris. She worked with Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso on garments for the Ballets Russes and his play Orphée.
Tumblr media
youtube
In the 1920s, Chanel elevated her booming firm to new heights. She created her debut perfume, Chanel No. 5, which was the first to contain a designer’s name. Perfume “is the invisible, memorable, ultimate accessory of fashion. . . . that signals your entrance and prolongs your departure,” Chanel once remarked. The scent was in reality also sponsored by department store owner Théophile Bader and industrialists Pierre and Paul Wertheimer, with Chanel forging a strong acquaintance with Pierre. A agreement was subsequently arranged where the Wertheimer corporation would take in 70 percent of Chanel No. 5 earnings for making the perfume at their plants, with Bader receiving 20 percent and Chanel herself only receiving 10 percent. Over the years, with No. 5 being a significant source of cash, she continually sued to have the terms of the arrangement renegotiated. In 1925, Chanel designed the now renowned Chanel suit with collarless jacket and well-fitted skirt. Her designs were groundbreaking for the time—borrowing features of men’s apparel and prioritising comfort above the limits of then-popular trends. She helped ladies wave goodbye to the days of corsets and other restricting clothes.

Can You Forecast Strategy Better than a CEO?  Take this Quiz [1] [2]:
Tumblr media
Question 1: You are the CEO of J.C. Penney; should you eliminate coupon and clearance racks and replace them with branded boutiques?
Question 2:  You are the CEO of Kohl’s; should you add furniture to your offerings?
Question 3:  You are the CEO of Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, should you switch from incandescent to LED lights?
Question 4:  You are the CEO of Kohl’s (again); should you open stores an hour later Monday through Saturday as a means to decrease operating costs?
Question 5:  You are the CEO of Family Dollar, should you invest in refrigeration units so that you can sell eggs, milk, and other perishables?
Tumblr media
You may have incredible instinct and intuition for business strategy.  Your incredible instinct and intuition may be wrong, dead wrong, as were some of the CEOs and leaders of the businesses described above when they decided to let their instinct and experience guide them to predict future consumer trends.  Let’s examine these cases one at a time:
Ron Johnson made drastic changes upon assuming the leadership role at JC Penney: he replaced human retail clerks and employees with automation where possible and took drastic steps to upscale J.C. Penney’s reputation.  It backfired. Within 17 months sales had plunged and Johnson was looking for a new job.
When Kohl’s tested furniture at 70 stores they measured a net decrease in sales.  Products that had less floor space because of the addition of furniture experienced a steep drop and those 70 stores lost customers.
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store found that the LED lights made front porches look so dim that customers assumed the restaurants were closed. Kohl’s ran a trial run at 100 stores to discover that opening later resulted in an essentially negative cumulative decline in sales. Family dollar found something unexpected: the refrigerated items resulted in an increase in the sales of traditional dry goods which in turn had an even larger impact on profits.
So how could the Ron Johnson have predicted the future, and how were some of these companies able to so deftly navigate unknown and treacherous waters?  The answer lies in experimentation!  And sure, there are lots of ways that experiments can go wrong and produce erroneous or misleading data.  The experiments must be carefully planned and executed to ensure reliable results.  Sometimes the cost of an adequate sample size may be prohibitively expensive; but bigger doesn’t always mean better.  According to a 2014 HBR study “the required sample size depends in large part on the magnitude of the expected effect”.  Meaning, if a company anticipates a large effect, the sample size can be smaller.  For an effect that is expected to be less significant, the sample must be larger: the smaller the expected effect the more sampling that needs to be done to show a reliable result.  Randomized field tests can play another important role in reducing systemic bias.
Tumblr media
The key takeaway is that the experience that led business leaders to experience past success isn’t necessarily formulaic.  Any past success is just that, in the past.  Transactional data often used to justify future strategic moves is based entirely on the bast behavior of customers.  Times are changing so fast based on economic conditions, the post-pandemic hybrid work norm, fashion, politics, and an endless variety of other factors.  What was true in the past may not likely be true in the future, and without carefully deployed experimentation and data collection, corporate leaders may as well invest in crystal balls to predict future consumer behavior.

They've detailed the impact of the slow fashion trend on consumer behaviour. Their work brings attention to the growing need for eco-friendly clothing options, which is a major factor in the success (and failure) of the slow fashion movement (Domingos et al., 2022).
The factors influence American customers' decisions to buy slow-fashion clothing. The research emphasises the vital role of education and advocacy, and it highlights the importance of consumer awareness and the perceived value of sustainable practices in influencing their decisions (Chi et al., 2021).
The sector's capacity for ethical and environmentally responsible business practices. This anthology of research and essays covers the slow fashion ecosystem, from manufacturing to retail (Henninger et al., 2017).
Tiffany Ferguson and Venetia La Manna are digital influencers that show how social media can promote ethical consumption. They bring attention to the effects of clothes consumption on worker rights and the environment with interesting material that challenges fast fashion conventions (Ferguson, 2018) (Manna, 2022).
Thrift shopping and garment swaps are trendy and ethical alternatives to buying new items. Hannah Klose (@nevereverpayretail) and Big Sister Swap are two examples of creative sustainable fashion initiatives. These efforts, backed by influential people, show how the fashion industry can take concrete measures to lessen its environmental impact (Klose, 2014) (Big Sister Swap, 2024).
When it comes to public conversations about sustainability, digital citizens like social media influencers have a lot of sway. By spreading awareness of the slow fashion movement, they demonstrate that small acts may have a big impact on society and the environment. By demonstrating the interdependence of digital citizenship, activism, and sustainable living, this case study emphasises the critical role of digital platforms in promoting the slow fashion movement.

