koarai/okudera headcanons post bc i am filled with affection for them after watching the 3rd stageplay

They've been friends since grade school. In high school they've wound up in different classes and friend groups and don't often hang out at school, but they still often wind up walking home or to Border together.

While they were in C-rank, they became huge fans of Azuma from watching his squad's matches and tried to make it to every one to cheer them on.

They each decided independently on becoming Attackers, but Okudera was a little bit relieved to see he'd be with someone he knew when they all split up on their enrollment day.

Okudera developed a huge crush on Azuma in C-rank, and was extremely embarrassed by Koarai's pestering Azuma to lead their squad when they attained B-rank.

Azuma being their captain was basically entirely a result of Koarai's scheming. They both talked about it, but this was fully a what-if fantasy in Okudera's mind and he did NOT think Koarai would actually go out and try to make it happen.

They're both still a little shy around Katagiri and his squad after all the time they spent watching and admiring their iteration of Azuma Squad. When A-rank wars are happening, they'll sometimes go with Azuma to watch Katagiri Squad's matches.

Okudera is trans, which only a few people outside his squad are aware of at Border (mostly people who knew him in middle school before he socially transitioned). When he first came out, Mako was the first person he told (and Koarai not long after). A lot of his Border wages/bonuses go toward saving up for further medical transition when he's of age.

between them, Okudera is the first to realize he has feelings for Koarai (and frets about it endlessly without telling anyone, agonizing over whether he should tell Koarai but not wanting to risk their friendship). Koarai is the first to confess his feelings (possibly impulsively blurting out a "I like you" only seconds after realizing as much himself).

After "graduating" from Azuma Squad, they and Mako stay in a squad together with Okudera as their captain, probably recruiting a younger Shooter or Sniper to round out their ranks.

Okudera's little brother is very bright and very loyal to his big brother. He is always very rude to Koarai, who is always very rude in return, though they don't actually dislike each other.

Koarai's parents are very fond of Okudera and supportive of their relationship - which means a lot to Okudera, whose parents are less accepting.

The boys don't tell anyone at first when they start dating, although Azuma and Mako are way too observant and know them way too well not to notice lol. they have to pretend to be surprised when Koarai and Okudera break the news a few weeks later.

okay here's what i think the all-stars dynamic looks like: komori is yaku's megafan. iizuna is yaku's friend. sakusa respects iizuna and loves his cousin so he's belligerently civil with yaku and yaku is passive-aggressively kind in turn. yaku likes atsumu because they're the same kind of straightforward and so he's on atsumu's side whenever atsumu and oikawa beef, which means oikawa does NOT like yaku, made even more so by the fact that yaku and iizuna are friends. iizuna doesn't realize oikawa has petty one-sided beef with him and keeps trying to befriend him/form an "upperclassmen coparenting setter duo" that they can lord over atsumu and kageyama while everyone silently watches in horrified fascination. atsumu and oikawa would throw down but don't because it'd make hinata sad. oikawa and ushijima are civil enough to share drinks at the bar and ushijima actually gets drunk enough to spill his entire sob story and an apology ten years late but, hey, better late than never. ushijima and kiryuu are bros who bond over having goshiki as a junior and goshiki will tell anyone and everyone what an honor it was to have played with THE ushijima wakatoshi in high school and what an honor it is to be currently playing with THE kiryuu wakatsu on the azuma pharmacy green rockets and that it's such an honor to be playing with the both of them together. kiryuu still has yet to figure out the key to understanding bokuto but likes him well enough to roll with whatever he does, and bokuto ropes kiryuu into hanging out with him, washio, yaku, and tora. tora and all the others from the second-year gen unite into some terrible nightmare squad that collectively own a brain cell (some things you just never grow out of), which means at any given point you will find them causing absolute chaos. aran is on damage control and it gives him a migraine, but he and iizuna bond because four out of seven in this nightmare squad fall into inarizaki-itachiyama joint custody. in the meantime hyakuzawa is nervously fluttering around because he really doesn't know anyone other than his fellow first-year gen peeps, but the middle blockers take him under their wing even tho hakuba scared him by chanting "one of us! one of us!" when they dragged him out to eat. hinata feels like a proud parent when he sees this and tells kageyama that he should do the same thing to make atsumu, oikawa, and iizuna get along, to which kageyama goes "wait, they don't?"

Any thoughts on the old Azuma squad with Kako, Ninomiya and Miwa?

this is probably the dynamic that cancels each other out the most. they're all kind of disasterous, but if you shove them together they negate each other enough to be an actual fucntional squad. that said? definitely the squad that would implode if stuck in, say, an elevator for fifteen minutes. ninomiya thinks this is his own personal hell. kako thinks it's her own personal heaven. azuma masters zen meditation because it's the only way to deal with the stress of this squad. tsukimi videos the funniest fights and sends them to the operator group chat, who all give her money and sweets to compensate for her suffering. miwa is over here in the corner, talking to his dead sister under his breath because boy never got grief counseling and needs to convince himself border is worth it. they crush everyone else in rank wars while kako and ninomiya hold a cool pose contast that only one of them is aware of. miwa and azuma strengthen their mother/daughter bond via the power of MEAT.

