Lancelot's desperation to run towards the grail was so intense that he was smote down by fire and the angels had to bodily carry him out the room and lock the door so that he could not enter anymore.
Because of that Lancelot was in a coma for 24 days.
And when he woke up he was like "why did i have to wake?"
later on
Ector de Maris found him
and King Pelleas found him and brought him news that Lady Elaine was dead
(Maybe Elaine died on the moment Lancelot was struck down by the Sangreal)

Sorry for spamming you with asks, but on the subject of atypical fairy tale princesses, there's also the Apennine Sibyl. In classical mythology, there were ten sibyls. Medieval Christianity expanded the number to twelve and cast them as having prophesized about the coming of Jesus. The story of the Apennine Sibyl is a doozy. She's a powerful, virtuous, and wise, but very proud fairy queen who had the gift of prophecy and believed, in her absolute perfection, that she was entitled to be mother of the Messiah. When God chose some humble human girl, she challenged His decision and was punished with ruling an underground kingdom outside of the sight of humans. She built her realm under the Sibillini Mountains into an earthly paradise. In chivalric legends, she would be a recurring character both for King Arthur's Round Table and Charlemagne's paladins. Depending on who was writing and what story was being told, she was both a lustful seducer of knights and THE MOST CHASTE WOMAN in all of Christendom and beyond. She was best frenemies with Morgan Le Fay, and both engaged in fist-fighting with her, and in helping her welcome King Arthur to Avalon to rest and recover. She was Lancelot's first love, and might have even been his original love interest before stories assigned him an emotional love affair with Guinevere. Her lovers and husbands were the most impressive heroes and knights of three eras -- Alexander the Great, the conqueror; Lancelot du Lac, the best knight of the Round Table; Ector de Maris, Lancelot's brother; Lamorak, a powerful knight treacherously murdered by his comrades; Sagramore Le Desirous, berserker knight; Widukind, pagan rival of Charlemagne; Baudoin, younger brother of the paladin Roland. She was also a blueprint for the legend of Venus and Tannhauser, as she would take knights into her cave and they would never be found again. Powerful, proud, wise, ambitious, and also chaste, the Apennine Sibyl or Queen Sibylla is a fairy career woman who deserves to be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Queen Mab or Titania in fantasy fiction.
I've never heard of this character until now. I'll have to read more about her.

The back of my Siege Perilous
Tumblr media
Going from left to right and down, the symbols stand for Galahad, Percival, Ragnell, Blanchefleur, the Grail Heroine, the Lady of the Lake who gives Arthur Excalibur, Guinier, Gawain, Dinadan, Ector de Maris, Morgan le Fay, Caradoc Briefbras, Griflet, Isolde, Vivian, Taliesin, Tristan, Brunnisend, the Nine Witches, Laudine, the Three Queens or Morgause, Kay, Dagonet, Merlin, Palamedes, Sebile, Guinevere, Igraine, Melora, Yvain, Mordred, and Arthur.
If you’re confused about some or all of them, here’s my rationale/what the symbols are:
Galahad and Percival have slightly different Grails. I think Ragnell is found sitting under a tree, and another story has Gawain in a relationship with the queen of Avalon, isle of the apples. Blanchefleur means “white flower”. The square with the spiral in it is the Grail Heroine’s box of hair. The sword under the wave is fairly obvious. That is the drinking horn from Guinier’s chastity test. Gawain’s is a SGatGK reference. Dinadan’s is an aro ring. Ector de Maris, Griflet, Kay, and Palamedes all have symbols or patterns from their attributed arms. Morgan le Fay takes Arthur to Avalon on a boat. Caradoc has to be saved from a serpent which is wound around his arm. The torch is a Wagner reference. Nimue traps Merlin, whose symbol is the bird who shares his name, so she is represented by a birdcage. Taliesin got his wisdom from a cauldron, and there’s a cauldron in the Preideu Annwfn. Tristan plays a harp. The formation of the relationship between Brunnisend and her eventual husband is defined by their dire yet mutually exclusive needs for a good night’s sleep. The Nine Witches’ symbol seemed cool and has a threefold element. Laudine has a magic fountain. The evolution of the nature and deeds of Anna/Morcades/Morgause/etc. seemed to sort of go with the Maiden, Matron, Crone archetype and I really couldn’t think of anything else. Dagonet eventually became a jester. Yblis, who has a magic mantle, is Sybil scrambled, and there is a strong modern association between magic and capes. Guinevere is sometimes given authority over the knights of the vergescu. My justification for Igraine’s is particularly weak and would take too long to explain. Melora wields the Lance of Longinus. Yvain befriends a lion. Mordred has a broken table because he helped break the Round Table. Arthur is King.

INTRODUCING: Lance Mordred the III Lance's full name is Lance Kay Arthur Lamorak Percival Gawain Garreth Safir Lucan Ector De Maris Pelleas Bedivere Tryst Lionnel Palomedes Alymere Dagonet Mordred III, but no one has the time for that. Serving as a knight like his father before him, most others believe he has only gotten as far as he has because he is a legacy hire. Albeit a rookie and at the lowest rank for royal knights, he has big ambitions to do right by the kingdom and those he's closest with. Age: 22 Birthday: April 30 Zodiac: Taurus MBTI: ENFP Height: 6'0" (183 cm)

This is such a cool project! Excited to see where you take it! I never imagined we might get an Arthurian IF with a more close focus in on the literature.
Do you think Ector De Maris might make a cameo at any point?
Thank you!!! ☺️ Yeah, I’d actually gotten the idea from looking at all the Arthurians IFs and noticing that they didn’t really do much with any older material. I really like most of those IFs but there’s so many cool and interesting stories in the older literature that never really get talked about.
He might! He definitely wouldn’t be major but I’ve been considering having him feature a bit. One of my main struggle has been deciding which knights to feature while still trying to keep the main characters I’ve already chosen at the center since there’s just so many knights in these stories 😅. If I do, he probably wouldn’t feature until a while into book 2 and in a minor cameo. If he does, he’ll probably also have some cameos in the later books depending on some of Lancelot’s choices.

Perceval
Perceval and Ector de Maris have been whaling on each other all day. Like, really vicious stuff. Just brutal.
"Dude, you are kicking my ass," Perceval says, finally.
"Yeah, you too, man."
"Well, great job because I'm pretty sure you killed me, and now I don't get to complete my quest."
"Impossible, for it is I who am slain. Don't tell my brother it was you or he's gonna—"
Perceval shakes his head. "No. Quit hogging my death scene."
"Whatever," Ector says, voice muffled because of how he's lying with his face in the dirt. "Big talk from a murderer."
