#But I can't help but hope that the treatment will work and I'll be cured

ok, just saw the physio I've been Waiting months for ( /ot but apparently it was my friends mum)
She told me that I was just an unhealthy growing teen so yay, hopefully that's true and the eight week treatment plan she made actually works and doesn't fuck me up more >;3 /hj
I genuinely wanna believe that just doing some exercise that I've already done like 10x before will magically heal my 3 years of pain but I just can't take it seriously. I just want the 8 week's treatment plan to be over so I can either celebrate that my seemingly chronic pain is cured or go back to the physio and go through more tests, and more treatment because it didn't work.

Info for my next charity stream for PIGA-CDG!
I will be playing Siege for *24 hours straight*, plus celebrating Smoke and Kapkan's birthdays!
Tune in at http://twitch.tv/sarahmurphy
Learn more at https://piga-cdg.org
PIGA-CDG is a very rare X-linked disorder of glycosylation that so far has only been identified in about 100 children. Since it is such a rare disease, it is hard for to raise awareness and the support necessary to find a cure.
Most children who have this pass away before age 4.
This system affects every system in the body, the most common issues are delayed motor development, respiratory difficulties, and seizures.
My cousin is one of the children who has this disorder.
There is hope! A lot of amazing work has been done looking into drug repurposing and gene therapy to get treatments or a cure, but we can't do it alone.
We need funds to support this research. With your help, we could cure PIGA-CDG.
There will be donation rewards during the event as well. There will be challenges, and you can torment me as I get repeatedly flashbanged and shot at for 24 hours.
I can't promise I'll play with skill, but I will play with heart.
If you want to check out the donation pages, here they are:
More information: https://piga-cdg.org

so I have an idea. instead of Rio that Viktor takes care of as a kid, it's s/o instead & shes a mutated humanoid? How would they get along? What'll Viktor do when he sees her in that dying state Rio was in before he stopped seeing singed? I hoped he'd rescue her but that would remove shimmer. So the endings up to u but I'd also wonder what it would be like if they grew up together all the way to when viks now in topside, maybe some alternate endings? shimmers not vital in here so it's up to u
(Sorry this request took so long, this was a super interesting concept and I had to think long about how I wanted to approach it. Hopefully you enjoyed!)
Tumblr media
• You both meet as children, and young Viktor is absolutely fascinated by you. You're unlike anything he has ever seen
• Because of your special condition, you had been sent to Singed for monitoring and possible experimentation to look for a "cure"
• But as we all well know, the Doctor has a very warped sense of what constitutes a cure, or being "alive"
• Viktor tutors you after school, as you're under the constant supervision of Singed you don't exactly have much time for education. He tutors you in English, Math and Science
• You two spend a lot of time by the water together, and he knows all the best places you two can be alone without anyone finding you
• When Singed reveals you will most likely die due to your condition, Viktor is inconsolable
• He promises you that he will find a way to help you, and this drives him to working for a scholarship to the Academy, where he will have the resources to offer better help
• As the years go by and he grows older, he realizes that Singed's treatment of you is animalistic
• In the dead of the night he steals you from Singed's lab and provides you a space at his home
• "I'll protect you now. No one will ever hurt you like that again, I promise you."
• Your condition is still declining, so this is priority for him. He continues to find new ways to keep you stable, and keeps you a secret from everyone out of fear you will be mistreated again
• Eventually, he may find a way to save you. Possibly using Hextech, however he is very reluctant to put you through any more pain
• He really just wants to see you happy and healthy, the two of you have been inseparable since childhood, so he refuses to even contemplate what might happen if he can't cure you

Adult Trio with a s/o who is dying from a rare disease
Eventually she survives but becomes very weak (headcanon)
this one's gonna be a little sad 😭 even though she survives, it'll still be heartbreaking to see your lover in that state. these ones are a bit similar to my cancer headcanons, be sure to check it out too!
this is also VERY late. i had a very eventful break and struggled with my schedule. also, i accidentally got addicted to genshin impact. yes, im ashamed 😭 i hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
chrollo lucilfer!
“ don't overwork yourself, my love. you fought against death, so i'm going to fight for you to live comfortably. ”
if there's anything that i know about loved ones having rare diseases, finding treatment will be both difficult and expensive
i have a feeling that chrollo will have a similar reaction to when his s/o had cancer, but he might be a bit more on edge
he won't be afraid to drop more work on the troupe and on himself to make money for treatment
in the situation that you must go under surgery, he's sticking by your side the whole time. maybe he'll find a nen user who can cure you if surgery doesn't exist!
just know that he isn't one to give up
when you recover from the disease, there were a few side effects to your treatment that caused you to become weak
chrollo has a trusted group member (ahem, kindly see yourselves out, feitan, nobunaga, and uvogin) waiting on you hand and foot. why wouldn't he do so? he has the money?
Tumblr media
illumi zoldyck!
