How amazing is all the music in Season 17? Did you love the 250th episode special rendition of “Dreamer” by Jenn Grant that played in Season 17, Episode 1?
We can’t say this enough, but Heartland really does have the best cast and crew. Heartland’s Music Supervisor Andrea Higgins has been nominated by the Guild Of Music Supervisors Canada for “Best Sync – Soundtrack, Episodic Series (Drama)”. The award is presented to the Music Supervisor that demonstrates the most outstanding level of achievement across the entire soundtrack of a drama series.
Let’s show our support for the HEARTLAND Season 17 soundtrack and Heartland’s Music Supervisor Andrea Higgins by voting on the Guild of Music Supervisors website. Voting is open until May 27th.

Do you have voice claims for any of your characters?
APOLOGIES THIS TOOK SO LONG TO ANSWER!!! I didn’t have voice claims set for most of my characters yet, and wanted to get most of the main ones picked before answering.
Ask-Imaginary-Dreamers
Flicker: Pomni (Lizzie Freeman)
- I’ve been at a loss for Flicker voice wise for a while, but after TADC came out and I heard Pomni I decided that was the perfect voice. Just the right amount of anxiety and anguish.
- Aster has the same voice btw, it doesn’t change upon death.
Casey: Masumi Sera (Ghia Burns)
- This is a bit of an off the wall choice! But, I like how relatively androgynous Sera’s voice is and I think a voice like this would be interesting for Casey, even if it’s not very close to the voice I have for him in my head. Also unfortunately I can’t find any clips for her dub voice to share and I don’t think her sub voice is fitting so… rip.
- alternatively I think apollo justice could work, quite a different direction from sera voice wise tho lol
Fade: N/A
- Fade is mute. When Fade talks via telepathy, you just kinda know the words in your head. There’s no voice or sound associated with it.
Daisy: Fluttershy (Andrea Libman)
- I just imagine her voice as very soft and quiet!
Begonia: Sunset Shimmer (Rebecca Shoicet)
- from one pony to another… not much more to note about this one tbh.
Zeus: this (Aleks Le)
- I have no further explanation
- I guess an alternative is a high-pitched monokuma-esque voice cause that’d be funny as hell
More under cut. Only Ask-Glorious-Guild and Digital-Sylveon cause I didn’t really want to figure any others out! Maybe eventually though.
Ask-Glorious-Guild:
Gloria: Sasha Waybright/Gloria Sato (Anna Akana)
- I initially did consider giving her someone with a Scottish accent, but I realized I don’t really write her with one. I do really see her with this voice though!
- As a note, Gloria is 1/2 Galarian, 1/4 Kantonian, and 1/4 Unovan. So I did want to use a voice actor whose part Japanese.
Lint: Sprig Plantar (Justin Felbinger)
- honestly just kinda going for a young kid voice for lint - choosing sprig cause it’s the first that came to mind and I’ve dressed Lint up as him for Halloween before, so I kinda associate the two of them together
- Huey Ducktales also works for them imo!
Ruins: Maki Himekawa (Yuko Kaida)
- basically just need an emotionally constipated mature woman voice and maki’s voice fits that bill. Her dub voice also works but it is so hard to find clips of the dub so uh. No link for that.
Wishbone: Miles Edgeworth (Kyle Hebert)
- Wanted a voice that sounded nice and fits with Wishbone’s more formal speech. So decided why not Edgeworth! Seon King and Christopher Wehkamp’s Edgeworth voices also work, just said Kyle Hebert’s cause that was the one easiest to find a good clip of. Honestly even most fan voices for Edgeworth could also work, like Jelloapocalypse’ or Mornal’s.
- That said, imagine this voice with the same kind of filters people use when doing a Spamton voice for the most accurate portrayal. Even though that is a bit cursed.
Jazz: Axel/Lea (Quinton Flynn)
- not much to say here this is just a fitting voice for them
Digital-Sylveon:
APP: Hatsune Miku OR Meicoomon (Kate Higgins)
- there are two options here so pick your preference
- hatsune miku cause. digital. makes sense to have a vocaloid as a voice. i think rin or len could also work.
- meicoomon cause I love meicoomon. also the dub voice definitely has the childish androgynous vibe I think of for APP’s voice.

