Blazibok
So the last few weeks I've been trying out PokeMMO, a fanmade Pokemon MMO that, among other things, allows you to bounce back and forth among the first five regions/generations, running through the stories and generally trying to catch 'em all. It's been the motivation for this most recent surge in splicing, and indeed the only splicing I've been doing is mashing up the various monsters that made up my five teams with their teammates. They're a pretty motley assortment, made up mostly of old favorites from my ancient gen-one days, some of the cornerstones from my first Nuzlocke, a handful that I'd always wanted to try, and a healthy selection of randos that just seemed like a good idea at the time.
Anyway, I hit about level 50 in all the games and decided to mix things up before taking on the Elite Four-Times-Five, so I swapped a bunch of the critters around to make new teams. So naturally, I respliced them all with their new teammates. All of this is to say that the next fifteen splices are going to be the same thirty Pokemon that were in my last fifteen splices (or their evolved forms), just paired up differently. I'd like to think this batch turned out a little better, but some of them, like this Blazibok, are maybe a bit wonky. So I beg your indulgence for a few days while I get this out of my system.
Incidentally, if anyone has any good ideas for what to do in PokeMMO once you've beaten all the storylines, I'd be interested to hear them. I'm not much interested in PVP (I know players like me are important for the PVP ecosystem, running up the W/L ratio for serious players, but getting my ass handed to me by strangers isn't my idea of a good time), and the idea of just running around filling up my Pokedex doesn't seem like much fun either. What I'd really like to do is reset the storylines but keep all my caught Pokemon so that I can run through again with all-new teams, but I don't think they've got that functionality yet…

When designing new Pokémon, what do you consider first? Like, what’s the easiest way to think of new Pokémon for your region? Like how mine is giving out fanmade categories such as fossils, regional birds but also the official ones like starters
I think the biggest factor is trying to think of ground that hasn't been covered before, or has rarely been covered in the canon games. I try to think of animals, mythology, folklore or just concepts that aren't featured in the games and how to give them a distinct Pokemon-like feel. Some examples being the Manatubb line, being based on an animal not yet seen in the series, the Alvuff line which is inspired by the Wild Hunt from European mythology, or the Boufleece line being based on the idiom "a wolf in sheep's clothing".  I find it a fun character design challenge to try to head-craft these kinds of things into a Pokemon design.
I also try to think of ways of diversifying or subverting how we view recurring tropes in Pokemon. For example, having the Duna line or the Marijell line be based on aquatic animals but not typing them Water, or having Bovelle and the Pupplebee line not fully resemble insects while being Bug type. I try to sell the idea that characterizing the type by certain design elements is more important than the animal species having to slot them into specific types.
Even though I try to explore new stuff, I do also try to keep it grounded in some Pokemon nostalgia. I'm the furthest thing you'll find from a genwunner but if there's one aspect I miss from old Pokemon, it feels like we've drifted from Pokemon I describe as "monster friends". Pokemon like the Nidoran line, the Slowpoke line, the Rhyhorn line, Sorlax, etc where they have some basis but are largely their own critter. I try to capture this in my designs but I'll try and set aside Fakemon just for this purpose, such as Hanako, the Loftling line, and the Yttri line.
A part of my project also is that I don't really consider there to be one region being explored. The premise is you're exploring far flung locales or wildernesses that act as a sort of buffer between inhabited regions that don't see much (if any) human activity. If I had to make it analogous to one of the games I would say its like Pokemon Legends: Arceus where you would explore decently sized maps that have their own internal level design and Pokemon variety that are connected by a hub you set out from, not like one big open world like in Scarlet and Violet.
So yeah, thank you for coming to my TED talk. Hopefully something in there makes sense! Thanks for the question!

The Duel Dimensions
In New Skies, the universe of pokemon is structured like so.
There are two main dimensions; one being the world as shown here:
Tumblr media
(this is a fanmade map reflecting the canon one in super, but unfortunately reverse image search isn't turning up its creator, so i can't credit it)
The key thing about this world is that there are no humans, only pokemon and their various settlements, cities, towns, and cultures. Population density is generally pretty low, with cities such as Treasure City (formerly Treasure Town) being fairly rare but slowly growing in number. While pokemon are somewhat familiar with the idea of humans - especially since the Hero of the Meteor - they do not know much about them or their world. The structure of the duel dimensions is not common knowledge, only that there is at least one other world out there that looks very different than the one they know.
Said dimension is made up of various regions developed by humans, generally in sync with pokemon.
An unknown amount of time ago, in another age, Arceus split the universe down the middle in order to create a world completely separate from humans for pokemon - especially legendaries - to dwell peacefully.
Of course, most humans (especially in the modern day) prefer to leave pokemon be, or live alongside them in a mutually beneficial manner. There are, however, always those that for whatever reason try to control or corral them and use them towards evil ends.
Legendaries can travel between the dimensions at will, but they are the only creatures with this ability. While many make the pokemon world their home, they are mysterious beings who do and travel as they please. Some choose to live a time in the human world, and in a few rare cases, align themselves with a human as an equal partner.

