He can be really supportive of others when the situation calls for it, as seen with Lady during the end phases of DMC3, or even with Trish in the ending of DMC1. Hell he tries to look after Nero the best he can, even if he's sometimes insensitive about it

He's got a bigger heart than he lets on: in DMC3, even before he fully transitioned from "adrenaline junkie who doesn't care if the world goes to shit so long as he gets to have fun" to "more or less responsable adrenaline junkie who's willing to make tough choices for the good of everyone" he still tried to save Lady from a strike by Vergil when she interfered with their fight.

3 bad qualities:

He's a complete slob, who's always wasting around in his office not really taking care of himself, just stuffing his face with pizza, strawberry sundaes and alcohol

He's got a bad habit of getting into debts that he cannot repay, as Lady would likely confirm, since I believe he owes her a ton of cash in the anime

While he genuinely cares for Nero and wants him to stay out of harm's way it's pretty clear from his comments about him being a deadweight and "needing to sit this one out" that he doesn't fully understand or take seriously his insecurities

Well technically it's DMC3, for giving us the most dynamic, perhaps human and falliable Dante, though DMC5 is close for striking the best balance between being a goofball and a "I'm getting too old for this shit" 40 yo responsable adult

I know everyone wants him to get into Lady's pants, but honestly aside from their interactions in DMC3 I just don't see enough chemistry and it often feels to me that fans like to pair them together mostly because she's the only available option that doesn't devolve into problematic territory

We know that for the longest time he didn't use to have the highest opinion of Sparda, but it's implied that over the years this changed. I like to imagine that, since he never learned much about his father's "adventures" when he was a kid he sometimes tries to research stories and old folk tales about him in order to learn more about him...when he can get his lazy ass off his office chair

Vergil:

do I like them

For all intents and purposes I shouldn't, since I don't have a huge liking for purely edgy characters, even if their edginess can lead to some unintentional hilarity (look: Infinite) but Vergil is helped by having a more or less convincing backstory for his edgy behaviour (a backstory that I would have liked explored DURING DMC3 not AFTER in supplemental materials, not to mention DMC5 not delving as deeply as I would have liked) while still being pretty hilarious in his stone faced edginess. Plus he's genuinely and consistently threatening, and his brand of edginess is more of the "stoic badass who commands respect with a simple stare but who gets punked on by goofy brother" rather than "dude's a pathetic loser who got a dose of raw power and thinks he's hot shit and so just spews out edgy catchphrases thinking he's cool". With the former it's someone who is equally powerful who humiliates him, with the latter he just inadvertedly humiliates himself and I don't think it was the actual intention

5 good qualities

He's very good at keeping himself neat and tidy for someone who's technically more of a hobo than his brother (I mean I don't think Vergil has a house no?)

He's very perceptive as to when somebody might just be trying to trick him (like when he attempted to kill Arkham because he rightly suspected he was trying to double cross him)

Has some fine taste in literature

The fact that his human side was able to see the consequences of his destructive behaviour, and the fact that he was willing to stop his fight with Dante and listen to Nero and try to cut down the Qliphoth before it was too late (though only after some hefty convincing and ass kicking) shows that there might still be some form of hope for him. Maybe not outright "redemption" (kinda hard to make up for killing an entire city's population), but he may one day stop being an evil douche

Truly motivated chad

3 bad qualities:

Well y'know the whole "gotta get more power even if it means destroying the world" mindset

Really shortsighted: yeah he wants to gain more power in response to his childhood trauma....but what then? What will he do after he gets what he wants? Will he ever be satisfied with the kind of power he can gain? I don't think Vergil has ever bothered making long term plans for his future

He should really work towards paying that due child support

-Jarrod tries to relive his childhood since his was kind of rough but it's never too late to embrace your inner child. In this universe there would be a Dairanger anime and that's definitely a show that got him through some stuff when moving through foster homes.

