I said this in a whole reblog, but just copy-pasting to a separate post because I think it'll give some reading comprehension and reblogs don't show up in the search feature.. again, I'm reiterating what I said in another post.
Go check out @demidokuriya 's post for this; OP's post made me put this all down in like. 20 minutes. Mind went vroom vroom cuz HEY THEY'RE ONTO SOMETHING.
(They also reblogged the post with some hint to some behind the scenes of what led to the ideas if you wanna check that out)
Look below at how, when Mineta told AFO to spare Tokoyami, AFO specifically went "..."
He remembers Jirou and thinks, The braying howls of the weak...
He was going to take Tokoyami's Quirk. He took Hawks'. But after Mineta pleaded with him, AFO just straight-up left and didn't take anyone else's Quirk.
AFO saw Yoichi in Mineta.
Tumblr media
These scenes are near-identical to each other.
Tumblr media
Mineta and Yoichi (at that time) are both much smaller than the normal person at their age
They're both hurt, yet dragged themselves up from the ground to throw something at AFO, to get his attention and make their voice
Both are considered weak, even if they have a Quirk (Mineta's Pop-Off and Yoichi's undeveloped Factor)
The fact that Yoichi got AFO's attention here by throwing a can at him, while Mineta got his attention by throwing a Pop-Off ball; and it stuck.
Mineta's call for his attention landed and actually stuck to AFO. This is unlike when Yoichi and his can bounced off, and AFO kicked him, not listening to him; AFO listened to Mineta and left Tokoyami alone, technically doing what Mineta wanted—to not hurt this person.
AFO just went on to hurt more people away from Mineta's [Yoichi's] eyes so the small weakling wouldn't see.
Yoichi and Mineta both cried to AFO to not hurt in his ways, when AFO was intent on stealing people's Quirks
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AFO even stole Hawks' Quirk during this time.
He had time to steal Hawks' Quirk, and though he could've tossed him to the side, he let Hawks stand in his way.
He had the energy. Right after this event, he flew off and left the scene. But he didn't go for Tokoyami immediately.
And this let Mineta play his part, and remind AFO of Yoichi.
Tumblr media
"A putrid, festering Quirk Factor."
That sounds like Yoichi, AFO.
".. such garbage."
Hey hey hey, what did Yoichi throw at him when they were kids?
A discarded can. Garbage.
This chapter (385) where AFO listens to Mineta is literally called [A Youthful Urge].
Mineta told AFO to take his Pop-Off (hurt him) instead. But last time, AFO hurt Yoichi by kicking him; this time, AFO not only listened to Mineta to not hurt Tokoyami, but didn't touch Mineta at all.
Even though this time, Mineta [Yoichi] offered to take that place of suffering.
Yoichi didn't do that back then. AFO just turned on little Yoichi anyway.
Yoichi through his whole existence is literally [the braying howls of the weak]. AFO acknowledges he's weak and idealistic, yet he still loves him.
Tumblr media
Side note about this panel, I think it's interesting that in this vision, this was the first time we saw Yoichi's eyes: when he was being defiant, despite being pushed down by someone much stronger than him.
Really characteristic of him, honestly. Yoichi's soft-spoken and frail, but it's always reiterated that Yoichi had a powerful will against his stronger big brother.
Mineta at this moment reminded him too much of Yoichi, because the two scenes are near-identical to each other. Parallels, really.
Reiterating something from OP's post that I reblogged this from;
"The reminder of his brother made him uncomfortable, so he hurried away."
AFO didn't want to hurt Yoichi again.

Top 5 meals/food-related moments?
have a good day :)
oh ho ho ho so I see you have decided on a nuclear option. Well, do I have just the thing for you
Kayoko telling Kenji that Shiro Talks About Him in What Did You Eat Yesterday? Season 2, Ep. 11
Tumblr media
Shiro has a really hard time verbally expressing love, especially about Kenji to Kenji. Which is why you, me, Kenji, everybody has to understand Food As Love is Shiro's entire shtick. In season 1, Shiro outed himself to Kayoko because she thought he might attack her and she calmed down about Shiro immediately after she found out he was a lawyer. And we see Kayoko ask Shiro about Kenji from time to time. BUT in Season 2, Kayoko sees Kenji in the supermarket and instantly recognizes him off of Shiro's description of him alone. And she treats him like a celebrity because of how much Shiro talks about Kenji. So you can imagine that I was absolutely bawling my fucking eyes out when Kayoko said this to Kenji at dinner:
"But you know, I already knew your preferences so well. When I go shopping with Kakei-san, he talks about you all the time...He says it with a smile"
Complete with flashbacks of Shiro talking about Kenji, what food he likes, why it's okay to get something a little more expensive. Kenji is a loud, proud, more femme gay man who is not able to hide his queerness the way that Shiro has. Kenji is also an incredibly patient and understanding man who knows Shiro is grappling with a lot of internalized homophobia, the weight of knowing he can't give his parents the grandchildren they want, parents who struggle with his sexuality. Kenji knows that Shiro loves him, but we know he can be hurt by it sometimes. So Kenji hearing from Kayoko how much Shiro talks about him was something that was so fucking needed. Not necessary, but needed. And I could not hold back my tears to see Shiro smiling away talking to Kayoko about his boyfriend, because he has so few people he can and will do that with.
Making "Magic", Our Dining Table (Bokura No Shoutaku), Ep. 5
Tumblr media
gif by @bubblegeon
Tumblr media
gif by @troubled-mind
Absolutely one of my favorite moments in the entire series is Tane appearing with this instant ramen package in his hand asking if Minoru wants to make "magic". I love it for so many reasons. I love it because Minoru has sacrificed so much in his life to help take care of Tane and because of that, because of who Minoru is, because of who his father is, because of who his mother is Tane is an extremely extremely emotionally aware kid. My sweet, sweet, beautiful baby boy can tell something is up with Yutaka after they run in to his older brother at the grocery store, and he can tell something is up with Minoru after they meet with his ex-girlfriend at the restaurant. And Tane repays all the care he is giving by these two by trying to find a solution he thinks will help make them feel better. Which is of course to make ramen fried rice.
Now. There is even more to this than Tane just picking up this meal his mother used to make a lot. Because Tane's mother died when he was two. He would have little to no memories of his mother, but Minoru would. Which means Minoru would have had to teach him this, carrying on her memories, her stories, her comfort to his baby brother. Minoru teaches Tane how to smash the ramen the same way their mother taught Minoru to do it. AND there is even more to this that is not really addressed but is something I (and I'm sure others) realized a bit later. Because I have made this meal multiple times and it is...so easy. I mean, 20 minutes rice in the rice cooker the day before, smash the noodles, I microwave them for 3 minutes, drain the water, and then five minutes later I've got a complete dish. It takes almost zero energy and it is great for my high pain days or my super low days. Minoru talks about his mother being sick, and how she really didn't let on to it. But the ramen fried rice is a good indication to me that she was hiding her exhaustion, her illness, her pain with fun, easy meals like this that require minimal effort and energy.