KOIKEKKAI
An Electric-Ice type pokemon based on the Saint Bathans Mammal (an enigmatic fossil mammal from miocene new zealand) the concept of relic species and cavemen, particularly the image of a caveman frozen in a block of ice.
-Koikekkai is a...puzzling pokemon, to say the least. From what the regions scientists and palaeontologists have found they seem very physiologically similar to fossils of the archaic ancestor of the many electric rodent pokemon found across the world, lacking features such as the bioelectric organ found in their modern "cousins" and generate electricity used to stun and battle via pointing the conductive metal club they carry at any angry looking clouds and hoping for the best. Because of this and their apparently sudden reappearance as part of the island biota, missing from much integral regional folklore and from its fossil records for millions of years, a common theory is that after their extinction across the rest of the planet a group of Koikekkai frozen in one of the glaciers of the regions largest island were freed during the glacier melt following the great disaster 400 years ago and simply adapted well to their new surroundings.
Back again with a second post for my fanmade New Zealand/Polynesia region, this time regarding the "pikachu clone" of the region, anyways, wdyt of my art and ideas so far?

North of North
First post for this account. Just some Bella Sara stuff since there isn’t much out there. I wanted to do more than just the horses and cards so I’ll go over some other stuff as well such as the maps and characters.
Tumblr media
Here is the map for North of North. Definitely a very interesting shape with quite the variety of biomes. Tbh it kinda reminds me of a Pokémon region. In fact it would probably make a good Pokemon region with its design and the large diversity of different biomes.
This realm of sorts or maybe even dimension is described as between worlds. I’m unsure if this is canon or fanmade. Meaning it’s not necessarily part of our world but is connected to it. Is our world the only one connected to it or are there other worlds? This seems to be a place mostly for horses. Of course other creatures live here too such as humans and magical creatures and even normal animals? Some horses are born in North of North. Others come from other realms such as Wings and Soot. Some may even come to North of North after they die in their realm. Such as the mare Dowager, Wing’s and Soot’s mother who had passed away. Most seem to be from this realm. It is unclear if horses brought into this realm are few and far between or common.
Tumblr media
Here you can see a run down of herd territory. Now, lore and stuff changed throughout the franchise so this map may not be the most up to date but is probably the best we have atm. The lore is oddly extensive for what’s mostly fantasy horse cards aimed at horse girls. So I won’t get into it now as I do need a refresher. But this gives you a basic idea of territory. Herd Bellasara has its own area but they kind of in a ways rule all over. Herd Mustang of course doesn’t have a dedicated area as they’re a nomadic herd. Herd Eleym I’m unsure if they have an actual territory or not. While it has been a recognized herd at least card wise since Bella’s Ball, it didn’t receive its own featuring card series until Winter Festival, one of the last card series to come out.
Tumblr media
Here we have all the different castles. Due to limited information these are more of educated guesses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s some more fun geography and stuff.
Tumblr media
Finally we come to Trails End. If you played the online game when you were a kid you will most likely definitely recognize this map. I’m not gonna go over everything here but just wanted to show it.

Why is it that upon hearing about a new gen for pokemon that's coming out I don't feel as excited like I used to?
But than when watching fan region ideas on YouTube it makes me super excited and want that instead of wjat we're actually getting?
I mean, considering the polarization that SwSh caused and the complete 'why did you even bother' of BDSP, it would be unreasonable not to expect a good portion of the fanbase to be kind of anxious or not be as hyped as they were in the past.
That being said, though, I think I've only found myself enjoying one fanmade Pokemon region on YouTube... And I can't even remember what it was because the video I saw (with the person going extremely in-depth about the types of Pokemon, the aesthetics of the trainer designs, the inspirations of the region, the symbolism of their villain team) was several years ago.

