I’ll never get over how much they whitewashed Jorah for the show like in the books he’s a predatory creep and his obsession with Daenerys is way more akin to Littlefinger’s obsession with Sansa, whereas in this show he’s written as this genuine nice guy whose love for Daenerys is so pure, and you can tell the show wanted us to sympathize with him because Dany didn’t reciprocate his feelings.
If you want to know what's at the core of Jorah's character, re-read the passage in AGOT where he expresses absolutely no remorse for slaving and just shrugs it off. Then read ACOK after he's fallen for Dany and knows she hates slavery: suddenly he pours his heart out about his wicked shallow wife and how SHE'S the reason he even got into slaving, which he hated so much but had to because of love. AND SHE LOOKED A LOT LIKE YOU, DAENERYS.
Set the whole man on fire, Khaleesi.

He felt the hand distance them. Her words pushed them further apart and he knew what he had done to her had started the push in the first place. Viserys had reflected night after night on what should have been his death day, the look on Daenerys face was the last thing he saw when he awoke in a sweat, screaming out for her. For mercy. “No.You’re right. It’s a fools errand.” He whispered as he made a face, acknowledging his wants would never come to fruition. “Yet you still allowed me in when you saw I was alive....You could have killed me easily. Been rid of me, of the pain. Hurt me in ways you’ve proboblay dreamt of.”
He found his voice a bit stronger as he took a few steps back, giving her more room. “I treasured you in the wrong way growing up, both of us, a child raising a child. I should have held you close not sold you off for an army. I should have looked out for you better, after you better. Is there anything I can do now that will have you feel I've atoned for my past? Or shall it always hang over us?” He asked, his lilac eyes glassy with emotion stared at his sister, the beauty that kept looking more and more like the faint images of their mother. His lips twitched to one side as he walked towards the window of the pyramid and looked out at the city below, his head turning a bit to look at her.
“If our places, our lives were swapped, Dany...What would you have done? Certainly better, that’s for sure. I know you never knew mother, but the pain I felt, losing my family...You’ve felt it yourself. Imagine a child having that and more put on them. I don’t know how you turned out so good, so kind with how I was. Did you know mother tried her best to keep me from father so I didn’t turn out like him, so I learnt less from him? I suppose the coin flip didn’t care....”
Viserys rambled cutting himself off before he rattled on, turning to face Daenerys full on and started to close the gap between them a few steps at at time. “The only thing I ever wanted was a crown. Do you know why? It was the last symbol of our family. My last piece of feeling safe and my sanity. The crown meant power yes, it meant that I could rule. It was home. It was my red door and lemon tree. But now, I know I need something new to put those feelings into. It should have been you. It is now, please, Dany....let me try to be a better brother. I understand it will take time and you may never forgive me...Just, please.” He pleaded, his voice low and hush.

⁂Early life:
Princess Visenya Targaryen of Runestone was born on the last day of the year 90AC, at her mother's ancestral home.
The newborn child was named after the Conqueror Queen, Visenya, by her father and anointed by holy oils seven days after her birth at the Sept-by-the-Sea in Runesport.
Queen Alysanne, who held the child during the ceremony is noted for having remarking that ‘the girl has all of Viserra’s beauty, but Alyssa’s temper’ to which the King is said to have answered ‘Gods be good’.
As Princess Visenya grew, her parents continued to battle, using the young girl as a pawn in their conflict, with both parents appealing to the King and Queen to take their side on occasion.
During her early years she grew especially close to her natural born brother, Orys Stone, the illegitimate son of Prince Daemon by Lady Rowena Royce, Lady Rhea’s older third cousin. The young boy was brought into Lady Rhea’s household in the year 90AC, following the passing of his mother.
From the age of five, her parents’ estrangement was permanent, with Prince Daemon returning to the Crownlands and Lady Rhea and their daughter remaining at the Vale. After royal intervention it was agreed that the Princess time was to be split between living in Runestone with her mother, and between the Red Keep and Dragonstone with her father, alternating during the seasons, summer and winter was spent on the Vale, while spring and autumn in the Crownlands, special celebrations were shared.
Her education appears to have been strict and somewhat old-fashioned, thus, in addition to her studies, Grand Maester Runciter notes in his journals, she was taught spinning and weaving and had an innate talent for weaving intricate tapestry. From the year 92 forward, Visenya, who had been betrothed to her newborn cousin, Prince Aerion, was expected to become Queen Consort, and her education reflected it. Her betrothed passed away in his cradle two years later, and Visenya was then betrothed to his newborn brother, Prince Aelor.