Amane having dinner with Ryuji's family, If It's With You (Kimi to Nara Koi Wo Shite Mite Mo), Ep. 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
gif by @jimmysea
I will never not love characters who are deeply deeply sad and hide the pain they've suffered and the melancholy they carry with them behind kindness and smiles and light. Amane brightens up every room he walks in to...well, every room that has anyone else but Ryuji in it. Ryuji is incredibly incredibly good at seeing straight through to Amane's core and calling him out on trying to hide himself and his feelings away. But here, in Ryuji's home Amane is well and truly feeling happy. He is understanding what family can look like, what family can feel like. Something he has never known because his parents worked so much he always ate alone. Amane deserves to experience these things, and I am so glad that he was able to have this moment because if and when Ryuji gets comfortable with dating Amane and brings him home again, it's good to know that Ryuji's family is kind and that they already know him, love him, and are comfortable enough to tease him immediately so Amane won't have to worry about their reaction.
Charn eating with Tinn's family, Laws of Attraction, Ep. 5
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fucking!!!!!!! GAHHH!! As much as we have all obsessed over the chemistry between Jam and Film, how hot Maya and Rose are, how unhinged Charn are Nawin are, how fucking awesome the grandmother is, we really do not talk enough about the fact that Laws of Attraction is first and foremost a tragedy. In the short time we had with her we knew Tonkhao was happy, and funny, and loved and she was just trying to help ease the burden her uncle had by going shopping for him and died as a result. That's Tinn's baby girl, he's raised her since infancy, and he lost her in such a horrific way. I reblogged something about grief the other day that talked about how grief in fiction and grief in reality are so different because grief in reality is so mundane, your world may be turning on it's axis but you still have to go grocery shopping. Stories like this one do more to bridge that gap, Tonkhao is dead, but you still have to find a lawyer, Tonkhao is dead but you still have to run your restaurant, Tonkhao is dead...Tonkhao is dead. And her memory and the love her family had for her is being tarnished in the news, this familly's grief is on full display, is questioned, is attacked. And I really loved this moment and the conversation that Charn has with Tinn immediately afterwards where Tinn talks about Tonkhao and how he wants her to be remembered, and I love this so deeply for what it shows about grief. That you can't just turn it on and off, here they are: grandma, Tinn, and Charn in a good mood, chatting away and then all of a sudden watching Charn eat and enjoy the soup just triggers a memory of Tonkhao that brings a ton of pain bubbling to the surface out of nowhere. Tonkhao haunts the narrative, even after justice has been served, she is still there with them, her little doll sitting in a chair at Tinn and Charn's wedding.
Jim shares a beer with Li Ming, Moonlight Chicken, Ep. 7
Tumblr media
There is something about the death of a community pillar rocks the community at large, and how the tragedy and grief of losing someone that important to so many people can finally spur people in to action. Jim has been watching Li Ming grow up before his very eyes, but he's like many other parent/guardians and has spent so much of the show having difficulty coming to terms with the fact that Li Ming is growing up. Jim spends so much of his time stressing out about Li Ming, his financial situation changed dramatically probably right around the time he took Li Ming in, Jim is worried about how much Li Ming has struggled and may continue to struggle and is having a hard time not blaming himself for that. And finally we get the release of the all the stress and tension with Jim acknowledging Li Ming is stepping in to adulthood. I love everything about this scene, I love the acknowledgement, I love the apology, I love Jim teasing Li Ming about Heart, and I especially love the conversation about Jam because I think it shows Jim that Li Ming is capable of complex, nuanced, adult thoughts and feelings. He helped with the funeral, he stood up in support of Heart, he talked back against injustice, Li Ming spent so much of this show coming in to his own, and this is the moment all that work, misery, stress, anger bears fruit for the single most important relationship in Li Ming's life.

It's always the little things that get to me. Like Yutaka trying to downplay his abilities and Minoru not letting him... or the immediate followup of Yutaka reaching out to comfort Minoru.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then Yutaka is an absolute baby and he knows what's important and that's enjoying food, not eating the best food or the perfect food... it's about being able to enjoy and love what you eat and who you eat with. @absolutebl This show is the single most healing show ever.
Tumblr media
And then they drop the honorific and talk about it and Yutaka is the most painfully adorable and lonely man ever. The eighteen levels of awkward just trying to say his name without the honorific? So casually? My entire heart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am healed in every way. There is nothing more healing than this show. I am completely undone. Just look at them and their tiny family and what they're finding in each other.

This Week in BL - When good chemistry goes bad
May 2023 Wk 3
Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying most.
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
La Pluie (Sat iQIYI) ep 4 of 10 - yes it jumped to the top of the standings, the kiss was THAT good, best of the year so far. So soft and yet so sweet and yearning and with a proper chemistry - body, breath, everything. Also... there was plot happening this ep, but who cares about that? Some additional thoughts, now my brain has rebooted from that kiss. I do suspect Pat of still being a player: he is awful smooth, and he may want revenge for being jacked along for 2 years (I would). Ep 4 is early for a kiss like that, which means pacing-wise we may be in for a separation/break up around ep 8.
Step By Step (Thai Tues WeTV & Gaga) ep 5 of 10 (MDL still says 12, but Gaga still says 10) - Pat, dear, your gay is squirting all over our screens. Meanwhile… That is the smallest presidential suite bed I’ve ever seen. Lucky for us of course. And lucky for Jeng. Me with the side dishes = UH OH.
Our Skyy 2 (My School President) eps 9-10 - Alt reality where Tinn is in charge of the music club and Gun is the school president with the crush. Basically, it’s an excuse for them to play each others’ parts (which just highlighted how well they were cast, originally). Ultimately, Gemini is a better piner, and Fourth is a better tsundere. Although the reversed “holding it over his head” was v funny & Fourth IS a decent seme. (I also realized what I like so much about Fourth, like Saint he’s one of those rare full body actors.) Sound was a great uke and I loved how they changed his makeup for the role (did you notice?). TiwPor were as adorably ridiculous as ever. I liked the minor baby pairing for Aun, too. Still my NO SIGNING holds (although there was lots of dancing to counterbalance). In the end, all this really did was make me wanna rewatch the original. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. FYI The MV was a parody of HCTM, BB, 1k*. 8/10
A Boss and a Babe (Fri YouTube) ep 12fin - It was a cute sappy ending for a cute-ish sappy-ish show. I cannot abide that the mom who condoned the rape of her daughter got forgiven. No. Stop it GMMTV. Review below.
The Promise (Thai Weds YT & WeTV) ep 9 of 10 - I'm in trouble when I'm rooting for everybody BUT the main couple. I guess Nan doesn’t have a NO SINGING policy. Also I guess Nan was waiting for Phu all along? This show. ALSO could we not have just ended it here?
Past-senger (Thai Weds Gaga) ep 11 of 12 eps - I don’t understand. What? Where did all these new characters come from? Do we care about the hets? Not even slightly. What is anyone doing? What’s going on? do I care abotu anyone anymore? No. Please make it stop.
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Our Dining Table AKA Bokura no Shokutaku (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 7 of 10 - OMG so adorable, so repressed, so reserved, so soft, so awkward, so special. Heart melting. Also. Hungry. The WAY Minoru looks at Yutaka when he’s eating (now that he knows the history). The way we got to see the exact moment that Minoru realizes he is in love. Perfection.
