Bcs name meanings!
So I did this with tf2 characters already but I figured I’d give it a go with Better call Saul characters, because Vince tends to put in a lot of detail. So i can imagine the names might be intentional. At least somewhat. Sorry if any of these are inaccurate- this is just what the internet is telling me. (if characters share last names I’ll only do them once)
JAMES: Replacer MORGAN: Sea-born MCGILL: Son of the lad
KIMBERLY: From the meadow of the royal fortress WEXLER: Changer
CHARLES: Free man
HOWARD: High guardian HAMLIN: Little home lover
IGNACIO: Fiery one VARGA: Shoe-maker
MICHAEL: Who is like god EHRMANTRAUT: (Werner said it was world+ strength if my memory serves which is kind of correct? There is a whole debate apparently)
EDUARDO: Wealthy guard SALAMANCA: (aaparently this is a city in western Spain?)
TUCO: The ugly one (poor tuco :((( not true he’s very handsome)
MARCO: Of mars (War-like)
LEONEL: Young lion
HECTOR: Stead-fast
GUSTAVO: Royal Staff FRING: (I couldn’t personally find anything for this)
Some of the names seem to be picked because they just liked the names. Some of them, if you reach I could see being intentional. I’ll leave that up to you to decide though
oh, and of course
SAUL: Prayed for GOODMAN: Good man

