Here’s a video on how to reach Liber/Eng staff about the termination of the English server:
[Video ID: Player is in the A3! app, the songs “Insert the Sunshine” and “Slowly Flowing”, both OST from the game, are playing. The player click on the profile icon, (the content isn’t important). They click on their bio and write “Hi” with a kaomoji on the side, then they write a letter “i” and hesitate before deleting it and click off. They exist their bio and leave the profile page. They instead click on the “Support” button which leads them to a page titled “A3! for Appstore inquires”, there’s a hyperlink that reads “For feedback regarding the ceasing of operations”, and below that in smaller writing it reads “Frequently asked questions (FAQs)”. There are four options viable to the viewer, “I want to play on another device”, “I have received my purchased Gems”, “I can’t login. / I got error 904/905/906.” The player clicks on the hyperlink that leads them to a page to give feedback, it has a green banner and says “For feedback edgar ceasing of operations. Below it reads: “Players that have any opinions or feedback on regarding ceasing of operations can do so here. A disclaimer is below that reads “*Although feedback from users will be reviewed, we cannot respond to individual users”. Green text above a box is present after scrolling, it reads “Please input your feedback here.” The user types in “don’t please ahaha you’re (stylized as ur) so sexy” with a winky emoji, they then access their emoji keyboard and place a broken heart. They can clarify “Actually write something serious though (written tho) with a kaomoji of a smiling person, then press done (two exclamation points) don’t spam and remember to be kind (two exclamation points)”. They then click off the page and settings, the video ends with them on the main page of the game. End ID]
Bellow the readmore is what I ended up (actually) submitting, if you want to copy and paste it, please make a few changes! But ultimately what I felt like was needed to highlight:
- Marketing issues and comparisons between other games that handled international marketing.
- The sudden nature of the announcement and how it impacted the player base.
- The fact the game does have a fanbase and has a market (leads back to the point of bad marketing), and that the success in Japan is an example that the game does have ability to be a hit.
- Other options that don’t include terminating the server (such as a temporary hiatus).
Other ideas: Events to connect with the fanbase (example: art contests where winners get “X” amount of gems), twitter events (“Y” amount of retweets in “Z” days will give “X” reward”), subtitles of the stage play so international fans have more content to interact with, etc.
DISCLAIMER: I wrote this while still drowsy from crying and sleep medication, so if you’re able to, please help us write something better than… this.
“Hello, I hope this review/feedback finds you well.
As you can imagine, this is about the ceasing operations of the A3! English/International servers, and the opinions and ideas I (as well as other players) have.
I’ve been observing the way the player base has reacted to the news and, not so surprisingly, the reaction has been pretty negative. A lot of players feel overwhelmed with the sudden news, many disappointed at – what feels like – the sidedness of the decision. While we are all thankful for the amazing localization of the game, we can’t help but feel deeply saddened and, in more extreme cases, betrayed at the decision. The game has garnered quite a community, notably in social media sites such as Twitter and Tumblr, as it became quite a vital and comfort game for many.
Alongside seeing the way the player base has reacted, I looked at the graphics and economical side of things and noticed how players in the server have been lowering. Which, alongside the pandemic and loss of profit Cybrid and Liber have been experiencing as of the last two years, is what I imagine is impulsing the decision to halt activities.
With all of that in mind, I personally still think that terminating content to the English server is a bad idea — in the long run, that is.
The last two years have been quite a financial struggle for many, and to decide to end the game due to loss of profit seems hasty. While I understand it’s not possible to continue operations, I think halting operations until further notice would be a better idea.
Instead of completely pulling the plug, halting operations while focusing on marketing would honestly work better.
The marketing of the game has been, for lack of a better word, quite messy. I think there were lot of missed opportunities, marketing the game as found family and card game — where you accompany a group of people to achieve their dreams — would have been a better strategy than saying it was an otome game - which is what led to a lot of player joining and then leaving due to the lack of romance wh the characters. A good example of marketing, in my opinion, would be the Obey Me! franchise or games such as Cookie Run.
I’m saying all of this, but what I mean is, if the team behind it focused more on the advertisement on social media’s such as twitter and ads on youtube where the nature of found family and the true nature of Mankai (a company where family and brotherly love blooms) the game would find and flourish in the demographic, since it’s not unheard of players wanting a game like that — especially in the west.
Basically, what I’m saying is that I think the idea of terminating operations on the English server is a bad idea especially when there is an obvious marker for it, and A3! really does fit it. Personally, I think halting the events and focusing on marketing the game further — truly pushing the game with ad’s (which could include in game CG’s where we see how the boys grow and connect as a family) where the nature of A3! is shown clearly, A3! English server could absolutely bloom into something amazing.
A3! is about not giving up, even when things get tough, and to try and reach an audience – which is why, I guess, seeing you guys give up on it seems… sad and like a truly missed opportunity.
As someone who’s been with the game since launch, the game has so much potential, so please, please give it another try. Focus on the marketing, push it with ads on youtube and instagram, put the boys’ face out there and make the focus of the story known.
Look into the way games such as Obey Me!, the idol games (mostly female based), and other successful asian/japanese games have marketed themselves and try to adapt it into A3!. An example, instagram ads where you can see parts of a CG (let’s say the Muku and Yuki from Act 1) where Muku comforts Yuki, the voice lines there as you hear the game music and subtitles playing. Be honest about the gameplay, it’s not the most exciting, but market it as fun, add more rewards for when you train the actor — more gems or maybe trophies if you train “X” amount of times in a day instead of just a training card. You can even make more Eng server exclusive cards to insensitive Japanese players to also engage with the English server.
I feel like there are so many ways to go about it that don’t include shutting down the game, because shutting down the game truly feels like the easiest way out… but it doesn’t mean it’s the best way.
Anyway, I hope nothing in this feels malicious, I'm simply passionate about it as someone who’s invested hours and hours, almost 700 days of their life, onto this, A3! and the Mankai company feels like a part of my life, and as many others feel as well, I don’t want to let go. Not when I know there’s so many events and games, gachas and character, left for us as international players to experience.”

Long, unedited text in which I rant about comparative mythology, Joseph Campbell and his monomyth,
Back in 2012 I wanted to improve my fiction writing (and writing in general, because in spite of nuances, themes and audience, writing a fiction and a nonfiction piece shouldn’t be that different) and thus I picked a few writing manuals. Many of them cited the Hero’s Journey, and how important it became for writers – after all Star Wars used and it worked. I believe most of the people reading this like Star Wars, or at least has neutral feelings about it, but one thing that cannot be denied is that became a juggernaut of popular culture.
So I bought a copy of the Portuguese translation of The Hero of a Thousand Faces and I fell in love with the style. Campbell had a great way with words and the translation was top notch. For those unaware, The Hero of a Thousand Faces proposes that there is a universal pattern in humanity’s mythologies that involves a person (usually a man) that went out into a journey far away from his home, faced many obstacles, both external and internal, and returned triumphant with a prize, the Grail or the Elixir of Life, back to his home. Campbell’s strength is that he managed to systematize so many different sources into a single cohesive narrative.
At the time I was impressed and decided to study more and write in an interdisciplinary research with economics – by writing an article on how the entrepreneur replaces the mythical hero in today’s capitalism. I had to stop the project in order to focus on more urgent matters (my thesis), but now that I finished I can finally return to this pet project of mine.
If you might have seen previous posts, I ended up having a dismal view of economics. It’s a morally and spiritually failed “science” (I have in my drafts a post on arts and I’m going to rant another day about it). Reading all these books on comparative mythology is so fun because it allows me for a moment to forget I have a degree in economics.
Until I started to realize there was something wrong.
My research had indicated that Campbell and others (such as Mircea Eliade and Carl Gust Jung, who had been on of Campbell’s main influences) weren’t very well respected in academia. At first I thought “fine”, because I’m used to interact with economists who can be considered “heterodox” and I have academic literature that I could use to make my point, besides the fact my colleagues were interested in what I was doing.
The problem is that this massive narrative of the Hero’s Journey/monomyth is an attempt to generalize pretty wide categories, like mythology, into one single model of explanation, it worked because it became a prescription, giving the writer a tool to create a story in a factory-like pace. It has checkboxes that can be filled, professional writers have made it widely available.
But I started to realize his entire understanding of mythology is problematic. First the basics: Campbell ignores when myths don’t fit his scheme. This is fruit of his Jungian influences, who claim that humanity has a collective unconsciousness, that manifest through masks and archetypes. This is the essence of the Persona games (and to a smaller extent of the Fate games) – “I am the Shadow the true self”. So any deviation from the monomyth can be justified by being a faulty translation of the collective unconsciousness.
This is the kind of thing that Karl Popper warned about, when he proposed the “falseability” hypothesis, to demarcate scientific knowledge. The collective unconsciousness isn’t a scientific proposition because it can be falsified. It cannot be observed and it cannot be refuted, because someone who subscribe to this doctrine will always have an explanation to explain why it wasn’t observed. In spite of falseability isn’t favored by philosophers of science anymore, it remains an important piece of the history of philosophy and he aimed his attack on psychoanalysis of Freud and Jung – and, while they helped psychology in the beginning, they’re like what Pythagoras is to math. They were both surpassed by modern science and they are studied more as pieces of history than serious theorists.
But this isn’t the worst. All the three main authors on myths were quite conservatives in the sense of almost being fascists – sometimes dropping the ‘almost’. Some members of the alt-right even look up to them as some sort of “academic’ justification. Not to mention anti-Semitic. Jung had disagreement with Freud and Freud noticed his anti-Semitism. Eliade was a proud supporter of the Iron Guard, a Romanian fascist organization that organized pogroms and wanted to topple the Romanian government. Later Eliade became an ambassador at Salazar’s Fascist Portugal, writing it was a government guided by the love of God. Campbell, with his hero worship, was dangerously close to the ur-fascism described by Umberto Eco (please read here, you won’t regret https://www.pegc.us/archive/Articles/eco_ur-fascism.pdf).
“If you browse in the shelves that, in American bookstores, are labeled as New Age, you can find there even Saint Augustine who, as far as I know, was not a fascist. But combining Saint Augustine and Stonehenge – that is a symptom of Ur-Fascism.”
Campbell did that a lot. He considered the Bible gospels and Gnostic gospels to be on the same level. Any serious student, that is not operating under New Age beliefs and other frivolous theories like the one that says Jesus went to India, will know there’s a difference between them (even Eliade was sure to stress the difference).
But Campbell cared nothing for it. He disliked the “semitic” religions for corrupting the mythic imagination (which is the source of his anti-Semitism), especially Judaism. When I showed him describing the Japanese tea ceremony to a friend who’s minoring in Japanese studies, she wrote “I’m impressed, he’s somehow managed to out-purple prose the original Japanese”. So, it’s also full of orientalism, treating the East as the mystical Other, something for “daring” Westerners to discover and distillate.
