i'm generally not a huge fan of romantic subplots on account of the aroaceness but i'm weirdly charmed by featherstone and idelle's relationship. like max assigns idelle to seduce him into agreeing to partner with jack, but then while everyone else is having these complex interpersonal relationships the two of them just kind of undramatically stick together as a couple through the whole rest of the series, to the point that idelle starts gathering information from max to pass to the featherstone and the other pirates instead of the other way around. good for them honestly

Blackbeard, to Vane, 302: “A man puts a dead thing in the ground, he expects it to stay there. Sometimes it comes back. (...) «Non abbiamo» tempo per «un perito, madamigella. Ma posso dirle per certo che questo è lo stemma di famiglia, da appunti personali della defunta» sulla cui dipartita l'uomo non si intromette, non confermano né smentendo eventuali delitti o suicidi. Singolare, considerando come poco prima non si è risparmiato dall'appellare la defunta in modo assai colorito. «Beh beh beh» è tuttavia il duplice richiamo di Elizabeth ed Iris alla famiglia Featherstone a cavare all'uomo qualche parola, infine «Antica abbastanza, purosangue no di certo» e figuriamoci «Una vena di follia ha abbracciato diversi esponenti, da quel che si dic...il tavolo ottagonale? Subito, signore» il dovere chiama, ecco perché ad Iris è permesso di scattare la sua foto così come a Blythe di osservare meglio gli anelli - qualora voglia provarli - e decidere le sorti di quel cannocchiale che ha puntato sin dall'inizio, dopo i recenti appunti ricevuti.

« Prendo uno di questi due, occhio al colore che se non mi sta bene rivoglio i soldi, eee » andrebbe a riprendere il cannocchiale, sempre che sia ancora lì « questo! » mentre apre la borsetta per ficcarci dentro la mano destra in modo da poter scavare per il borsellino pieno. Questa è follia, altro che quella dei Featherstone.

Una lista interminabile lunga centimetri e centimetri di pergamena su cui finirà anche il nome di Blythe, una volta che la quintina avrà scelto tra una lacrima di rubino contornata da piccoli richiami dorati di simboli celtici o un topazio di forma esagonale al cui interno sembrano muoversi piccolissimi granelli di sabbia scura, in contrasto con l'argento dell'anello. Il cannocchiale, del resto, viene segnato controvoglia dal mago, una volta che l'ultimo desiderio di carpirne i segreti sfuma nella decisione di Blythe.

I am six episodes from the end of Black Sails and because I am absolutely not ready for whatever emotional damage that they are going to deal me but also cannot think of anything else until I finish the show, here are some extremely self-indulgent modern au head-canons that I have:

Starting us off, Flint is a leftist quite literally planning a socialist revolution, obviously. He does lots of direct action and mutual aid and hates people who want the aesthetic of revolution without doing these things. He cares a lot about the queer community and considers anyone outside of mainstream society to be part of this community. He and Thomas and Miranda all live together and are poly and everyone is alive. Everything is beautiful and nothing hurts. They all read lots of leftist literature together and organize together.

Jack and Anne are queerplatonic partners who still do crime together.

Eleanor and Max are your typical upper middle class liberal gay couple. When Eleanore gets involved in organizing with Flint, she and Max break up and Max starts seeing Anne. Idelle is Max’s ever-patient friend who helps her through all of her girl problems. Featherstone is Idelle’s loving if slightly himbo boyfriend.

Charles Vane is Eleanor’s ex-boyfriend who she cannot seem to stop getting back together with. He is the person Flint sees as cosplaying leftism and who he therefore cannot stand.

I’m not sure how Silver fits into all of this but I think he and Madi should get to just be normal people living normal lives. They deserve that. Madi is also an activist, which Silver finds distressing, but he knows she wouldn’t be content if she didn’t feel she was doing something to make the world a better place so he supports her.

Also all of this is still taking place in Nassau because why the fuck not.
