So I was thinking further about the issue at the heart of this post regarding how a lot of the audience is put off or puzzled by Achi's way of conducting himself in relation to Karan, how he seems too reserved, low-energy, or minimally invested in their relationship. I've been thinking on another circumstance that I think influences it beyond the issues I had talked about in my post.
At the beginning of our story, Achi seems to be completely adjusted to a life without romantic love or sexual relationships. When reminded of cultural expectations about all the necessary milestones for men his age, he does feel insecure and unhappy about falling short, but beyond that he probably doesn't spend an awful lot of time in a headspace where he would contemplate romance and sex at a deeper more emotion-based level. I think support for this idea is that he only made an attempt at instigating a romantic relationship (bringing coffee to a colleague) when he was feeling insecure about turning 30. When he overheard her saying essentially that he was undateable, his sadness came more from what he saw as confirmation that he was too boring to be loved rather than the loss of a potential relationship.
Achi's baseline seems to be that he doesn't spend significant time thinking about romance in relation to himself, not with good emotions - he thinks about romance mostly in terms of being a measure of failure and a gauge of character (no person has wanted to even kiss me, so I must really be an unappealing and unremarkable person) - completely detached from what makes love what it is, an incredible feeling of adoration, comfort, safety, etc. At the beginning of the story, Karan's role in his life is solely as a model of what he should be and a daily reminder that, from Achi's point of view, he is not talented, smart, unique, driven, handsome, or likable enough to reach the milestones that Karan has.
Because Achi doesn't invest much in romance, and because the idea of being in a relationship with someone as perfect as Karan is so ludicrous as to be inconceivable to him, there is absolutely zero connection in his mind between the idea of Karan and the idea of romance at the point in time when he discovers that Karan thinks about him in romantic terms near constantly. At the heart of the struggle is Achi needing to transform his view of his worth as a human being, so that he can truly give credence to the concept of he and Karan genuinely being in love with each other.
But something that I think is being overlooked is that Achi has a huge mental and emotional task in transforming how he views Karan. He needs to dismantle the idea of Karan being an idol - a model to aspire to, envy, and resent for his effortless perfection - and reposition this new, real Karan into a romantic and sexual context. That is a very layered, intricate task that can only be worked on by spending more and more time with Karan.
It is funny, though, how often idol worship bleeds into romantic yearning. We've heard Achi say some spin on Karan being the most perfect, most handsome, most prized, most kind and considerate man in the world over a dozen times. The root feelings are there - he just needs to weed out the negative thoughts and emotions that he's associated with Karan for seven long years, and try to view him as a real person with love and desire for him instead of some abstract ideological concept of male perfection.
That would be an arduous process for anyone, but especially for Achi, who thinks he has no instinct for love and desire, and zero experience to draw from. This fact coupled with his abysmal view of himself means that Achi is receiving and synthesizing Karan's overtures at a glacial pace, slow to react and completely unsure about what's right and wrong or what's normal and strange. And, really, he's just getting used to being a person who talks to another person with no masks or airs. He's realizing that he actually can offer words and thoughts from his inner self, out loud -- and that he has an avid, invested, passionate listener in Karan.
Randomly - one of my favorite illustrations of this whole thing is Achi sitting audience to Karan as he's soaking himself in water, and Achi is just...completely silent, hypnotized, deeply studious but also smiling unconsciously from some good feeling he's getting from seeing Karan like this. I was so proud of him for that moment, like yesssss the flames of physical desire are being fanned! You gawk at that boy, Achi!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyways I sort of think of it like one of those pictures that changes depending on the angle and distance you're viewing it from. From far away and a profoundly unhappy angle, Karan is the perfect man that Achi will never be. when he moves in close and tilts his head back upright, Karan is now a beautiful, complex, flawed man that is deeply in love with him and inspires those same feelings in return. Achi just has to get himself to that place.

How to be a Jock Ch.7: Work
Tumblr media
(ID:https://www.instagram.com/fitbidlan/?hl=en)
You don’t need a work-life balance when your work is your life. The Jock derives joy from performance. From success and objective measures of victory and hard fucking work.