Star Struck (Korea iQIYI & Gaga) ep 1-2 of 8 - Zuho (Kpop SF9 - noted good egg) opposite rookie actor Kim In Sung (the one with the crush). icky is being weird about it but it looks like Gaga also picked it up? Depends on your territory I suppose. Anygay: Friends since childhood, jock/nerd, puppy/cat and I sense bi-himbo confusion and pining introvert gay. There’s family strife plus class issues and it has some interesting things to say already about the nature of friendship, romance, and jealousy. I like it, weirdly reminds me of something that might have come out of China. Not early CBL, but some of the later stuff that was censored but hearkened to Addicted. This has the feel of what China could have made now (were things politically different). Because of this feel, I’m not confident in this being an HEA or even a true BL but it is interesting enough for me to bump it way up the ranks.
Happy Merry Ending (Korea Thurs Gaga) eps 7-8fin - I get why SJ pushed JH away, but I kinda agree that SJ is too much work. Abused or not, I wouldn’t put in the damn effort - so I guess I’m glad SJ took a year off to figure his shizz out? Far be it from me to agree with a year break in a Kdrama, tho. I didn’t even mind that they were separated most of these 2 eps: it was nice to see a Seme told no, who actually backed off and did as he was told. Plus the running of the gays (how Japan of you SK). I’m assuming that this was the final episode and that Viki thinking that there are 2 more is bonkers? Because this felt like a finale. For me this one had a stronger finish than any other aspect of the show (odd when the couple spent the bulk of it apart). Oh! And someone give Shin Myung Sung (the surfer bestie) his own damn BL, m’kay? Review below.
Love Mate (Korea Thurs Viki) eps 5-6 of 8 - Longest elevator ride in the world. Honorifics discussion! My favorite! And, “there is only one bed but they slept together on the floor anyway” trope. A BL staple. Also the tie/lanyard grab. Another fav. Still pushy puppy stalker remains creepy manipulative obsessive warped hotness. Basically KBL version of trash and… I’m into it. We all got our kinks, I guess.
Vian the series (Vietnam YouTube ) - Such a cat. I’m reminded of Milk. It’s cute. They cute. I like it.
Naked Dinner AKA Zenra Meshi (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 6 of 12 - So is the nude dining meant to be some kind of weird allegory for repressed gayness?
Tumblr media
It’s Airing But ...
My Story (Pinoy Sat YouTube) 10 eps - I bounced at ep 4. Someone will tell me if I should bother with the rest.
House of Stars (Thai Mon iQIYI) 12 eps - I bounced at ep 3. Will binge if told it is worth it at end.
The Day I Loved You (Pinoy YouTube) eps 6-7 of 10 - Terminal illness for the sunshine. I bounced at ep 6. DNF.
Tumblr media
Ended this week
Love Syndrome finished its run on WeTV (I stopped at ep 2) - anyone wanna weight in with thoughts on the ending and whether I should binge or not? I do love Lee Long Shi.
Happy Merry Ending - Stars Lee Dong Won (KNK) as an ex-idol turned wedding singer with an abusive ex and a panic disorder + the sunshine pianist who falls in love with him. Timid tsundere & sweetheart gay is an interesting match. They’re gentle together, almost kindly and there is a calm ache to their pairing. However, it lost its way as a BL, being more about the main character’s struggle than the romance. It had a strong finish but ultimately the premise & characters meant this was never going to be one of my favorites. 8/10
A Boss and a Babe - With an inconsistent narrative and self-sabotaging characters this was not the Thai BL office romance I was hoping for. I spent most if it feeling manipulated without good reason and sorry for ForceBook. They did their best with a shoddy script (AGAIN!) and none of its flaws were their fault. This show was all over the place and so am I about it. It’s better than Enchanté but that’s not really saying much. 7/10 I guess
Tumblr media
In Case You Missed It
BL Express reported that Taiwanese production companies have announced 7 new BLs (4 of these from Vidol.) Stories range from office romance to crime drama.
Someone did a survey on KBL watchers.
Build Jakapan has been cleared of all charges.
Next Week Looks Like This:
Tumblr media
Starting this week:
5/26 Be My Favorite prev title: You Are My Favorite (Thai YouTube) Adapted JittiRain y-novel (2gether, FUTS, ToL, Vice Versa) one of those “rewrite the past to change the future.” Stars Krist (SOTUS) + Fluke Gawin (DBK, Not Me). Expect this to be v low heat, full of LIES and manipulation.
5/27 The Luminous Solution (Thai ????) 10 eps - Thana is having trouble at work and in his relationship. He can't seem to catch a break. So he makes a wish to change everything. The wish has a price.
5/27 Takumi-kun Series 6: Nagai Nagai Monogatari no Hajimari no Asa (Japan) - NO ONE ASKED FOR THIS (but that has never stopped Japan before) and no, I have no idea where to get it, why would I ?????  (Say it with me everyone: Oh Japan, must you?*)

Comparing the Adventure Kids with the Survive Kids (Part 1)
(Aka, yet another shmuck making comparisons to Adventure because I’m unoriginal)
Everyone pretty much knows what the parallels are by now, so I’m making this post just to jot down similarities and differences that I find interesting between them. This isn’t to say these characters are all the same or that the Survive cast are supposed to be seen as reflections or copies of the Adventure cast -- this is just for fun :)
I’ve read some beautiful and in-depth analyses of Aoi, Shuuji, Saki, and their Adventure counterparts, as well as how Ryo might factor into the group. I don’t think I can do it any better, so their sections will mostly just consist of regurgitating info that’s already been written by people who already did all the work. Please read those posts by @shihalyfie and @digisurvive (as well as their other posts) if you haven’t already! They’re linked above!!
Before we start, let’s talk about the main contrast overarching all the characters:
Adventure kids were chosen for their heroism to save the world Vs. Survive kids are normal kids chosen to be sacrifices
Before we go into the character pairs themselves, I wanted to talk about this contrast first bc I love it
I LOVEEE seeing all the posts that theorize which Survive kid would have which crest, but I also notice that, with the exception of maybe 1-2 characters, not everyone agrees on who should get each crest
I’m sure the Adventure kids also have moments that embody the crests other than their own (can’t remember any off the top off my head), but I actually like this ambiguity(?) because it shows the difference between why/how the Adventure kids were chosen vs. why/how the Survive kids were chosen
Basically, the Adventure kids were chosen specifically because they had traits that would help them cooperate and fight for good (to save the world even!)
You can see this through their general selflessness and bravery even from Episode 1!
Despite being stranded in a strange world, and then attacked and backed against a cliff by a giant beetle monster, ALL of them are against their new diggle babies risking their lives to protect them and even try to hold them back
Takuma had a similar moment when he first meets Koromon, but none of the other Survive kids do
And that’s because the Survive kids are just normal kids; they're not meant to be heroes, they weren’t “chosen” for a grand purpose -- they were chosen randomly to be sacrificed by a crazy godlike being out of anger and hatred
Because of this, the characters can end up losing their sanity and becoming the worst they can be, or they can somehow fight through all that and come out as incredible people
Love that :)
Check out all the other character pairings here:
Aoi and Sora (Team Mom)
Minoru and Koushiro (The Lancer)
Saki and Mimi (The “Chick”/The Heart)
Shuuji and Jou (Team Dad)
Ryo and No one (Sixth Ranger)
Kaito and Yamato (The Rival)
Miu and Takeru (The Baby of the Bunch)
Takuma and Taichi (The Leader)
One of the first things that stood out to me when trying to find The Trope for each of the pairs is how most of them don’t really embody the trope I chose that much. Some of them might not even embody them at all (such as Kaito not being a “rival” in the traditional sense, if any; or Shuuji not being much of a “team dad,” at least not at first) and some might not really be the first trope people think of when they see that character (Koushiro as “the smart guy” vs. “the lancer”).