Major analysis / theory for those who care about Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, Lalo, Nacho, & that line from like 13 years ago:
It wasn’t me, it was Ignacio/ Tell Me Again
*Adding A LOT! : * It Wasn’t Me, It Was Ignacio! Meaning *
… Lalo changes his plans and has Nacho drive him to Mexico. It’s important that we remember that Lalo originally had only asked Nacho to give him a ride to the border. He changed that plan when he wanted to investigate his legal team. Next thing he knows, there’s a massacre at his place in Mexico, an attempt on his life, and the last person he saw on US soil is Saul…. And Kim, with Mike secretly watching/ listening. Mike works for Gus, so as much as we appreciated Mike looking out for Jimmy in that scene, that’s not why he was there and we need to remember this. Because we also need to remember that Lalo is suspicious of Saul and knows that Mike works for Gus. And that’s going to matter the second Lalo thinks one more time about why he was suspicious of Saul before all of this happened. He thought he was lying to him about bullet holes in the desert. But who could’ve shot at his car that Saul would’ve needed to keep secret from Lalo? Lalo thought he couldn’t trust Nacho in the desert with his money, and Nacho ended up helping Gus with his plan to kill Lalo.
BUT when Lalo thinks back at it this way, could it look to him like SAUL is the one who has been teaming up with Gus (and Mike) with him? Do we not even think Lalo might retrace his steps? And if/when he does, will Nacho be the only one that looks suspicious to him?
I do not think that, as Mike told Kim, that it’s unlikely Lalo will reach out to them and he’s having his guys follow them on the “off chance” he does. I was reminded immediately of Felina/ the Breaking Bad finale when Marie tells Skyler that she’s got DEA agents watching her house “on the very off chance” Walt should attempt to get to her… meanwhile Walt’s already in the house .😂 When Mike was watching Lalo, Saul, and Kim at Saul’s apartment, there was an ominous moment where Mike would’ve had a clear shot to kill Lalo, if Jimmy and Kim would stop getting in the way.Next time maybe Kim won’t be that lucky. She’s got herself in an interesting situation.
So does Saul; don’t forget, it wasn’t him, it was Ignacio. The line everyone wants explained… because somehow it’s not good enough for us that:
-Right before an attempt on Lalo’s life, he was interrogating his now two-lawyer legal team (Saul and Kim) that he thinks is lying to him about bullet holes in the desert.
-“Get your house in order!,” The lawyer made of sterner stuff (Kim) yelled at him, reminding Lalo that Jimmy/Saul had been the only one he could trust, right before he went off to Mexico for his ambush/ assassination attempt.
-And now that she brings that up, does Lalo still think he was right to trust him? Interesting choice for Lalo to trust Jimmy with this, considering he didn’t even trust the guy who introduced him to Jimmy (Nacho) for that particular task.
-Nacho introduced Lalo to Saul… Lalo has got to be thinking about that when he goes over what just happened. Obviously Nacho betrayed him, but will he really believe the story Nacho told his family when he knows that Nacho hadn’t even planned on coming with him to Mexico? From the cartel’s vantage point, Nacho looks like the obvious culprit. The Salamanca’s, aside from Hector— and that’s only because Lalo put it in his head— didn’t have much trouble believing Nacho’s pretend story and that would betray them. But let’s not forget:?Gus’s plan sucked, Nacho was NOT EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE THERE, and Gus hadn’t figured out how his guys were going to get into Lalo’s property, but Lalo doesn’t know that., and he thinks Gus is behind this; I doubt he would believe Gus wouldn’t plan for that, even if he didn’t.
-The attempt on Lalo’s life was clearly premeditated, yet the person who confessed to getting paid in advance to betray him (Nacho) only found out that same day that he was even going to Mexico. Not that much time to prepare.. But Saul had time. Saul, friend of the cartel, he and his wife are quick on their feet, smarter and more calculating than they seem, AND, Saul is actually the one who knew in advance that Lalo was supposed to die in Mexico that night. I think he may have even found out about the plan before Nacho did. If Lalo figures out that Saul’s lie about what happened in the desert is connected to Mike and/or Gus, even if the concept seems absurd, would it really be that crazy for Lalo to think that Saul was the one conspiring against him with Gus? I mean, look at the shenanigans Saul ends up doing in Breaking Bad…
-That brings me to my favorite and most important point. Don’t believe that someone, even Lalo, could go after the bad guy’s lawyer instead of the bad guy himself? Let me remind you what was going on in “Better Call Saul,” meaning season 2, episode 8 of Breaking Bad, when Saul uttered the infamous line, “it wasn’t me, it was Ignacio!” Two masked men jumped a panicked Saul and bring him to an empty grave. Saul immediately thinks Lalo sent the attackers and cries out that he’s a friend of the cartel and it wasn’t him, it was Ignacio.
When Saul finds out it’s not Lalo’s guys, but Walt and Jesse, he learns that they’re attacking him because they’re worried about his client, Badger, ratting them out. Saul, still relieved the cartel didn’t send Walt and Jesse, asks them why they don’t just kill Badger. He reasons that most people would be going after the potential rat’s lawyer, they’d go after the rat. Saul THOUGHT Lalo was going after the lawyer instead of the bad guy, it just turns out it was Walt and Jesse. But maybe Saul assumed Lalo would try something like that because by then, perhaps it wouldn’t be the first time. As soon as Nacho opened that door at Lalo’s, my first thought was that somehow this would be the story that explains Saul saying “it wasn’t me, it was Ignacio, Lalo didn’t send you?” Over a decade ago.
And for some reason, we still say we need the writers to explain that the line means.
Just like Lalo, the fandom still needs someone to tell us again

my mind came up with possible connections between Jeff, Marion, and Kim so here's a brain fart of thoughts:
in s510 ('Something Unforgivable'), Kim mentions she's looking for "something specific" when she asked Grant for more PD overflow cases - we never really get a resolution here other than Kim saying she wants to make a big difference and Grant insinuating that working with juveniles will really tug on her heartstrings
in s610 ('Nippy'), Marion mentions to Gene that Jeff had some "tough times" and "fell in with a bad crowd" when he was in Albuquerque - i genuinely don't know if the age really matches up in terms of Kim taking on juvenile cases (probably not) BUT it's possible that Kim was looking for Jeff's case in PD overflow (maybe after being alerted/pressured by Marion?)
Kim & Marion - i don't want to go on a crazy limb with my feeble brain by assuming that Marion is also Kim's mother (though the fact that Marion lives in Nebraska might support this) HOWEVER, maybe it's possible that they do know each other from Kim's time in Red Cloud and somehow reconnected with each other after Marion contacted Kim about Jeff's previously unresolved PD case in ABQ
anyways, i am probably wrong but it was fun to see a possible connection! can't wait to see the rest of the episodes (shaking with fear)