What disturbed…no, “disturbed” isn’t the word that I need in the moment, but what made me feel uncomfortable is that, in spite of all his talk of spirituality, the impression I had of Power of Myth is that I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone more materialist than him. Not even Karl Marx, founder of the Historical Materialism, was as materialist as Campbell.
At one point in the book, he was asked if he believed in anything and he gave a dismissive reply and said “I want to get experiences.” A man who studied all the myths of the world available, apparently didn’t believe in anything. Is that what spiritual maturity is? A continuous flux of experiences? Being taken by some sort of shamanistic wind like a floating plastic bag?
In nowhere in the interview he talked about virtues. In rebellion with his Catholic childhood, he said that we should go to the confessionary and say “God, I’ve been such a good boy”. Any cursory reading of the Gospel would say otherwise. Wasn’t this exactly Pharisee’s prayer in Luke 18:9-14? While the wasn’t the publican, who went with humility and asked for forgiveness, the one who walked out with an experience? And not only in Christianity, since in Tibetan Buddhism, a tulpa is something you have to kill, not foster like an imaginary friend like in some internet circles, contamined with this obsession with experiences.
The way I came to see Joseph Campbell as a man who was so stuck in his own world that nothing could move him out of it. All he wanted to do was this big experience, but in the end it’s as wide as the ocean, but shallow as a puddle. Even when Campbell speaks about having a “cosmic consciousness”, all that New Age jargon, claiming it’s about people discovering they’re not the center of the universe, it’s still so…self-servicing. It addresses a crowd so obsessed with experiences, but wants nothing to do with anything that requires compromise. He quotes the Hindu concept of maya, that life is an illusion, but I wonder how right he is about it.
I want to share this critique, by a researcher in comic studies: “We do not remember The Night Gwen Stacy Died because Gwen’s death reminds us of our own mortality, ‘the destiny of Everyman’, but because the story exposes the fragility of Spider-Man reader’s fantasies. Even icons can die.”
The exposition of the fragility of myths, especially the Hero’s Journey, never happens in Campbell’s work. It never talks about the potential of myths hindering entire societies, causing strife and causing people who can’t fit to become outcasts. Not even the cruel ones, like the Aztec death cult is treated as sublime, ignoring the fact that the Aztec neighbors helped to Spanish because they had enough of the Aztec myth.
I have changed my article. While I will still write on the hero entrepreneur, I’ll take a more critical view. The focus of the entrepreneur as an individual has many issues, because it ignores the role of public investment (necessary for high risk enterprises, like going to the moon or creating touch screens) and it treats with contempt the worked wage. Cambpell also treated with contempt the “masses”, who cannot be “heroes”. The theory on the entrepreneur is the same, treating the entrepreneur as a hero and the waged workers as lowlifes who have nothing to do, but to work, obey and be paid – to the point it feels like some economists treat strikes as crimes worse than murder. Not only that, but they can exploit the worker (see a book named “Do what you love and other lies about success and happiness”, it could be replaced with “Follow your bliss…”).
Campbell wrote in a time that there was no Wikipedia. So his book was the introduction of myths to a lot of people. It helped it was well-written. He considering his approach apolitical, but it’s clear that’s it’s not exactly like that (though this is a reason why Jordan Peterson failed to become the next Campbell, since he’s also a Jungian scholar, but he tried to become a conservative guru and this was his downfall). And, nowadays, Campbell is still inevitable in the circles that his themes matter, unlike Freud and Jung. Read it, but be aware of its problems, because it has already influenced what you consume.

Higher education, lack of consultation and removal of Chairman HEC
Tumblr media
Prof. Dr. Chaudhry Abdul Rehman (Chairman APSUP)
To anticipate the future of a nation, closely monitor the quality of education of that country.
Nations which prioritized education successfully proved their mettle over time yet the ones who ignored education, digged the depths of decline. Sadly it was worse than that in our case as said in the following words of Hakeem-ul-Ummat, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal:
Alas, the treasure of the Caravan was looted
And the Caravan remained oblivious of this loss & realization!
(Pity that nation kept losing all they had, for they lost the ‘realization’ of losing it)
Field of higher education lays the core foundation of future progress and strength of any nation economically but it is evident that whenever higher education got compromised, not only this sector sank but hopes for flourishing economy also got shattered.
In Pakistan also, it’s been a long time now, the higher education sector is entangled in hurdles and trials crafted by governmental and non-governmental stakeholders.
From 2002 to 2008 was a six years’ tenure when the growth of higher education in Pakistan was at its peak. During this era, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) was set up by the University Grants Commission in 2002 and Dr. Ata-ur-Rehman was appointed its very first founding chairman.
I would say that it doesn’t matter how disputed role of former President General (Rtd.) Pervez Musharraf might be in country politics, his act of establishing HEC from the UGC was a commendable decision which brought the best higher educational opportunities for Pakistani youth.
From the HEC centric reforms and facilities for quality education and research, we could have turned our youth into aspiring icons provided with sheer abidance to the rules and merit system introduced by the then chairman HEC.
During the tenure of Dr. Ata-ur-Rehman, universities’ budget was greatly increased, many private universities were established and the culture of quality education & research was flourished in universities in a glorious manner. Profound opportunities and same merit criteria for higher education promotion were created without differentiating whether it were public universities or private.
Over time, an "undemocratic government" changed everything in the country and led to the rise of Pakistan Peoples Party.
Provincial autonomy happened with the passage of the 18th Amendment, hence, tug-of-war started between the federation and provinces over higher education.
Governmental departments and their clerk-mafia dealing with the provincial higher education institutes started the practice of earning a living by looting universities and considering them golden sparrows.
Not only the owners and stakeholders of private institutions but also the officers of public universities got blackmailed in result of a ruthless show of unlimited official powers primarily to make a fortune. This is evident from history of higher education and the thousands of HEI pending files.
The bribery culture has become an addiction in officials which has already destroyed institutions and continues to do so. Particularly private universities across country have been the victims of this scourge, even though private universities have more than 50% stake in the field of higher education. Without private universities, 50% of Pakistani youth would remain illiterate, which could have a devastating effect on the country's economy. A patriotic Pakistani would shudder at this thought .
It is not possible to ignore the productive role of qualified young people who came to the forefront after studying in these private sector universities and became forerunners of the country’s progress.
The irony of fate however is that the same universities got treated as a rolling stone in hands of unchecked authorities. The pending files kept rolling from one department to another seeking wheelers to get due approvals; which were never given.
When the problems of private universities went too far and could not be solved far and wide, in early 2020, stakeholders of private universities across the country formed a forum “Association of Private Sector Universities Pakistan (APSUP) to make a concerted effort to solve their legitimate problems.
Through this platform, the responsibility of 86 universities (and their 31 sub-campuses) approved by the Higher Education Commission has been placed on my shoulders.
Soon after its establishment, APSUP presented its Charter of Demand to the government, the main point of which was to consult the 50% stakeholders from the private sector to seek their recommendations in the matters of life & death of the higher education sector.
It was reinforced that those patriotic higher education stakeholders who have invested billions and trillions of rupees to actually partner in the bigger dream of constructing a great future for the country, must not be considered as a sheep-hoard worthy of no opinion; their demands must be listened to carefully.
In addition, it was appealed to the government to provide a roof over the years long cases circulating in various departments and offices, through one window operation system instead of a meaningless, wasteful and useless exercise of dragging files from one to another office.
Eliminate policies that are degrading rather than promoting a culture of research.
Special grants for deserving students should also be given to private universities so that they can study in a private university if they want to.
While acknowledging the services of private universities, the government should patronize them, consider them as their partner, friend and helper in the sacred mission of promoting education and not rivals.
Approval cases have been stuck in government offices for years and the punishment for their delay should not be given to private universities through tactical policies; this is sheer unjust.
The autonomy of private universities should be taken care of like public universities, they should be given decision making power for the betterment of the country.
The HEC should provide equal opportunities to private universities in research, travel, conferences, workshops and grants.
Committees should be formed by including stakeholders to deal with years long issues that are still unresolved.
At the government level, there was an immediate good response to the appeal and recommendations made by APSUP. The Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun assured support on every issue and advisory committees were formed.
Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar was also kind and sympathetic. He understood the problems of private universities and ordered that no file be withheld for more than a week but after a long sigh and sadly let it be said that despite all this, the private sector is in clutches of the clerk-mafia which was born in the aftermath of the 18th amendment.
Only by the dint of malicious courage and fortitude of the mafia, those good sentiments and positive instructions have been thrown in the trash. So we are facing the same attitudes, tactics and difficulties in the new Pakistan which modern states have declared obsolete not if centuries but decades ago.
The chairman of the Higher Education Commission has been replaced recently. What are the factors behind his change is another debate.
Apart from those however, the government is requested to appoint any new chairman to meet the educational needs of the country, future requirements as well as the current situation. Be aware of the bitter ground realities that have been mentioned above. Be sure to consult stakeholders instead of doing one-man show; instead of being dictatorial, take everyone on board.
Even if Dr. Tariq Banuri had made decisions in consultation, his performance would have been at least satisfactory enough that even if the government had decided to remove him from office, it would have never been in the current manner bringing disgrace!

Ayesha Liveblogs One Tree Hill S1
No matter how many times I watch the pilot I consistently forget that Nathan and Peyton used to date
“Don’t bother showering tonight” is that really your come-on Peyton I will never understand sports
Lmao @ Nathan and Peyton “OTP: Distracted Driving”
“You’re despicable, you know that,” said Dan, a literal future murderer
I’m always so thrown when ppl in shows start drinking at their workplaces like what kind of bold behaviour Whitey you work at a high school
“What are you wasting your time at now?” Nathan ur a terrible boyfriend
“I say that the people who pray here are wasting their time. God doesn’t watch sports” I know Lucas is pretentious as all hell but this is my favourite line in any sports show ever
Karen is such a good mom ahhhhh like she just wants Lucas to be happy and she knows he’ll put other people’s happiness first
Dan calling Lucas ‘this kid’ like he’s not his wholeass son what a dick
It’s not lost on me that Keith telling Lucas stories about his father means that it’s Lucas’s grandfather Keith Scott is truly the only dad in this show who matters
“So why’d you just tell me all that” because he loves to monologue
“If I could [change the fact that Lucas exists], I would” Dan answer your door I need to send you a very rude telegram
I am in love with Moira Kelly and also I want Karen to punch Dan
The music of this show is really.... transcendent
Djhfkjhfkjh since Lucas is implied to have like, five friends.... is that crowd of supporters hugging him just a bunch of people who think Nathan is a dick
I admire Lucas for deciding he was gonna put up with all this bullshit to do something he loves
Omg I forgot that Brooke wasn’t in the pilot she’s such a major character
“Nice hands” “Nice legs” Emo flirting in a jock setting lmaooooo
My inner 2007 angst awakens every time I hear Gavin Degraw. He is THAT bitch
“You ever think I might want to talk” Peyton and Nathan’s relationship is truly nothing but blind horniness they have nothing in common at all in this juncture of their lives
“I didn’t invite you to come in, I just asked if you wanted to” Peyton is so weird but I kind of want to marry her. Is this what Lucas feels like
Lucas’s economic status is really part of Brooke’s romance criteria at the age of 17 they teach the bourgeois early huh
Oh my god I cannot BELIEVE Jake recommended Atlas Shrugged to Lucas jhjhgjhgjh the undertones of this basketball show really are about capitalism
HAHAHAH Nathan’s word being “revenge” calm down Sasuke Uchiha
I haven’t said so yet but Haley is so very endearing she’s great
God. Lucas turning around to reveal to Dan that he’s cast away his name. HE is that bitch
Ghjkghjkgh Keith hissing at the rude Boosters mum. Love of my life
“Maybe he’s gay” “No, I think he’s just nice” who writes this dumbass show
“Do you even care that it’s slipping away” maybe it’s because I went away for university but the idea that someone is this deeply invested in their kid’s high school basketball career is. A lot
Nathan simultaneously trying to bother Lucas and pass English while about to fall in love: I can multitask!!!