“ you can't fend for yourself, y/n. i'll have to protect you. even when you get back on your feet, you best stay behind me. ”
illumi is loaded
but even money has its limits
illumi is also smart and knows that there's one thing he can use to solve his problems fast
NANIKA
illumi wants to use nanika as quick as possible just to save the love of his life. maybe killua thought about helping him, but who in their right mind would fall in love with illumi? (me)
eventually he finds a capable nen user that can heal you, but unfortunately, it deteriorated your strength immensely.
illumi prefers to have his lover depend on him, but that doesn't mean he enjoys to watch you suffer.
as a future zoldyck, you have the BEST material conditions possible. emotionally?? ehhhhh... we can discuss that part later.
Tumblr media
hisoka morrow!
“ look at you, my sweet. you're doing so well. ”
hisoka.. i'm sure he's loaded, but i'm not sure how he spends it, you know
back to the cancer post, hisoka has really no use for "broken toys" as he put it
however, i'm about to commit an act of ooc for the sake of making hisoka simps happy
i just realized how much i'm referencing the cancer post with this one.. i'm sorry 😭
he doesn't spend lots of time with you in the hospital, but you know that he'll ALWAYS come and visit you at some point. it doesn't matter if he comes at 11pm or 4:27am, but he's going!
once you get out, hisoka makes sure that you're far away from all of his bullshit
picture it: you're staying in hisoka's apartment. despite the fact that your haven't seen him for about two months or so, there's a stocked fridge, cabinets, and you've got everything you need.

new diagnosis, who dis?
Well boys, she was a good temporary label, CFS was, but the science has finally caught up to my galaxy brain.
And that galaxy is uncharted territory.
I've got "idiopathic hypersomnia" (IH). I love when they say what they mean. Translated literally from Latin, it means "too tired (hyper+somnia) without explanation (idio+pathic)". Because it's shorter to say, will require less explanation, and the two are almost the exact same disease, I'll be referring to it at narcolepsy type 2.
There's no cure, no treatments, and few studies. The few that have been done show absolutely no improvements, and all end with "inconclusive". Long story short, nobody gets better once they get sick, usually around age 21, just like me, and it's all downhill from there.
Let's just quickly describe it for clarity. Narcolepsy 1 causes tiredness and sudden muscle paralysis or "sleep attacks" and traces back to a gene mutation that's treatable. N2 is characterized by having extreme tiredness but no paralysis, and no association with that N1 gene. You have to be sleeping an average of 10h/night (check) and have a normal-looking sleep study (check). The reason my doctor changed me from CFS to N2 is because a) he only just learned of it and b) I don't have a lot of symptoms of CFS, pretty much just the tiredness.
Practically, nothing has changed. I'm still fucking tired. But now I know there's a near-0 chance that I will ever feel awake again.
CFS patients are about 50/50 when it comes to successfully managing fatigue with medication and making life mostly "normal". A lot like depression, it can become a matter of throwing a dart at a board of drugs to try and hoping one's a bullseye eventually. Now there's no board.
So... not the best news. In fact, this is probably the worst news I've ever received. In one 45-minute phone call, any hope I had of getting better was completely obliterated.
My psychiatrist has been working with me for about 6 years. I've tried every drug under the sun for every goddamn mental illness, but there's one (1) symptom that has never, ever changed: my level of exhaustion.
While tiredness is a common feature of mental illness, every single time my psychiatrist asks what my biggest concern is, it's that I'm still tired. 10/10. I'm currently on the highest dose of Adderall and I don't have ADHD. I should be tripping on meth, but instead I'm nodding away as I type. It's a good thing I've never given into the obvious temptation of doing cocaine, because even cocaine would not make me wake up.
I've never had jet lag, but other people who have N2 find it helpful to explain that it feels like you're always living with jet lag. For me, it's like living with an anchor around my brain weighing it down. The kind of tired that just absolutely knocks you on your ass.
And it never. Ever. Ever. Goes. Away.
In many ways, I'm grateful to have found my forever diagnosis (hopefully). I scored a perfect 50/50 on the diagnostic test, and alongside what appears to be a completely normal sleep study, I'm pretty sure they've finally gotten it right. It's common enough that it's being studied, but rare enough that there's not much money in making drugs for it. So I'm extremely, extremely depressed and hopeless.
I thought one day I'd be better. I really did. I'm a pretty jaded person, but today I realized just how much holding onto that sliver of hope that I'd one day "wake up again" was keeping me together. I've always wanted to travel the world. That's out. Same with holding down a full-time job. CFS, like depression, can be hard to treat - but it's almost never impossible. Now the opposite is true. Chances are 99/100 that I won't live long enough to ever wake up rested ever again in my entire life.
If I'm not living to hopefully one day get better, what am I living for at all? I always say I can't imagine living another week/month/year of this, but I always do, because there was always that chance that the right medication was just around the corner, and my life would "begin" again.
But now, the "right drug" isn't "just around the corner" - it's stuck in traffic on the DVP West at rush hour. From the day a disease gets recognized to the day it's cured is not going to be any less than 15-20 years.