A. It's a trigger called "Katoptron"[kanji: headdress] that reads the shape of nearby objects or people and transforms your and your allies' Trion body into that shape.

Q. What did Yuma think of his father's Side Effect?

A. Until he inherited it, he thought it "sounds convenient"

Q. If Yuma lies, does it make him sick cause of his Side Effect?

A. I don't think so, but when he looks in the mirror, maybe he'll see smoke coming out of his own mouth?

A. Yes, if Jin doesn't show up at the meeting place he does that, but most of the time, Jin does show up by himself.

As for the Saber cast, idk about the whole bit about them being the most used to fighting people who hate them, every Rider's been through that one point or another. However, I can't imagine that they wouldn't be glad for the excuse to shove some very sharp and pointy objects into Azuma. Especially Rintaro, who I think would've liked Keiwa quite a bit as a fellow Secondary Rider.

CX ch 45 thoughts! - you three did good work

I feel like this is a very specific phrase --that you don't have to change -- to start this new part of the investigation.

Once again enjoyed Azuma being involved in scenes where he is not acting repressed or vaguely sinister. I think they all have more interesting aspects to their post-timeskip characters that chill set-up chapters are great at showing.

Why does Sato look so extra and evil in every panel he's in? It feels like a running gag at this point. He's been doing this the whole story and it honestly has made me really enjoy his character. The way Sato is framed is just so blatant and unsubtle that it goes back around to being mysterious again

Enjoyed the additional Arthur characterization.

Palma swimming for two months is such a perfect encapsulation of what rocks about this series. It's the fun mix of intrigue, whimsy, and unsettling horror. She somehow feels like she's been in the story the whole time.

Also the Bill Morse, zombie island is very, very cool world building, and I am excited to see what theories and links people smarter than me will find! I appreciate how we were eased into Palma's character, and now that we like her, Ishida can drop wackier and wackier ideas.

Nude is fine. His new "living" predicament is the most interesting thing about him right now, but I feel like the author enjoys drawing him. But most importantly...

Ely's back in the spotlight!

Ely continues to be great, and appreciate the lack of love triangle (so far). It's been fun seeing the romance subplot develop.

I hear people saying Ely hasn't had an arc yet, but a) I'm sure it'll come in due time, b) Ely has always been a emotionally mature character, and c) Ely is very important for fleshing out Azuma's and Tokio's personalities, whose arcs and emotional states have been given most of the focus post-timeskip.

She hasn't really been given an impetus to change. Her current function in the story is to push the other two to grow through their stubbornness (or "relentless"ness). The not-talking subplot didn't overstay its welcome because she could read both of them enough to call them out on it. She knows how they think and how their personalities interact. I'm excited for her to be front and center again!

To wrap up, I'm looking forward to see this new four-man squad interact with each other. The Tokio-Mic-Mike dynamic will be missed, but it will be interesting to see how Tokio's leadership abilities work under three characters who might not follow orders as militantly.

Synopsis: Ninomiya reveals a little something during the before party for the away mission.

A/N: Too used to the jap sub so you'll have to deal with a few japanese honorifics in between :')

"Are you drunk...Ninomiya?" The man in question snaps his head up at the mention of his name, blinking to see who had asked. He felt a little light headed from the alcohol, an odd feeling muddles his brain so it takes a while for him to realize it's Azuma who's speaking to him. He seems to have a worried look from what little of his face he could make out.

"Uh...huh...?" He answers, unsure what the question even was.

"Haa...we really should've kept the party alcohol free." Azuma takes the glass out of Ninomiya's hand, but he reaches for the drink again. Azuma chuckles at his attempt to retake the glass and pours him a new one of orange juice instead. "Have this, it’ll help clear your mind."

“Looks like you’re quite attached to your kouhai, Azuma-san?” Ema added. The man just nods, a small smile on his face. No matter which squad they were in now, he couldn’t help but have a soft spot for his juniors, and from the looks of it he had two new ones to look after. It always made him proud seeing them come such a long way from back when he first met them.

"It's rare seeing him like this ahaha, you'd be surprised to even catch him smiling these days, much less outright drunk." Inukai piped up from a different table. "Maybe the stress of the away mission got to him?" He pondered, swirling his wine glass filled with grape juice.

"Well, I'm definitely worried. It feels scary not having Jin-san come along." Yoko spoke. "And I'll definitely miss my family too...we're gonna be away for a long time." She grumbled, poking at the food in front of her.

