a semi-charming kind of life is genuinely probably my favorite book i’ve read this year. it’s just that good. i adore darling sm. she’s so gay oh my god. the amount of times she takes disinterest in boys throughout the book in uncountable. girlie is a lesbian and the fucking allegories this book provides for coming out of the closet and being who you truly are is beautiful.

Ok one thing I don’t like about the books is the way Darling is objectified. Not by the others but by unnamed make characters.

Like I know that it’s supposed to seem strange all the marriage proposals that Darling received but it just makes me feel uncomfortable.

the “mommy issues creates writers” thing in reference to darling is so.. it’s just so. yk. so i think that queen charming was the mother that forgot her childhood dreams of being a rebel, an adventurer to be a mother, to do what’s best for her children and darling is the daughter that dared to do what her mother didn’t, break the mold. she collects stories of adventure to tell her mom so queen charming knows that she raised a child who isn’t afraid. darling writes these stories in small journal. when the journal is full, stained with dirt and ink, she’s at school. when she wrote the closing notes, it’s a night illuminated by moonlight. with the spirit of one doused in this adventure, she slipped out of school grounds to get to her castle. the journal of her life was tight her hand as she walked to her mothers room. in front of the closed, gilded door, darling placed the stained book on polished floor and knocked..

The Charming parents are fucking horrible but I also feel kind of bad for Queen Charming.

At the end of A Semi-Charming Kind of Life it's implied that QC had an eventful life before marrying King Charming and having children like a "traditional queen" now that doesn't excuse the treatment of her children, especially Darling but every Charming child was harmed in some way by their parents (if they realize it now or years later *cough cough DARING cough cough stop ignoring the bullshit he also had to endure cough cough)

Like forcing your daughter into the same boxes or mysoginy and gender roles that YOU ALSO HATED is a horrible thing to do, and letting your husband lock her in TOWER beacuse boys couldn't keep it in their pants is just...UGHHH

I feel bad that QC also has to just suck it up for the sake of family and tradition but that isn't an excuse for how she treated Darling so unfairly and how she also let her husband treat her and Daring and Dexter as well "You always have to be second place" dumb stuff.
