If "Nightmare Ned" was featured/promoted at Disneyland and Walt Disney World at the time
On this day, the nighttime musical spectacular, "Fantasmic!" made its way to Disney's Hollywood Studios (AKA, "Disney's MGM Studios" at the time) at Walt Disney World in Florida. A year before that, the PC game, "Nightmare Ned" was released on CD-Rom for Windows 95.
While the game itself is considered "obscured" or "a hidden gem", whatever you call it, I feel like this game would've had better marketing if it was advertised at the Disney Parks.
For instance, at Downtown Disney, or whatever large spot of land was affordable at the time, there would be this tent where visitors could try the game out on Windows computers that have the game pre-installed (kind of like what E3 does for games being presented at a specific booth). And for two months only in 1997, Walt Dohrn and Donovan Cook would've been available for signing autographs for the PC game's box cover. Another part of the tent would've also sold yo-yos like the one Ned uses in the game for attacking monsters and ghouls, or to solve in-game puzzles.
And then there's Ned, our 10 year old titular character who has all these delusions and gets overwhelmed very easily. Ned would be a mascot character who would've had character meet-and-greets from 1997 to either 1999 or 2000. Because of this, "Fantasmic!" would've had a temporary revision (at least in the California Disneyland) where Ned would've made a guest appearance in helping Mickey (in his famous "Sorcerer's Apprentice" outfit from "Fantasia") fight off the Disney Villains, including his monster self from the good ending of the game. Courtland Mead (the original voice of Ned) and Wayne Allwine (who voiced Mickey until his death in 2009) would've still been available to record new lines for Ned and Mickey just for this temporary revision. A way to advertise this (at least in the case of Disneyland in California) would be that you could meet Ned during the daytime, and at night, the love Ned got from the guests would encourage him to face his demons with Mickey.
I don't know where Ned would've been located, even if he ends up as a meet-and-greet character at the Magic Kingdom, but regardless, I have some ideas in terms of what interaction tips would've worked. If I had to guess, interaction tips would've included talking to Ned about a nightmare you had to help relate to him, or something like that. And in terms of photo tips, one idea that would've worked would be if you and Ned hugged for the camera or if you had a yo-yo, maybe pose like you're gonna attack one of the enemies from the game itself.
This is all I got, but that's how I would imagine "Nightmare Ned" being promoted at the Disney Parks. If anyone else as a better imagining of this concept, feel free to comment.

Some Thoughts on the New Hero Section of Fantasmic! at WDW
First things first, I was having major deja vu/flashbacks to my younger self when I first got into Fantasmic! and watched I don’t know how many POVs of Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Tokyo DisneySea’s version. This ultimately led me to start comparing all three versions in how they differed, what I liked about each version, and which version I felt had done a certain segment the best.
Secondly, I have technically only seen Disneyland’s version of Fantasmic! live, so all my thoughts and whatnot about WDW’s version are based entirely on what I’ve seen through videos alone.
That being said, here’s a video of WDW’s Fantasmic! in all its glory upon its return to Hollywood Studios.
youtube
So...I absolutely adore this show and was really bummed that it was not running when I visited WDW this past summer. But, hey, it’s back now and stunning as ever!
Now, time for my uncalled for and unnecessary commentary!
The first thought I had was how the Mickey dialogue leading up to this section was changed from “Hey, what’s going on. Uh-oh” to “Hey, what’s going on. I could use a little help. Hello?” This switch in dialogue I think was the right choice because it no longer transitions into a large fight sequence (which used to be based on Pocahontas at WDW, and at Disneyland’s version, there is no dialogue change but this transition is used to lead into the Peter Pan (1.0)/Pirates of the Caribbean (2.0) fight sequence). Mickey’s just in the dark, needing some help, and with the following section leading into several heroes own journey and rise to their own power/self, Mickey is no longer “entering” a fight sequence that would justify his “Uh-oh.”
As was just mentioned, I absolutely love how the first movie or hero to be featured in this new section is Pocahontas since it feels very much like paying tribute or honor to the section it is now replacing.
The next heroes to come on-stage is Mulan and Shang in a number based on “I’ll Make A Man Out of You.” Now, I love what I saw on-stage in terms of the fight choreography and how it appears they are in the middle of training, I just wish there were more ensemble members also joining in. With Mulan and Shang standing in the center of the stage, just the two of them, I can’t help but feel the rest of the stage is a little bare/empty. I understand that only a limited number of cast members are involved in this show, most likely already handling multiple roles, but could a few more really not be added to this number? I will concede though and say that I am glad they at least projected scenes from this number onto the water screens to give the effect of more people being trained to defeat the Huns.
And now, to my favorite movie, Aladdin, who is the next hero to come on-stage. My very initial thought was how it feels reminiscent of “One Jump Ahead” from  Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular at the Hyperion Theater in California Adventure. And as a huge fan of that show, I loved it. Additionally, it made me so happy that the reprise was also included because I feel it doesn’t get enough love.
For whatever reason, I thought the “One Jump Ahead (Reprise)” was the end of this new segment and I was satisfied and completely fine with that. But then, “Show Yourself” and Elsa come on out in their beautiful segment. I don’t have too much to say about this section, other than I thought the combination of the character on-stage and the water screens and projections worked really well together. This particular section felt like those two elements really complimented each other in all the right ways. That being said, I will again add that I am basing this judgement off of a video and the effect in person might come off differently/not as well.
Moana is the final hero to be featured in this new section, and just like the audience in the video, I was screaming when she jumped into/stood at the edge of the water. Such a perfect effect for Moana and especially in this specific part of her story where she fully steps into accepting herself and the role she now has after being chosen by the ocean to put back the heart of Te Fiti.
This leads into a final water screen section with other heroes also being highlighted before leading into what I refer to as the Princess section.
One lingering thought I have, which does not diminish how much I truly do enjoy this section, with Mickey’s call for help or aid, and each hero responding in their own glory, either through the projections or on-stage, this section feels like it should come towards the end of the show after Mickey has gone up against at least one of the villains. You know, a sort of Mickey fought and was defeated and needs a little bit of encouragement from all these heroes and heroines to rise up against Maleficent or any subsequent villain. But due to its placement in the middle of the show, it feels like all these characters should still be finding themselves and not quite at their full potential or acceptance of who they are, mirroring Mickey’s journey in Fantasmic! However, this is not the case or the vibe I got from this section, and one reason why I thought the Aladdin segment would serve as the end of this new section. Honestly though, this might just be a personal opinion, and again, does not diminish my already newfound love that I have for this section.
So in conclusion, I absolutely love the new Heroes Section in WDW’s version of Fantasmic! and I hope I can see it in person one day. Do I have some lingering thoughts and feelings? Yes, but not enough to dampen my overall enjoyment of it. And this new section really gives Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean/Sailing Ship Colombia section a run for its money, even though each now serves a different narrative purpose.
Let me know what your thoughts are on this new section or any memories you feel like sharing about Fantasmic! because I just love this show so much and would love to read about yours!