Update: He also managed to trash Lucas’s favourite basketball court somehow in all his business. He really can multitask!
“If it makes you feel any better I called some woman a bitch the other day” [giggle] I love Karen and Lucas’s relationship
Haley is such a good friend to Lucas and hoo boy Nathan when do you grow a conscience
“You’re both so broody. You could brood together” that’s it, that’s Peyton and Lucas
These emails and VCR references are really dating this show
Nathan is a straight up sociopath in these early eps my god he humiliates Lucas publicly twice at this party and just pops over to Haley like “Hey cutie :) Idk why Lucas is so mad :) I’m rlly nice :)”
Nathan really taking his girlfriend’s car to hit on another woman how much of a crapbag
As soon as I said this he (drunk?) drove her car into a streetlight my god
Deb and Karen having a nice lesbian coffee shop AU would be a pleasant turn in this show instead of literally anything that happens in either of their narratives
“Why would you even go there” “Because I loved getting dumped on” That is... accurate
“I’ll call you when you’re not so PMS” said Nathan, when his (ex) girlfriend rightfully lambasted him for crashing her car
I take it back Peyton and Nathan do have one thing in common it’s their disregard for traffic laws
HELL YEAH Keith IS your dad Lucas <3 <3 <3 <3
Whitey talks a lot of shit for someone who advised Dan to abandon Luke
I had been wondering why Lucas had the Scott name when Dan is such an ephemeral piece of shit and I guess there’s my answer thanks Karen
Does Haley ever find out about the shit Nathan pulled at the party I feel like these are relevant details in her budding affection
“Dad send you to spy on me? Poison my drink?” This is the second time in two episodes Deb has been accused of being Dan’s spy I wonder if she still considers that a red flag 17 years into marriage
“One of the boys doesn’t have a father” BUUUUURN Dan
Rhkgjhgjkh the last moment of this scene:
Keith: There is enough room in my heart for each of my brother’s mistreated sons even the rude ones Nathan
Nathan, experiencing a split second of paternal love: :O
Ghkjghkjgh the Scott bonding in hatred of Dan continues with Lucas asking Nathan if he too would like to spite Dan:
Lucas: You will be receiving your “I Hate Dan Scott” Club invitation in the mail shortly Nathan, mom, Uncle Keith and I hold meetings biweekly
Nathan: Biweekly as in every two weeks or twice a week
Lucas: Both! See you on Tuesday
“Does this mean we’re dating” yes it does the mixed CD is emo code
“Good luck with your game” “yeah, you too, Ma” hehehehe
Someone revoke this college medic’s license hoo boy
Ghjghkgh Lucas keeping his money tucked into his boxers what a doofus
I can’t believe Nathan and Lucas’s second big bonding moment is threatening dudes while in their boxers after beating on each other what a brotherly bond lmao
Okay but highkey if ur a lady and ur friends are gonna leave you alone and vulnerable at night get new friends
“I can live without my shirt” Nathan is thirteen shades of petty lmaooo
Dan is such a bad (abusive) father that Nathan literally would prefer to have none at all my god
“Can I tell you a secret? I pretended too” just get marrrried
“Thanks for cutting Lucas some slack” talk about accepting the bare minimum Haley kjhgkjhgkj
Brooke is really unbearable in this episode is it any wonder her, Lucas and Peyton’s relationship is as dysfunctional as it will soon become
Hoo boy the one (1) time Nathan doesn’t do something douchey and he gets blamed for it
LMAO @ Lucas approaching the one girl at this school with commitment issues with a bold “I wanna be here [in your heart]” hahaha
“Yeah, they can have their world,” said Lucas to Haley, about the two people they would literally go on to marry
The fact that Peyton doesn’t turn off her webcam and just covers it also really speaks to the era
This Gabe dude is really ready to assault a minor like he’s not just a r*pist he’s also a predator double KO
It is not lost upon me that it looks like one pill has been popped out before so he is also a serial r*pist big fucking yikes
“What, you got a cellphone too, dawg? Things sure have changed” also quite dated hahahaha
They really went out of the way to redeem Brooke not only did she give Nathan and Haley a very very cute date she also saved her friend from being assaulted
“So you don’t have any brothers, do you” jhgkhgkhg Brooke please
“Why are you only nice to me when we’re alone” a very legitimate question Haley
Nathan’s dating methodology: There’s nothing in life that can’t be solved with make-outs
Deb is really so nice but every time I look at her I think of her drinking a lot and sleeping with Nathan’s friends lmao
Haha that North Carolina sign explains the mild Southern accents
Aieeeeeeeeeee you kiss that man and follow your dreams Karen
Even if Nathan is still A Lot this season him and Haley are so cute:
Haley, smiling: We can’t do this here right now
Nathan, giggling: We just did
Lucas says more to Dan by constantly leaving with a look of disgust than any words ever could
“My heart’s racing too. That’s what happens when I’m around you. (And on drugs. I’m very unstable Haley.)”
Lucas and Nathan’s very intentional “pressure from your dad” and “you don’t know anything about my dad” bc Lucas will not acknowledge that Senor Crabag Sr. is anything resembling a father bless
Drunk tattoos with crush’s bff Lucas has decided to make all mistakes at once and I respect it
Poor Keith he is trying his best but Lucas just chose this week to hit his rebellious phase
YESSSSSSSSSS DEB KICK THAT ASS OUT OF THIS HOUSE
“Do you really think that Nathan would choose you over me” uh???? Are you not aware you are... the worst father in town
Brooke you were fully aware of Peyton and Lucas’s vibing and actively pursued him/interfered so you have no moral high ground to be like “:) I’d never choose a boy over my friendship”
Skillz and Mouth accurate “hoo boy don’t look” when ur friends start PDA
“Mom doesn’t want things to get back to normal, she wants them to be better” hell yeah Nathan gaining emotional intelligence
Lucas quit projecting your childhood issues onto Jake he too is a child let him decide how he wants to live Jenny’s 6 months old not like she’s gonna remember lmao
Damn Nathan LET LOOSE on Dan fuck that dude

Me watching this team form a brotherly bond over their mutual love of basketball: Mayhaps sports are... good
Hahahaha Lucas threatening Peyton’s dad with a rake is weirdly endearing
“Hey you.” “Hey you, and you,” is a good summary of this seasons Brooke/Lucas/Peyton dynamic lmao
Why is Dan’s head... shaped that away. It is like a bar of soap
“I don’t mind you playing ‘Daddy’ to one of my offspring, but leave the good one alone, will you?” Dan. Meet me in the Denny’s parking lot at midnight and we’ll have words
“The whole Nice Guy thing is wearing kind of thin” foreshadowing for all the dick moves Lucas is about to pull lmao
“He’s got you skipping school now?” “Lucas talk to me when you get your tattoo removed”
Lucas:
Tumblr media
Lucas is such a meddler lmao how many family dynamics is he going to alter
I don’t trust Dan being nice for a minute all he wants is the upper hand with Deb in the inevitable custody battle over Nathan
Props to Nathan and Haley for somehow, some way, being the only normal couple on this show despite their incredibly dubious origins lmao
Scott family dinners are bananas I count four (4) major revelations and they haven’t even revealed that Deb and Dan are separated
Lucas and Peyton are really hitting every fictional couple trope in this ep - road trip, bed sharing, hurt/comfort, truly the YA bases
“The truth? In this house?” Props to Deb for drama lmao
Brooke saying ‘I love you’ you’ve been dating for like two episodes but okay kjhgkjhg
I can’t say I understand Nathan’s logic lmao but I guess they have to bring him back to basketball sometime
Wow Lucas zero hesitation on that second kiss lmao u r a mess
This scene is the definition of “that escalated quickly” they go straight to undressing
HAHAHAH NATHAN BEING SHIRTLESS IN HALEY’S DREAM FOR NO REASON 10/10 TEENAGE ACCURACY
“How do you explain being with me and not her?” “Because with you, I saw a future” that’s Dan code for ‘I’m a gold digger’
You’re literally macking on Peyton in the middle of the hallway while you’re dating the other most popular girl in school Lucas how are you this ridiculous and bold BREAK UP WITH BROOKE U DUMBASS
“So what are we going to do” I’ll tell you what you should do BREAK UP WITH BROOKE
Keith it is still daylight out stop bringing alcohol into this high school you have a drinking problem
“Can’t control love, you know?” THAT’S NOT ADVICE LUCAS BREAK UP WITH BROOKE
I really can’t handle watching Keith and Lucas self-destruct this episode how is Nathan the only Scott in a happy, healthy relationship
“You know that this is... wrong, so that makes it feel... deeper?” Lucas asks, as if he were not entirely in the wrong by carrying on with Peyton (who is not in a relationship) while dating Brooke
“I don’t want to hurt Brooke,” he said, about to start his third secret cheating makeout session of the week
“But then again our spouses aren’t here are they” [Deb opens door] COMEDIC TIMING
Gjjhgkjhg Nathan revealing his messed up intentions with Haley entirely by accident Scotts have no self-control whatsoever it’s their kekkei genkai
Lucas evading responsibility for his romance crimes by literally dying
Hahahah Karen’s confused vibes at Brooke are kind of the highlight of this episode
How funny would it be if Lucas woke up to Karen scolding him about his tattoo
Hahahaha for such dysfunctional partners Nathan and Peyton are excellent exes
AHHHHHHHHH LUCAS WAKING UP TO HIS BROTHER... MY HEART
Keith rlly was gonna propose after zero (0) days of dating I’m telling you no self-control is truly the Scott clan kekkei genkai
Ahhhh bless Karen’s compassion
Dan is literally blackmailing his son into staying in his custody he is in Deb’s words an “abusive son of a bitch”
Fucking finally Lucas ends this sham of a relationship with Brooke
It’s wild that Nathan is the only Scott with a happy and healthy romantic relationship
Nathan divorcing his parents is a real power move
I’m glad Haley announced Sheryl Crow’s name because let me tell you I would not have recognized her on sight
“How’s my daughter” Lucas really chooses exclusively to hook up with people who have devastating emotional consequences for his immediate friend group huh
“Funny I didn’t know you were forgiving at all” Lmao Peyton is that really the position you’re going to take after cheating with your best friend’s boyfriend
All the deodorant product placement lmao ‘this ep sponsored by Secret’
All things considered I think Lucas is handling Haley’s constant ditching p well
Bfhkghghjg Keith buying a new shirt just to go to dinner with Karen stop
OH MY GOD THE EP REALLY WAS SPONSORED BY SECRET IT’S GOT SECRET ON THE CHEER COMPETITION BANNERS AND A LITTLE GIFT BAG RANDOMLY IN ALL THE CHEERLEADER CONFRONTATIONS JKGHKJGH
The comedic timing of “hungover idiots” panning to Karen and Larry kills me
“She used to be this totally original.... Haley” what does this mean????