Do you know of any Euro musical productions besides Rebecca going on in Jan-March 2023?
I'm trying to plan a vacation lol, anywhere in Europe would go
TIA!
Alright this isn't going to be a full list because I'm sure I can't find them all but I've done my best. I've decided to make this a list of all musicals in Europe for all of 2023, so that everyone might find this useful (that's code for I love making lists and got carried away).
Musicals in Europe in 2023
2022.12.10 Listed alphabetically by country and then by opening date. Countries listed below are Austria, England, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Switzerland. Click 'keep reading' to see the list.
Edit 2022.12.11: added some more musical in Austria, The Netherlands and Russia. Sources to websites where I found this information and where you can book tickets are now at the bottom of the list. Sorry they weren’t added originally, I made the original list at 1am.
Edit 2022.12.11: added performances at the open-air theatre in Tecklenburg, Germany.
Edit: 2022.12.12 added more shows for Switzerland, Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and France.
Edit: 2022.12.15 i can’t keep up with all the asks telling me to add things to the list. please see this tag (european musicals in 2023) to see asks telling me about more shows, but i don’t have the time to keep sourcing and adding them to this list anymore.

do you guys have any selfpub recs? i'm trying to support more indie authors but i have no idea where to start!!!!! preferably f/f and punchy and crunchy!
Sure! (I truly do not know what "punchy and crunchy" means, but f/f I can do.) Chelsea M. Cameron self-pubs a ton of f/f YA - the 8th book in her Castleton Hearts series comes next week. Rebekah Weatherspoon's Treasure and Shira Glassman's Knit One, Girl Two are personal favorite novella-length f/fs. In YA, Siera Maley is my fave prolific self-pub f/f author, and I'll also shout A&B by JC Lillis, which is YA/NA border. (Lillis's How to Repair a Mechanical Heart is m/m, but I have to mention it also because it's my fave self-pub YA of all time.) Chelsea M. Cameron has Style in YA, and Kelly Quindlen's debut, Her Name in the Sky, is self-pub as well.
Fiona Zedde's another one who does adult - try Femme Like Her and Stud Like Her. A bunch of authors recently started trad-pubbing who used to self-pub, so you can check out older titles by Rachel Lacey, Chencia Higgins, and I have shouted many times about my love for Casting Lacey by Elle Spencer, though a queer pub bought it. Also, I will shout out myself, because I have an f/f NA novel called Out on Good Behavior, and I'll also mention Lily Seabrooke, whose work I haven't read yet but which is very much on my radar because I love foodie romances and she has a whole series of them: https://www.goodreads.com/series/327100-taste-of-port-andrea (Also, the first book has a bi trans girl MC, which is a serious needle in a haystack in Sapphic romance.) Oh, and for older (as in age-wise) romances, you'll prob never find those in trad pub f/f romance but Courtney Milan has Mrs. Martin's Incomparable Adventure and Ceillie Simkiss has Second Wind (and also a bunch of other self-pub f/fs.)
You can also find indies in groups, so if SFF is more your thing, for example, the Kraken Collective is a great place to find a whole bunch! https://www.krakencollectivebooks.com/

Kate Dickie, Natalie Press, and Martin Compston in Red Road (Andrea Arnold, 2006)
Cast: Kate Dickie, Tony Curran, Martin Compston, Natalie Press, Paul Higgins, Andrew Armour, Carolyn Calder, John Comerford, Jessica Angus, Martin McCardle, Martin O'Neill, Cora Bisset. Screenplay: Andrea Arnold. Cinematography: Robbie Ryan. Production design: Helen Scott. Film editing: Nicolas Chaudeurge. Music: Glenn Gregory.
Andrea Arnold's Red Road walks the fine line (not always steadily) between psychological drama and melodrama, between hard-nosed realism and sentiment. At its best, it takes us somewhere we haven't been (and probably didn't want to go), the Glasgow housing project of the film's title, and immerses us in some desperate lives. It uses the hand-held camera technique associated with the Dogme 95 moment splendidly, so that we stay off-balance physically as well as emotionally throughout the film. At its worst, a rather perfunctory sort-of-happy ending, it feels like an unconvincing attempt to wipe away the film's grit. It's a story about Jackie (Kate Dickie), a young woman who works as a professional voyeur, spending her days watching a bank of video monitors that record the goings-on in a particular slice of Glasgow. When she spots malfeasance, she can alert the police. But mostly she's watching people going about mundane tasks in decidedly unlovely places, so small wonder that her attention wanders and she fixates on individual people, such as a man walking his aging English bulldog. And eventually she lights on someone she knows: His name is Clyde (Tony Curran), and she has reason to become obsessed with him, because of something that happened in the past. Arnold lets us piece together the story as the film goes on, and she does so skillfully. It was Arnold's first feature -- she had previously won an Oscar for best live-action short with Wasp (2003) -- and it earned her much praise, including the Jury Prize at Cannes. Whatever its faults, it repays your attention, not to say your endurance of some of its uglier moments.