For a jock their paycheck and the numbers they pull in for their job are as much a thrilling rush as their days crushing skulls on the court. The line just gets higher. That’s all they care about. Coming in an hour early and leaving only when they’ve given 110%. A real company man through and through. Winning promotion after promotion, award beyond measure.
They’ll smile for their “Best quarterly earner” photo, but inside it’s a different story. An almost psychotic drive. Fiery passion and bloodlust mixed with frigid calm and efficiency. Willing to do anything, step on anyone’s back to get to the top of the ladder and then kick it down after them. Because unlike most of the other worker drones, they aren’t working for someone else; not really. They might have a boss but they are basically interchangeable. Just a place filler while the Jock climbs their way to the top. Maybe a source of hatred and vitriol, or perhaps being a cause for inspiration and aspiration. But ultimately just another enemy. Another obstacle to be broken in half and left on the field.
*Subtle demonic whispers here*
Take Karan for example. A young up-and-comer in the Avis Athletics Agency. Scouted from university specifically after the recruiting agent saw him take down a guy twice his weight on the wrestling mat in a minute flat. Dude never broke a sweat, every second with that soft but piercing glare of absolute victory. Like his opponent was just an object to be manipulated for his own pleasure and purpose. He didn't let go of that Death grip until the Ref shook off his astonishment and counted the poor jobber out. A perfect fit for an internship at our illustrious corporation.
He’s such a good team player too. Practically integrated with all of the other interns and made them into a single unit. A well-oiled regiment that followed orders and executed them with deadly efficiency. Best Copy-and-coffee squad the office has ever had. But of course, Karan was never satisfied. He plays his work like a game. Just another sport to break records with. Get the high score at one level, move on to the next, collect all of the rewards, leave destruction in your wake.
The CEO saw him wait around until his team member clocked out, only to kick his fucking teeth in in the parking lot for holding him back on his reports. It was decided that his talents would be better served at a higher level. One where that drive and deadly commitment to efficiency could make some real profit. That and the HR policies covered actual employees better than interns. So he got the job, no question. Along with a well negotiated 6 figure starting salary with stock options later down the line. Plus access to the 24 hour boxing gym on site so we could make sure we keep those interns for a little bit longer.

Dancing On Your Heartstrings
Chapter 15
Raghav POV
Raghav stared at the unsaved contact on his phone. He tried to remember if he had given out his number to anyone recently, but no one came to mind. Hesitantly, he swiped up.
"Hello! Raghav, right?"
"...Yes?"
"Hi, it's me, Karan. Remember me?"
Karan. Yes. Yes he did remember. He had helped bring Ranveer to the studio when Raghav asked him to, in return for which Raghav missed three classes the next day and assisted him in staging a prank on his brothers. Raghav also owed him a favour for keeping his mouth shut in front of Ranveer.
"Haan, bata kya hua."
"If I remember correctly, Little Mr Patil owes me a favour."
The mischief in his voice scared Raghav more than he would like to admit. There were only twenty minutes left until his practice with Ranveer. It better not be something excessive. "Of course I do. Kya chahiye?"
"Mujhe Shabana's Cafe se chicken momos laake de. Two plates."
Thank god, that was easy enough. If you knew anything about those triplets, you would know not to be in their debt. Ever
"Thik hai. Mujhe apna address Whatsapp kar. Main lata hu," said Raghav.
"Jaldi laio. Ranveer se mangaye the abhi tak nahi laya."
Ranveer. Gosh, being around the boy did things to Raghav that he wasn't sure he liked. It was frustrating, but it was also comforting. His face would heat up at every stolen glimpse of brown skin, every time Ranveer's shirt would lift up even a little bit during his stretches, but it always left him eager for the sight one more time.
Whenever Ranveer replied to his shameless flirting with a sarcastic flirt back, he would feel like a hamster was doing cartwheels in his intestines. (Because what he felt was much lower in the abdomen and much, much less innocent than 'butterflies in the stomach')
But it also hurt. It hurt being around Ranveer knowing he could joke around and flirt back and tease all he wanted but he could never truly like Raghav in the way Raghav wanted. Hell, he didn't even like Raghav in general most of the time. It was the whirlwind of brushing limbs and snarky comments and small smiles that lit a fire in Raghav's heart. If he didn't learn to control the flames, he might burn himself alive very soon.