I'm seeing my family doctor (GP) in a week. At that appointment, I will be requesting a MAID evaluation. One cannot obtain legal euthenasia in Canada when you only have a mental illness, or an illness where recovery is possible. Now, I have an incurable neurological disorder with 0 quality of life.
I'm not waiting another 7 years. I'm not waiting another month. I did my time. If I'd known it was never going to change from day one, I wouldn't have bothered slogging through it. So why keep going now?
Maybe I'll stick it out a bit longer, try and experience a few things on my bucket list, but 90% of that list involved me one day being awake.
This is it. The last straw. The final card in the shitty hand I was dealt in life. Deal me out.

A Drunken Nightmare
An AU in which MC and Ethan slept together in Miami.(The morning after)
Probably the most smut I'll ever be able to write.
Warning: if you came here for smut you will be disappointed.
"A doctor who could make a difference in patient care"
"More then you already do?"
Salty air blew over the Celestial's front gate. Doctors that came to the conference were all drinking and dancing, without a care for the world. The loud dubstep beats roared from the speakers, people grinding eachother. All were there except two people.
All except a certain famous diagnostician and his rookie.
Tumblr media
Casey Valentine and Ethan Ramsey were leaning against the railing of the balcony of their shared room, looking at Ethan's drunk colleagues rave though the night just beneath them. Casey was quietly observing an individual who had caught her eyes, a young male doctor probably a second year residency, he looked about her age. Young and energetic, he was talking to a woman and from the looks of it they both were flirting with each other. Casey had a humourless smile on her face, how lucky the doctor was, where as she was stuck in between a competition, half the interns hated her and some acted like she doesn't exist. Her own friends, Jackie and Landry were dead set on trying to take her no. 1 position. At least Elijah, Sienna and Bryce treated her like a human being.
Right beside her was the one and only Ethan Ramsey, the nightmare of interns, the cold man who keeps his emotions underground, the damn asshole who Casey was in love with.
Ethan's eyes subtly stared at Casey's curves, imaging how they would feel beneath his fingers. Of course she had to wear such a sinful dress which would only give him a teaser of what her curves were, but enough to get him exited.
If she she wasn't an intern, he would be tearing it down right now.
Ethan had to tear Casey away from the bar, or she would have drunk herself to death. The whole time while he was taking her back to their room, she was giggling and swaying back and forth. But she went quiet when they were inside.
"You're awfully quiet" Ethan stated, Casey looked at him, baffled "O-oh? Just thinking." She answered.
Ethan didn't bother asking what she was thinking about, he was frozen in place. It was the first time he looked at her properly after they returned to their room, her face was red and her mouth slightly parted, her eyes reflected the stars and her bangs were messy. But yet she looked so damn beautiful.
"What do you think Naveen would say if he knew at what levels we were going to get him treated?" She broke the silence.
"He would probably first laugh, and then say we are making fools of ourselves" He said giving her a half smile. "But if he survives this, it will all be worth it"
"What you did just then was very smart, we are finally making a big progress!" She said existedly. I love it when you make that face, Ethan thought. "You mean almost losing the team on the hands of a man who only cares about money?" He said staring into her eyes.
"No I didn't mean it like that!" She said flushed. Ethan smirked, he loved seeing the flustered look on her face.
"I know"
Both of them went quiet for a while, then he decided to break the silence, "What you saw tonight wasn't me, I don't gamble on anything".
He looked into her eyes," Medicine is a assembly of facts leading to a conclusion, once you know the rules and the disease you're working with, the risk should be minimal." He turned to face her."Your decisions are informed, and you choose the safest path. But that card game…I've never done anything like that before."
Casey turned and looked at him,"I don't know, it seemed like a pretty well-informed decision to me" she stated.
"Risking Naveen's treatment on a game? Having to hope I'd judged Declan's character enough to risk losing instead of using a winning hand?" He said furiously, "There were too many variables, I could have lost everything!"
"But you were right, your risk paid off" She smiled, he loved it when she smiled like that, it was when she was reassuring a patient that she will help them, and she damn well did.
"It did…and I'm only beginning to realise…" his eyes shined with desire.
"There are some things that are worth any risk"
Both of them looked at each other, and both knew what the other wanted.
°~~~~~•~~~~~°~~~~~•~~~~~°
Casey groaned as sunlight interrupted her sleep, her whole body was hurting and for some reason her womanhood was hurting the most. Her eyes fluttered open, and she saw the sun shining right outside of the glass wall that separated the bedroom from the balcony. She just had the best dream ever.
Ethan pushes her against the bedroom wall, his right knee between her legs. Their tongues desperately met, "Dr. Ramsey!" She gasped as she felt Ethan's hand opening the zip of her dress. "Ethan" he whispered in her ears and kissed on her neck, stoping momentarily to nibble on the sensitive spots.
Casey face heated up, even for a dream it felt too real. 'It would be better if It only was a dream' she thought.