Something that has been on my mind since watching that one tragic episode with Minior in Pokemon Sun and Moon animated series years ago:
Don't mind me i'll just dump notes of an idea for a R0M H4CK
Pokemon Wander
Blurb: You play as Red, the future champion of Indigo League. You’re on your way to collect 8 badges to fight the Elite Four, when…
- Starts off as a normal FireRed until getting the 1st badge and leaving Pewter City
Instead of the usual interruption from an NPC to get your running shoes;
You get teleported to a city/town from a random region, or even a new, fanmade one.
Following Generations include Gen 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and the fanmade one. No in particular order
Regions:
Gen 3 (Mossdeep City) - You ask for the locals where to go home, and you encounter someone who knew about your circumstance and explains it. Meeting Tate and Liza will tell you something about a roaming mythical Pokemon.
If surf is already acquired, Shoal Cave sidequest will be available.
Gen 4 (Hearthome City) - You meet Cynthia who is aware of your circumstances and further elaborates on it, she'll give you a pokemon that will help you (a mon that knows surf)
There will be an Amity Square Sidequest where you can walk with your starter. This will make the egg hatch faster, if not fully hatch.
Gen 5 (Undella Town (Spring) (BW ver.)) – You meet Cynthia (again if you already met her in Hearthome) and talks to you (dialogue depends whether you already visited Hearthome or not)
Gen 6 (Couriway Town) – You visit Hotel Couriway and meet Mr. Bonding, who is also aware of the phenomenon that has happened to you, and will give you a device that can be used only once to help you go home (said item will just teleport you to a random city/town from one of the regions mentioned above)
Sidequest involves turning into an errand boy in Hotel Couriway
Gen 7 (Mount Hokulani) – It just happens that your time of arrival coincides with the date of the upcoming Minior showers, you go to the Hokulani Observatory and meet Molayne and Sophocles. Upon describing what happened on your way to Mt. Moon in Kanto, they remember reading something related to a mythical Pokemon that uses warps and portals to teleport.
Sidequest (The biggest one of them all, the thing inspired by that one Minior episode) – Before the upcoming final Minior Shower, you met a Minior stuck in the grass, it joins your team, which lets you battle the trainers in Mt. Hokulani easily. If in party, Molayne and Sophocles notes of the Minior you have, providing additional dialogue. If agreed, you can do the Hokulani trial before the final Minior Shower. A cutscene with Minior will happen at the final Minior Shower and will leave your team. (When this sidequest is active and isn’t finished, it will disable the sudden teleportation that should trigger after talking to the pair at Hokulani Observatory.)
A fanmade city from an unknown region - never thought anything further other than it's based on a screenshot of a fanmade map using pokemon emerald tilesets from a mutual :3 (Dk if I can post the pic, so i'll not post it.)
Mt. Silver – After travelling the 8 random spots from a specific region, you end up warped at the foot of Mt. Silver, behind a patrolling police officer, which will escort you back to Viridian city after realizing you were the missing person the police had been searching for months.
Note: If you completed all the sidequests, an additional cutscene will happen as you make your way into Viridian City, a Hoopa will appear to snatch you away again and warp you to Dahara City 100 years ago (a city based on the movie Hoopa debuted), a man will appear to reprimand Hoopa and will use a device to imprison it (not the Imprison Bottle that will turn it unbound), but not before talking to you and asking Hoopa to send you back to Kanto. Instead of walking back to Pokemon Center with the officer, you'll wake up at the Pokemon Center.
Well, that's it. The R0m H4ck is basically less battles, more on cutscenes and narrative, and a little ambitious on map-making (lol). It'll never be made idk how to make a r0m h4ck, let alone change a dialogue in the game.

this is going to end up becoming a hub blog FYI! no roleplaying will be done here, instead I'll now be using sideblogs;
@anaptian-champion - Blog for my sort-of trainersona, Ryu Anthizo. Champion of the fanmade region of Anaptis who kind of just wants to be some guy; is basically a glorified ranger.
@thatguyfromsinnoh - Blog for a Unovan OC named Samuel "Sam" Greyson. Bird Pokemon enthusiast who has some pretty controversial ideas about training Pokemon in general.
@ascension-corp-official - Blog for a group that's probably up to no good. Stationed in Anaptis and probably protected by the region's governing body.
@cutsthru-darkness - Blog for a Kalosian OC named Félicien Lefèvre. Steel-type specialist with a passionate hatred of Dark-type Pokemon.
@gday-from-tasmaloa - blog for Pokemon world versions of characters from the TY the Tasmanian Tiger series.

Pokemon Kiwami
Pokemon Kiwami is a Pokemon fan game that is a fanmade cross over between Nintendo's Pokemon series and Sega's Yakuza series.
Unlike normal Pokemon games, it follows the formula of a silent protagonist that takes the place of an avatar towards the player. However, following the ideas of Yakuza of following a central protagonist in the depths of a criminal empire, meet Makoto Ryuen. A young man who is passionate about Pokemon battles and helping others, beating every single Yakuza that he comes across with. See how a civilian is thrown into the Yakuza conflict that would ultimately change the history of the region and the criminal underworld.
Warning This game contains strong language and adult themes that may be uncomfortable for children. The words “f**k,” “sh*t,” and “a*shole” appear in the dialogue. Player discretion is advised.
Features:
1/13 Chapters of Story
1 Gym Badge
1 Substory
All starters are available (Almost all have new abilities!)
HMs are replaced as Key Items
Pokémon up to Gen 8
Speed-Up Toggle (Alt Key)