But I think Takuma and Taichi both embody “The Leader” pretty well, albeit in very different ways. Shihalyfie talks about it best regarding Taichi here and here. Here are some of the similarities and differences I found interesting:
Both are decisive/make good decisions under stress
As the designated “gogglehead protagonist” this is pretty much a given lol
Taichi has always been good at leading the group forward and making (mostly) good decisions while the rest of the group might be too scared, tired, or shocked about their current circumstances to think about moving on
By contrast, Takuma is good at remaining calm under pressure (biggest example is when the school is targeted by Dokugumon, and everyone’s freaking out except for him)
This is especially notable given how early on in the game it is
But his decision-making mainly lies in hearing out what the group believes (as the Survive kids are noticeably more assertive and decisive about how to handle their situation than the Adventure kids) and choosing to best among those options
Basically, Taichi tends to make decisions on his own accord, whereas Takuma (at least at first) usually waits until he’s called upon/becomes the deciding voice before he chooses
That probably has more to do with the group dynamic (Adventure kids were more passive/cooperative vs. Survive kids were more decisive and emotional)
Both help keep the group together
One of the most important aspects of being a leader is being able to keep the group together
It’s part of why Shuuji kept failing; he often disagreed with the group’s majority decisions, and his hostile behavior would push them away
Taichi keeps the group together in a literal sense -- look how quickly they fall apart when he goes back to the real world
The only exception to this is Yamato in the Pinocchimon arc, but that’s mainly because of Yamato’s own issues that he’s been dealing with from the start
By contrast, Takuma is very aware of everyone’s emotional states and keeps the group cooperative and on the same page, but the group doesn’t automatically separate after he’s gone
It’s mostly because they can’t go anywhere because of the fog, but I still feel like they would’ve stayed together if given the choice
I think another interesting contrast is that Taichi considers everyone’s skills and knows how to delegate tasks, whereas Takuma considers everyone’s thoughts and hears out every opinion before making a decision himself
Both have Agumon as their partner
This is kind of hard to explore deeply (at least for me), because the main reason behind Takuma getting Agumon was because Agumon was the most popular choice
More specifically, Habu says that he was the digimon “a wide range of fans will easily accept”
You could say Takuma was meant to be similar -- he’s the type of person who can get along with a wide range of people, both accepting and being accepted by them
Taichi’s Agumon is similarly hard to talk about because he doesn’t really have much of a personality on his own outside of Taichi (but maybe I’m just not getting the cues)
I’ve found a couple of posts about Taichi and Agumon’s partnership here and here, but they don’t say much about Agumon himself other than the fact that he’s often on the same wavelength as Taichi
The best I can glean from this is that Agumon is just a very straightforward digimon; simple, genuine, and not having to be read too deeply to be understood
I suppose you could say it’s the same for Takuma and Taichi, both of whom are fairly straightforward people who don’t really hide how they’re actually feeling
Both are introspective and will reflect when they’ve done something wrong
Takuma’s introspection is very clear (he considers multiple different options before responding to people or making a choice; he’s slow to action early in the game because he’s thinking so much; if someone disagrees with him, he considers their perspective and wonders if he's in the wrong)
Taichi’s is not as prominent in comparison, but he thinks and considers a lot throughout the series
The most notable (to me) is how after every major argument with Yamato, he’ll stop and question whether he’s the one being wrong or if he really is being insensitive vs. practical
When he’s out of his element, he’ll also acquiesce to anyone who knows more (usually Koushiro)
Taichi’s introspection actually surprised me when I watched Adventure for the first time in Japanese (I watched the dub as a kid, but barely remember anything about it)
Taichi tries to power forward on his own without consulting other options Vs. Takuma will hear everyone out and tries to respect everyone’s feelings before deciding
Taichi’s insistence to keep moving has to do with his abundant energy (aka his physical ability to keep going for a long time) as well as a practical need to do what they need to before the enemies can win
Although he can be impulsive and brash, his main focus when barreling forward is practicality -- if they don’t hurry, the enemies might win and they’ll destroy the world
If people are feeling hurt or sad in the process, that’s unfortunate, but the enemies won’t stop just to let them grieve, so they have to keep going
By contrast, Takuma, as stated multiple times above, always respects and considers other people’s emotions (well… unless you choose the dialogue options that don’t)
Takuma himself is a sensitive and emotional person, so he’s also shared the group’s emotional states when things got especially bad (ex. Ryo’s death), but he’s pushing himself because the group needs him
Even when he advises the kids to put their feelings on the back burner, it’s always with empathy, rather than just sheer practicality
Aoi and Sora will be next!

Some fun stuff happened for this week. The community did its best to rally around poor Nick Jackson. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to get him over the 50% smash mark. However, he received the sixth most votes out of all the polls so far. He just also received the second most pass votes out of all the polls (second only to Vince McMahon back in week 2). Meanwhile, Matt received the ninth most total votes, but he came in at 59.2% smash.
The apple fell pretty far from the tree for nepo baby Charlie Dempsey. For those who aren't aware, he's William Regal's son. William Regal's vote was 65.6% smash, while Charlie Dempsey's result was 22.1% smash. Maybe he'll grow up and get more smashable over time. These polls do seem to trend toward Sexualizing That Old Man. Someday I'm gonna use this data to make some charts, and one of them is gonna be wrestler age vs smash rating.
And now for some of my favorite tags and comments
@angelkitty32001 on Mox: #i would run through walls for twink era mox
@beefyandbloody on Matt Jackson: #he's got nice hair and tits and puppy eyes i am smashing Gently because he looks like a sensitive young man
@scissormedaddyass on Matt Jackson: #judging by his lack of reciprocity in pokemon go i KNOW it would be extremely unsatisfying#but i need to pull this man’s hair so badly
@schmidtho on Matt Jackson: #my instinct is smash but if HES a brat and IM a brat then who’s taming this this????
@daphne-minor on Nick Jackson: I bet all y’all pass people regret your vote now that Nick looks like an Italian porn gangster who sells counterfeit LSD at playgrounds
@cheapheat on Marko Stunt: #not very attractive to me unfortunately also the youth pastor thing seals it#I hope they canonize killswitch eating him though
@pavlovean on Jey Uso: #i love jey uso with all of my heart#but less like an object of romantic or sexual affection and more like a pathetic sopping wet kitten i found on the streets#nevertheless i would smash if given the chance
Honorable mention to EVERYONE who reblogged Nick Jackson and did their best to rally others to their cause.

Okay, okay, omg. My wee brain is at max at the moment. I’m on a work trip at the moment, so this will be shorter than usual, but also, I’m far too overwhelmed with the discovery about the Bad Buddy x ATOTS crossover that will take place over two weeks starting next week, so like -- my itty heart is like, whoa whoa!