He shoved his feet into his shoes, deciding to walk instead of taking his car. It would waste time, but he needed to clear his head. "Thik hai, abhi lata hu. Bye."
The worst of it all was the hope, Raghav realised as he started the walk on the street. What was he even hoping for? Another surprised laugh from Ranveer? Another victorious smile from him as they effortlessly rehearsed the choreography? Or was he hoping for Ranveer to run up to him and tell him he loves him and kiss his stupid face? Was he hoping for love or yearning for an impossibility?
Curse this damned hope.
Raghav reached Shabana's Cafe and mindlessly ordered two plates of chicken momos. He was surprised that Ranveer was the one who got late in bringing them. The boy was so punctual, after all. That was one of the things Raghav liked about him. But Raghav liked it when he broke character too; when the carefully crafted discipline slipped away to reveal the raw humanness underneath.
He didn't want to think about Ranveer anymore, so he looked around the cafe. A bunch of girls, all in different shades of pink, crowding the table by the window caught his attention first. Then a group of four boys on the table beside the counter. They were laughing over something, until the South Indian looking guy accidentally spilled his coffee on the guy wearing a pagg. The Sikh guy cursed him out -in pure Punjabi- as the waitress tried to be polite while furiously telling them to calm down. The guy sat back down with a guilty expression mirroring the one of the South Indian guy.
Raghav would have laughed, if only he hadn't lost his voice. Because when a face amidst the onlookers of the fiasco caught his eye, the breath left his lungs.
Ranveer was sitting there, smiling like he had everything he ever wanted. He was chatting with someone -a girl- and seemed so content in himself that it made Raghav's heart speed up.
He had this look in his eyes, filled with an easy and casual intimacy that Raghav was so frightened of, that made it impossible to look in his direction anymore.
Because he wasn't looking at Raghav.
Because he was looking at someone else.
Because he was looking at someone who wasn't Raghav and never could be.
Yet Raghav couldn't tear his eyes away. The girl said something shocking -probably, not that Raghav could hear them- and Ranveer's features formed into a surprised oh.
Whenever Raghav said anything surprising, he furrowed his brow in suspicion. Raghav liked that, until now.
He wondered if he would ever get that look of comfort from Ranveer. He wondered if he would ever get over that look of comfort.
Fuck this. Raghav needed to get a grip. Ranveer was straight. Ranveer liked girls. Ranveer had girls he could sit with at cafes and talk about probably things like the future and marriage and how many fucking kids they wanted to have.
That might have been immature. She might have just been a friend. Who the fuck knew? Not Raghav certainly. And it was making him insane.
"Oh bhaiya," a voice called from behind him. He turned to the counter, where the lady had put the momos. With one last look at Ranveer, Raghav took the bag containing the two plastic boxes and bolted through the door.
The sight of Ranveer smiling at that girl was burned through his eyelids. His eyes stung with the oncoming of tears, the back of his throat tightened and Raghav wanted to scream.
He wanted to go up to Ranveer and scream that he loved him and that it felt like a thousand needles plunging into his heart when he was mad at him and that he didn't fucking care if it ruined their friendship, he just needed to get the words out.
But he did, didn't he? He cared too fucking much.
He bumped into someone. He knew he was fighting off tears. If he spoke, it would come out as a sob. So instead of saying sorry, he righted himself and walked away.
A hand grabbed his shoulder. The man spat out a filthy slur and jerked him around.
Raghav swore as he recognized who he bumped into. "What the fuck do you want, Ayush?"
"List bana ke du?" Ayush snarled.
Raghav's blood was boiling in his veins. He did not have the fucking energy to pretend he didn't care about anything. He took a step towards Ayush and said, "Thik hai. De list. Us sab ke sath mera revenge bhi laake de dunga, okay?"
Ayush grabbed his collar harshly, the joints of his fingers digging into Raghav's throat. "Kis baat ka revenge, saale? Pehle to tune mujhe competition main nahi aane diya. Jab maine dubara try kiya tab bhi tu us Ranveer ke peeche pada tha. Aur abhi mujhe dhakka bhi tune diya."
It was hard to breathe. Raghav refused to gasp for air. He should just… no. He wasn't fucking scared of Ayush. He wasn't eighteen anymore. He pushed Ayush off him. "Apni ladai to usse bohot purani hai, Ayush. You were the one who pushed me into the fountain and outed me in front of the whole courtyard."