Ursumoke, the Ash-Bear Pokémon!
Tumblr media
Ursumoke is an imposing Pokémon, although not inherently dangerous upon interaction with humans. They will not run away from threats, but also will not seek them out or pursue them needlessly. They are more complacent than their counterparts in other regions, such as Ursaring and Beartic. However, they are dangerous when fully provoked, as their flames can easily reach temperatures of 1,400 °F. Ursumoke has gained full control of the fire that they produce from their red outer coat, and use it defensively in most instances. They maintain their control over fire by consistently obtaining fuel, normally in the form of berries, insects, and occasionally meat. Their varied diet brings them far out of their territories for food, but they tend to stay away from large human settlements. However, they will venture near campsites if desperate. They will use their fire to attempt to scare off anyone at the campsite, deliberately looking imposing to do so. It is believed that this is why the species has taken up the Dark-typing, although this is still a question that Pokébiologists are attempting to answer. Some people believe that Ursumoke will use the fire-proof pads on its feet to stamp out uncontrolled campfires. This local belief has sponsored the idea of Ursumoke as the “Fire Safety” Pokémon.
Hello! Here it is, the third and final evolution of the Fire-type Starter for the Novang Region, my fanmade Pokémon region based upon New England. This Pokemon and its predecessors, Cuburn and Bearaze, are based on the American black bear (Ursus americanus), as well as one of the most famous American mascots and black bears of all time: Smokey, who is canonically an American black bear. This is most prominent in the final line, which has the tendency to maintain forest fires. This does not always mean stopping them, but also controlling them to reasonable degrees. This is something I didn’t put in the description, but I thought it was getting a bit long anyway.
So, there they are: the Fire-starter line for the Novang Region! Water-starters are coming net, and they’re going to be...interesting.

There are a lot of fanmade Pokemon that simply aren’t up to snuff (I’m sure any I made wouldn’t be, I’m terrible at design), but there are still so many that are simply amazing. They fit with the overall style of the games so well, and you can tell there’s some real love and passion put into them.
Meanwhile, in the official games, we get stuff like this--
Tumblr media
There are plenty of directions to take a Stonehenge-inspired Pokemon, and they gave us the absolute worst of them. This is boring. Its design is boring, its colors are boring, its stupid little face is stupid; there’s no love or passion here, there’s just a quota to meet.
Then look at a fanmade design, by Brad Simonian--
This was made as a regional variant for his own original region, and look how much more interesting its design and colors are. It keeps the same shape as the official Stonjourner, which I personally would change, but as this is a regional variant, changing the shape entirely would be a bit risky.
Look how it incorporates themes of nature and reclamation. The greens add life (literally) to the design, and the desaturated gold as an accent color is much more visually pleasing than official Stonjourner’s blasé brown.
Fans of the franchise are bursting with ideas, creativity, and if the Pokemon team decided to work with them, I guarantee you we would see a huge increase in quality--not to mention fan relations.

Template by @loumun-versen!
I'm going to post some Refs for a little Pokemon RP I started on Discord :3 Here's my Trainers Ref. I renamed her because I didn't wanted to name her Midnight or Vanessa, instead I gave her a Name that still can be nicknamed Mid xD The Atila-Region is a Fanmade-Region from me and @loumun-versen. It doesn't have new Pokemon (for now), except the Fusions. We'll see how far we come with it xD I'm a bit to excited to explore this idea maybe >w<" Hope you guys like it!

i had an idea in high school for a fanmade Pokemon game
the two initial games would be Pokemon Land and Sea, and then finishing with Pokemon Sky
some huge details i remember:
it was all about pollution. not because i was particularly going for an environmentalist message, just because i thought that was an interesting angle to tackle. in Pokemon Land, the villainous team used lots of Trubbish and Garbodor; in Pokemon Sea, they used lots of Grimer and Muk; and in Pokemon Sky, they used lots of Koffing and Wheezing. because i really like how Trubbish/Garbodor kinda finished off the pollution trifecta that G1 started with Grimer/Muk and Koffing/Wheezing.
the Pokemon Professor would eventually turn out to also be the Pokemon League Champion
the Legendary Mascot of Pokemon Sea would have been a Water/Psychic type that was basically a Great Old One
the Legendary Mascot of Pokemon Land would have been a Ghost/Ground type that was an undead fossil
there would have been a new Type, Tech, which would be for Pokemon that were created by humans. so Mewtwo, Genesect, Porygon, etc. would have been reclassified as Tech types, and there’d be a bunch of new robotic Pokemon that were Tech type.
the region would have been fairly diverse, not based on any particular real-life region; a large part of the region would have been built in and around a giant volcano, and another large part of the region would have been an artificial construction, a sea platform like an oil rig or something. except dedicated to housing a population rather than drilling for oil.