AND THEN THERE’S OUR DINING TABLE, that comes in like the cutest machete in the world, being awl like, yeah gurl, we are going to just take you down once and for all, all while you’re all already emotional and shit. GREAT!
No, actually, no complaints. I’m insanely excited for Pran and Pat to come back, and deeply thrilled that Our Dining Table continues to best out the current competition. Best episode yet. Our Dining Table, episode 8, thoughts:
Again, continuing to be such an empathetic show to dear Yutaka, who really needed this entire episode to process everything that was happening to him. I loved that last line of the episode: “How am I going to deal with these things?” IT WAS SO HONEST TO HIS PROCESS FOR THIS ENTIRE EPISODE.
I really liked how Minoru DIDN’T panic at Yutaka’s needing time and quiet to understand what was happening.
Besides the use of silence, which continues to be so important to this show -- all of the solo scenes with Yutaka, in his house, in his office -- something that actually moved me was the bright music of the scene where Ueda-san, Minoru, and Tane are outside, throwing the ball. Around Tane, guess what? The adults have to continue adulting and living.
I have to say. As a parent. That’s really hard. If I were Minoru, I would want to curl up in my bed and stay there for days.
With a little kid around, you can’t. (Quick tangent: little baby Tane’s flip-out in the park, when he was laying down, wanting to be picked up? And the ladies were saying, “poor boy?” Come AWN. That was NOTHING. If Japan thinks that was a big freak-out by a toddler, COME TO MY HOUSE AND MEET MY KIDS, sheesh.)
Anyway, ha. With a little kid -- you cannot retreat. I love that when Minoru came back home the second time in the episode, the first thing he asked his dad was -- where’s Tane? That’s parental thinking. The kid comes first.
So I really want to emphasize here, and Ueda-san knows this, too -- Minoru has spent his last few years putting other people first. I think that’s what’s happening between him and Yutaka, too. He kissed Yutaka, for sure, but retreated -- and allowed Yutaka to then set the pace. With Yutaka needing the time to process, Minoru withdrew fully, apologized, and is processing on his own.
He’s in pain, but Minoru is also empathetic to Yutaka’s position, because Minoru has gotten to understand people, at a far younger age than your usual adult, because of the parenting he’s done with Tane. It’s all full circle and SO BEAUTIFUL to me.
@respectthepetty‘s tribute to Ueda-san is so perfect in this moment. Ueda-san is just THERE, and loving, and is a keen parent to know that BOTH his sons need his parenting in this moment.
And. We got to see another angle of the kiss. @troubled-mind -- did you know that it was a side kiss from the manga? I had no idea!
I wish I had more time to deeply analyze this episode, but so be it for this week. That we get this show WITH the BBS and ATOTS reunions -- we are IN THE MOMENT IN BL, FRIENDS, IN. THE. MOMENT.

I saw your baby Asahi art with his papa! What would he look like grown up?
I don’t often get anons on here but when I do they always leave me 🤯
At first I thought it would be no big deal to draw up a grown Asahi.
But then I thought… why stop there??
These are SessKag babies from my fic Unexpected.
Tumblr media
Minoru, the first born. The quintessential Hanyo. Looks just like his uncle, but with Sesshomaru’s face. As the eldest, he wants to be just like his father, but he’s a lot more like Kagome. More naturally inclined to the bow, but he practices hard with his sword.
Tumblr media
The Twins, Himari and Sota. Himari was born with the appearance of a full yokai. She’s bubbly, happy, and silly, but with Kagome’s temper. She won’t hesitate to maim anyone who intends to harm her family. Sota was born with the appearance of being completely human. He was named for Kagome’s brother, but most resembles her father. He is the most like Sesshomaru in personality. Despite how they look, they are both Hanyo.
Tumblr media
The Elf Child, Akemi. Sweet and even tempered, she looks most like Sesshomaru’s mother. She is the only child with Kagome’s eyes. She and Asahi are best friends. She has an affinity for gardening, especially caring for rare, hard to grow plants.
Tumblr media
Asahi, the baby. His appearance came as a shock, as he’s the least “human” looking of all his siblings. He wears glasses because his eyes are very “doggish” and he needs help correcting his vision. He cannot speak with words outside of his human night as he has a canine about and vocal cords, but he can communicate in inuyokai just fine, a language his whole family speaks. Kagome read to him often as a child to ensure he understood the human language, so he enjoys scholarly pursuits, reading, writing, and he has the best penmanship of all his siblings.
All of the siblings are very close and enjoy spending time together and with their parents

This isn't a request, but what inspired your Ocs into existence? Mine was that I wanted more people in Rocky's corner! So, I gave him a mom friend named Sadie Churchill or also known as Lucille Grace. She's known as the sweet motherly and unsuspected cleaning lady at the little Daisy Cafe/Lackadaisy, the unknown Siren Killer to the law and the crazy witch from a coven, killing all the people that were involved in the murder of her husband and baby to her victims. Along side an angry spirit known as a Wraith with a common enemy as her. Then, there's also the significant other to Rocky! Clarity Sable, Sedgewick's niece. Who is also a part of the same coven as Sadie. No, Sedgewick doesn't know about this. All he knows is that his niece was sent to live with him at 13 for reasons and she's 20 now.
That's so cool! I'll be explaining below. It's very long, whoops.
For me, it was mostly for fun? And then I got really into it. The girlfriends I mentioned before, Lavinia and Yvette, are just my oc's as Lackadaisy characters. And then I kind of just had this thought of 'Rocky doesn't have any parental figures...Might as well make Lavinia and Yvette his parents lmao'. I thought it was funny.
The twin's were really just an excuse to have more doctor characters. I have names for them now! They are of Japanese origin, Rin and Minoru, and because they moved to the U.S. at a young age they had to change them. Wren, was close enough to Rin, and Moreno, close enough to Minoru. They also had this little sister on her way, their mother was 3 months pregnant with her at the time. Originally before they moved her name was going to be Emiko, it then changed to Emily shortly after.
Wren was in training to become a nurse back in WW2 and when she came back home she was rather...prickly. She died due to being involved with a deal gone wrong with a gang and Moreno was left to take her place, quite literally. Since then Moreno had to study extensively about medical practices to really impersonate her. Grief was what motivated him. Atlas May found him and later employed him.
Then comes around my fifth character. He's Russian and for now I dubbed him Arsen. Listen I needed a placeholder name and he was originally just going to be a buff lady. It was Arseni until I dropped the i. Not much going on with him except he was basically disowned by his family shortly after an incident. He has this really large scar that runs up and down his spine widening at the center of his back. Like the shape of a diamond. He does have a last name unlike the others though! Baladin. I was going to push him to be Rocky's love interest because I thought it would funny if Rocky fell for someone tall and intimidating lmaooo
I think I'm going for it anyway because I still think it would be funny.

(Possible spoilers!!) Have you ever thought about how maybe one of the reasons why Kaito gets so upset whenever someone claims to "know" what Miu wants/likes is because that's probably what her stalker did? Claim to know her better than herself/her family?
I think about these siblings and their past a lot lol. I'm so curious how their personalities and their relationship must've been like before the incident. Hope you have a good day!