Week 6: Fast Fashion vs Slow Fashion, which one is better?
Tumblr media
1. What is Fast Fashion?
Fast fashion is an industrial trend that refers to the concept of shortening lead time (production, distribution) and offering new products to the market as fast as possible (Choi, 2014). Fast fashion refers to brands that quickly release a huge number of collections based on fashion trends and celebrities. Some key features of this business model are rapid production, low prices, frequent inventory changes, global supply chains. Take Zara is an example, Zara delivers new products twice each week to its 1,670 stores around the world. This adds up to more than 10,000 new designs each year (Stracke, 2024). But fast fashion does bring some negative features, as clothing products from fast fashion are low-quality products as they are mass-produced, there are also concerns for the environment as they waste a lot of resources and utilize dangerous chemicals due to mass production.
Tumblr media
2. What is Slow Fashion?
Slow fashion on the other hand, the need to adopt sustainable performance and a change in core values in the fashion industry ... to focus on more durable products and traditional production techniques or design concepts that have no season emphasizing quality in order to achieve sustainability. The movement encourages brands to embrace a quality-based rather than a time-based business philosophy based around slower production, ethical attitudes, and well-made and long-lasting products (Domingos et al 2022), slow fashion focus on high-quality and durable clothes which some brands are Eileen Fischer, Able, Valani,...
Tumblr media
3. Fast Fashion vs Slow Fashion
Slow fashion has gained popularity in response to the evolving world, which is increasingly highlighting various environmental issues alongside the emerging lifestyle trend of "minimalism." In contrast to fast fashion brands that prioritize high production rates on an annual basis, slow fashion brands are known for crafting products that are not only more durable but also eco-friendly. The shift towards slow fashion reflects a conscious effort towards sustainable practices and a focus on quality over quantity. This shift emphasizes the importance of mindful consumption and ethical production processes. Slow fashion promotes a more holistic approach to clothing, encouraging consumers to consider the choose eco-friendly brands.

busy pretending it's 2014.
I've been reminiscing about early 2010s aesthetics. The Tumblr girl trend peaked when I was at the impressionable age of 11, and given (mostly) unrestrictive Internet access. To be fair, my parents had zero idea of the content I would find on Tumblr.
Tumblr girls romanticized the worst things possible: drugs, alcohol, mental illnesses, substance abuse, toxic relationships, and self-harm.
As a middle schooler, I had no idea what to make of the dark side of the "Tumblr Girl". What I reminisce about is the fashion and music. I begged my mom for a pair of Vans, a skateboard (that I'd never use), and a jean jacket. Of course, I was immediately told no.
Tumblr media
What my parents couldn't deny me was access to YouTube! I had free rein on it (scary), falling down rabbit holes. Some were not appropriate for my younger self to be watching. (I blame Shane Dawson for everything wrong in my life) However, I pride myself on finding the "good music" before anyone else my age did.
So now, this is my list of the top 5 songs popularized by the 2014 Tumblr girl trend:
#5: "Sweater Weather" by The Neighbourhood.
youtube
This song is fifth to me because I think it's been overplayed and overdone. I love The Neighbourhood's early music from albums Wiped Out! and I Love You. And, in my opinion, they have many better songs. This song is a crucial part of the Tumblr girl soundtrack, so I feel somewhat obligated to have this on my list.
#4: "Tennis Court" by Lorde.
youtube
In 2014, Lorde's fashion was nothing less than iconic. This song makes my list because not only was this her debut album, but some of her best songs are on it. Songs such as "Royals", "Ribs", "Buzzcut Season", and "Team" are featured.
#3: "R U Mine?" by the Arctic Monkeys.
youtube
Arctic Monkeys were also crucial to the aesthetic in 2014. Their album AM had many other hit songs during this trend, and these songs are still popular amongst alternative indie fans today. I also spent $80 on a signed vinyl of this album in 2020 and it is still one of my most treasured items.
#2: "Robbers" by The 1975.
youtube
To this day I still listen to their entire discography, without a single skip. "Robbers" is still such an iconic song, and the vibe of the band at the time of this song's release describes the Tumblr girl vibe. Matty Healy was a Tumblr treasure in 2014. He was the Ryan Gosling of Tumblr (I'll let you form your own opinion).
Tumblr media
#1: "Tumblr Girls" by G-Eazy and Christopher Anderson.
youtube
I couldn't give any other song the number one slot, for obvious reasons this song reminds me of the 2014 Tumblr girl trend. Besides that, I love the way this song sounds.
This post was a perfect way to reminisce about a trend I was too young to understand, but now old enough to enjoy.
