Naval Surgeon's medicine chest, belonging to surgeon Sir Benjamin F. Outram (1774-1856) and reputedly used at the battle of Copenhagen 1801
Outram was first employed in the naval medical service in 1794, and was promoted to the rank of surgeon in 1796. He served in HMS Harpy, HMS La Nymphe, and HMS Boadicea. He was surgeon in HMS Superb in the second battle of Algeciras, where Sir James Saumarez obtained a victory over the French and Spanish fleets on 12 July 1801. He received war medals and clasps for his services under Sir Richard Goodwin Keats. Then for a period he was surgeon to the royal yacht, HMS Royal Sovereign.
In 1806, with a view to private practice, Outram went to Edinburgh, and there graduated doctor of medicine on 24 June 1809. He was admitted a licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians of London on 16 April 1810, and then began as a physician at Hanover Square in London, where he lived more than 40 years. He acted as physician to the Welbeck Street Dispensary. On 3 May 1838 he was elected a fellow of the Royal Society; he also became an early member of the Royal Geographical Society.
In 1841 Outram became medical inspector of her Majesty's fleets and hospitals. He was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB) on 17 September 1850, and was admitted a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians on 9 July 1852. He died at Brighton on 16 February 1856, and was buried at Clifton, Bristol.

Thomas Thornycroft (UK, 1815 - 1885)
Triumphant Boudica with Doughters on Chariot, 1856-85. Bronze positioned near Westminster Bridge in 1902.
Boudica (also written as Boadicea), Brythonic *boudi 'victory, win' + *-ka 'having' suffix, i.e. 'Victorious Woman', known in Latin chronicles as Boadicea or Boudicea, and in Welsh as Buddug.
After a Roman occupation force flogged her and raped her daughters, Celtic Queen Boudicca, led a revolt against Romans in 60 or 61 A.D., took London and finally defeated in 62 AD. Queen Victoria revived the forgotten legendary name.

The name Boudica or Boudicca (also known as Boadicea or in Welsh, Buddug) is known from a couple of ancient sources. Tacitus (Annals) calls her Boudicca, while Cassius Dio (Roman History), who wrote in Greek, called her Βουδουῖκα - Boudouika. As the name, however it is spelt, is linked to the Celtic word for 'victory', it is unclear if this was her real name, or a title bestowed upon her.
In Celtic the name was most probably pronounced along the lines of Boadika, the 'Boa' sound like the bow of 'bow and arrow'. Boudica was a queen of the Iceni tribe who were based around modern day Norfolk. She led an uprising against the Romans in AD 60 or 61 and died following her defeat, perhaps by poisoning herself.
Her characteristic image, with long flaming hair, is a modern invention. Cassius Dio is the only author to give us a description (this from a man who was born a hundred years after her death). He describes her in the following way (LXII 2.2):
"In stature she was very tall, in appearance most terrifying, in the glance of her eye most fierce, and her voice was harsh; a great mass of the tawniest hair fell to her hips; around her neck was a large golden necklace; and she wore a tunic of divers colours over which a thick mantle was fastened with a brooch. This was her invariable attire."

Christianity
According to Dr. Paul Wesley Chilcote in his 1991 book, John Wesley and the Women Preachers of early Methodism, “Women have proclaimed the good news they discovered in Christ since the earliest periods of the Church’s history. The women preachers of early Methodism hardly represented a new phenomenon in the life of the Christian community…”
There was always plenty of opposition over different ways of preaching for both men and women – all part of Christianity.

The name Boudica or Boudicca (also known as Boadicea or in Welsh, Buddug) is known from a couple of ancient sources.
In stature she was very tall, in appearance most terrifying, in the glance of her eye most fierce, and her voice was harsh; 4 a great mass of the tawniest hair fell to her hips; around her neck was a large golden necklace; and she wore a tunic of divers colours over which a thick mantle was fastened with a brooch. This was her invariable attire. The word he uses for hair colour is ξανθοτάτος - xanthotatos - meaning 'most golden'. With xanthos in Greek referring to anything from blonde through to auburn, it is difficult to tell what hair colour Cassius Dio imagined. But perhaps even in Roman times the idea of the fiery Celtic redhead was already a thing. When Prasutagus, king of the Iceni, died, he left half of his kingdom to the emperor Nero, hoping in this way to secure the other half for his family. However, the imperial procurator, Decianus Catus - perhaps aware that Nero viewed a half-share of an estate as a personal snub (or perhaps because of mistrust of Boudica?) - moved to sequester the lot. When the royal family resisted these moves, Boudica was flogged and her daughters were raped.
according to the writings of Tacitus. To avenge this outrage, Boudicca waited until the provincial governor, Paulinus, was abroad, then gathered the Iceni and other tribes from the area and raised a rebellion. The rebels burned Camulodunum (Colchester), Verulamium (St Albans) and several military posts, before attacking Londinium (present day London). In total, Tacitus estimated that they killed around 70,000 Romans and pro-Roman Britons and slaughtered the Roman Ninth Legion. This was an incredible turn of events. As the Romans fell back in retreat, the British tribes appeared to be on the brink of reclaiming their native land for themselves. As she prepared to attack again, Tacitus described Boudicca climbing a large mound of piled earth to rally her troops, claiming, “You will conquer the Romans – or die trying.”
It was not to last, however. The Roman Empire could not allow this revolt to succeed. Reinforcements quickly arrived and, under Paulinus’ command, met the British rebels in London. It was a savage battle, but the experienced Roman army won the day. Some 80,000 Britons were massacred and, rather than be captured and sold into slavery, Boudicca poisoned herself.
With heavy sarcasm, Tacitus called the outcome a "glorious victory comparable with bygone triumphs." He knew that the Pax Romana – the peace of Rome – was underpinned by brutality and war: "Rome creates a desert," he later wrote, "and calls i