Yes! It seemed like that guy made a lot of claims about what Miu wanted and how she felt that weren't true but that their parents believed anyway. Seeing as Kaito is generally the one who's more hung up on what happened back then (namely that he didn't notice sooner and stop it), it makes sense that that would be why he overreacts to anything that even slightly reminds him of it. If the last time someone tried to tell him they know what she wants, they were trying to manipulate him into letting them hurt her, he wouldn't exactly be keen on letting anyone else get away with it, even if their intentions are innocent.
On that note, hot take but I think that whole situation is also the reason he gets Weird™️about Takuma asking about what he loves about Miu. Cuz understandably I feel like most people's initial reaction to him saying he's not into his sister seemingly unprovoked is "hey what the fuck?" But like,,,in the context of everything they've been through, I can see how being asked if there's some reason he cares about her so much would read like an accusation to him. Like he was being compared to that guy. I mean, it kinda was a weird question to begin with--why would he need a reason to care about his sister?
Slightly unrelated tangent but I personally always found it weird that the other characters acted like it was weird that he worried about her so much. Like bro that's his baby sister. She's 2 apples tall. Even without the tragic backstory any half-decent brother would be worried alkkfdjak.
Anyways on the note of what they were like in the Before Times, just the other day I was telling one of my friends about how much I love MarineAngemon as a partner for Miu. Bc thinking about how...oh hell I haven't played this game in a MINUTE, I think it was the fake Syakomon(?) that accused her of pretending to like things she hates and hate things she likes + how she loved how cute the amusement park mons were + the way Kaito talks about her I feel like he's not actually being totally delulu about how cute she is. I feel like she probably did act a lot more cutesy but stopped because of Certain Life Events. So having her mega be something very small and very cute but still very strong is Neat, I think. Like she got a piece of her real self back and isn't so afraid of it anymore.
I'm also pretty positive that Kaito's always been a doting loser alfdkja. Like,,,his response to Minoru being worried about him letting Miu boss him around was just "hey how long do you think I've been doing this big brother thing for" lmao. Literally 0 backbone on that boy. As long as it isn't dangerous, Miu gets whatever Miu wants ToT And Miu saying he used to always pat her head wtf why are they so cute.
ALSO I NOTICED THEY BOTH REFER TO TAKING DOWN THE MASTER AS GOING AFTER THE "FINAL BOSS" SO YOU CANNOT TELL ME THEY DIDN'T PLAY A LOT OF VIDEO GAMES TOGETHER. NERDS WHO BOTH USE VIDEO GAME TERMINOLOGY IRL I LOVE THEM.
Anyways thanks for giving me an excuse to talk about Miu and Kaito again, I miss them dearly every day of my life and think about them constantly.

10 BL Boys I Want Carnally
I was tagged by @twig-tea, but I do what I want so I'm ignoring the Boys thing (and on at least one occasion the BL thing). Anyway, without further ado, and in no particular order.
Win!Lin- Cupid's Last Wish
LOOPHOLE FIRST!
Tumblr media
gif by @angelbesideme
Thanks to Cupid's Last Wish, Jan is a boy here! So I am choosing Win from Cupid's Last Wish before he body swaps back. HOWEVER, if I'm honest, it was less Win and more masc!Jan that made my brain short circuit so do with that what you will.
Toon- Seneha Stories
Tumblr media
I am breaking from the prompt immediately, but this is my post and I can do what I want, so I am choosing Toon from Seneha Stories, which @so-much-yet-to-learn brought my attention to. Seneha Stories is definitively not a BL, but Toon is hot, kind, sad, and he fucks so I'd be living my best life.
Miw, Neo, Shin, and Mae - 3 Will Be Free
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS IS NOT ME SUGGESTING A FOURSOME, THIS IS JUST ME TRYING TO PREVENT FOUR OF THE TEN SPACES FROM BEING 3 WILL BE FREE.
I like it when my fictional women not only are capable of murder, but have, in fact, murdered. Miw and Mae are hot, competent, killers, fucking over evil billionaires so what is not to love?
I am not immune to Neo and his slutty little crop tops. He has three brain cells and they are all that is keeping him from not dying. Iconic to be honest.
I am not immune to Shin and his glasses, and his kindness. I mean, the boy got cut with a knife and not only comforted the kid that wounded him when he started freaking out but dated him.
Mollie - The Warp Effect
Tumblr media
gif by @patpran
MY FIRST NON-BINARY REP IN THAILAND, MY BELOVED. Mollie is so fucking hot, they are talented, they have sick tattoos, they are fighting for themselves, and are changing the landscape of media, what is not to love?
You could also almost certianly put in any of Silvy's characters and I would probably want them carnally, cause...it's Silvy.
(honestly, I'd go for Nim too, but again, not for her character's personality, it's the masc!Jan effect)
Kim- KinnPorsche
Tumblr media
gif by @namchyoon
For this scene and this scene only. Honestly, I think if nothing else this shows you that my type is people who could actually maybe kill me in a fight.
Or at the very least, people I could get in to a homoerotic fight with.
Anyway, Jeff gives me gender envy and the first time I saw this gifset, I thought he was a butch lesbian.
Speaking of homoerotic fights
Phaya and Sand - The Sign
Tumblr media
MENACE! A MENACE I TELL YOU! I truly well and deeply have an appreciation for when someone who (I assume) typically would top absolutely just vibrates out of their skin at the first sign they might be topped.
And I'm adding Sand here as well because I think my jaw dropped like ten feet when I saw her on screen.
Tumblr media
Sand, baby girl, let me know if Yai doesn't treat you right, cause I will.
King- Bed Friend
Tumblr media
gif by @earthfluuke
Shout out to this man, I've seen him on at least three of these lists. But who could blame us? Look at him.
Choy Yu Na- Semantic Error
Tumblr media
She did that bisexual sit and my heart was hers.
And for my last two picks, I certainly am asking myself the question, do I want them carnally or do I just want them?
Mork -My Ride
Tumblr media
Helloooooooo Mr. Dimples. I mean....I feel like I don't need to explain myself here. We all get it, right? We understand, right? And besides, he gives rides for a living or something...
Minoru- Our Dining Table
Tumblr media
HE'S JUST SO NICE, SO KIND, SO TIRED. @isaksbestpillow is so right, he is a mother. I love him.
Tagging @so-much-yet-to-learn, @solitaryandwandering, @respectthepetty and anyone else who sees this and wants to join!

Survived
Word Count: 1,564 Prompt: Post-Game/Future Featured Characters: Takuma Momozuka, as well as Minoru Hinata, Aoi Shibuya, Kaito Shinonome, Miu Shinonome, Shuuji Kayama, Professor, Ryo Tominaga, & Saki Kimishima A/N: This was always going to be my longest drabble, because I have a soft spot for post-canon things where one character spends some time with all of the others in separate situations. I haven't played through the truthful ending yet, so I frankly have probably made some things up here. And ended it real sappy. Because that's my favorite thing to do. In any case, I really enjoyed writing this and my other drabbles this week, and thank you to everyone who read, liked, and wrote some really kind tags! It means a whole heckuva lot! <3 @surviveweek
"Hey, Takuma!"
Takuma looked up from his phone and smiled at the sight of Minoru and Aoi approaching his table. "Hey, Minoru, Aoi. How are you both?"