The return of BCS color theory!
I've previously argued that Jimmy's color is all of them, and I stand by that. But out of all of them, yellow is the most prominent.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The two most obvious yellows associated with Jimmy are his iconic Esteem and the mug Kim gifted him, both of which have a touch of criminal red.
Tumblr media
The Wexler/McGill logo is a mix of Jimmy's yellow and Kim's blue (notice how the office is mostly yellow, because this is Jimmy's dream, not hers.)
So why yellow? Well, it's loud, it's bright, it catches the eye. Jimmy loves to be noticed. But most importantly - it's not red or blue. It's the other primary color! Because in the beginning, Jimmy's not quite criminal red, and not quite lawful blue. He's in his own category.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 1x01, there's yellow lighting in Jimmy's office (his attempt to play it straight), but there's also yellow when he reveals his Slippin' Jimmy past (notice the blues there, too, as his natural yellow crowds out his lawful aspirations).
What does it mean? I think it means that Jimmy's colorful approach to the law is not inherently criminal. If it was, he'd be red. The implication is that Jimmy could have made it as a legitimate lawyer while still being himself.
And to prove it, here are some shots from 1x05, when he visits Mrs. Strauss for the first time. Everything in her house is yellow - the walls, her furniture, even her teapot (although she herself is dressed in lawful blue.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jimmy the Elder Law Lawyer was perfectly in tune both with his natural colorful nature (his slippin' ways were what uncovered the financial abuse of the Sandpiper residents) and the law. He couldn't cut it in the stifling halls of HHM or Davis & Main. But he could have struck his own path and been happy. In a kinder universe, maybe he did. Alas. :(

i think Jimmy McGill should have had his nails painted at least once in BCS, yes. he painted them and Kim saw how messy it looked and sat him down in one of the nail salon massage chairs with the foot bath and painted his nails for him.

I'm just saying. Gus has killed people for...
Mentioning the existence of the superlab ("Winner")
General insubordination and to intimidate others ("Box Cutter")
One employee murdering another employee who was a child-murderer, even though Gus was probably going to murder the child-murderer anyway ("Full Measure")
I don't think it's insane to suggest that when Kim fled to Florida, Gus was planning to put a hit out on her, and Mike said "Leave her alone; she's not going to talk. She knows we'll kill her ex if she talks".
Other fans have argued that Kim didn't "know too much", but she did tho. Gus was undone by a fast food wrapper in an associate's apartment; it was worth everything to him that the DEA never suspected him, because if they started looking into him it would have all come crashing down. Having a woman who regularly works with law enforcement be out there able to finger him as connected to the Salamancas, seems like an uncharacteristically large risk for Gus to take.
Whether Jimmy feared this, and stayed in ABQ on purpose as collateral because of it, is more of a stretch. But I just don't like interpretations which assume the "She's in The Game now" line amounted to nothing of consequence for Kim.

And speaking of the last episode of TBBT being bad, I didn't like Sheldon's Nobel speech either. Him and Amy winning the Nobel was a good ending to the show and her speech was in character (and I love that she wore a tiara - it's nice that the writers remembered that about her), but his speech was a completely unearned and out-of-character feel-good moment. What, Sheldon suddenly speaks really eloquently about his feelings and his affection for his friends in front of a huge audience, he is not selfish or awkward at all anymore? He suddenly likes sentimental and showy displays of affection? Yeah, no. No he doesn't and no he isn't. This wasn't supported by anything.
I don't know why shows keep doing this. The last episode of Better call Saul (an extremely good show otherwise) sucked the same way. I guess they were trying to make the fans happy by having Saul say what people wanted him to say or adhere to some commonly held code of ethics. But that was completely ooc for him and... well, kinda ruined the character for me tbh. We watch him slowly become a sleazy dirtbag over the course of multiple seasons and then he's suddenly like in season 1 again because an old lady was angry at him? And then the entire class stood up and clapped, huh? (Wait, actually in BCS the entire class (prison bus) did stand up and clap.)
Or the end of LOST when they were all suddenly in heaven, after Ben's stupid unnecessary redemption arc. AND THEN EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT FOREVER. How about an end that doesn't insult the intelligence of the watchers?