I don’t think Nathan and Haley are being entirely fair to Lucas bc he was only a dick once she ditched him twice (or thrice?) in one weekend
This boy toy auction as a concept is so inappropriate on so many levels
“I get Nathan for free” Fhjkfhkfjh Haley pls
God I was so very concerned about whether or not Nathan and Peyton were gonna kiss
“You’re not a mess, you’re just in love” [Ole Del Paso Girl voice] Why not both?
“She’s nine months old, just in case you forgot” to be fair I assume Nikki gave birth so she would remember that you can’t hold that one over her
It must take Lucas some mental disconnect to assume Peyton and Nathan are cheating when he also kissed Haley
Fhjfhkjfhjfh Keith fulfilling my fave trope of ‘we are not even dating but how about we get married bc we’ve been repressed in love for years’
“You know I asked your mom to get an abortion,” said Dan, to his literal son
I really can’t figure where this pregnancy storyline is going bc I know Brooke doesn’t have a baby
Nathan and Haley really need to consider oral or smth there’s a middle ground between making out and having vaginal sex
“It all hurts just the same” Brooke really out here trying to say that cheating is in any way equivalent to faking a pregnancy (even if only for a week)
Peyton and Brooke are way more invested in each other than Lucas
“I got you a high five” Hahahhaa I love Peyton
Gary like: Wow Nathan it’s humanizing that your father is an abusive dick
“Maybe this is the one that changed him” Lucas joining Dan as the second and only non-Dan member of the Dan Scott Apologism Club
It’s wholly unreasonable that Haley expects her boyfriend not to look at p*rn lmao
I love all this Lucas and Nathan bonding but I hate that it comes at the cost of Dan being near them at all u stay away from those boys u manipulative fuck
Ah the foreshadowing about Peyton changing in front of her webcam finally pays off
I’m no legal expert but I don’t think that taking your daughter out of state will help you in the custody battle in the long term Jake - nor will dropping out of high school
“What do I get out of it” r u 4 real Keith u dont get payment for loving your family
“I’m leaving because I can’t look at you anymore without my heart breaking” I like you Keith but that sounds like a You Problem
This is a fun way to shoot this episode One Tree Hill has such good directing tbh
Nathan discarding the Scott name from his jersey just like Lucas did in ep 2:
Tumblr media
Haley: Having sex will solve all of my problems Nathan what are you talking about
I remembered that at some point Deb and Keith have sex and I’m glad they fuck things up early bc I could not deal if it was later on
“I’ll miss you too, little brother” 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
KJKGHKJHGJHKJHGKJHKJ I CAN’T BELIEVE NATHAN AND HALEY GOT MARRIED JUST TO HAVE SEX THIS IS WHY THEY DON’T LET PEOPLE YOUNGER THAN 18 VOTE

World War I and Australian Art: Fighting for art in Australia
World War I had a significant impact on Australian society, being the first international war Australia would engage in on its’ own accord. The way in which this affected society’s function and Australia’s relationship with the world was profound. The art world, so inherently intertwined, held a mirror up to society during this time, reflecting this change. Socially, culturally, and economically, Australia had changed and many of these artists at the time were embracing this change, as well as the new influence of Modernism coming from across the world. However, some artists and art critics were hesitant to accept this change due to the nature of the works and the artists creating them. Within this essay, social, cultural, political, and economic influences within the interwar period will be examined to understand how Australian Modernism was shaped during this time.
Post World War I, women had been brought into the forefront of society, entering the workforce and other roles in greater numbers than ever before. With many male artists fighting overseas, women also documented the war from home, painting the strange world that was Australia during WWI. During the period of early modernism in Australian art, women were largely pioneering the movement (Hoorn 1992). The movement was dismissed as frivolous and lacking in talent due to this fact and many male artists neglected to engage in modernist techniques until the mid 1930s. In the words of art historian, Bernard Smith, ‘women played a greater part in forming contemporary taste in Australia than they have before or since’ (Williams 1995). Grace Cossington’s works examine women’s existence within the domestic sphere from a female perspective (Hoorn 1992) Women were central to Australian Modernism and the lack of appreciation of women as artists and proponents of a central art movement somewhat allowed female Modernists to develop in a way male artists could not (Hoorn 1992). Grace Cossington honed her skills in Post-Impressionism during the early 1900s, painting images of Australian life at the time. She gave scenes life, movement, stillness, and emotion, but neglected depth and instead opted for a flat plane existence for the image. The prince (1920) (Figure 1) shows what would be imagined as an extravagant scene, instead opting for the focus to be on the fact is a perspective, a little person in the crowd looking on, out of focus. Cossington did this in stark contrast to the way Australians had painted these scenes prior to Modernism. Cossington’s paintings, along with many other women’s, identified themselves as Modernist while straying from the masculine narrative Modernism is so often imagined as (Hoorn 1992).
Following WWI, Australia and the world’s economy was thriving. Companies had many new inventions and plenty of public interest to back them. Australians were thrilled about the modernisation of domestic life. The new technology and opportunity changed lives and created a sense of excitement. Artists depicted this in their works, this new economic climate, along with development that came with it (Coppel 1995). Many artists had moved to Sydney from Melbourne, the former hub of artistic expression within Australia, and others moved overseas to experience the works of other Modernist painters in Europe (Speck 2014). The development in Sydney became a focus for a lot of artists and The Sydney Harbour Bridge was one of these developments. Dorrit Black’s painting The Bridge (1930) (Figure 2) drew controversy over its unconventional nature. Her somewhat Cubist approach to perspective was unlike any depiction of Australian landscape or cityscape before it. Having moved to London in the 1920s, she had witnessed new ways of depicting landscape and colour (Speck 2014). Another symbol of the new technology emerging was the linocut. Claude Flight, a pioneer of the linocut print, believed modern art should ‘reflect the energy of the modern age’ (Leaper 2016). Those influenced by him included Margaret Preston who famously produced works of Australian flora in linocut print (Figure 3). She was a proponent of the Modernist idea of art for the ‘everyman’, promoting the accessibility of art. Her linocuts were easily printed and reproduced, making them able to be put in homes and used on textiles. She wrote in Art in Australia, ‘The easiest way to understand modern art is to buy an example and live with it. Custom makes consciousness’ (Preston 1929, quoted by AGNSW). The techniques used and the images depicted showed an economic shift in Australian society, changing the way art progressed in the early 1920s.
Modern art had begun flowing into Australia by the 1920s but the climate it entered was not so welcoming. After the horrors of World War I, anything considered too heavily European-influenced was regularly looked upon in a negative light. Modernism proved to be polarising in its nature and had garnered many critics, along with its fans. The warfare between Modernism and Conservative values went on relentlessly. A renewed sense of nationalism could be felt post World War I and this idea of the ‘stoic, hard-working Australian’ was seen to be under threat from Modernism (Underhill 1991). Those that opposed the movement regularly cited the ‘deviant’ nature the works and artists as their reasoning for opposition (Snell 1987). Norman Lindsay was a key proponent of Modernism in Australia and sought to have his works exhibited by the South Australian Society of Artists in 1924 (Snell 1987). However, three of his eleven submissions were rejected for obscenity and he subsequently withdrew his submission entirely, then hiring the gallery next door (Lindsay & Wingrove 1990). Lindsay’s exhibition was highly successful and was a direct rejection of the reactionary Conservative movement at the time.  In particular, his works including powerful images of female nudity drew controversy (Figure 3). Sydney Ure Smith, an art publisher and promoter at the time, was quoted to have said ‘it’s not so much what he does, it’s the awful ideas he puts into your head’ (Underhill 1991). From that point onwards, the war between Conservatives and Modernism continued, becoming a political pawn. Robert Menzies supported the opening of the Australian Academy of Art in 1937, run by the conservatives of the art world, while, H.V. Evatt, on the other side, supporting the Contemporary Art Society (Snell 1987). This scandalisation of Modernist art had created a split in the art world and, beyond this, fuel for cultural and political fire in Australia. The works, however, would become integral in the history of Australian art, regardless of the reviews it received from critics at the time.
The Modernist movement within Australia continues to be important in Australian history today. The artists and their works tell a story of a young society and its development in the early 20th century. A number of factors impacted the growth and prevalence of Modernist art in Australia at the time. These included the bringing of women to the forefront as artists, consumers and workers, the new technology being rapidly developed at the time, and the scandalisation of art and modernism, garnering the interest of the public. Modernism thrived in a difficult environment during both wars, but within Australia, the inter-war period created a climate in which it would become a focus of both artists and the public, fixing itself firmly within the history of Australian Art.

TIME TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST CONTAINER SHIP FIRES
This year has already seen an alarming number of container dry cargo ship fires including Yantian Express, APL Vancouver, Grande America, E.R. Kobe and KMTC Hong Kong.  The escalation is of growing concern and the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) has called for an urgent improvement to onboard firefighting systems.
At a recent conference in Arendal, Norway, organised by marine insurer and P&I Club, Gard, and attended by IMO, flag states, shipowners, salvors, class, and insurers, IUMI strengthened its position on this global issue.
Helle Hammer, Chair of IUMI’s Policy Forum, explains: “Fire-fighting capabilities onboard containerships are deficient and we need to see more headway to improve the safety of the crew, the environment, the cargo and the ships themselves.
“Mis and non-declaration of cargo has serious safety implications and is the root cause behind these tragic incidents.  There is agreement among experts that the current means of controlling a fire in the cargo hold are of little effect.
“The safety objectives set out in SOLAS do not seem to be met, and in light of the various recent casualties the time for action is now.”
During the IMO’s 101st Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) meeting in June 2019, IUMI raised its concerns about container ship fires and received support from various quarters, including IACS.
Now, in partnership with the German flag state, IUMI is calling for additional support from flag administrations and other stakeholders to bring this issue to IMO’s agenda in 2020.
In 2017, IUMI published a position paper to raise a variety of concerns including inadequate fire detection and onboard firefighting systems both on deck and under deck; and the need to revise SOLAS. This position paper will provide the foundation for the IMO proposal.
“Our position paper recommends that firefighting systems should be arranged to segregate the ship into fire compartments where the fire can be isolated to prevent it from spreading.
“Onboard systems could then cool the containers and allow them to burn out in a controlled manner.