Her tutors at the time, Maester Adelin, Archmaester Vaegon and Master Petrarca of Volantis, regarded Princess Visenya as an extroverted, lively, highly intelligent, and strong-willed girl. Prince Daemon was reported to be proud of her horsemanship and marksmanship.
Because of her outstanding intellect, and his blunt favoritism, King Jaehaerys named Princess Visenya as his cupbearer in the Year 96AC, at the age of six.
The young princess often was allowed to discuss the classics, philosophy, and the affairs of state with ambassadors and envoys visiting the court of Jaehaerys. Moreover, she was personally acquainted with the painters, musicians, writers, and scholars who lived in and around the royal court.
Princess Visenya if often considered one of, if not, the best educated women of her generation.
The year 96AC marked another milestone for Princess Visenya: on the eight moon of the year, the young princess bonded and became the first rider of a she-dragon she named Huraxes. The same dragon that as a hatchling had been brought to Princess Daenerys Targayen. Huraxes had pearly scales and iridescent wing membranes, with pale and pinkish flames. The princess was allowed to bond with the she-dragons by royal decree after falling ill with a bolt of Spring Fever that nearly took her life.
Matches for Princess Visenya started being discussed by the Small Council, brought up by the Lord Hand. Thought Visenya was heiress to the largest fortress in the Vale and to the Ladyship of Runestone, it was argued that as she was a Princess of the Realm, the matter of her marriage was a prerogative of the King, which infuriated Prince Daemon, who at the time occupied the seat of Master of Law, the Grand Master agreed that such line of thought might anger the Vale, as the Princess was highly regarded by her people and her second cousin, the Lady Jeyne Arryn. Lord Corlys suggested his own son as a match for the princess, four years her junior, most likely to tie another dragonrider to his house. His Grace put down all talks of marriage for his niece, agreeing that such was the right of his brother and good sister to choose her match.
For the celebration of his niece's fifteenth nameday, the king ordered seven days of celebrations, with a tournament and grand feasts. The Queen's absence was noticed, excused as Her Grace was in the early stages of her final pregnancy, and Visenya was allowed to sit in the seat usually reserved for the consort; she was crowned Queen of Love and Beauty by the Dornish Ser Eldric Dayne, the Star in the Morning.
Since the Princess's return to court early in the spring of 104 AC, Visenya had caught the king’s eye, and it is reported that Viserys and his niece have become very close, spending hours each day in each other's company, promenading in the gardens, hunting in the Kingswood, and dancing together during feasts and balls.
The king is said to have spoiled his niece with lavish gifts, including presenting her with a manse in King’s Landing, a country estate crossing the Blackwater Rush and later a sea palace in the Reach.
⁂Marriage and Queenship:
After the death of Queen Aemma Arryn in the Year 105 AC, Princess Visenya, aged 15, became the 2nd wife and Queen Consort of her uncle, King Viserys I Targaryen. Their betrothal was announced a month following the queen’s passing, and a private ceremony was held three months later in Dragonstone.
It was a scandal at the time, as not only the King’s new marriage was announced a moon after the late queen’s passing in childbed, but it had also been rumored for some time that Viserys and Visenya had been lovers.
More salacious tales propagated by the fool Mushroom during the Dance of the Dragons tells of the princess sitting on her uncle's lap during feasts, kissing him shamelessly, and nibbling his fingers sensually as he fed her like a beloved pet; of the king fondling her breasts in public, and announcing to his courtiers that he and his niece would retire to make love. These have no contemporary support, with Septon Eustace calling such tales absurd and slanderous.
Over the matter of his marriage to his niece Viserys claimed that the marriage was in the public interest and ordered a grand celebration for the occasion of his new queen's coronation, to happen after the end of mourning period for Prince Baelon. Visenya was the first Queen Consort crowned in a separate ceremony from the reigning King. During the occasion the apparent advanced state of the queen's pregnancy caused a new wave of rumors that Visenya had been the King's mistress while the queen was still alive and that their child was conceived out of wedlock.