"Outed? You mean maine sabko teri sacchai bata di? We both know you're a fucking faggot. Tabhi to us Ranveer ke peeche kutto ki tarah bhaagta rehta hai-"
Raghav should have just walked away. Raghav should have let him talk about his bullshit by himself. But that wasn't what Raghav did.
There was an itch in his fist and teeth he wanted to break.
• • •
Ranveer's face was the first thing Raghav saw when he opened his eyes. They were both on his bed, Ranveer was holding his wrist in one hand, and it seemed to Raghav that all his teenage fantasies had come true.
Then reality crashed in.
Typical.
"Who did this to you?" Ranveer's voice was livid. Raghav's wrist hurt like hell at the joint where he had grabbed it. "What were you fucking thinking, Raghav?"
Raghav recalled the things that had happened. He had a fight with Ayush. On the streets. Because… because he was already crying. He was crying because he'd seen Ranveer with a girl.
"Why do you care?" he said.
Ranveer looked one millisecond away from slapping him. "Why do I care? Why do I care!? Raghav the competition is in two days."

Heyy could you write a Hosea x reader where reader is Dutch’s daughter (around like John’s age so that’s like 25/26 I think) and she’s had a crush on Hosea for quite a while thinking it would pass but it only grew more over the time and people around camp tease her about it. But Hosea is completely oblivious to her feelings and she never tells him because she’s sure that he only sees her as a kid. Or she tells him/he finds out if you’re comfortable with writing that.
Tumblr media
Hosea Matthews x GN!Reader
Summary: Request up top!
Warnings: Fluff, Love Confession
Tumblr media
Sitting up on your bed roll, you watched the camp wake up. Looking around, you noticed Hosea drinking coffee at one of the tables. The warm morning sun shining on him made you stare as his hair glowed in the light, but the voice of Karan made you jump. "Just go and talk to him already." Turning to see her still lying in bed, you rolled your eyes.
Yeah, just go tell him. I'm sure Dutch won't kill him." Tilly joined in, making even Mary-Beth laugh, causing you to get up and change. Walking from your side of the camp, you move to help Pearson with the coffee.
Being Dutch's kid, you didn't need to do anything, but forbid you ever acted like Molly. As much as you miss sitting around and reading, you can't stand the women.
"You need help with that." A familiar voice you dreaded hearing this morning was Hosea walking to you as you grabbed the pot being done with coffee. Not having a chance to say anything, he helped you with his warm hands as you walked over to Pearson's table.
"Thank you," You said nervously, looking up at his kind brown eyes, "I'll go find Pearson; he shouldn't leave you to do all the work." He says that, then walks away, leaving your cheek hot. You turn and smile, knowing someone is looking out for you.
Making it back to your tent, you sat, seeing no one was around, and pulled out a book you and Mary found on your trips to town a year ago, It was hidden, not wanting any of the other girls to dog on you for wanting a little romance in your lives. Reading the pages, you couldn't shake the feeling of someone watching, looking up with the same kind eyes that met yours.
Hosea smiles at you and then starts walking toward you. "What are you reading?" He asks, looking at your book while pulling up a small chair. "Oh, it's just a romance," You say, tucking the book next to you. "A romance? What is it about?" He asks, looking interested, "Just a gunslinger and a rich girl" You say embarrassed, especially when he laughs. "It seems this life never really leaves you." His words make you laugh with him.
Yeah, especially when everything you want is here." His eyebrows perked up. "If you have your eyes on someone, I can put in a good word." You go quiet at his words, then remember what the girls said this morning: "Yeah sure, but..." "But nothing comes on." chewing on your lip, finally the words come out: "It's you".

Another week, another Cherry Magic Thailand review!!!
Okay, let me preface by saying my expectations going into this week’s episode was lower than usual. Now you might be wondering why that is (no one probably is but let me pretend), I made the mistake of reading a thread before I started the episode and I saw someone say that the episode felt like it dragged.
So while I went in kind of iffy, it’s safe to say that this episode did not disappoint.
