“ERNIE’S CHICAGO STYLE HAWT DAWGS LOGO”
 Digital
 2022
Here’s a custom logo commission I did for FL based Hot Dog stand ERNIE’S. I had fun making this one. The owner attended UNO in NOLA and worked in CHICAGO where he fell in love with the CHICAGO STYLE hot dog. Hence the logo having a blend of those big and novel CHICAGO HOT DOG signs and the vibe and color scheme of the Big Easy.
The logo started as a hand drawn image and was digitally recreated to vector to make it pop more.
If you or someone you know needs a custom logo or brand image feel free to reach out. Also, if you find yourself in the FWB area of North Florida feel free to stop by and say hi and treat yourself to some of the best Chicago Style dogs outside of the Windy City.

BIG, BURLY, BRUISING, BASS BASTARD.
PIC INFO: Spotlight on badass bass-man Chris Gates of punk funk/hardcore punk band, the BIG BOYS, photo by Bill "Fotobill" Daniels, from the CD booklet to "The Fat Elvis" compilation CD released under the Touch and Go label in 1993.
PUNK GLOBE: "The BIG BOYS were such pioneers on so many different levels. Did you, back then, think you were creating something that would go on to become so legendary?"
CHRIS: "We have no idea that the music we are making or the art we were creating was going to have any sort of lasting impact on anyone. We explored every idea we thought of, ventured off into a million different musical areas and had a great time doing it. The fact that people are still interested in it 35 [40+ in 2023] years later is mind-boggling. I guess no one ever really knows they're making history at the time they're actually doing what they're doing, which is probably a good thing. We sure as hell weren't trying to create something memorable we were just trying to entertain ourselves and create some art that we enjoyed."

[LINK IN BIO] Fluke 18 review in Razorcake 120: “One of the many things I admire about Fluke is it’s like stepping into a community when you open it up. There’s some returning folks like Gary Floyd, and then there’s the shared connections (three of the people featured in this issue all know buZ blurr, and I imagine Gary Floyd and Bill Daniel know each other through their involvement with Texas, and later San Francisco, punk). Along with the interviews (Susan A. Phillips, Bill Daniel, Gary Floyd), you get skateboarding in Arkansas, Linda Kite writing about Desolation Center, Sergej Vutuc photos and more. The interviews are always interesting and go beyond light talk. The articles are personal and make you feel like you’re there with the writer. Easily one of the best zines going.” -Matt Average #zine #zines #flukefanzine #flukezine #fanzine #fanzines #punkzine #billdaniel #whoisbozotexino #buzblurr #susanaphilips #graffiti #garyfloyd #dickshatepolice #minuteman #lindakite #desolationcenter #dboon #nxoeed #jamesbhunt #sergejvutuc #skateboarding #80sskateboarding (at Phoenix, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKbxl23DFFs/?igshid=15za06j1t3tyj

"....TRANSFIXED BY THE BRAWLING RHYTHM SECTION OF THE STOCKY CHRIS GATES..."
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on "Fat Elvis" CD booklet photos of punk rock bassist Chris Gates, plus live shots of Texas hardcore/punk funk band, the BIG BOYS, doing what they did best in the early '80s. 📸: Bill "Fotobill" Daniels.
"...the BIG BOYS' peculiar split personality (one part BLACK FLAG, one part CAMEO) became the soundtrack to my college years and I found myself preaching to my friends about them regularly.
When they played in Chicago I was front and center, transfixed by the brawling rhythm section of the stocky Chris Gates and the boyish Reynolds Washam and the twin weirdness of oddly-haired alien guitar scientist Tim Kerr and the Titanic Randy "Biscuit" Turner, who reminded me of one of those tutu-clad dancing hippos from "Fantasia.""
-- STEVE ALBINI on the BIG BOYS (abridged), from CD liner notes to the 1993 "Fat Elvis" CD compilation on Touch and Go Records

[LINK IN BIO] Bill Daniel, Phoenix, AZ 2014. Bill answered a few questions about buZ blurr for Fluke 11 back in 2013. This new issue has a full interview with Bill, a personal hero of mine since 1992, when I read his article “Who is Bozo Texino?” in Cometbus issue 27. So yes, it’s truly an honor to have him in issue 18. We talked about zines, Aaron Cometbus, buZ blurr and monikers, among other things. Susan A. Phillips—also interviewed in Fluke 18–had this (and more) to say about Bill: “Bill is genius-level smart. His work has been central to the formation of this entire freight train moniker world, fandom and all. He’s basically a cult figure in the world of moniker writing. He carries a lot of respect in the art world in general. His Bozo Texino film really put him on the map. When you pay attention to small things, like Bill does, you learn a great deal about the world and it’s workings.” Go get Bill’s film, books and photographs at billdaniel.net! @bill.daniel #billdaniel #whoisbozotexino #bozotexino #moniker #monikers #trixnoise #mostlytrue #cometbus #zine #zines #fanzine #fanzines #artzine #artzines #hobos #hobomonikers #traingraff #traingraffiti (at the BIKINI LOUNGE phoenix) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCtG1EIDv1W/?igshid=1egvc3a3amad6