In their more than two decades of marriage, Visenya and Viserys had fourteen children, all survived into adulthood, something that the maesters attribute to the queen’s management of the nursery. Visenya’s role as a mother was glorified throughout the realm, their young new queen’s obvious fertility was seen, by the smallfolk and nobles alike, as both a bless from the Mother and a sign from the gods. With the birth of her twin girls, Princess Viserra and Princess Rhaelys, coins were issued, portraying her as the Mother, an allegory that would repeat itself many times for the remaining of her husband’s and son’s reign. If in her maidenhood, as a young princess, Visenya posed as a model for sculptures of the Maiden, in motherhood and queenship, she was now the Mother.
Although it was not the norm of the age, and in fact, apart from the late Queen Alysanne, no other queen receive such a honor, King Viserys granted Visenya a seat on his Small Council, leaning on her for advice on varied subjects due to his respect for her opinion and good judgment. She became a formidable figure with far-reaching influence during this time. According to some sources, her influence was such that Queen Visenya effectively ran the government alongside the Hand of the King.
In the year 115AC, around the time of her stepdaughter’s wedding to Ser Leanor Velaryon and in the years that followed, the Queen Consort started to work and put her own trusted people in ever higher positions to strengthen herself and her sons through them.
Visenya acted as her first husband’s regent after his health decline, sat in her eldest son’s war table following Viserys’s death.
⁂Personality:
Some historians have contended that to some extent she deserved her negative reputation propagated by her stepdaughter following the death of King Viserys I, despite the inaccuracies of the claims that she was sexually disreputable or regarding the legitimacy of her children, other criticisms of her were valid: she was ambitious, proud, obstinate, and masked her cunning behind a sweet-toned voice and flawless manners.
Princess Rhaenyra described her as a woman of reckless extravagance and wantonness, who seduced a grieving man, and whom the King nonetheless loved passionately and faithfully. It is widely known that those part of the Black Court of the Princess of Dragonstone took to call the queen ‘the King’s Great Whore’ and ‘Lady Concubine’, however always away from both the queen and the king’s ears as well as her supporters, further spreading the rumors of an extramarital affair while the late Queen Aemma still lived and questioning the validity of the legitimacy of their children. Despite rumors spread on her sons legitimacy supported by the queen's supposed lasciviousness, all of Visenya’s children resembled those of her lineage.
In her youth, Visenya was celebrated as ‘the most beautiful creature in the world’ and that there was ‘nothing lacking in her that the most beautiful girl should have’. Ser Alyn of Hull would reflect later in her lifetime that regarding her appearance ‘there were few women who could compete with the Queen in her prime’.
Visenya was fiercely independent, a trait she shared with her mother. Mellos described her as having ambitions to match her pedigree. However, Archmaester Gyldayn notes that Visenya was fully aware that a woman in Westeros could not hold power in her own right. Instead, Visenya orchestrated the rise of her sons.
Capable of acts of extreme ruthlessness, she, in contrast, was also able to demonstrate uttermost kindness and charity.
⁂Issue:
At four and thirty of age by the time of their weeding, Viserys was already considered in his middle age. The union however proved itself to be a happy one, and together they had 14 children, nine sons and five daughters.
Visenya had been taught the importance of receiving an education and came to play an extensive role in her children' education, resulting in the creation of a "superior breed of princes."
Queen Visenya was know to call her children her 'precious jewels', and took great pride in all of them, she was particularly close to the princesses Alyssa and Elaena, however it is said, that from all her children, her favorite was Prince Aegon.

I mean, Edelgard is pretty much a crossover between Weiss Schnee and Daenerys Targayen. The latter is hopefully obvious, but the former…
Let’s just say Weiss Schnee was initially conceived as a character who is the heiress to a family fortune, including a company that holds a monopoly on its market. Said company has also profited from slave labor and as a result is often the target of a liberation group. Weiss herself is pretty racist against the minority whose rights the liberation group (violently) fights for, a character point that gets dropped completely with no explaination in favor of her having… Heterosexual romance drama. Yeah.
Anyway, we later find out that her father is an asshole and abused the entire family. It’s by no means written well, but you wanna know the real kicker? Somehow Weiss still manages to be the better character in all of this IMO since she is at least fairly consistent in her development and does have a somewhat engaging story, even though the execution of it is pretty bad.
White hair, dainty figure. Yeah just make her dress in red and give her contact lenses.