As much as she hates to admit it, she can never be with Ethan. He was an attending, she was an intern. He was her boss, she was competing to be in his team. If they were a thing, his reputation would be affected she would be told that everything she 'achieved' was because she slept with her boss. Plus…
Ethan would never see her in that way.
To him she is a newbie, a nuisance, someone that likes to stick her head in other people's business.
Casey lay there quietly for a short while, then decided to get up. As soon as she pulled the cover away, a breeze chilled her bare chest. Casey flinched, wasn't she waring her dress from last night? Where'd it go?
Ethan's fingers touch Casey's core, only a thin layer of her pantie separating them. Casey pulls Ethan on top of her she herself lay on the bed, Ethan kisses the rise of her breasts. "Mmm…" Casey softly moans as she felt Ethan's fingers enter her. "Don't…stop"she said between her shaky breaths. "I don't think I can. I have been wanting this for a long time Casey" Ethan's lips brushes past Casey's breasts, then her stomach and slowly lower…
Casey's head was spinning, memories of last night were slowly returning back to her. She was horrified.
This can't happen! It can't!
Casey looked beside her to see a shirtless Ethan sleeping soundly, he looked so peaceful probably not having a clue what they have done.
Casey got up and quickly walked towards the bathroom with wobbly steps, her legs were hurting like hell. She quietly shut the door and glanced at the mirror.
Hickeys and bite marks everywhere. How was she even going to hide this?
Tears spilled from her eyes…'why am I crying? I wanted this' she thought. She broke down, this can't be happening, not today. She was supposed to be happy that they found a possible cure for Dr. Banerji, feel proud because Dr. Ramsey trusted her. Not guilt trip because she slept with her boss.
|~~~~~•~~~~~|~~~~~•~~~~~|
Ethan's head was pounding relentless, he could only focus on Casey. Despite the raging party below them, the loud sound of waves crashing on the rocks…he could only hear Casey's voice. She was drunk talking and saying nonsensical things, but he was still encaptured by her voice. This is what shook him.
The unshakable Ethan Ramsey, the face that doctors from afar dreamt of meeting. He had only a decade's experience but yet he was one of the best doctors from around the world. He always thought that he cannot be distracted by anything or anyone. No one was truly able to crack his wall of ice, no matter how warm they were. And yet here she was, Casey Valentine an intern, clueless, novice, and trouble. She shattered the walls like they were a tower of cards, melted everything like she was the scorching sun in a summer afternoon, invaded his life like a skilled thief, and stayed as if she belongs here. Whenever he thought he knew her she would do something he least expected. She could even yell at him if she felt like he deserved it.
Never before had he been so head over heels for a woman.
But fate was against him, he was her attending, her boss, 10 years older than her. It was unprofessional, unethical, something he was against. But something he longed for. He could have anyone, but the one he wanted was out of his reach.
But yet here they are in a perfect setting. 10 floors above the ground, everyone was busy partying, they were alone, the party was so loud no one could hear them, he was drunk, she was even more drunk, if anything happens he can just blame it on the alcohol, both wanted the same thing.… Then why not have it?
Never before had Ethan broken his rules for anyone, but tonight he cannot resist any longer.
|~~~~~•~~~~~|~~~~~•~~~~~|
Casey's sobs were abruptly interrupted when she heard something from outside the bathroom, she tentatively opened the door slightly to peek, Ethan was still asleep. She snatched her bag that lay right outside the door.
Casey has never had a shower this quick, she dried her hair begging to God that Ethan will still be asleep. And just like that she was out of the room. Her eyes felt prickly, she knew that she was about to cry. How can she not? Ethan will never look at her in the same way again. He will probably only see disappointment and a mistake.
∆~~~°~~~∆~~~•~~~∆~~~°~~~∆
Ethan stirred in bed, trying to find a comfortable position. He let his hand fall off from the bed and hit the bedside table with a 'twack'. "Ouch!" His eyes abruptly opened, he immediately regretted it. Sunlight invaded his vision, and for a second he thought he was now blind. He sat up, making the sheet that was covered his taunt muscles now visible. He looked around confused, and suddenly remembered that he was in Miami. His head was killing him, he tried to recall last night's events.
'I and Casey got the formula from Nash, she went to drink at the open bar. I dragged her back into the room, we were talking…'
Then he remembered, her flustered face, her soft lips, her beautiful body…
Ethan went quiet, he knew this was coming. One way or another he was going to ruin everything. He didn't blame Casey, he couldn't.
It wasn't her fault.
It was his.
He cursed himself for being drunk, careless. Of course he would do something stupid the moment alcohol runs through his vains. He had a habit of drinking alone, the day he was drunk and alone with someone he did the unthinkable.
How many people already know? Were they too loud? Maybe they forgot to lock the door?
Ethan looked beside him to see the crumbled sheets in shape of a person, a place where Casey slept hours ago.
Does she hate him now?
