happyyyy valentine's day, my oc's last name is valens, which sounds similar enough to valentines for me to justify talking about him :)
So his full name is Damien Valens (not his real last name lol) he's originally from County Kerry in Ireland but moved to Toronto Canada when he was a teenager and has pretty much had his permanent residence be Toronto ever since.
He has a twin sister (she's older) named Bonnie-Merry they do not get along <3, mostly because he stole her cool demon spear that was also kind of her girlfriend? Scholars remain divided.
ANYWAYS, in continuing with messy relationships, he has an ex-girlfriend named Kali, they are soooooooo in love but also fucking hate it each other. He broke up with her because he was making a lot of bad decisions at the time, happens to the best of us! They still keep in contact but if he wants any info from her then he has to buy her stuff.
Uhhhhhhhhh, so the demon spear has a name, her name is Beryl, if you're familiar with devil may cry's concept of devil arms, it's basically that. She's a demon who turned herself into a spear so she wouldn't die, she can still project an apparition of herself. Her and Damien have a contract, which lore-wise works a little differently than others, usually when a human makes a contract with a demon most of the benefits go to the human, like being able to do magic and shit. HOWEVER, because of some weird stuff including Beryl kind of not having a physical body at the moment, she's the one getting the benefits, basically just siphoning off all of Damien's energy so she can hopefully once again have a physical form. Don't worry they fix this and Damien only dies for a little bit, he's fine, don't worry about it.
I don't feel like talking about stuff that actually happens in the story because like 90% of it is constantly changing. But I will say that despite him being the first character I ever made for this story, he doesn't really have much prominence in the first instalment, he's one of the antagonists really (although he does have some playable sections) and he doesn't really get much of the limelight compared to Beryl, Jason, and Vera. That does change in the second one though (he also gets a sick skateboard!)
Ummmmmm, actually I guess I can talk a little bit about what happens in the first instalment? It's the most 'fleshed out' at least, like I said above Beryl is leeching off his energy right? The thing is, this makes Damien really really sick, he is literally on the verge of dying almost the entire time he is in the first instalment (still can kick your ass though), he's mostly problematic for Jason and Vera (our protagonists) mostly because they keep getting in his way. I guess I should briefly explain the setting, basically it's set on a fictional island off the coast of France where thousands of years ago Beryl fought against an army of demons that wanted to conquer the human world, she ended up sustaining massive injuries and turned herself into a weapon so she wouldn't die. So Damien and Beryl decide to travel back there to try and find anything that might help her retrieve her physical body, along the way they meet Jason and Vera who are here on a job because there's been reports of demonic activity happening on the island. Conflict ensues. He dies. Gets better. Don't worry about it.
That's pretty much as far as I feel comfortable digging in story-wise. I'll just say some other random shit about him now that I couldn't fit anywhere else.
He's 6'5
He's half-Japanese
He's trans
He listens to Evanescence
He does have a crush on Amy Lee
Other crushes: Vergil devilmaycry and Mileena mortalkombat :)
idfk????
Anyways. That's it. I think?

Devil May Cry 2 Novel: The Parallel Universe
Spoilers for the DMC 2 novel if you care about that. Thank you @ro-k for pointing out such a novel exists, and thank you to everyone at Divinity Statue Github for uploading all dmc content in a nice location. Thank you as well to the translators, you all did wonderful.
Uh so I downloaded it and I liked a lot of it. Beryl is Dante’s femme fatale sidekick as he gets in almost every game skjdskdj and she’s very obviously a beta version of Lady—I still enjoyed her a lot tho.
Anyway the parallel universe isn’t the main conflict of the book apparently? I mostly skimmed the book but the parallel universe stuff happened in between the storyline and only lasted for maybe about... 30? Pages? I have to look. (EDIT: Yeah about ~47 pages out of a 200 page light novel, technically 199 since the last page is just a drawing of the magic object of the hour)
Anyway, Vergil’s dead in that universe, and he’s called Nelo Angelo as well. Was the leader of a rebellion, humans turned against Sparda instead of helping him.
Eva is a constant, and it was really sweet to read about her.
As you noticed in them, the bosses from DMC1 are now allies—and got human forms. This includes Griffon and interestingly, Shadow as well.
I think what I was mostly disappointed by was that Vergil is already dead in this universe. Instead of becoming a puppet to Mundus, he fell in battle against him. And we don’t see any of an alternative Dante either from what I remember.
I KNOW, THE NOVEL WAS MADE WHEN DMC WAS PRACTICALLY STILL IN ITS INFANCY PLUS VERGIL WASNT EVEN REALLY FLESHED OUT YET. I guess as a Vergil stan I was at least hoping to see even a small scene of the two brothers connecting somehow. Ah, whatever. Fanfic exists 😌
And yes, Evil!Trish was a thing and it was a really sad scene to behold. I would show excerpts but I’ve hit the limit 😔 basically she shows up as a leader to a raid with a crowd of golden warriors, all women btw, and attack the resistance. She’s killed by Dante and he leaves her with the Sparda, which in this universe has become a weapon for evil as the demons got their hands on it.
Anyway, to me the only interesting parts were of course only things pertaining to the parallel world. There’s a sliver of a chance but it would be nice if it could be explored again sometime. Now that Vergil is fleshed out... Ughh the possibilities