Dai shi scrambled through Jarrod's memories while possessing him and found the dairanger ones and while meaningless to the being he made an oc of sorts when he found a liking to Shadam(the oc being Long) and he was going to use the form in the final battle but was killed before then.

oh my gosh, yes, a million times yes. anything for you and also anything for Sherman

favorite thing about them Sherman is so humble. Like, the smartest person on the team in S1 and, if you contribute emotional intelligence, also the smartest person on the team in S2. Sherman just loves science so much and gets excited and even carried away when he figures things out but he would never brag about it. also, this man might have the biggest heart on the team. If I had to play screw/marry/kill with the BF5, I would marry Sherman every time. Like, he is solid, he is smart, he is dependable, and he will protect and respect you until the end of time. He supports everyone on the team that he talks to and he has such good emotional intelligence, like when he's asking Sage about her family in Stormshocker he handles that with such perfect tact. he's just a big, smart, sweet teddy bear but he will also f*ck you up in a microsecond if you hurt his brother and I love that parallel

least favorite thing about them the food jokes!! this is more of a screenwriter thing than a Sherman thing. Like, just let the man be big and strong and don't make fun of him pls and thnx also not Sherman's fault because he is blameless, but I think his character model is a little disproportionate (like, his chest is very big and his waist is very small) and idk it just throws me off a little but does not interfere with my love of this character

favorite line "no one reads your blog." hands-down, this is a top-tier Battle Force burn. Spinner should have been sent to the infirmary after this "live to see my next birthday," in response to Spinner saying "What would you do without me?" is also a classic. Like, this man has WIT and he is not afraid to use it lastly, "hands. off. THE BUSTER." from Ascent of the Red Sentients part 2 makes me feel things that cartoon characters should not make a human feel. like, that shit shivers my timbers

brOTP I'm here for the Sherman/Agura brOTP. I think the Cortez brothers remind Agura of her own brothers, which is such a perfect set-up for their relationship, and I love how much he supports her in "Behind Enemy Lines" when she's first figuring out how to be second-in-command. Also how she pays that support back in "Glitchin'" when they lose Spinner and she's helping him repair the Buster. Plus of course SmashClaw helps that dynamic blossom. Like Sherman just has so much respect for her and he remembers things Vert doesn't, like saying "guys. AND GIRL." she's literally called him the only gentleman on the team but he would never underestimate her because she's the only girl, if that makes sense. I just think he has a perfect understanding of how she wants to be seen among them and plays into it super nicely. Wow going to write about this now ok bye

OTP I don't know if I have a strict OTP for Sherman but Sherman and Tezz could be very, very cute. Like, two geniuses with vastly different personalities, supporting each other in their scientific discoveries? Late-night "lab "work?" @bronan posted fanart of them for the Christmas gift exchange and this ship has lived in my head rent-free ever since.

nOTP hmm... Sherman/Spinner for obvious reasons. There are definitely a few ships that I can't really see with Sherman, but none so strongly that I'd include them here?

random headcanon Sherman is a really, really good cook, like the best cook on the team. (yes I realize this conflicts with my "least favorite thing about them" answer but like, just let him love cooking and food & don't make jokes about it.) Whenever they're sick of pizza he'll cook something really delicious for everyone. Sherman is the epitome of "Baking is the tastiest science" and you cannot change my mind about that.

Her snark was always quite funny, especially early on. I also love how she just...outright attacked Avalon and literally roasted the entire club and shattered everything around her. All because of some conspiracy theories

least favorite thing about them

The season 5 plotline about her and Timmy going dating, when the show pretented they never were on a single real date before. They were and it was even a source of conflict earlier, because Timmy was too focused on their shared interests to see that Tecna wanted something more. And then she needed dating advice from the other girls, yikes. I hate when they turn a character into a klutz regarding romance or styling when they had no such problems beforehand

(while picking out the ugliest dress Stella has in her closet) How about this one? You'll surely leave a lasting impression like this.

With Digit I guess? I like that unlike the other Pixies and their bonded Winx the two of them just get along and that she's so helpful to Tecna (Amore and Lockette are too but they're way too cutesy sometimes)

The shows writing when she wanted to get revenge on the Wizards of the Black Circle for causing Nabu's death. Her and the other Winx splitting up, for a laughably short time at that, and them being like "Nuh, revenge is evil! Don't be consumed by hatred!" As if Bloom wouldn't have ripped Valtor's still beating heart out of his chest. I understood them not going for outright murder when the wizards apparently gave up and asked for protection, but like, that was a trick. It cost one of their friends his life. And they killed their villains before. So killing is okay, unless you're too angry while doing it?