“Fixed monitors to adequately attack the fire and improved fire detection system are further measures proposed to allow for an appropriate response mechanism.
“Better prevention measures must also address the concerning rise in cargo mis-declaration. The sad reality is that we can no longer sit idle.  Containerships are increasing in size and complexity and this will only exacerbate the problem.”
The IUMI is calling for all stakeholders to work together and encourage IMO to
Chao Wei, ... Stephen Liu, in Handbook of Environmental Degradation of Materials (Third Edition), 2018
Bulk carriers and oil tankers experienced a large number of losses during the 1970s to 1990s. The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) took a multiyear initiative and developed the Unified Requirements (UR) with the aim of improving the structural strength of bulk carriers and oil tankers. Higher levels of corrosion-protection requirements were added during the design stage to account for the confirmed higher levels of wastage due to corrosion, cargo handling, or other causes such as gas released from cargo.
In the 2000s, the IACS developed the Common Structural Rules (CSR), which created the industry standards for building tankers and bulk carriers (IACS, 2016). The IACS CSR was developed on the foundation of first principles, limit state design, identified structural failure modes, applications of advanced analytical tools such as finite-element method, miner’s rules for fatigue damage estimates, etc. The CSR values of corrosion-prevention practices are predefined based on statistical analysis of extensive corrosion wastages records. The wastage allowance that triggers plate renewal are rationalized.
The design, construction, and operation of this type of ship has attracted considerable attention over the years, as it became evident that the speed of loading/discharging as well as the sequence of the holds (where cargoes were loaded/discharged) resulted in structural problems and even catastrophic failures.
As a result of these incidents, the calculations of certain strength members of the ship had to be reviewed, with additional material being introduced in the hull areas that required strength improvements.
The single-deck design format of the cargo holds is that of a totally unobstructed box. This enables the carriage of dry bulk cargoes, such as grain, iron, coal, and concentrates of iron, bauxite, and aluminum.
The cargo holds’ assembly is a rectangular prism [or cuboid], with the accommodation, navigating bridge and engine room arranged at the after end and with the bow arranged at the forward end (Figure 11).
Large bulk carriers usually rely on port facilities for off-loading and these are generally similar to that depicted in Fig. 3.6. Intermediate bulk carriers, however, often have onboard facilities for self-off-loading. Such vessels are often used for the transfer of materials, such as cement, to storage depots at ports for local supply or to off-shore drilling rigs.
Materials are typically transferred from storage holds in the ship by a combination of air-assisted gravity conveyors and vacuum conveying systems, into twin blow tanks located in the center of the vessel. High-pressure air is supplied by onboard diesel driven compressors and materials are conveyed to dockside storage facilities through flexible rubber hose, which solves the problems of both location and tidal movements.
The rate at which these large vessels are lost is a matter of great concern. Between 1973 and 1996 the losses amounted to 375. The fatality rate is likewise disturbing; for the same period it was about 150 per year, one-fifth of the total average loss rate for all shipping. Furthermore, little is known about the manner in which these ships foundered and whether or not thereis a common design fault. Technical aspects of this problem are reviewed by Jubb,9 and Faith10 describes three of the losses in detail.
To date the most thorough investigation of a casualty is that of theDerbyshire. This 170 000 ton ship had been built in 1976 at the SwanHunter shipyard on the River Tyne. In September 1980 she sank during a tropical storm in the South China sea whilst en route from Seattle toYokohama with a cargo of iron ore. All 44 persons on board were lost. Noradio distress call was received, so it is assumed that a sudden catastrophic event occurred. Relatives of the deceased believed at the time that there had been a structural failure due to a design fault, such that the aft portion of the ship had parted from the forward cargo-carrying part. Some engineers shared this view, noting that, amongst other evidence, brittle cracks had been found in the deck plating of one of the Derbyshire’s sister ships. Accordingly the families’ association, with financial support from theInternational Transport Federation, set up an underwater search. In June1994 the wreck was located at a depth of 14 000 ft (just over two and a halfmiles), scattered over a distance of a mile from east to west. At this pointthe available funds ran out. The British government then financed a further search by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute of Massachusetts. Thewreck was fully mapped and it was found that the stern portion was separated from the forward part by a distance of 600 m. This was a clear indication that the ship had sunk in one piece. If the stern portion had separated at the surface it is most unlikely that the forward part, which contained numbers of watertight bulkheads, would have sunk at the same time. It would have remained afloat for some time, driven by the wind, and the two wrecks would have been widely separated. Thus, the structural weakness hypothesis was discounted and attention concentrated instead onthe potential weakness of the hatch covers. The strength of these items was calculated to be about one-tenth that of the deck itself. One small hatch cover was missing and others were stove-in (although this could have happened as the ship was sinking). The sudden inundation of water into acargo hold might well cause the ship to dive like a submarine, precluding any distress signal.
Data will decide success in the next normal of bulk and tanker shipping
COVID-19 and commodity-related trends are likely to depress medium-term demand, but companies that can leverage deep market insights will have the opportunity to outperform in the postcrisis economy.
ulk shipping has been attenuated for the past decade, despite some short-lived rebounds. In the medium term, the impact of COVID-19 and commodity trends is likely to continue to depress demand, dampen rates, and pose a number of other logistical challenges to the bulk and tanker shipping sector.
Even in this challenging environment, however, we see potential opportunities to outperform. Data is more accessible than ever, which means companies can access deep market insights around economic and commodity trends, shipping analytics, and customer information. Industry players that invest in analytics can use data-led insights to seize opportunities in four main areas: finding attractive subsectors and niches, optimizing vessel portfolios, improving commercial choices, and operating existing vehicles more effectively.
The bulk and tanker shipping industry has historically been characterized by more instinctive decision making (based on judgment and experience), so this will require a step change in analytics capability. The investment will be significant, but those companies that fully leverage the new data sources and cutting-edge analytics techniques will be well positioned and resilient in the postcrisis world.
Declining demand has led to sluggish growth in bulk and tanker shipping during the past decade. COVID-19 has compounded many of these issues; the slowdown in global economic growth has further decelerated demand for key bulk commodities, leading to a sustained oversupply of shipping capacity. The bulk shipping market grew at a CAGR of just 1.3 percent between 2015 and 2020, for example, and growth rates are expected to hover at around 0.8 percent per annum until 2030, with the fall in growth driven largely by declining Chinese demand for coal and iron ore.1
Despite slowing demand, the supply capacity of the dry bulk shipping market is expected to continue to increase. Shipbuilding is expected to add 3 to 4 percent to active capacity annually in the next ten years, while decommissioning will remove around 1 to 2 percent. The comparatively low rate of ship scrapping is due both to the relatively young age of the global dry bulk fleet (average tanker ship age is 10.2 years2 ) and to the low price of scrap. Overall, therefore, supply will increase at a CAGR of 1 to 3 percent.
This mismatch between weak demand and growing supply could depress rates over the coming years (Exhibit 1). Rates for dry bulk shipping experienced a surge before the 2008 financial crisis because of the strong demand for many commodities (including iron ore, coal, and grains), but have remained low since, and are not expected to rebound in the coming years.
The tanker shipping sector also faces significant challenges. COVID-19 and a number of recent geopolitical challenges have had a significant impact for major commodities such as crude oil (Exhibit 2). Shipping demand has contracted sharply and—despite a slight short-term rebound—is expected to remain at a low level in the medium term, and then decline further after 2032 as a result of the energy transition. Tanker shipping capacity is likely to grow steadily, driven by a large number of outstanding orders. Again, this low demand growth and steady supply growth will likely lead to a sustained oversupply of tanker shipping capacity in the next five years.Uncertainty around environmental regulation may negate some of the projected excess shipping capacity. There is still a lack of clarity around several environmental questions, including the level of greenhouse-gas reduction targets and the right fuel choice for the future. Ongoing uncertainty might dampen shipbuilding orders by the mid-2020s. This would go some way toward matching industry supply and demand.
Despite the global industry outlook, some submarkets remain attractive (Exhibit 3). Iron ore, for example, is a large, stable, and profitable market—though it will start to shrink during the coming years. Our modeling indicates the Chinese market drives around 70 percent of the global seaborne iron ore shipment. Chinese iron ore imports are expected to fall from 990 million tons in 2019 to 769 million tons in 2030 (a decrease of around 2.4 percent per year), however, because of China’s declining demand for steel, increasing supply of scrap, and rising adoption of the electronic arc furnace.
The global markets for grain and bauxite are also stable and potentially profitable, though they are smaller. Both markets will also grow over the coming years. Soybeans are expected to have a high growth rate, rising from 130 million tons in 2020 to 163 million tons in 2030. Bauxite shipping will grow rapidly in the next five years, and then stabilize. The shape of bauxite supply and demand will also change. Guinea will contribute more than 70 percent of global bauxite exports. China will drive demand, and bauxite is expected to make up 80 percent of Chinese imports from Guinea by 2023.
Data-driven insights such as these on which cargoes are growing and where should be used to inform all commercial decisions (see sidebar “About McKinsey’s trade model methodology”). Shipping companies should fully leverage as many data sources as possible to triangulate and improve accuracy, and should be guided by the following principles.
Be open to new cargo categories and new routes. The shape of global supply and demand is shifting, and shipping companies will need to be ready to adapt. Companies should make sure all routes and types of cargo are in the scope of research, including those with which they are not yet familiar. Companies that can get ahead of developing route or commodity trends may be able to pick up a considerable amount of new business. For example, China accounts for a large proportion of soybean imports, which it currently sources mostly from the United States and Brazil. In the future, however, the evolving global trading environment and domestic policy changes mean that emerging regions are likely to account for an increased portion of China’s soybean imports.
Get closer to customers. Customers are important sources of data and insight. Shipping companies that can cultivate strong customer relationships will have a better chance of understanding their future plans, and therefore of finding ways to serve them—both through core shipping and through value-added services (such as blending and transshipment).
Dredge, large floating device for underwater excavation. Dredging has four principal objectives: (1) to develop and maintain greater depths than naturally exist for canals, rivers, and harbours; (2) to obtain fill to raise the level of lowlands and thus create new land areas and improve drainage and sanitation; (3) to construct dams, dikes, and other control works for streams and seashore; and (4) to recover subaqueous deposits or marine life having commercial value.
Dredges are classed as mechanical and hydraulic. Many special types in both classes, and combinations of the two, have been devised. All types of dredges may have living quarters on board. Though dredges have been constructed to remove many kinds of deposits, the bulk of material removed has consisted of sand and mud.