•••••×•••••°•••••×•••••
"ah, Casey! Hi."
Casey heard Ines's voice behind her. "Hello Ines" Casey greeted her enthusiastic resident trying her best to sound happy,"Already had breakfast?"
"No, but me and Zaid were just on the way" Ines said happily, "Talking about Zaid…where is he" Casey asked glancing around to find the grumpy doctor. "Oh, he went to the bathroom" Ines said as both of them walked towards the Dinning Hall.
"You sure spend a lot of time around him" Casey remarked. Ines blushs, "We-well he is my friend! I like spending time with him!"
"But is that all there is to it?" Casey smiled warmly towards Ines, completely forgetting about the events that happened this morning.
"We are just friends, that's all!" Ines mumbled looking at the floor like a guilty child. "Ines, you should make a move or something. You two look cute together" Casey said to the blushing doctor.
You still have a chance, unlike me…
"Do you think…he likes me?" Ines asked so quietly it was almost inaudible, "Of course! He is like a happy puppy when he's around you" Casey laughed.
"By the way, why are you wearing a full buttoned up shirt? Isn't it hot? Ines asked curiously.
"W-well you see…"
Both of them continued walking towards the Dinning Hall.
+~~~~×~~~~+~~~~×~~~~+
Ethan quickly walked down the stairs, 'she should be in the dining hall right now'. He thought.
He came just in time to see her leave towards the elevator, "Rookie, wait!" He said loudly as he jogged towards her.
His chest tightened when he saw her face look at him in horror, the door to the elevator opened and she ran inside.
Ethan broke in a full fledged run, just as the door was about to close he smashed the elevator button. And the door opened again…

Medically Inevitable
Chapter 15:- Hopeful Happenings
Characters:- Arielle Valentine, Ethan Ramsey, Ines Delarosa, Kyra Santana
Pairing:- Ethan Ramsey x Arielle Valentine
Warnings:- Slight mentions of cancer
Word Count:- 1700+ words :)
Tumblr media
General PoV:-
As the sun shines bright in the late morning, Arielle parks her car and heads straight towards Edenbrook’s locker room, a to-go cup in hand from Starbucks instead of Derry Roasters not wanting any chance to bump into Dr. Ramsey, despite knowing that he’s her boss. Making her way to the nurses’ station, she picks up her charts and textbooks and heads toward the cafeteria.
Arielle’s PoV:-
You keep at your textbooks, scouring the pages for anything that could explain Nigel's symptoms, and the tidal wave of self-doubt doesn’t help either. You let out a sigh, "Maybe Dr. Ramsey's right. Maybe I really don't belong here..."
"Mind if I join you?" A cheery voice snaps you back to reality.
You turn around to find Kyra. Dread fills in you as you see her. "Kyra, what are you doing here? Is your cancer back? Is something wrong?", you start asking.
"Woah! Dial down the doom and gloom there, Dr. Sob Emoji. I'm in remission." Kyra beams.
"What?! Oh my god congratulations! I’m so happy for you!" You envelope her in a warm hug which almost melts all your tension away.
"Just had another check-up. Will be coming a lot for those," she catches you up with her remission plan as you two sit. "No offense but I definitely look in better shape than you!"
"Ugh I know. I'm exhausted.” And just like that, all the tension fills your mind as you give her the details. " My shift ended like five hours ago, but instead of going home I am sitting here and reading till my eyes bleed."
"You should probably get that looked at." Kyra's face morphs into something serious but genuine as she continues.
"Look, I don't want to be that cancer survivor… but it did make me realize that life is too short." You give her a sad smile knowing how painful it must have been for her.
"We only get so many chances you know? But maybe you need that lesson more than I do," she continues after pausing for a moment.
"Is it that obvious?" You raise your brows.
"Let's chalk it up to my incredible intuition." Kyra smiles," Anyways there's an amazing ice cream shop nearby. They make an triple chocolate gelato that's literally to die for," she jokes, " You can take my word for that." "Why don't we visit that place? It'll give you a distraction and a much needed break."
You look at her and then your textbooks, not understanding what to do. All you can see is blurry lines. the words and concepts swim around in your very exhausted brain. You close the textbook with a slam after your answer is crystal clear.
"How can I say no to chocolate gelato!", you say dramatically.
"That's more like it!", Kyra beams. The two of you collect your belongings and make your way out as you tell Kyra everything about the dilemma with your latest patient.
"This place is pretty cute.", you say as you look around.
"Try nauseatingly adorable. I want to make it tiny and keep it in my bookshelf," Kyra replies. You laugh.
"You collect tiny shops?" You ask as the two of you made your way to the counter.
"I collect many sickeningly adorable things," she laughs before turning her attention to the boy behind the counter. "I’ll have the large Death by Chocolate please. And my absurdly attractive friend here will have…”, she nods for you to continue.
You roll your eyes at her before placing your order. You take a look at their menu before deciding to have the same one as Kyra as it's the most chocolatey one.