"Ahh, you're right." Suwa sighed from beside her. "Man, I'm glad I don't have a girlfriend, she'd probably cheat on me while I'm away."

"As if anyone would want to date you in the first place." Kageura uttered under his breath, earning a loud ‘What didja say, you punk?!' from the other. Ikoma takes this opportunity to slowly sneak a hand across to another table to grab a glass of alcohol, but unfortunately for him, Tsuji notices.

“Tsuji…you’re a good guy…just let it slide this once…” He whispers. The boy simply shakes his head and moves it just out of reach. Ikoma flops his head on the table in defeat, clearly he needed a new accomplice for his crimes.

"I have to say tho, if there's anyone I can't imagine having a girlfriend it has to be Ninomiya-san." Satoshi mentions offhandedly, but the topic piqued people’s interests and they started talking about it. A few join in, pointing out how he's always so stoic. Telling him he should relax a little and maybe he'd be less scary and more approachable. Ninomiya just zones out at the commotion, being bombarded with all these suggestions made him feel queasy. His mouth feels a little dry so he takes a big sip of his orange juice.

"I have a fiancé."

Immediately the room goes quiet enough to hear a pin drop. The silence prolongs for what feels like a whole minute before everyone starts talking over each other.

"WHAT?!"

"NINOMIYA-"

"WHO IS SHE??"

"DID YOU BLACKMAIL HER, HOLY-"

“NINOMIYAAA-”

"HOW???WHEN?????WHO????????"

“WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL US?!?!”

Even some of the more quieter members pitched in to voice their disbelief at his statement, pestering him about the details. Azuma tries to calm them down, but the crowd just keeps going. Ninomiya starts feeling irritated at all the noise, but his mind isn't too clear yet and he struggles to relax. But some of the things really struck him, namely the blackmailing part. Sure he knew he wasn't exactly the friendliest but he'd never stoop to blackmailing. He gets increasingly angry that they'd accuse him of such things, and before he knows it he's talking again.

"I didn't blackmail no one” He frowned, pointing an accusing finger at the general direction of the crowd. “He's the one who...proposed."

Another pause and the room erupts with even more questions than before.

“HIM???”

“IT’S A GUY HOLY SH-”

“NINOMIYAAAAHHHH-”

“WHO IS HE?? TELL US HIS NAME!!”

“IS HE HANDSOME??”

“NINOMIYA-SAAN CONGRATS!!”

“IS HE REAL??”

“SEE?! NO GIRLFRIEND!”

“SHOW US A PICTURE!! PLEEEAAASE!!”

The screamings doesn’t stop, seemingly getting louder by the second. The ruckus gets so out of hand that the group ends up getting kicked out of the establishment.

“Ugh…can’t believe we got kicked out…” Taichi lamented while dragging his feet on the ground.

“Honestly, I’m surprised we even got to stay that long.” Yuko says while typing away at her phone. “Needless to say we probably won’t be welcome there for a while, how embarrassing.” She texts Nasu to let them know of their recent shenanigans as Sayoko sticks close to her.

A little ahead of them stood Obishima, doing a 90° bow in front of Azuma with a very unstable Ninomiya clinging to his side. “Thank you very much for looking after me! I am in your debt!” The older man looks on in shock at the exaggerated gesture, unsure how to respond.

“T-there’s no need for something so formal.” He chuckles nervously. “I just thought it would be good to let loose a little before the mission.” Despite his words, she salutes him and walks back to Yuba who gives her an approving nod. Then together they walk off to their base.

Slowly, little by little, everyone leaves. They all thank Azuma for the good time and go back home, ready to spend just a few more days in their familiar homes before being sent off to space for months. Eventually only the Ninomiya squad and Azuma are left at the park.

“Do you boys need a ride home?” Azuma asks the two next to him.

“We hate to bother you but yes, we’d appreciate it.” Tsuji Spoke up. He looks at his Captain. “Ninomiya-san clearly doesn’t look like he can drive so…” Azuma just laughs, saying it wasn’t a bother and offers the three of them a ride home. They gratefully wait for him to fetch his car and get inside, Ninomiya taking the front seat and the other two in the back.

The car ride only stays silent for a few minutes before the comfortable stillness is interrupted by Ninomiya’s phone ringing. It comes as no shock to anyone that it’s a default ringtone. He clumsily fetches the device from his coat pocket and holds it to his ear.

“Baby…” Chaos ensues. Tsuji chokes on his saliva with Inukai desperately trying to stifle his laughs. Azuma on the other hand accidentally presses too hard on the break, bringing the car to a sudden stop. All three try to regain their senses, attempting to comprehend what they had just heard. We got kicked out….” Ninomiya slurs out his words. The sight itself is enough to make anyone question reality. The Ninomiya? Calling someone baby??