Breaking Bad Color Theory
The popular western TV show, Breaking Bad, is possibly one of the greatest shows of all time. The term "Shakespearian" has been used more than once to describe it (usually compared to Macbeth). Just watching the first season of the show, you immediately notice that it has strong and vibrant colors. Characters (for example, Marie) also have their "usual" colors. Try to imagine Walter wearing blue, you just can not, it is strange. So, what do these colors actually mean? That is what this post is about.
Tumblr media
BIG BREAKING BAD SPOILERS, MINOR BETTER CAUL SAUL SPOILERS AHEAD!
In the image above, you can see that characters have usual colors, or that their colors change with them throughout the story. Let's look at what each of these mean, and their characters.
Tumblr media
GREEN
Green represents pride and greed. Green is the color of money, signifying greed. Green is almost always worn by Walter White. Walter's greed destroys him by the end of the story. In season one, shortly after Walter tells his family he has stage 3A lung cancer, Skyler organizes a "family talk". Walter is wearing green in this scene, because his pride is making him choose to not get chemotherapy when it would benefit the family most, and it is important to Skyler.
Tumblr media
YELLOW
Yellow represents anything that has to do with meth. The Pollos Hermanos uniform is yellow, hazmat suits are yellow, and the Mexico flashbacks are yellow. Jesse and Gus are most commonly seen in yellow, although most characters are (Walter). For example, Walter noticed the yellow on the doctor's jacket, because he is focusing on the meth industry, not his health or family.
Tumblr media
BLUE
Blue represents loyalty and honesty. Skyler almost always wears blue at the beginning of the show, but her colors start turning more black (See the first image for reference). Skyler's eyes are blue, and her name is a reference to the blue sky.
Tumblr media
RED
Red represents danger, violence, and "bad guys" (as the opposite to blue). Red is the color of blood and danger. Out of the main cast, Jesse is seen to wear the most red. A character will most likely wear red when they are going to do something violent (see the Jesse gun scene). In the image for the final season of Better Call Saul-
Tumblr media
-Jimmy (AKA Saul) is seen putting a red coat on. This symbolizes what the show is about, Jimmy's transition from good to bad. There is no real reason for Jimmy to choose bad (the same applies to Walter) he solely chooses it because it is bad.
Tumblr media
PINK
Pink is the color of youth and immaturity in Breaking Bad. All the presents at Holly's baby shower are pink, Holly's room is pink, the teddy bear is pink, and Jesse's last name (Pinkman) is symbolism of his immaturity.
Tumblr media
PURPLE
Purple is one of the most obvious colors, with Marie's house being covered in it. In Breaking Bad, purple represents self-deception, luxury, and not having to do with the meth trade (purple is the polar opposite of yellow). Throughout history, purple has been the color of luxury and riches. Saul Goodman (Jimmy) and Marie are the two main characters who wear purple.
Tumblr media
BEIGE
Beige is a bland color, representing plain, basic, and, most importantly, not being a danger to our protagonists. Walter wears beige while teaching, and most notably, the beige party in season one. "Jesus, guess we didn't get the "beige" memo." Is said by Skyler when they first come to the party.
Tumblr media
BLACK
Black is the absence of color, representing death and emptiness in Breaking Bad. Walter White's old business partner's name is Elliott Schwartz, "Schwartz" is German for black. The black and white creates a contrast between our protagonist and Elliot.
Tumblr media
WHITE
White is the opposite of black, representing life and innocence (Strange for it to be Walter's last name, right? /j) White is the name of our protagonist's family, Walter strips down in to his white underwear in the first season, the symbolism being that Walter had a new beginning in the meth industry. White is usually seen on Skyler, but Marie wears it some.
CONCLUSION
Thank you for reading this post. Breaking Bad changed the way colors are done on TV, I can't watch anything without thinking, "Oh! Red!" anymore. /lh