“I'll have the same.", you smile at the server.
The server scoops your gelato into two big cups and slides them across the counter while Kyra rummages through her bag for her wallet.
"I'll pay.“, you say getting your card out.
"No way!", she stops you by swiftly taking your card from you. You whine but to your dismay she doesn’t budge.
"This was my idea. Besides I didn't get out much during recovery. I've got months of dining-out budget to blow."
The next minute she's handing the cash to the server and then guiding you to a booth. As you two take your seats, Kyra hands you your card.
She takes a spoon full of her Death by Chocolate and sighs blissfully.
“Mmmmmm…”
You smile at her antics. "That good?" You ask before taking a bite.
"Orgasmic. I never used to eat junk food before my diagnosis."
She takes another bite and you take your first. You can't help but let out a moan as the chocolatey silkiness melts on your tongue. Kyra smirks and gives you a smug look.
She then continues, "I was super into exercising and calorie counting. I never did anything I wasn't supposed to." She smiles sadly. "And I still got lung cancer. At my twenties!"
"You must have been so strong!", you reply.
"Everyone keeps saying that but-", she pauses, "I don't know. I just went to the doctor to see why I was breathing weird."
She sighs. "Then suddenly I was going for all these tests, and then I had cancer."
She laughs humorlessly. "Life went from jogging and juice every morning to chemo and puking."
You can almost feel the pain as she speaks about her experiences even when you’re aware you’ll never truly understand.
"But I didn't do anything," she says, " Those things had to happen , and I had good insurance, so I did them. And it's not like I had any alternative."
"I think you should give yourself more credit.”, you reach for her hand and squeeze it in a comforting manner.
"You faced death with a smile on your face. I'll always remember you cracking jokes on the way to surgery-", you stop for a second before adding,"You are the strongest person I know Kyra."
Kyra blushes, a little embarrassed. "Well you can laugh or you can cry and I chose to laugh.”, she shrugs with a smile on her face.
"And like I said, I don't want to be that cancer survivor but it does put certain things into perspective."
"That kind of clarity must be nice.", you reply.
"Well yeah, you have to get some kind of consolation price for nearly dying, right?" She then shakes her head.
”But enough about that. If we keep talking about this you'll always see me as a girl who beat cancer."
"I'll never, Kyra." you say truthfully. "That's not how I see you."
"Oh yeah? And how do you exactly see me?" She asks playfully.
"I think you are inspiring."
A blush creeps on her face as she’s caught off guard, but quickly retaliates with a sassy reply. “If you keep giving me compliments then I’ll never let you hear the end of it.”
“We’ll see about that.” You both dissolve into fits of laughter as Kyra fills you up on the hospital gossip...
“What wait?! Seriously?! I can’t believe it!”
“Me either, but you know how gossip is!”, she replies with a shrug.
Just then your phone chimes. You pull it out to see it’s a reminder for your shift.
“Crap, I have 10 minutes till my shift.”
“Oof, you better hurry!”, she replies.
“We should do this again, this was really nice.”, you say as you gather your things.
“We should! Besides there would have to be 12 different things wrong with someone to turn down Gelato!”, she jokes.
“..12 different things wrong….. oh my god, Kyra, you’re a genius!”
You scramble to your feet and quickly throw away your cup.
“I like to think I am but what did I do?”, she asks.
“I’ll explain later!”, you yell.
“Ookay…” You rush back to the hospital, typing out a message on your pager as Kyra sits there in utter confusion.
“Well I guess I could get another scoop of gelato…”
————————————————————
An hour later, you take a deep breath before entering Nigel's room to find Ethan and Ines already inside.
“Well what are you waiting for?”, Dr. Ramsey says. Pushing back all of your invading memories of him, you continue with your explanation.
"I spent the last two days trying to figure out the one thing causing all of Mr.Platt's symptoms.”, you say as you stand beside Nigel's bedside.
"And?", he asks. For a split second, you can see a slight look of hope in his eyes, but it passes as quickly as it came, leaving you to believe it was a mere delusion of yours.
"That's when I realized nothing was causing all of them-" But before you can continue, you’re interrupted by Nigel.
"Are you calling-", he burps, “me a liar?", he asks, rude as always.
You control the urge to roll your eyes. He could've at least let you finish your sentence.
Ignoring him, you continue what you were saying," Mr.Platt has been experiencing tingling and hair loss but also cold sensitivity and some hearing problems." You pause for a second before continuing,"All of which point to hypothyroidism caused by Hashimoto's disease easily treated with levothyroxine."
"Go on." Ethan orders in his usual cold bossy tone.
"I couldn't fit in the constant burping and the chest pain… because it was completely separate." You explain. "I ordered a barium swallow X-ray and detected a hiatal hernia in the esophageal hole through the diaphragm."
"The treatment?", he asks, motioning you to continue.
"I have already booked a laparoscopic surgery to repair it.”, you answer with a touch of pride.