A dipper dredge is essentially a power shovel mounted on a non propelled barge for marine use. Distinctive features are the bucket and its arm, the boom that supports and guides the arm and is mounted to work around a wide arc, and the mechanism that gives excavating movement to the bucket. A grab, or clamshell, dredge lowers, closes, and raises a single bucket by means of flexible cables. In operation the bucket is dropped to the bottom, where it bites because of its weight and the action of the bucket-closing mechanism. A grab dredge can work at virtually unlimited depths. A ladder dredge employs a continuous chain of buckets rotating around a rigid adjustable frame called a ladder. When the ladder is lowered to the bottom at a slant, the empty buckets descend along the underside to the bottom, where they dig into the mud; the loaded buckets return along the ladder’s upper side and dump at the top. The scraper dredge, also called a dragline, handles material with a scoop suspended from a swinging boom. The scoop is drawn forward by a line attached to the front, while a second line attached to the rear holds the scoop at the proper angle to slice the earth away as the device is pulled along. A hydraulic dredge makes use of a centrifugal pump. In the pump casing, an impeller expels by centrifugal action a mixture of solids, water, and gases. As a partial vacuum is created within the pump, atmospheric pressure on the outside water surface and the weight of the water itself (hydrostatic pressure) both act to force water and suspended solids from the bottom through the suction pipe into the pump. The materials emerging from the pump are conveyed into barges or through another pipe to the shore. Long stakes, called spuds, are frequently used to pinion a dredge to the bottom.
Groin, in coastal engineering, a long, narrow structure built out into the water from a beach in order to prevent beach erosion or to trap and accumulate sand that would otherwise drift along the beach face and nearshore zone under the influence of waves approaching the beach at an angle. A groin can be successful in stabilizing a beach on the updrift side, but erosion tends to be aggravated on the downdrift side, which is deprived by the groin structure of replenishment by drifting sand. Partly to counteract this tendency, often multiple groins are built in so-called groin fields, which can stabilize a larger beach area. See also breakwater; jetty.
Dry dock, type of dock (q.v.) consisting of a rectangular basin dug into the shore of a body of water and provided with a removable enclosure wall or gate on the side toward the water, used for major repairs and overhaul of vessels.
When a ship is to be docked, the dry dock is flooded, and the gate removed. After the vessel is brought in, and properly positioned and guyed, the watertight gate is placed in its seat and the dock is pumped dry, bringing the craft gradually to rest on supporting blocks anchored to the floor.
In older installations, in which the basins were relatively small, the dock structure was built mainly of massive stonework, or in a few instances, heavy timber framing. Later, these materials were supplanted by concrete, first in the ordinary mass form and later reinforced with steel. Modern dry docks are considerably larger in size and correspondingly more complex than their prototypes.
A dry dock gate, with its removable watertight barrier, has many forms and arrangements. In some, two leaves form a mitre gate hinged to the side walls of the dock. In others, the leaves roll on a track into recesses in the dock walls. In still others, a one-piece gate is hinged at the bottom sill so it may be lowered to allow a ship to enter. The type most commonly used, however, is the floating gate, which is held in its seat by its weight when the dock is empty and can be removed simply by floating it out of the way when the dock is filled with water.
While most ship repair work is carried out in stationary dry docks, there are some services that can be performed by mobile or floating structures. The principal such facility, the floating dry dock, is a trough-shaped cellular structure, used to lift ships out of the water for inspection and repairs. The ship is brought into the channel of the partly submerged dock, which is then floated by removing ballast from its hollow floor and walls and draining the dock so that it supports the craft on blocks attached to the dock floor. A typical floating dry dock is built of steel, with a framing system similar to that of a ship, although both timber and reinforced concrete have been used. Floating dry docks ordinarily are operated in sheltered harbours where wave action presents no problem.
Evolution of global marine fishing fleets and the response of fished resources
We independently reconstructed vessels number, engine power, and effort of the global marine fishing fleet, in both the artisanal and industrial sectors. Although global fishing capacity and effort have more than doubled since 1950 in all but the most industrialized regions, the nominal catch per unit of effort (CPUE) has comparatively decreased. Between 1950 and 2015 the effective CPUE, among the most widely used indicator to assess fisheries management and stocks well being, has decreased by over 80% for most countries. This paper highlights the large differences in the development of sectorial fishing fleets regionally. This detailed paper empowers future exploration of the drivers of these changes, critical to develop sector and regionally specific management models targeting global fisheries sustainability.
Previous reconstructions of marine fishing fleets have aggregated data without regard to the artisanal and industrial sectors. Engine power has often been estimated from subsets of the developed world, leading to inflated results. We disaggregated data into three sectors, artisanal (unpowered/powered) and industrial, and reconstructed the evolution of the fleet and its fishing effort. We found that the global fishing fleet doubled between 1950 and 2015—from 1.7 to 3.7 million vessels. This has been driven by substantial expansion of the motorized fleet, particularly, of the powered-artisanal fleet. By 2015, 68% of the global fishing fleet was motorized. Although the global fleet is dominated by small powered vessels under 50 kW, they contribute only 27% of the global engine power, which has increased from 25 to 145 GW (combined powered-artisanal and industrial fleets). Alongside an expansion of the fleets, the effective catch per unit of effort (CPUE) has consistently decreased since 1950, showing the increasing pressure of fisheries on ocean resources. The effective CPUE of most countries in 2015 was a fifth of its 1950s value, which was compared with a global decline in abundance. There are signs, however, of stabilization and more effective management in recent years, with a reduction in fleet sizes in developed countries. Based on historical patterns and allowing for the slowing rate of expansion, 1 million more motorized vessels could join the global fleet by midcentury as developing countries continue to transition away from subsistence fisheries, challenging sustainable use of fisheries' resources.
Marine fisheries support global food security (1), human livelihood, employment (2), as well as global trade (3) and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future with the benefit of wise management.
Understanding fishing capacity is paramount to its management (4) and failure to manage fisheries compromises all of the services these vital resources offer. Although the importance of knowledge of fish stocks is undeniable, it cannot be disassociated from the fishing processes themselves. Catch per unit of effort (CPUE) is still a widely used measure of the well being of a fished stock (5), which cannot be estimated without some measure of the fishing capacity, defined hereafter in its simplest form—the number of existing fishing boats. Although there has been significant work to collect global fishing fleet data, most notably by the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), gaps in the data are nontrivial, and no satisfying method has been found that fills them and allows for comparison or prediction without major and often flawed assumptions (6).
Although progress has been made toward reconstructing the historical size and power of the global fishing fleet (6, 7), several inconsistencies are apparent in the results. This is partially because public records aggregate disparate fishing fleets into one component as if they were easily interchangeable units. It is, however, well understood that global fishing fleets consist of, at least, two separable components: “artisanal” and “industrial,” the former comprising both motorized and unmotorized elements. These components of the fleet, although interacting, are different in their scope and aims (8) and vary vastly in their regional definitions. The industrial fleets are better documented and reported than artisanal fleets (9), specifically how they developed to exploit often distant fish stocks, which could not be fished efficiently by artisanal fishers. Recent technological progress, particularly in electronic monitoring systems, has provided a substantial volume of information on the composition and behavior of the larger components of the industrial fleet (10). In contrast, the extent and impact of the artisanal fishing fleet is underestimated in the literature. This paper aims to strengthen the knowledge of the global marine fishing fleets by reconstructing the number and engine power of artisanal and industrial fishing vessels.
For centuries, fishing vessels used sails and oars as propulsion methods. The introduction of steam-powered trawlers and the subsequent improvements in propulsion had a dramatic effect on the efficiency of fishing vessels, their spatial reach, and on landings; perhaps best documented in the Northern Atlantic (11). Whereas the focus nowadays is on industrial fishing operations, a vast portion of global fishing still occurs at artisanal levels (12, 13). Furthermore, as the research on fisheries is biased toward the developed world, the impact of the unpowered artisanal fishing fleet is often overlooked in academic studies. As up to a quarter of fishing vessels are unmotorized globally (1), neglecting this component of the fleet and its transition through technological advances results in vast underestimates of the impact of fishing, particularly, in the poorest parts of the world. Improved understanding of the motorization of the fishing fleet and taking a step back from focusing almost exclusively on detailed industrial fleets are fundamental for both reconstructing the past and for predicting the future evolution of fishing fleets. In this paper, we compiled data from various sources to fill in the gaps in the knowledge of global marine fishing fleets, particularly, their history and level of motorization, the separation to artisanal (both motorized and unmotorized, referred hereafter as “powered-artisanal” and “unpowered-artisanal”) and industrial sectors, and their fishing effort.
The number of vessels in the global marine fishing fleet doubled from 1.7 in 1950 to 3.7 million in 2015 (Fig. 1A). This increase is heterogeneous across the globe with a drastic increase in the size of the fishing fleet of Asia (defined hereafter as the countries in East Asia and the Indian Peninsula and excluding the Middle East, which were grouped instead with the Maghreb under “Arab World”), only slightly compensated by a fleet reduction in developed countries, such as observed in North America and Western Europe in the 1990s.

Muslim Martyr Sides With Trump, Declares Before Dying: “The US Government Is The #1 Enemy Of Black People!”
By: Sorcha Faal,
A thoughtful new Security Council (SC) report circulating in the Kremlin today first noting that the service life of 50 remaining UR-100N UTTKh (NATO reporting name: SS-19 Stiletto) multi-warhead thermonuclear intercontinental ballistic missiles operational in the Strategic Missile Forces may be extended by three years, says necessitating this defensive measure was Moscow having to warn of “measures” against any Western troop deployment in Ukraine, as Kiev cites guarantees of US support in a conflict—sees these war decisions being made at the same time Supreme Socialist Leader Joe Biden and his warmongers continue to support the Neo-Nazi Government of Ukraine, whose latest outrage against humanity sees them crushing into oblivion their own Russian speaking citizens—all of which is why President Putin has yet to decide if Ambassador Anatoly Antonov will return to his post in Washington after being recalled—and whose destabilizing environment currently existing in America is being best explained by the Canadian geostrategic think tank Global Research, who in their just released document “The Pending Collapse Of The “Rules-Based International Order” Is An Existential Threat To The US” notes with alarm: “There is a defensive tone to Biden’s guidance, which notes that “rapid change and mounting crisis” have exposed “flaws and inequities” in the US-dominated international system which have caused many around the world – including many Americans – to question its continued relevance”.
The questioning of the “continued relevance” of the United States by even its own citizens places it into the category of being a “failed state”—which is one whose political or economic system has become so weak that the government is no longer in control—and in failed state nations like America is becoming, always sees tyrannically ruled over citizens choosing death over life by becoming “martyrs”—who are people that sacrifice life itself for freedom, most often based on their religious beliefs.
In the latest example of this occurring in America, yesterday it saw verified leftist journalists and socialist activists rushing to social media to bet that the man who attacked the Capitol Police, killing one, was a “white Trump supporter”, but they were wrong, as usual—then saw these leftist journalists and socialist activists “suddenly going silent” after the US Capitol Police confirmed the attacker was a member of the Nation of Islam—an attacker shot dead by US Capitol Police named Noah Green, who referred to himself by his Muslim name “Noah X”—said about his Muslim beliefs: “One thing I'm assured everyone can lean on is faith in the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan”—and in his last message posted before dying in a hail of bullets, saw Noah X writing: “The US government is the #1 enemy of Black people!”.