[LINK IN BIO] Did you get your copy of issue 18? Here’s what Antiquated Future has to say about it. “A fantastic new issue of the long-running Fluke Fanzine, this time focused on outsider art. Full of odd connections, scenes crossing over, countercultures meeting. Graffiti subcultures, freight-train monikers, '80s skateboarding culture, punk history, experimental film, queercore. Within: filmmaker Bill Daniel (of Who is Bozo Texino? fame) on the influence of early '90s Cometbus and Sluggo! zines, photographer Garry Winogrand, and '80s Texas skate-punk band the Big Boys. A fascinating in-depth interview with graffiti historian Susan A. Phillips (The City Beneath: A Century of Los Angeles Graffiti, Wallbangin'). Linda Kite on her life with D Boon of Minutemen and seeing the '80s L.A. punk scene as conceptual art. Sergej Vutuc's dream-like skateboarding photography. Gary Floyd (of Dicks and Sister Double Happiness) on being a gay Texan punk in the 1970s and touring with Nirvana the year Nevermind broke. And legendary train-graffiti artist buZ blurr (AKA Colossus of Roads) at the center of everything, holding everyone together.” #flukefanzine #flukezine #zine #zines #punkzine #fanzine #fanzines #zinemaking #zineart #artzine #colossusofroads #buzblurr #billdaniel #whoisbozotexino #outsiderart #moniker #monikers #graffiti #graffitiart #garyfloyd #dickshatepolice #lindakite #dboon #minutemen #desolationcenter #sergejvutuc #skateboarding #punkrock (at Phoenix, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDQ8nN6DrfF/?igshid=hkk08hzgef0s

[LINK IN BIO] Fluke 18 has a ten page interview with Professor Susan A. Phillips of Pitzer College and author of The City Beneath: A Century of Los Angeles Graffiti. Susan has been researching graffiti since 1990 and shares with us her vast knowledge and discoveries, including graffiti dating back to the early 20th century by legendary hobo A-No. 1. She also talks about Bill Daniel, buZ blurr and Chaz Bojórquez, as well as others. Susan explains the different motives of graffiti writing by trans, queer and straight people—men and women. She also discusses protest graffiti and uses the George Floyd protests as an example to illustrate her perspective. There’s a lot more in the interview and if you haven’t read her new book, it’s a tome of information! Thank you, Susan. “There’s a delightful tension between known and unknown in the graffiti world. It’s one of the things I love about it. In fact, I prefer that tension to knowing the whole story sometimes. One point of view would be that the whole story is something we can never know—even about our own lives.” -Susan A. [LINK IN BIO] Fluke 18 is now available! This issue focuses on outsider art and culture. We caught up with filmmaker, photographer and cinematographer Bill Daniel—creator of the experimental documentary film Who is Bozo Texino?—and talked about zines, Aaron Cometbus and Bill's train-hopping adventures that eventually led to discovering the moniker writers of the US railways system. Susan A. Phillips of Pitzer College and author of The City Beneath: A Century of Los Angeles Graffiti has been researching graffiti since 1990. Susan shares with us her vast knowledge and discoveries, including graffiti dating back to the early 20th century by legendary hobo A-No. 1. We welcome back Gary Floyd (Dicks, Sister Double Happiness). Gary talks about growing up in Gurdon, Arkansas, moving to Austin and forming the Dicks, and touring with Nirvana with Sister Double Happiness. Sergej Vutuc—photographer, zine maker, skateboarder and musician now based in Paris, France—contributes his skateboarding photographs that are like none other. buZ blurr of Colossus of Roads fame writes about connecting with Bill Daniel in the early '90s, during Bill's search for Bozo Texino. buZ also contributed art for this issue. Linda Kite writes about her relationship with D Boon (Minutemen) and the Desolation Center shows around LA in the early to mid '80s. Also in this issue you'll find more art and photographs as well as writings about skateboarding, music, art and friendship. It is my hope that this issue will inspire you to keep searching, keep creating and keep living through these troubled times. 56 pages, $4. Check the different options on the site. Buy the zine, shirt and sticker for only $20! Unknown Arkansas: when I was 20 years old in 1992, a couple of friends and I were reading Cometbus issue 27 while hanging out by the tracks back home in Little Rock. We came across an article titled “Who is Bozo Texino?” written by one Bill Daniel. In this article revealed what he called “hobo graffiti,” on the rail cars across America. Names such as Bozo Texino. Herby. The Rambler. Bird Dog. Gypsy Sphinx. And Colossus of Roads. My friends and I walked the tracks to the old boxcars down the line and there they all were, in real life. I’ll never forget the feeling I had, as if we discovered something truly underground that most people know nothing about. That feeling has never left me. Here’s a photo I took of buZ blurr, at his farm in Surrealville, Arkansas last November. For the uninitiated. I’ll let you do your homework on who he is. To me, he is a living legend and a friend. An inspiration to the blue collar and the artist alike. This is one of the photos featured in Splendid Feast photo and art show in Long Beach this Saturday (buZ and Bill are also in it)! Life is surreal, indeed. . . . #splendidfeast #colossusofroads #buzblurr #billdaniel #whoisbozotexino #monikermonday #moniker #monikers #gypsysphinx #fillthefordfullyfolly #cometbus #flukefanzine #flukezine (at Arkansas) https://www.instagram.com/p/B353dRpgVTt/?igshid=13b9er5bxq55y