The writers decided to put krazy 8 in the show knowing other than Hank mentioning him once, no one ever came looking for him or Emilio in Breaking Bad. Now that we know his involvement dated back to Better Call Saul, this has to be reconciled and has to be one of the points where the shows cross over.
With Nacho gone (💔) Krazy 8 probably plays more of a role in the game.
Plus, we know Saul represented Emilio twice, and they’ve been showing him represent other clients that they briefly mentioned him working with in Breaking Bad, like we knew Spooge was a former client.
*Also, that wouldn’t be a bad opportunity to bring Jesse into Better Call Saul, since Emilio was his partner and he was aware of Saul representing him; it seemed that’s how Jesse knew who Saul was.
I’m trying to think of other areas where the shows have to cross too. I know about “it wasn’t me it was Ignacio / Lalo didn’t send you?”
I just noticed a bunch of people discussing BB and BCS on tumblr and barely anyone I know watches, so this is great!

"I've known good criminals and bad cops. Bad priests. Honorable thieves. You can be on one side of the law or the other. But if you make a deal with somebody, you keep your word. You can go home today with your money and never do this again. But you took something that wasn't yours. And you sold it for a profit. You are now a criminal. Good one, bad one? That's up to you."
~ Pop-Pop
Let's talk about Mike Ehrmantraut. He's in a unique position with regards to the law. As a dirty cop, Mike was simultaneously criminal and lawful. He knows the law is hypocritical and unevenly applied, and has no illusions that lawful = good and criminal = bad. When his son is killed by officers of the law, Mike must step outside of the law to get justice. So naturally, he mostly wears the color historically favored by outlaws everywhere - black.
Although he does struggle with it through the series. He wants to be lawful - or at least, he knows he should want to be lawful. He starts the series off in muted blue, when he is half-heartedly trying to live inside the law.
Tumblr media
But he reverts to black pretty quickly. When his former colleagues come to interrogate him about the deaths of his son's killers, he's in black, refusing to cooperate. He will have nothing to do with the law anymore.
Tumblr media
Blue creeps back when Nacho tries to convince him to murder Tuco. He may be an outlaw now, but murder is still a pretty big law to break. He wears a black jacket (outlaw) with a very muted blue shirt (he still has lines he won't cross...for now).
Tumblr media
When he meets with Gus, he's in black and gray. He knows working for Gus is going to put him well out of the reach of lawful blue...
Tumblr media
...but he still hasn't given up completely on a lawful life, as we see with his flirtations with Anita, wearing blue jeans and a blue checked shirt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But his blues are always faded, and he's much more comfortable in black:

What would have happened if Jimmy had gone to therapy/grief counseling that Kim recommended? And he had gone in the same bathroom weeks later, seeing Howard maybe less stressed, maybe doing better. And out of curiosity just asks, "How are you moving on?"
Howard looks up from the sink, surprised Jimmy's talking to him, not screaming or fighting or sassing him but actually talking, "I'm sorry?"
"Chuck. How'd you move on from Chuck?"
"I don't..." He fixes his tie, "I go to therapy twice a week. It helps. I could refer you to them-"
"No no, I have one." Jimmy says, waving out a hand, looking at the soap in the sink by the rim covered in rust, "Kim found it for me."
"Ah." Howard nods, "How's it going, if I may ask?"
Jimmy sighs, "Chuck would kill me if he found out what I was doing."
"That makes two of us."
They laugh, and if it isn't so forced this time, they don't notice.