When she was younger she frequently visited the mermaid side of her family (if they were family back then, the writing is subpar in this regard) The atmosphere with Queen Ligea, Tressa and the twins was less strict than in Aisha's own palace, and she became an excellent swimmer while spending time with them (better than the usual Andros citizen)

unpopular opinion

Aisha was completely justified in using her Sirenix wish to save her cousin instead of giving Nabu his life back. I love Nabu as much as the next guy, but he was dead and Nereus was dying. It would have been incredibly cold of Aisha to let him die, even though she had the power to help him. Not to mention the immense guilt hse would have felt for being unable to save another person she cared about, and this time choosing not to do so as well. Nabu probably wouldn't have liked being brought back on the cost of Aisha sacrificing another life either

5: first headcanon that pops into my head: Uh I shared this earlier, but whenever he grabs Vincent's hand, he says "Sea otters hold hands so they don't drift away from each other". That's a true fact by the way! For a completely new one, he has an entire room of stuffed animals and his favorite animals are sharks, whales, and otters.

6: one way in which I relate to this character: Chaotic gay energy in which we terrify all those around each other but also repress our emotions.

7: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character: He just sits there gaslighting Taylor and going "you must be stressed out there was nothing here lol now close your eyes". What a terrible therapist now I see why Vincent gave him 1 star

It had all stopped so suddenly. It hadn’t been like anything had been declared, nothing permanent. After the war they’d just sort of fallen in together. First it was the hotel room. Then it was a pizza. Duo’s laughter had saved him. Even months after he last heard it, Duo’s laugh was what he kept breathing for. It wasn’t like there was a lot of other purpose. Weapons are supposed to be decommissioned, after all. Except the memory of Duo’s laugh, Duo’s kisses, Duo sleeping next to him, these things meant he was human. Pain meant he was alive. He still had the ring, though his finger was too small to keep it on anymore.

Given that my current Act of Hubris Involving Video Editing is putting English subtitles on this production, I guess now is a good of a time as ever to finally officially liveblog it.

TBE Week 2020: Best Written Ship (BroTP) ↳ Campbell Caldwell & Theodore Sherwood (with Kae)

here’s the thing about campbell and theo: they were never supposed to be this. when kae and i originally plotted them, they were friends with benefits who were also just plain friends. they were not supposed to be as close as they are. they were not supposed to be as deep as they are, and yet here we are a few years later and they are one of my best written and most enjoyable friendships.

campbell and theo are friends with benefits, but the heavy emphasis is on the friends. they met at a bar and after a very short conversation, theo very bluntly asked if she wanted to go hook up. it grew from there. when he got struck by lightning, she helped him figure out how to still have certain types of fun despite his heart problems. they have a soap opera that they watch (with deep shame) together. they are constantly daring one another to do things, making bets, and collecting blackmail on one another. they are complete and total assholes to one another and will never really say how much they care about the other, but it shows in almost everything they do.

the greatest thing about them is that while they have been hooking up for years, its purely platonic. there is no underlying yearning for the other. there is no potential for something more between them. when campbell gets into one of her always doomed relationships, their friendship continues without any jealousy or animosity because its just not like that with each other. they are friends beyond anything else.

kae and i have put a lot of time into developing fun things about them too. for instance, they booty call one another with gifs. they only watch bold and the beautiful in her bedroom, because it has extra locks on the door and no one can know their deep shame. they recently went five months not being allowed to say no to anything while in one another’s company (with certain stipulations). they’re on a quest to definitively prove that pizza is the best food - which means trying every single restaurant in new orleans. i get enjoyment out of every part of this dynamic, which in my mind is an important part of something being well-written.

This bakery au loosely follows the plot of Pride and Prejudice. I love the enemies to lovers and classism aspect in this fic. It is so very well written and the characterisation is spot on!