‼️ SPOILER ALERT: STOP READING IF YOU HAVENT WATCHED AND DONT WANT TO BE SPOILED FOR EP 7 ‼️
Karan is the standard, the greenest of green flags. I love him. I want someone to treat me like he does Achi. The fact he based his whole date around one throwaway comment Achi made about how watching the sunrise and sunset with him is special, I’M SO SOFT. The jacket? The personal coffee shop? The whole helicopter ride? Ugh perfection. I also love that once Achi told him he’s not comfortable with certain parts of the date, Karan instantly made it known that all he cares about is having the perfect date with him. AND HE WANTS TO TELL HIS FRIEND WHAT THEY ARE AND DONT WANT ACHI TO REGRET SAYING YES TO DATES.
I also have to say I really love Jinta, not only is he so adorable with Min (I will come back to this I promise) but also he’s such a good friend to Achi. When Achi told Jinta how he felt, he gave him the most real and sincere advice… be honest with Karan. And Achi did just that, he told Karan how he didn’t feel comfortable with Karan buying him the jacket, and that he’s afraid of heights. The conversation was such good demonstration of healthy communication fr.
Back to Min and Jinta, the whole cafe scene??? I’m literally squealing. I love how Jinta realized that he doesn’t have to read Min's mind to learn what he likes and instead can just ask him. And then immediately applying what he learned AND helping his friend with the same advice? Yessir I love Jinta!! Also jinta is cute with and without glasses… 😩
OH AND KARAN AND ACHI ARE BOYFRIENDS NOW??? HELLO IM SCREAMING. I am Pai, Pai is me. She’s so real for loving them. Anyways I’m super satisfied with this episode and I’m so excited for next week’s.
About next week’s episode, I’m nervous. I can’t believe there’s a no dating rule at the office BOOOOOO. Looks like Pai and Dujdao are eavesdropping/ find out about it too. The preview makes it look like the boss disapproves but I’m hoping it’s fake… he’s actual a shipper okay guys? He literally told me personally. (delulu is the solulu okay)! But also Karan saying “let me prove it” gave me butterflies. I’m so excited and I’m honestly so happy with the way the story is progressing.

I was tagged twice! So I'm legally obligated to do this!
Tag game: tag 9 people you’d like to get to know better
Tagged by: @snowrassa and @queer-ragnelle
Last song: Ireland's 2024 Eurovision entry which (plot twist!?!?!) genuinely fucks so hard
Currently watching: My cat grooming herself in the window hammock
Three ships: Ummmm... if we go by ships that took up the greatest proportion of brainspace over the course of my life, it's probably Hector/Andromache, Phoenix/Edgeworth, and whatever Arthuriana flavored loyalty kink/wretched betrayal!!! scenario those girls have going on in Dreamcatcher's Deja Vu video.
Favorite color: Genuinely gray or silver. Occupation hazard of designing maps for work. I find ESRI's black and gray basemaps very visually soothing even when I'm uploading point data it and it automatically gives them these weird orange-red dots that are pretty ugly
Currently consuming: The coffee I just drank is converting to energy I guess?
First Ship: I think it was Zelda/Link in Ocarina of Time. My middle school self was just dumfounded by the epilogue where it pauses on them meeting for the first time again. Just totally flabbergasted and heartbroken that omg OG Zelda essentially annihilated herself by resetting time. Meanwhile Link is back in a happier past where he's the ONLY ONE who experienced all that horror. Even past Zelda is shut out of all that! I wanted the Zelda and Link who'd been through all that to find their way to each other again. And maybe kiss about it.
Relationship status: Single and ready to mingle /Karan Johar voice
Last movie: I think it was genuinely Sword in the Stone for the group watch. Really epic of that movie to just like... stop. Woops, if I waited until the evening to do this I could have said Past Lives!. ETA: HOW DID I FORGET I WATCHED NIGHT OF THE HUNTER YESTERDAY????
Currently working on: Two megamix projects. One is of the idol songs that spent the most time at number one in Korea in 2023. The other is a gidle megamix but I've been waiting to see the key signatures for the new songs at the end of January
Tagging: @lilyavara @onetrueharem @ladytaetae @amarguerite @ponydeathisland @targaryeirene @bookslifeandeverythingelse @aethelflaedel @bonos-grindcore-sideproject