UK Survey Highlights HIV Care Satisfaction
Unveiling Insights from the UK's Largest HIV Survey
The Positive Voices 2022 survey, conducted by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), offers a comprehensive look into the lives of people living with HIV in the UK, shedding light on their satisfaction with HIV care and treatment but also highlighting enduring challenges.
High Satisfaction with HIV Care and Treatment
Continual Improvement in HIV Services
The survey, completed by 4,618 individuals diagnosed with HIV, indicates a high level of satisfaction with HIV care services, with an average rating of 9.4 out of 10 in 2022. This rating shows an improvement from 9.3 in 2017, reflecting the ongoing enhancements in HIV treatment and care.
Treatment Plans and Regimens
Most participants (91.7%) expressed satisfaction with their current treatment plans. A notable shift is seen in the regimen, with 54.0% now receiving a single tablet regimen, up from 35.7% in 2017, indicating advancements in treatment simplicity and efficacy.
The Persistent Challenge of Stigma
Disturbing Levels of Discrimination
Despite the advances in treatment, the survey reveals that stigma remains a significant issue. A concerning 4.3% of participants reported verbal harassment due to their HIV status, and a similar percentage faced discriminatory remarks from family members.
Impact on Self-Esteem and Healthcare Experiences
The survey finds that one in three people reported low self-esteem linked to their HIV status. Additionally, there is anxiety about being treated differently by healthcare staff, with one in ten people not disclosing their status to anyone outside healthcare professionals.
Mental Health: A Crucial Aspect
High Prevalence of Mental Health Conditions
Alarmingly, 22% of participants reported symptoms of anxiety or depression, with half of these individuals diagnosed with a mental health condition. This statistic underscores the need for integrated mental health support within HIV care.
History of Violence
The survey also highlights a high incidence of physical and sexual violence, with more than one in four experiencing physical violence. This aspect further complicates the mental health challenges faced by those living with HIV.
Voices of Advocacy and Support
Clare Humphreys' Observations
Clare Humphreys, Consultant in Health Protection at UKHSA, notes the encouraging satisfaction with HIV treatment and care. However, she stresses the prevalence of stigma and mental health issues, highlighting their impact on accessing care and overall well-being.
Alex Sparrowhawk's Perspective
Alex Sparrowhawk, from the Terrance Higgins Trust, calls for further work and investment. He points out that while satisfaction with HIV care is high, there is a need for broader support, including psychological services and social and welfare support, especially as people with HIV live longer.
Deborah Gold's Call to Action
Deborah Gold, Chief Executive of the National AIDS Trust, emphasizes the survey's role in revealing the inequalities faced by people living with HIV. She advocates for meaningful engagement to address these challenges and the prevalent stigma.
Conclusions and Future Directions
Ministerial and Organizational Responses
Public Health Minister Andrea Leadsom and other health officials recognize the importance of talking about HIV status and tackling stigma. They reiterate commitments to ending HIV transmission by 2030 and expanding mental health services.
The Importance of Testing and Prevention
The survey findings also highlight the critical role of HIV testing and the benefits of PrEP in prevention strategies. It reinforces the message that effective HIV treatment prevents transmission, underscoring the importance of awareness and testing.
Addressing Systemic Challenges
This extensive survey paints a picture of progress and challenges in the landscape of HIV care in the UK. While there is commendable satisfaction with treatment and care, the survey brings to light the crucial issues of stigma, mental health, and the need for comprehensive support. It calls for a collective effort from the government, healthcare providers, and communities to address these systemic challenges and barriers, ensuring that everyone living with HIV can thrive.