I can't really form an opinion on this because I personally haven't seen her story, but it sounds like.. something! Holy hell what is even happening.

I was interested in seeing visually, just how much of the series has been dedicated to each House and Character story lines.
First I just did a basic pie chart of all the POV characters, including the Prologue / Epilogue chapters. These are all in order from their words on the page in the story so far. I greyed out deceased characters, but the other colors used are random. I combine the characters with 4 or less chapters just to make it more readable, so the top 14 characters and Others. The Others are listed in the side chart in black.
Now I broke up the POVs into their Houses to get a sense of how much of the story is being dedicated to each House, at least by members of that House and those associated with them.
Tumblr media
First off, I put Jon into the Nights Watch, otherwise the Stark category would be too dominate (if you add it to the Starks it is nearly half the pie), and of course since his storyline is unique to him and his potential ‘parentage’ revel later, I thought it best to separate to clearly define his and the Others storyline. Also put the Targaryen block next to him (for those who like to think of him as a Targaryen) as you can visually see the two combine nearly equal the Starks and Lannister Houses, clearly the three dominate families whom ASOIAF is revolving around.
Also The Starks and Greyjoy are connecting more, and Baratheon and Lannisters have associations (Brienne might join Jaime), and Martell and Targaryens might team up.
This is the House break downs.
Tumblr media
Clearly House Stark is dominate with so many POVs. I added Merrett Frey here as that chapter is most about Lady Stoneheart (Catelyn). I pull out the wedge to differentiate the weaker connection to the whole.
Tumblr media
Obviously Jon dominates the Nights Watch storyline, with Sam as main support. Most of the prologues / epilogues are also set around the wall.  I added Pate here, he was the only ‘loose’ POV, but since his character will most likely be interreacting with Sam, I added it here. I don’t think it throws off the numbers too much, I just couldn’t justify putting him in the Martell house as Oldtown is technically in The Reach, and the Tyrells have no POVs so no real House representation to speak of, perhaps once we get more info I’ll move him to another block later. Besides, Pate is probably an FM agent, so yeah, he is a wildcard.
Tumblr media
Clearly Daenerys is the main Targayen representation in the story, I added Connington here too, pulled out at bit as his story line is so far separated, but he is still representing Targaryen interests through Aegon.
Tumblr media
House Lannister is mostly Tyrion, but he had a POV from the beginning, GRRM did a lot of catching up with Cersei and Jaime in the latter books, they are about equal, interesting that combine they nearly match Tyrion, the most written about character in the series.
Tumblr media
House Greyjoy is a nice representation of family, mostly Theon, but his sister and Uncles are given a good portion and sure to have more impact in the final books.
Tumblr media
House Baratheon might seem a little bigger as I decided to add Brienne to this group. She doesn’t spend as much time with Renly, but she did start off there, and even though she is working to fulfill her oath to Catelyn and Jaime, I just couldn’t put he into the Stark camp firmly just yet. Perhaps once she actually meets with and joins one of the Starks (most likely one of the girls), but her journey since has been more neutral / free agent and she could end up with another group entirely (Jaime) if her encounter with Lady Stoneheart goes badly.
Tumblr media
House Martell, last family on the board. They were late additions to the story with only 4-2 chapters each, but this will surely increase as their plans start to upset the balance in the South. Two of their initial character POVs were also killed off early, so I don’t expect an easy survival rate for those from Dorne.
Well, I had fun looking at the House breakdowns, would you have made a different choice? Drawing any conclusions? Any other breakdown ideas?
I thought about adding the released chapters info, but wasn’t sure if it should be included as it is not ‘official’ material.

Falsehoods about Dany easily disproven by the text
Dany is arrogant
Dany calls herself a monster, worries constantly about the choices she makes as a ruler, blames herself when things go wrong even when she could not have avoided it.
Dany is bloodthirsty
The problem with Dany’s leadership in Meereen is that she was too gentle and conciliatory towards the slavers as she just gave them the chance to regroup and regain their power. She avoided bloodshed after the initial sack and was desperate for peace. Her one act of bloodthirstiness was in response to seeing hundreds of innocent children brutally murdered in an attempt to mock her.
Dany only uses the slaves to fight her battles
Dany does not stop freeing slaves after she has got an army. She frees the elderly, the infirm, bed slaves and other non-combatants and invites them into her train. She gives them food and sustenance which she could have kept for her soldiers. She specifically goes to cities where there is no army for her because she intends to free the slaves there, regardless of how useful they are to her.
