Trivia: Part of the Evel Knievel motorcycle jumping craze of the mid-1970s, Atari's Stunt Cycle included realistic motorcycle handlebars and a handle-grip throttle.
The Evel Knievel Stunt Cycle was released in 1973 by Ideal Toy Company and was a huge hit, with the "energized" bike becoming the big toy to have that Christmas season and lasting through five generations of redesigns before Ideal Toy Company ended their relationship with Knievel over a 1977 assault conviction. In recent years, California Creations began selling the Stunt Cycle again, manufacturing the toys using the original molds from 1973… that's quite a jump to make, on Toy Tuesday!!
We know Tommy's words about violence are meaningless. Tanks, nuclear Armageddon, bomb disposal, full contact sports, guntoting earthworms, these all seem inherently violent. But what does TOMMY define as violent? The drawing of blood? The visibility of someone's breakfast from their insides? Two cats sizing each other up?
I assume it's the usual American double standard, boobies are bad, but violence is A-OK! How many people around the world were killed by B-17 Bombers? How many American children were injured imitating the daredevil antics of Evel Knievel?
This is not a new idea, the story is almost 50 years old.