Most important to notice about the final words of Noah X was them echoing those of President Donald Trump, who when first running for office called the leftist news media “an enemy of the American People”, then saw him warning his nation’s black citizens that socialist Democrats see them “only as votes, not as human beings worthy of a better future”, then asked for their vote with the words “What the hell do you have to lose?”—and most remarkably saw one of the few people seeing this connection between Noah X and President Trump being fired and disgraced former FBI Assistant Director Andrew McCabe, who discarded socialist ideology and leftist media talking points after this tragic deadly incident to correctly observe: “I think what’s different here is you’re seeing the playing out of not just a mental illness, but a grievance against the government...I would suggest that is one of the results of what we saw on January 6th”.
A near instant confirmation of former FBI Assistant Director McCabe’s observation of the American people having a “grievance against the government” came in articles appearing yesterday like “FBI Gun Background Checks Soar To Record High In March Amid Gun Control Push”, wherein it noted: “Nearly 4.7 million checks were done across the month, smashing the previous record of 4.3 million set in January”—and to explain why the American people are arming themselves to the teeth against their own government, it becomes more than explainable when reading such insane articles like: “Biological Sex: CNN News Writer Denies The Reality Of Gender Identity At Birth”—“CNN Analyst Fears Americans May ‘Enjoy Freedoms’ Without Getting Covid Jabs, Unless Biden Ties Re-Openings To Vaccination”—and—“Michelle Obama’s ‘Pandemic Is Great Blessing’ Comment Reveals She Sees The Poor As Character-Building Fodder For The Privileged”.
As history has long proven about failed states like America and the former Soviet Union, the access to truthful information by their citizens is what ensures the implosion of socialist governments and the leftist propaganda media structures that supports tyrants—truthful information that sees normal citizens becoming enraged at the lies told to them in order to keep them subjugated—in America today sees its citizens being confronted with such things like President Trump was telling them the truth that sunlight quickly kills the coronavirus, and new studies have confirmed works 8-times faster than scientists believed—and most astonishingly sees the American people today witnessing what has happened to their fellow citizens who have never subjugated themselves to the US government because of their strict religious beliefs—like the Osage Tribe of Native Americans who refuse to take COVID vaccines, wear masks or lock themselves down, and are doing just fine—and the Amish peoples of strict Christian belief who never take vaccines of any kind, never wore masks and never locked down, and have now reached herd immunity with no reported cases among them.
In contrast to those who’ve never allowed themselves to be subjugated by any US government, and who don’t even listen to or read leftist media propaganda, however, are those Americans being shouted at by those like famed writer Naomi Wolf, who is now warning them that socialist vaccine passports “Are The End Of Human Liberty In The West”—further sees them being shouted at by the Holocaust survivors explaining to them how COVID masks are the modern day counterpart to the Yellow Star the Nazis forced Jews to wear as a symbol of being disease ridden sub-humans—and being shouted at by articles like  “Welcome to the Soviet States of Ameristan”, wherein it tells the most obvious truth:
It’s politically correct doublespeak bathed in schizophrenic madness: there was absolutely no fraud in the 2020 election, except for all the fraud that got Biden elected, which should in fact be celebrated!
Our brisk transformation into the Soviet States of Ameristan would be comical if not so disheartening.
In this new country, constitutional rights and protections extend only to those who pretend to play along with the government’s psychoses.
If you nod in agreement that the 2020 election was legitimate, you get to keep your First Amendment “privileges”; if you demur, then the government and its Silicon Valley enforcers delete you.
If you persist by actively protesting for voting rights, then you might find you’ve become a “domestic terrorist” overnight.

STOCKHOLM SYNDROME, SLAVERY AND MILITARY CONSCRIPTION – BEHAVIOURAL MANIPULATION AND CONTROL THROUGH COERCION and FEAR
Tumblr media
“I think a lot about him especially when it comes to my writing or what kind of teacher I want to be. David was fearless and uncompromising of his values in everything and that only pushes me to do better, because I can practically hear his signature critique otherwise.”

A. INTRODUCTION
Tumblr media

Military conscription, slavery and hostage-taking are immorally coercive processes designed to oppress, disorient, intimidate, disenfranchise, affect, subjugate, manage, re-orientate and control the victim’s behaviour and actions. Their basic premise is FEAR or the overwhelming ability or threat by the bully, criminal or aggressor to inflict unimaginable physical or psychological pain/distress or both on the victim. These criminal acts originate from a personal desire by the bully/aggressor/criminal for social, political and or economic advantages. These crimes go against the public interest, and yet, they were and still continue to be framed by the bully as mutually beneficial -  “cooperate and nothing will happen to you.” Or “It’s for your own good. You will like it”
B. DEFINITIONS and CONTEXT
1. Stockholm Syndrome
Tumblr media
Poster for the 2018 movie, “Stockholm.” Image courtesy www.imdb.com
“A psychological response wherein a captive begins to identify closely with his or her captors, as well as with their agenda and demands.” (1)
On Aug 23, 1973, two criminals’ attempt to rob a bank in Stockholm, Sweden led to the taking of 4 hostages. They were only released on Aug 28. However, the victims refused to testify against their kidnappers (2). Perhaps the words of Natascha Kampusch, a victim of another tragic kidnapping may explain this phenomenon :
"I find it very natural that you would adapt yourself to identify with your kidnapper," she says. "Especially if you spend a great deal of time with that person. It's about empathy, communication. Looking for normality within the framework of a crime is not a syndrome. It is a survival strategy.” (3)
“Stockholm Syndrome” could essentially be said as a coping or survival mechanism by the victim, in the light of the prolonged ordeal which she encountered.
"It's some kind of a context you get into when all your values, the morals you have change in some way." – Kristin Ehnmark, a hostage in the 1973 Stockholm bank robbery (4)
2. Slavery
Tumblr media
“A condition in which one human being was owned by another. A slave was considered by law as property, or chattel, and was deprived of most of the rights ordinarily held by free persons.” (5)
Slavery is as ancient as human civilization. In Exodus 9:1, the Lord commanded Moses to tell Pharaoh to “Let my People go….”  From the 16th to the 19th centuries, we learned that Africans were abducted and traded as slaves by the millions to the New World of the Americas. (6) Perhaps unbeknown to many of us, the European colonials were also actively slave-trading in the Dutch East Indies. (7) Slavery’s connection to colonialism, be it European-imposed or localized (8), is undeniable. It was a system of exploitation and discrimination of the human worth in the worst possible way. Slaves were denied their rights to freedom and dignity. This institutionalization of slavery was possible through an elaborate system of governance, laws, customs, education, and other forms of physical, social and psychological coercion, manipulation and restraint. It ensured the total submission of the slave. What was considered immoral or abnormal in one place, was legalized and normalized in another. The slave felt trapped, disenfranchised and helpless. His identity, his very existence, was violently crushed. A new identity was imposed – a tradeable and replaceable product - a slave. Fear, once again was the underlying tool. This time it was wielded by the slave owner and supported by the state.
The American Civil War of 1861-65 was about slavery. I like to highlight an example - the basis for the decision by the State of Mississippi to leave the Union :
“[O]ur position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-the greatest material interest of the world... A blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization….” (9) (10)
This statement should always be remembered, particularly since slavery continues to exist in its various tragic manifestations today, as this title of an Oct 2018 report by the United Nations attests :
With 40 Million Forced into Modern Slavery, Third Committee Expert Urges States to Protect Rights of Women, Girls, Companies Must Remedy Violations (11)
A slave may also be someone we know – an abused live-in partner, worker, child, or hostage. Fear, that potent tool of a criminal, is the favoured modus operandi.
Tumblr media
Our family’s copy of a classic. A great dramatic tale of Southern plantation life, (built and sustained by slave labour) during the American Civil War and Reconstruction era. Hollywood made this into a movie in 1939, starring Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh in the lead roles. (12)
3. Military Conscription
Tumblr media
Image courtesy abc.net.au “Why Australia said no to conscription.”
“Conscription, also called draft, compulsory enrolment for service in a country’s armed forces. It has existed at least from the time of the Egyptian Old Kingdom (27th century bce), but there have been few instances — ancient or modern—of universal conscription (calling all those physically capable between certain ages). The usual form — even during total war — has been selective service.” (13)
Compulsory enlistment or mandated militarized public education is slavery. It presupposes the state, that is, the ruling few, has a claim on the life, freedom, choice and dignity of a citizen, for the public good (I have not encountered any instance where this so-called public good is reasonably and satisfactorily justified. We should thereon read the term “public good” broadly. I submit that in reality, it means for the “good of the self-serving ruling class.”)
Modern conscription may be traced to the Prussian state in the 19th century. (14), (15). This was a period of wars and carnage, including the Napoleonic campaigns, in feudal Europe. (16) The Prussian kingdom deemed it necessary to introduce universal conscription for the security of the “fatherland.” Military expenditure then was said to be as much as 75% of the state’s budget, far above the average of 25% across Europe. In most respects, Prussia could be said to be a militarized kingdom. (17) The French statesman, Count Mirabeau was believed to have said, “Prussia was not a country with an army but an army with a country…” (18) This is a weighty distinction, and it still applies to this day, especially among us who wonder about the youthful soldiers who are shipped far away to another continent to engage in wars in “defense” of their home and country. Or just as curiously, youth who are conscripted and still not allowed to vote or voice their opinion on the matter.
Conscription, especially in peace-time is harmful to the conscript. It is designed to upend the conscript’s identity, with a corollary to establishing a new one, with an affiliation to the military-state apparatus and its agenda. It may be further expressed as follows :
“The tactics of a thought-reform program are organized to:
1. Destabilize a person's sense of self,
2. Get the person to drastically reinterpret his or her life's history and radically alter his or her worldview and accept a new version of reality and causality,
3. Develop in the person a dependence on the organization, and thereby turn the person into a deployable agent of the organization.” (19)
C. CONCLUSION
Tumblr media

Slavery, abduction and conscription have a common feature – the power dynamics overwhelmingly favour the criminal or offender. The methodologies employed are also similar – fear, threat, harm, disenfranchisement, anxiety, intimidation, inducements/rewards and the like. The objectives too coincide – to control, oppress, induce conformity, empathy and helplessness, with a view to “own” the victim. That’s right – a conscript is a slave and a victim too. Abduction is obviously illegal. Slavery, within its traditional definition, is no longer legal. Time also to call out conscription for what it truly is – brain-washing-cum-slavery.
Slavery exists so long as we live in fear.