"Good, good. Falcomon is practically part of the family now," Minoru said, grinning as he sat across from Takuma. Aoi sat beside him, gently balancing the drink in her hand with the muffin in the other. "It's like having a pet, except he can talk back!"
"Mom and Dad love Labramon, she's so helpful," Aoi chimed in, a truly happy look on her face. "She insists on walking me to school every day even though I can go myself."
"Sounds like Labramon," Takuma said. Even though he hadn't seen them in a while, he could vividly imagine Falcomon and Labramon settling in with their partners. It had taken his own mother a bit to get used to Agumon, but the little dinosaur was so sweet and adorable it was hard not to love him. "Have either of you talked to the others?"
"Saki's doing much better now." Aoi took out her phone and showed Takuma and Minoru a picture of Saki smiling in a hospital bed with Floramon right beside her. "She missed a little bit of school, but I take the train to her house every now and then to help her with her schoolwork."
"Ryo doesn't text back much, but it seems like he's doing great. I think?" Minoru chuckled. "I think he just doesn't want to admit he misses us."
"Don't tease him, Minoru," Aoi scolded.
"I hope we can all meet up again soon. It's kind of weird, being all separated like this." Takuma stared down at the drink clutched in his hand. "I know it was only a few hours here, but it felt like weeks there. It was hard adjusting without everyone."
Minoru nodded. "I know what you mean." He got a wistful look on his face. "There's something about sticking together and surviving all that, you know?"
"We'll see each other again." Aoi smiled widely. "There's no way we won't."
"You're right." Takuma checked the time on his phone and grinned over at his friends. "Which reminds me, I need to call Kaito tonight."
That was their cue to stand up. As they gathered their things, Aoi placed her hand on Takuma's shoulder. "Tell Kaito and Miu we said hello?"
Takuma smiled. "Of course."
~~~
"How are Miu and Syakomon?" Takuma asked as soon as Kaito answered the phone and they exchanged their usual greetings.
Kaito smirked and moved his phone camera so Takuma could see Miu playing with Syakomon. He couldn't quite tell what they were doing, but it involved lifting Syakomon in the air, almost like a baby. The sight made him smile and laugh. When Miu noticed Kaito was filming her, she stuck out her tongue, but she waved her sweatshirt sleeve and called, "Hi, Takuma!" Had Syakomon been able to wave, he was sure she would wave, too.
"So that's how she is. How about you, Takuma?" Kaito sat down at a table and propped his phone up somewhere so he could rest his elbows on the table. It was almost like they were right in front of each other rather than kilometers upon kilometers away.
Takuma shrugged and angled his camera so Kaito could see Agumon poking at some of his old toys, a fascinated look in his big, green eyes. Kaito looked just as amused by Agumon's antics as Takuma had been by Miu's. "Agumon's settling right in. I actually just saw Minoru and Aoi today—they say hello."
"Glad they're doing well. It's so weird not having any of you around here anymore. I almost tricked myself into believing you all lived nearby. You know, after all that time together."
"I get what you mean. It's hard actually spending time with the others now that we're back to our lives. Is it weird I kinda miss the other world?"
"Not really. We got used to it after a while." The grin hadn't left Kaito's face, so Takuma knew they were on the same page.
Even though they were on a video call, they enjoyed a minute of companionable silence. Takuma was finding it easier and easier, with the companions he'd hate on their unbelievable adventure, to sit in silence with them and not have to fill it with words. He doubted any of his other friends at school would understand such things. But with Kaito especially, it was easy. Maybe nearly dying together was the secret to friendship.
And, as weird as it was, Takuma preferred these sorts of friendships.
~~~
"Takuma?"
Turning around, Takuma spotted Shuuji and the Professor walking down the street toward him. "Oh! Shuuji! Professor! How are you?"
"Well, thank you." Shuuji peered down and behind him, smiling encouragingly at Lopmon as he toddled up to them. "Sorry, Lopmon. Here." The older boy crouched down and picked up Lopmon, setting the bunny-like creature on his shoulder. Had the Kemonogami been able to blush, Takuma was sure Lopmon would be. It seemed they were getting along even better now. "Anyway, Takuma—how are you? And Agumon?"
"Good, good. He's getting a hang of our world slowly but surely. Professor? How are you?"
The professor approached the two boys at a leisurely pace, looking more at ease than he had ever been with either of them. Takuma smiled up at him, and the Professor returned the smile. "I'm well, Takuma. It's been interesting, raising my sister, but, well." He chuckled. "We're making do."
"Please tell her I said hello." Takuma couldn't help but take a mental picture of the scene before him. Lopmon and Shuuji, happy. The Professor, happy now that he had his sister back in his life. It was almost too good to be true, but after the hellish reality in the Kemonogami world, it was real.
"We have to run, but it was great seeing you, Takuma!"
"You too! Please take care, both of you!" Takuma waved as they walked off, glad to see that they were doing well. He'd have to make sure to email them both later. But first, he had to get home with the groceries!
~~~
"Thanks for coming all this way, Ryo." Takuma took a sip of his soda and smiled over at his friend, who despite all evidence to the contrary, was trying to look like he wasn't
"Yeah, sure." Ryo glanced over at Saki, who was eyeing her food with a level of excitement Takuma was used to seeing from Agumon. "Someone had to keep an eye on her."
"I think you mean I'm here to keep an eye on you, Ryo," Saki retorted smoothly, not even missing a beat.
Takuma was reminded of the day they were transported to the other world, when Ryo and Saki had been walking together. Even after all they'd been through together, it was strange to see them together. Still, Takuma knew they were both in good hands when they were together. "I'm glad to see you two are doing well. Aoi told me your surgery went well, Saki?"
Saki ignored the concerned look Ryo subtly shot her and smiled. "It did! I felt much braver about going through it knowing Floramon was waiting for me. Hopefully this will be the last one for a while." Her smile wavered a tiny bit. "I really hope it is." She brightened and rested her chin on her hands, grinning over at Ryo. "And? How are you and Kunemon?"
"Okay. I have to translate for him sometimes, but it's working out pretty well." Ryo slipped his phone onto the table and turned it on, revealing a lockscreen that was of Kunemon sleeping on what appeared to be a pillow. Saki made an "aww!" sound and Takuma smiled. Like with Lopmon and Shuuji, it was nice to see Kunemon and Ryo settling into a rhythm.
"I'm glad to see you two are doing well. Hard to believe it's been a few months since it all happened, huh?" Takuma said, letting out a wistful sigh. "I've only been able to see a couple of you at a time. We'll have to spend some time all together soon."
"That sounds like fun!" Saki clapped, her eyes shining. "We should do it!"
"Been a while since I've had to yell at Minoru. Let's do it." Ryo was smirking, but Takuma could tell he was also missing the others.
Takuma sipped his soda again and nodded to his two friends. "Soon. Let's get together again soon."
~~~
As promised, they all got together in the only place that made sense: the old Kemonogami shrine. Takuma released a contented breath as he took in the sight of all his friends together again, along with their partners. Agumon stood silently at his side, a delighted, toothy grin on his face.
Takuma sat down on one of the steps leading up to the shrine, casting his eyes over all of his friends. Minoru and Falcomon joking with Aoi and Labramon… Shuuji and Lopmon with the Professor and Miyuki… Kaito and Miu with Dracmon and Syakomon laughing with them… Ryo and Kunemon talking with Saki and Floramon… A smile spread across his face. It was the reunion to end all reunions.