"Good work Dr.Valentine." Ines smiles at you.” You return it with a nod and a tentative smile.
"So ... I'll be cured?" Nigel asks.
"Yes-“, you calm yourself down before you rip him apart and then continue.
"You'll be good as new." you say instead with a forced smile.
"Good... because I don't want to spend a -" he burps, " second more in your hopeless company."
Your blood boils at this point as you bite your lip to control yourself. “The audacity! Ugh, he's a patient, Arielle. You have to be nice to him.”
"Mr. Platt, might suggest viewing this as a new lease on life. Perhaps a life where you don't make everyone around you miserable.”, Ethan's stern voice retorts, shocking you and Ines.
“No way...he did not!”
"Dr. Ramsey!" Ines exclaims with a shocked expression on her face, which you’re quite sure your face resembles.
"I'll report you! I want to talk to your manager," he says more angrily than before.
"Go ahead," Ethan says with a sarcastic smile." Maybe she can't talk to you like this but I sure as hell can."
You look at Nigel who looks like he's about to say something but just then Bryce struts in. He winks at you playfully as he passes you.
"Someone called for a laparoscopic surgery?"
"Oh great, first Barbie and now the damn Ken doll!” You don’t even attempt to hide the disgust on your face as you roll your eyes.
By the time you’ve finished your consultation with Bryce, Ines and Ethan have already left the room. Pleased with yourself, you take a left in the hallway without noticing Ethan standing leaning against the wall.
"Rookie..." His velvety baritone voice calls out, pulling you out of a haze.
Wincing, you stop dead in your tracks as the memories of the previous day replay in your mind. Still embarrassed with your encounter, you turn around but never meet his eyes. You’re sure you look like a kid, standing before him with your feet crossed, one hand fiddling with your hair as you bite your lip.
"So, you figured it out in the end. And you kept things professional.”, he nods, barely visible.
"I guess I just needed a… push.”, you reply in a timid voice laced with embarrassment.
"Maybe you aren’t so hopeless then.", he says.
Unlike yesterday, his voice isn’t filled with disappointment and malice.
So mustering up some courage, you look up to meet his eyes. Relief washes over you as you don’t detect a hint of disappointment in his eyes. He isn’t smiling but something in you tells you he isn’t angry. You don’t realise you’ve been staring into his oh-so blue eyes until his pager beeps, shaking you out of your reverie.
“..Uh- I’ll see you around, Dr. Ramsey.” You can almost swear that you see longing etched into his chiseled features as you lose yourself in his eyes once more.
“Likewise, Valentine.” With that, he turns around and stalks away.
You sigh and lean against the wall, the events since you started your residency swirl around like a hurricane filled with memories.
“What the hell am I supposed to do now?”

Hello, may I be able to be matched up? I love your work and I mean all of it, it's really amazing. Keep it up bestie!
Appearance: I have gingerish red hair which reaches up to my chest, I have Heterochromia(it's where you have two different eye colours it's not that bad though) which means I have one eye hazle and the other one brown you can't tell the difference. I am a living stick but I am strong I swear.
Personality: my mom says that I'm the kindest soul on planet but I think overwise, my friends say I'm talkative but quite at times, I took a personality quiz a couple of days ago and got ENFP-T.
Style: I love cottagecore! I dress in long dresses when the weather is nice, but when the weather isn't nice then pants and a shirt will do, sometimes I wear goodies but that's rare. (my country is hot which is annoying sometimes also if it gets cold I do wear hoodies woot ;>;)
Random facts: Pan/Demisexual, I have Maladaptive daydreaming, I usually don't get stressed by anything but when someone who's close to me gets hurt (tripping over, getting hit e.g.) I will get overwhelmed. I can get annoyed when you push my buttons but I'll apologise quickly if I shout at the person.
Likes: Nature, Taking long thoughtful walks, Talking to friends/family, helping others.
Dislikes: people bossing others around, creeps, people getting a small cut or something worse (I'm gonna cure you even if it doesn't hurt or isn't that bad you getting a treatment like it or not!)
Have a good day!:3
Aww thanks and Yes you may bestie!
I pair you with:
Liu Woods
-he loves your eyes. He can tell the difference and he can stare for hours.
-he agrees with your mom saying that you have the kindest soul. Because to him you do.
-sometimes your talking can overwhelm him if it's too much at once but he tries his best to listen constantly
-theres nothing that this boy would love to settle down in a cottage somewhere and be away from society and to live a quiet peaceful life
-he likes your dresses. They're so soft
-if you're maladaptive daydreaming he'll wait for to come out of it before asking you if you're okay.
-he tries to not get hurt as much because he hates to see you freak out.
-he will always forgive you if you tell at him.
-this boy could take hikes in the woods for hours and talk to you as well. That's how you would spend the majority of your time together.
-hes so lucky to have a s/o who is so thoughtful to help others
-he hates being told what to do
-he hates over all grimy sleezeball people
I hope you like this and feel free to ask again!