“Quick! Tsuji! What’s the date today-” The blond manages to wheeze out in between some of his escaped snickers. “I have to jot this down pfft-” He doubles over with tears pricking his eyes due to all the laughter.

“Apr-” Interrupted by his own coughing, Tsuji struggles to breathe. “April 20” He whisper-screams to his team mate, suppressing his own tears.

“That’s enough, you two.” In spite of his words, Azuma finds himself chuckling. Meanwhile, Ninomiya is completely unaware of his surroundings, his full attention on his whole instead. He listened closely to his fiancé’s voice as he reassured him that he wasn’t the reason they got chased out. Their conversation goes on for nearly an hour, even after Azuma drops them off at their base. 

Needless to say, when Ninomiya woke up the next morning, he did not look forward to going to Border.

sorry if someone already posted this but holy shit the wt twitter account is actually answering qnas again which is big since the last question at all was in 2019 about a character theme, and then the time before that was 2015? 2016?, christ

but they will post qnas for 5 days total (today + 4 more days) which for today's qna, the last question has spoilers for volume 23 which hasn't been animated at all (also there are 5 questions)

Q: Who was the Operator of Former Azuma Squad (Ninomiya / Kako / Miwa)?

A: It's Tsukimi-san. (it says just tsukimi, but it is extremely likely that it is ren tsukimi, the operator of miwa squad)

Q: I heard that Izumi was the only one who could challenge Ninomiya. If they fought, would his master, Izumi, win? I would like to know the winning percentage!

A: I think Ninomiya would win about 60% of the time in a one-on-one match. In a team fight, Tachikawa Squad would win by a wide margin, in addition there were many occasions when Izumi beat Ninomiya.

Q: Did Shiki-san of Nasu Squad become an operator because she is not good with men?

Summary:

Seventeen-year-old Jirou Azuma lives a quiet life with his grandfather, utilizing his supernatural ability to speak with animals to befriend and protect them. Both Jirou and his grandfather are descendants of a long-standing shinobi clan, training in combat to keep the art of battle alive within their family. Jirou's life is thrown into upheaval after rescuing a seemingly normal black cat, Ragou, only to discover that the cat is actually a mononoke—a demonic spirit that has long been at war with mankind. When a hostile mononoke comes looking for Ragou, Jirou uses his shinobi training to jump to the cat's defense, but immediately suffers a mortal wound.

Faced with the decision of whether or not to devour Jirou's fading energy and restore himself to full power, Ragou instead chooses to give his remaining energy to Jirou. Reviving the boy, the transfer also grants him great supernatural powers that complement his own shinobi fighting style. This act is witnessed by Ryousuke Shiba, an officer in the Bureau of Espionage whose job revolves around dispatching aggressive mononoke. Shiba extends Jirou and his grandfather an offer: to join the Bureau's new squad, Black Torch, and help them battle powerful mononoke who seek to devour innocent people.

The problem is I love my German UR lineup with Aegir, Friedrich and my beloved Ulrich von Hutten. I have August Avon Parseval and Emden in that lineup too with Mainz finishing it off. Legit all the ships sans Mainz are all some kind of my type of shipgirls with Ulrich and Aegir being #1 and #2 respectively and Mommy FDR and AvP being tied for third

Day 15 - Favorite B-Rank Unit

Okokok, Ikoma squad is just. Ikoma is like the most easygoing captain who probably listens more to what his squad mates have to say pertaining to the battle rather than him giving the orders. And they’re still in the top five? However they do it, I’m sure Maori questions her sanity. Or Iko’s, for that matter. And in the selection exam, when she compares Ikoma to Osamu after what she heard from Wakamura about Hyuse. “Would my captain do something like that?” You can’t tell me the whole team dynamic isn’t amazing. 😭

And then we have Azuma squad, with an amazing captain and sniper, two great attackers that have been likened to a pack of wolves or smth. Like their tactics rely heavily on team play with Azuma cleaning up if need be. I just think it’s a really good team dynamic. Okudera and Koarai make such an interesting duo. Like they don’t seem like they’d get along on a normal day, what with their differing personalities, but they actually make their teamwork work and they do get along so well. And omg their school friends, Okudera with Torimaru and Tokieda, and Koarai being friends with Ken and Taichi. I think I cried (good tears) just imagining those friend groups interacting. Like, Imagine if Satori, Taichi, and Koarai’s hyper personalities were actually shown in the manga??? Yes please, I’d live just to see that interaction and then I could die happy. Imagining Okudera, Torimaru, and Tokieda watching that group and being like “I hope we never turn out like that,” or something along those lines. 😭 Omg, I’ll stop rambling.

Also, the fact this is the third iteration of Azuma squad. That Azuma took them under his wing to mentor them? Just like he did with his other two squads. It’s just yes.