Dany also refuses all offers of wealth and ships and alliances (Yunkai, Qarth, Dorne) because it means turning her back on the freedmen who would fall prey to slavers if she left at this point.
Dany expects to be worshipped by everyone
Dany knows that Illyrio was lying to Viserys about the Westeros people crying out for their true king. She regularly endures insults from nobles about her savage Westeros blood and she just sits there and grits her teeth. She outright hates it when the slaver classes call her Mhysa at the Dragonpit because she does not wish to be their mother.
Dany never learns from her mistakes
Dany is motivated to stay in Meereen because she outright refuses to have another Astapor of Ereoh on her conscience. She knows that she needs to stay behind and help establish peace.
Dany only cares about the throne
Daenerys longs for her home. Like every other noble she believes in her birth right, but she also believes it is her duty to protect people. She listens to everyone who comes to her to plead their cases, marries a man she cares little for in order to safeguard her people. When a terrible sickness breaks out she goes out among the ill and suffering. Instead of using her ‘magical dragon blood’ to consider herself superior to them, she takes it as meaning she has no justification to turn a blind eye from the suffering that surrounds her. She locks away her dragons, the symbol of her power, because a little girl was killed.
Dany does nothing to rebuild Mereen
Dany instigates trade with the Lhazareen after the Mereneese nobles scorched the fields, planted crops, married one noble, took the advice of the Green Grace, took noble children as her hostages but treated them well so that they began to grow fond of her, all the way seeing off insurrections and invasion. She does all of this before she is even an adult.
Dany is selfish and doesn’t know how to love
Dany is delighted at the chance to buy gifts for her entourage. Dany; a fourteen year old child bride and rape victim risks standing up to her Khal and his blood riders in order to mitigate the suffering of their captives. Daenerys holds Doreah in her arms as she dies. Dany is sickened by the cruelty of the slave trade and puts her own quest on hold in order to fight it. Dany comes to love Missandei and wants nothing more than to protect her. Dany is affectionate towards her cupbearers/hostages and refuses to harm them even after her councillor insists she must. Dany refuses to turn her back on the sick who come to her walls, and tries to help them in whatever way she can.

As the resident daenerys fan, can you please share some of your fav book!moments where she cares for the smallfolk? (with quotes that would be amazing but if not, it’s ok!) I know she does, but I can’t think of a concrete book!moment (it’s been a while since I read them). Thank you!!
(I hope it doesn’t sound like I’m sarcastic or something, I like Dany!)
You're saying I'm THEE resident daenerys fan? What a badge of honor! I am no longer active in the asoiaf fandom, and I think there are plenty of dany centric blogs who are still going strong for her daily on here, but thanks so much for saying that!
The first instance I thought of is in a dance with dragons when she risks getting sick by giving water and feeding the sickly in the streets of Meereen.
Ser Barristan watched with ill-concealed apprehension. “You should not linger here overlong, Your Grace. The Astapori are being fed, as you commanded. There’s no more we can do for the poor wretches. We should repair back to the city.” “Go if you wish, ser. I will not detain you. I will not detain any of you.” Dany vaulted down from the horse. “I cannot heal them, but I can show them that their Mother cares.” Jhogo sucked in his breath. “Khaleesi, no.” The bell in his braid rang softly as he dismounted. “You must not get any closer. Do not let them touch you! Do not! Dany walked right past him. There was an old man on the ground a few feet away, moaning and staring up at the grey belly of the clouds. She knelt beside him, wrinkling her nose at the smell, and pushed back his dirty grey hair to feel his brow. “His flesh is on fire. I need water to bathe him. Seawater will serve. Marselen, will you fetch some for me? I need oil as well, for the pyre. Who will help me burn the dead?" By the time Aggo returned with Grey Worm and fifty of the Unsullied loping behind his horse, Dany had shamed all of them into helping her. Symon Stripeback and his men were pulling the living from the dead and stacking up the corpses, while Jhogo and Rakharo and their Dothraki helped those who could still walk toward the shore to bathe and wash their clothes. Aggo stared at them as if they had all gone mad, but Grey Worm knelt beside the queen and said, “This one would be of help.” – ADWD
But here is a great meta that has more of her dealing with smallfolk / just being a kind and caring person in general