Tumblr media
My second post in the same day - I think I'm being too excited about this 😆. But either way, I'm thrilled to be sharing about my absolute favourite trilogy! I hope you feel the same way once you give it a read too!
A trilogy includes 3 books, and the 3 books that make up the Dark Matter Trilogy are:
- Contagion
- Deception
- Evolution
Let's dive into the synopsis and my opinions of each book!
Tumblr media
Contagion
An epidemic is sweeping the country. Almost everyone will be infected. Almost everyone will die. . . Young teen Callie was one of the rare few to survive the disease after being subjected to the so-called treatment. She was kidnapped and experimented upon at a secret lab that works with antimatter. When she breaks free of her prison, she unleashes a wave of destruction–the contagion. Meanwhile her older brother, Kai, is looking for her. And his smart new friend Shay may hold the key to uncovering what truly happened–Shay was the last to see Callie alive. The problem is getting past the soldiers at the quarantine zone boundaries. But even when reunited the teens must find the source of disease. Could Callie have been part of an experiment in biological warfare? Who is behind the research? Is there a cure?
This book is not one of my favourites for no reason. Firstly, the gripping, well-planned plots will make you go "Oh!" in astonishment when you read on. The character chemistry will definitely wreck your heart when you reach the unexpected twists. The cliffhangers, oh the cliffhangers! So beautifully written, making readers ever so frustrated. Teri Terry unleashes her talent once again in this book, making this a trilogy not to be missed. It makes me a little disappointed to see the little recognition this trilogy gets. Whenever I search it up, all I get is the 2002 movie, Contagion, or the Netlfix series, Dark Matter. Let's make Teri Terry more well known!
Tumblr media
Deception
What if everyone you love was snatched away or permanently changed? The sci-fi mystery deepens in Deception, book 2 of the Dark Matter trilogy, as teens Kai and Shay search for answers and each other. Shay believes she is a carrier of a deadly disease. She survives the “Aberdeen flu” only to surrender herself to the government and unwillingly become a test subject in an effort to find a cure. With the help of the mysterious Dr. Alex Cross, Callie’s father, Shay and other survivors will attempt to escape. Meanwhile, a heartbroken Kai joins up with the lovely Freja who is also being hunted because of her special abilities; they race to find Shay before vigilante hunters find her first. Kai’s sister, Callie, continues to hide a secret–she is the true carrier, and her goal is to find the man who killed her and make him pay. As they fight for survival, loyalties are tested. Is Callie who she says she is? Should Shay trust Alex, the man her mother ran away from–a man Kai hates? Will Kai forgive Shay for her betrayal? Only one thing is certain: they are stronger together.
Deception is my favourite book in the trilogy, as well as my favourite book out of all the books I've read! The various perspectives, and the lack of a certain character's perspective, will make you go crazy, yearning to know more. A beautiful, heartbreaking, mind-blowing sequel to Contagion, you won't rest in peace after reading Contagion, without being able to devour Deception. The title of this book says it all. Deception. Surely, it's all about lies, right? I mean, of course it is, but just how hard will they hit you? And are you prepared to go through more emotional trauma? Oh, and this might be a teeny weeny spoiler, but, if you're a Potterhead, I guarantee you'll be meeting someone much, much worse than Umbridge.

Evolution
Now available in paperback, Evolution is the the thrilling conclusion to the Dark Matter Trilogy: a showdown between Shay and her father brings this sci-fi trilogy to a satisfying close. Shay has left Kai once again by following Alex to his Multiverse compound. Her goal is to find the real Callie, but Shay discovers that the younger girl has no memory of her past. Their best hope is to leave the community. While Shay pretends to be a devoted follower, Alex makes his own plans to use Shay to spread the epidemic he caused. The few survivors will be only those who evolve special abilities and are worthy of building a new society with Alex as leader. The opportunistic Freja further poisons Kai’s memories of his girlfriend. Angry and hurt, Kai doubles down on his mission to reveal that his former stepfather is behind the epidemic, but he has little luck convincing the authorities–until it’s almost too late to save Shay from a fate worse than death.
I'll hate this book for as long as I live. But I'll also love this book for as long as I live. The plot in this book, as well as the way Terry writes it is so convincing, so flawless, that when you reach the end, you'll want to scream. Everything seems to be looking up, everything's going smoothly, everyone's safe, and BAM! Backstabbing and blood. It's a goddamn emotional rollercoaster! But the worse-than-Umbridge character I mentioned earlier gets her (yes, it's a she - why are all the cunning villains women?) just desserts. Not so bad after all, huh? I personally feel that the ending is a little too rushed, but that may be because I didn't understand Kai's part too well. Either way, it's a rather satisfactory ending to the whole trilogy!
Now, I can't just comment on Teri Terry's books without letting my favourite author get some publicity, can I? So, here are the links to her official website, her Goodreads account and her Facebook account.
Thanks for putting up with my rants 😘. I look forward to your comments on the Dark Matter Trilogy as well!