They had all survived. They were all okay. And they'd made friends to last a lifetime (but not in Kemonogami world time).

I'm gonna be honest, having Minoru be jealous at this point is just... it's kind of pointless. And it's not adding much to the story or his character because it's not part of his story or character.
And Yutaka's quiet confusion and insecurity makes more sense but it feels... baseless.
The whole idea just feels... off.
Yutaka makes more sense, he's always been insecure and quick to catastrophize. But where is Minoru's jealousy coming from? What happened to talking about issues the way Minoru suggested?
It's cute, they're both very sweet, but this awkwardness doesn't feel authentic to the relationship we've watched them build.
Especially because Yutaka is panicked because Minoru is acting differently and Tane mentioned what sounded like a break up letter while Minoru is upset that... Yutaka is talking to other people, laughing, and liking things?
Tumblr media
This special is hurting me. Oh, Minoru. Oh, Yutaka.
Tumblr media
But, also, I don't like the idea that Minoru would get jealous or upset at Yutaka having friends. That just doesn't feel like him. He wants to see the people around him heal and be better and he knows that Yutaka has struggled with friends and closeness and communication and to use that against him?
(I think the hardest part is that Yutaka is worried about a break up while Minoru seems to think that Yutaka might just be... going out with someone else? Rough. Rough. And then Yutaka apologizes? Oh, the baby.)
Tumblr media
At least they're adorable once they remember to start talking.
Tumblr media
But these balloons just made me happy. What a sign.

Chapter 3: When it Rains, it Pours
The gentle babbling of running water is dissonant in Ryo's ears as everyone slowly starts to regroup, making their way toward the middle of the central path, where—his breath hitches, sharp and cold against the inside of his throat—Shuuji is staring at the ground, head bowed and shoulders taut.
What happened in the waterway left its mark on everybody, and Ryo's doing his best to watch over his friends in the aftermath. Unfortunately, he doesn't have eyes in the back of his head, and neither does Shuuji.
ao3 link in the source, extended post-chapter commentary below! (:
i had a whole bunch of stupid temporary names for each section of every chapter during earlier stages of writing to help keep track of what order the segments were in. like i said on ao3, the working title for this chapter (the middle segment, specifically) was "The Gang Misplaces The Baby". Other notable ones were "be gay do crime hold egg" (ch1 pt1), "Get Punched Idiot" (ch1 pt2), and "EGG" (ch3 pt3).
ive been sitting on all my silly kunemon dialogue for WEEKS. im still not sure how i feel about it - on one hand, i kind of like it when you can only figure out what kunemon's saying through context, usually via ryo. but also i think it's really fun to explore what kunemon's voice sounds like in dialogue - if you translated all of kunemon's kews, would he speak the same way as jewelbeemon or banchoustingmon? it's hard to say, given that theres basically no time in-narrative save for the evolution event where banchoustingmon is center stage. that's part of why i think it's a shame that ultimate and mega stage evolutions are affinity-dependant rather than story-depedant. that said, i've heard that the development cycle for this game was BRUTAL, so i dont fault the devs for it. besides, it's kinda fun to try to figure out how to change ultimate and mega evo scenes so that they fit into a specific area of the story. i won't get into it now, but i have MANY thoughts on the subject.
i also have many thoughts about ryo. i know ive talked about this before, but he was the one to surprise me the most in truthful. i truly was caught off-guard at how much of ryo is hidden behind the walls he puts up at the very beginning. it's so delightful to me that this rough, foul-mouthed, prickly guy is arguably the most emotionally intelligent of the group. i bet he has no idea that his ability to read people is so impressive, and likely views his eye for detail is nothing out of the ordinary. i think these skills are both things that he started to hone at a young age, and now they're just second nature. although. i do think these skills completely go out the window when he's in distress.
also on the topic of ryo - i will die on the hill that he and saki have some kind of shared history. i dont think they go to the same school; there's a few references to saki probably being at the same one as takuma and minoru, and then at the amusement park in truthful, theres a bit of dialogue between minoru and ryo that suggests that the two of them go to different schools. so instead, i've mostly committed to the notion that they're …hmm… childhood "friends" is a strong word. probably closer to childhood "acquaintances". childhood "other kid i kept seeing over and over at the same place, and since theres no one else my age around here i dont have any other options". childhood "best available friend".
anyway, I think they were familiar with one another through their parents. it makes sense to me that one of saki's parents worked with ryo's mother or had some other kind of connection to her that faded after she died. or maybe ryo and saki ended up running into each other constantly while ryo's mother was in the hospital. in either scenario, a much younger saki and ryo would have been together frequently enough that they got to know each other pretty well as kids, then grew distant after their families' paths stopped crossing, not seeing each other again until the start of the camping trip. i think thats a decent reason for why ryo's not quite as temperamental with saki as he is with the others rightrightright at the beginning, and it would explain why he doesn't seem to mind her following him around and saying stuff like "idk what you'd do if i take my eyes off you" without him getting all that annoyed (relatively).
but yeah, this chapter was a LOT of fun for me to write. i really liked the idea of getting the immediate aftermath of the fight with wendimon from ryo's perspective. it was gonna be from shuuji's at first, but i think he would have been too caught up in shock and grief to be paying much attention to any of the others. ryo, on the other hand, is extremely observant and perceptive even though he's also pretty upset.
i had a great time writing shuuji listening in on kunemon and ryo's conversation. obviously i loved the duality of shuuji having no idea what kunemon is talking about while we the reader know that ryo gets whiplash between trying to cheer up a gloomy kunemon, exchanging stuff they've noticed about their friends, then being personally attacked about his feelings concerning a specific person (whose identity i hope was at least somewhat discernible without kunemon goggles). shuuji can understand the words ryo is saying just fine, but the information he learns catches him off-guard, and it occurs to him just how much distance there is between him and most of the group. this gave me a fun opportunity to think about what it's like to be shuuji at this specific part of the story - he's just had this horrible brush with death, and even though he's doing much better than he was before, he's at a point where he hasn't grown close with most of the others yet. we don't see much of shuuji having to build or rebuild his relationships with his peers immediately following the waterway - iirc the bulk of what we get is after those 10 days takuma was gone, and by then, the way he interacts with the others is much, much different.
i also really enjoyed getting a bit silly about the game mechanics in the last segment. finding random shit like plates of ribs and weird bananas isn't really addressed much beyond acknowledging that it was found. i think theres been SOME commentary about how the thing is weird, but to my knowledge, WHERE those weird things were found isn't acknowledged. nobody ever sits back like "hey so why the fuck did i find a pineapple inside of the piano" and i thought i could play with that a little!!
all right, thats gonna do it for this week. as you may have noticed, my ability to accurately gauge when i can post chapters is… hmm… questionable at best. i currently plan on posting chapter 4 on monday, but theres a small local con this weekend so i can't say for certain. my usual weekend chores will likely be pushed to monday unless im able to get them done tomorrow (highly unlikely), so we'll just have to wait and see!
thank you for reading, and as i said on ao3, im really really grateful for the comments ive gotten, even the ones in tags on tumblr. im always happy for more, and im so curious to know what stood out to people the most.