He'd reached Kozhikode (Calicut, Kerala) in 1498. After this, many Europeans began coming to India for trading. They left their offices and forts in various parts of India. The British East India Company became a Significant force in India. The organization's troops led by Robert Clive defeated the rulers of Bengal in 1757. This battle became famous since the Battle of Plassey. That was the start of British rule, known as the British Raj, in India. In 1764, the Battle of Buxar was obtained by the British forces. After this, the British got control over Bengal, Bihar and Orissa. The Parliament of the United Kingdom passed many laws to help the British East India Company. The Regulating Act of 1773, the India Act of 1784, along with the Charter Act of 1813 were designed to help exchange with India. Ahead of the First War of Independence (1857), Indians in different parts of India had revolted from the British. Many such of the revolts and armed struggles had taken place in this Some examples include: Revolts by many local rulers of Tamil people in southern India like Dheeran Chinnamalai, Veerapandiya Kattabomman. . .etc. In 1825 at Karnataka knitter Rani Channamma along with her lieutenant, Sangolli Rayanna revolted against British Rule. A revolt at 1787 took place in Goa against the rule of Portugal. The history telephone this revolt since the Conspiracy of this Pintos. A rebellion by tribes of Jharkhand in India. Historians call this Santal Rebellion Rebellion under the direction of Titumir in Bengal. India's First War of Independence was a Significant occasion in the history of contemporary India. The Parliament of the United Kingdom withdrew the best of the British East India Company to rule India in November 1858. The United Kingdom began ruling India right through its representative known as the Viceroy of India. It made India a part of the British Empire. They assured"the Princes, Chiefs, and People of India," equal treatment under the British law. The British delivered Bahadur Shah II, the last Mughal Emperor, out of India, and kept him in Rangoon (now called Yangon at Burmese), Burma where he died in 1862. The Mughal dynasty, which had ruled India for about four hundred decades, ended with his passing. The British also took many actions to employ Indian higher castes and rulers into the government. They ceased taking the lands of the rest of the princes and rulers of India. They ceased interference in religious matters. They began employing Indians from the civil services but at reduced levels. They increased the number of British troops and allowed only British soldiers to handle artillery. The rulers of the British Raj made a new law to regulate India, called the Government of India Act 1935. This law targeted at the constitutional process to regulate India. It had three big goals: to establish a federal system with many provinces, to give self-ruling position (autonomy) into the provinces, and also to provide the Muslim minority protection through providing them with some different electorates. In such separate electorates, just Muslims could stand for elections. In February 1937, elections took place for the provincial assemblies. The members of the Indian National Congress won in five provinces and held the top position in two more provinces. The Muslim League's operation in the election was not good. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (also known as Mahatma Gandhi) had received his education in London. He had been a barrister (attorney ). In 1893, he went to South Africa. After Gandhi was thrown off a train since he was a coloured man sitting in a seat that was first-class, he took that emotion and utilized it to begin to resist the injustices that many people of colour faced at the time. He became successful and the authorities of South Africa eliminated most of these rules and restrictions. Gandhi led the Salt March, an act of protest. When Gandhi returned to India in 1915, few people understood him. Under the leadership of Gandhi, Indians began to use a different method to get freedom during the upcoming few decades. On 8th August 1942, the leaders of the Indian National Congress Party fulfilled in Bombay (Mumbai). The leaders adopted a policy to force the British out of India. Gandhi's motto"Do or Die" became a national slogan, along with the movement became the Quit India Movement. At the start of the Second World War, the Indian National Congress Party had supported the British, but they'd demanded freedom for India following the war. The British didn't agree with this suggestion. On 14th July 1942, the Indian National Congress Party passed a resolution demanding complete independence from the British rule. But this did not have the support of some other political parties. Gandhi had requested the people to keep the Quit India Movement as a peaceful movement. Many people started the movement in several places in India. But in a few places, the movements turned violent. Gandhi refused to eat until the violence ceased. He was successful in stopping the violence. The British action was very quick. They arrested over 100,000 people. They levied fines on many people. They dropped bombs on the people who demonstrated against the British Raj. The British arrested all of the leaders of the Congress Party. Gandhi's wife, Kasturba Gandhi, died during detention, in addition to his secretary Mahadev Desai. Gandhi's health had become quite bad. In 1944, the British set him free fearing that Gandhi's death might bring about a very large protest by Indians. Gandhi continued to oppose both the British and demanded that all other leaders be set free. The Second World War had reduced the economic, political, and military strength of the British Empire. They were also aware that following the war Indians would start a bigger movement for independence. The disposition of the British people and the British Army had changed. Following the Second World War, most of these were no longer willing to support the British ruling class in India. That position was now clear to the leaders of the United Kingdom. By early 1946, those leaders set free all the political prisoners held in India and started independence talks with the Indian National Congress Party. On the 14th of August 1947, Pakistan gained independence and a day later on the 15th of August India gained its independence as well (Our independence day). Gandhi with Lord and Lady Mountbatten, 1947: On midnight of 15th August 1947, Britain handed India its formal political Independence. A brief time then, Gandhi, that was aging and sick, died from a bullet fired by a Hindu extremist named Nathuram Godse. The national direction was subsequently passed to his main lieutenant, Jawaharlal Nehru. On 3rd June 1947, the Viceroy Lord Mountbatten announced partition of India into two states: the union of India, and an Islamic Pakistan. In this partition, many people died while others had been separated from their own families. On 26th January 1950, India adopted its constitution, the longest constitution in the entire world. Bhaskar N Raju, Divyasree - India's Transformational Leader 2019
Bhaskar N Raju, Divyasree - India's Transformational Leader 2019
Interview: Bhaskar N Raju, Managing Director Divyasree Years of working in the industry, your contribution reflects versatility and volubility. What has influenced your decision making process at various stages?
The ever-present need to push the envelope; to develop better, smarter and greener; to stay relevant; this I feel is the single most important driver for us at DivyaSree, and for the industry as a whole.
This necessity has influenced industry trends and certainly acted as a catalyst in our journey of growth, steering the company to do things differently than others; to pursue innovation; to selectively seize opportunities; to decide to expand our footprint across the southern markets of the country. The informed demand of clients familiar with international standards has also influenced our decision-making and methodology – we’ve introduced futuristic concepts throughout our process, from designs concepts to materials to execution to delivery and beyond, so as to make the spaces we develop more focused on user experience and delight. A project or an accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your career? To single out a particular step in an eventful journey would be difficult, since every day at DivyaSree has been truly memorable. I would however make special mention of the following: Our first foray into the development space itself; our very successful drive towards multi-city, multi-asset growth; our ventures into the international SEZ space as a pioneer; our collaboration with governments; the lead we took on developing our much-sought-after townships; and most of all the singular and enduring partnerships we have built and sustained with several multi-location corporate clients. In fact, DivyaSree has achieved 99% occupancy across its portfolio which caters to over 150,000 employees, including 8 Fortune500 companies, and over 65 Blue Chip clients!
Tumblr media
Bhaskar N Raju Managing Director Divyashree Builders   How do you integrate corporate philanthropy or corporate social responsibility as a part of your business strategies? Our CSR Policy is designed to take social/ economic responsibility for the welfare and sustainable development of communities in and around DivyaSree’s areas of operation, and it meets need-based requirements in other parts of the country. We are also conscientious about the environment in which we and our stakeholders live, work and play, and it is no wonder that we have been the recipient of several LEED certifications from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). We intentionally focus on the environmental side in our CSR activities, considering it a sacred obligation to preserve and conserve for the future. This is evidenced by our advocacy of sustainability measures like flexible heating and cooling solutions, monitoring and regulation of power consumption, deployment of energy-efficient electrical appliances and sanitation fixtures, and several other ways to conserve and efficiently use natural resources. What has been your driving force or philosophy in life? For me it has been very simple: Always move forward and upward, keep learning, and never ever give up. What are the other philanthropic works you are involved in? Would not prefer to elaborate, but there are several projects that are close to my heart that I offer my resources of time, talent and treasure to help make life better for others. The environment is also something thing that I endeavor to support through CSR activities, while responding to requirements as and when called upon to do so. I consider it a sacred obligation to preserve and conserve for the future.  How do you define success and how do you measure up to your own definition? Success is when you are more relevant to your customer than the competition, and thus attract accolades both as a leader and as an organisation. I’d like to allow a few of our clients to speak here: "Your professionalism and customer-centric obsession has truly distinguished DivyaSree Group.” - Juggy Marwaha, Jones Lang LaSalle "Your team has helped create immense value for clients and establish lasting partnerships.” - Ram Chandnani, CBRE India “The involvement of the entire management team in ensuring end-to-end support is truly commendable.” - N. Krishnaswamy, EYGBS (India) "DivyaSree became the obvious choice for us with their willingness to support our unique needs, and a never-say-no attitude.” - Venkatramana B, Landmark Group Talk about a recent project or solution to a problem that you have made better, faster, smarter or less expensive? As property developers, we are acutely aware of the changing needs of an evolving economy and ecosystem, and we evolve by incorporating customer feedback, suggestions and even vision. ‘Doing more with less’ is not simply applicable to a single project or solution; it must become part of corporate policy. So we continually explore avenues to harness exciting technological advancements to create automation, resource management and other systems that enhance cost effectiveness, comfort, quality and sustainability. There are and will continue to be advancements in technology, so to embed excellence into each of our successive projects, we stay ahead of the curve by adopting new technologies, adapting them to suit, and incorporating them. Innovation being in our DNA, we welcome such breakthroughs as aids to achieving our vision: That of delivering world-class spaces that are not just functional and cost-effective, but also intelligent, disruptive and experiential. In your opinion what is the most significant aspect of leadership? Leading by example, not just for a time, but all the time. Your perception of an empowered society. How far your industry has/ can contribute for the same? An empowered society is healthy, happy and above all, sustainable. Our industry is seeing a move away from the beaten path, towards more environmentally sound practices. Sustainability has become the focus globally, not only for the real estate industry but also for its customers. Hence, there is an increased need to embed sustainability throughout the development process, right from the design stage to the construction stage, and even through service and maintenance stages.  For example, design decisions (like optimizing air flow and natural lighting to minimize electricity consumption) influence the sustainability performance of the construction, operation and maintenance phases. Designing of room size considering tile size can reduce the number of tiles wasted in construction. This is value engineering at relatively lower costs, at the design stage itself. Similarly, the contracting, planning, construction and control phases can be addressed to ensure sustainability, and this has a greater impact on the finished project, resulting in long-lasting benefits for all stakeholders.  Many of DivyaSree’s developments have been awarded the coveted LEED India Gold and Silver ratings, further endorsing our belief that sustainability not only makes our developments more efficient and economical, but is also in the best interests of our customers and the environment. Small steps that can, if adopted across the industry, make a sizeable difference to the big picture of societal empowerment.

Bhaskar N Raju Managing Director Divyashree Builders PERSONAL GRID One thing you wish to change and one thing you wish to retain about your industry? The industry is on the right track, I feel, with its drive towards cleaner and greener methods. I would like to see more emphasis on and initiatives towards housing for all/ affordable housing. Whom do you owe your success to? I have received life lessons from many people and situations. It would be inappropriate to attribute my professional success to one (or a few) of these. I believe that I have learned the most from mentors through my career. Best thing about your job? At DivyaSree, we do it all; all day, every day. And there is always something new to learn, to experience, to create, to develop. The excitement never stops, and the satisfaction of exceeding expectations never fails to uplift. A message from you to all the future entrepreneurs/ leaders? Stay relevant to your customers. Stay attentive to their requirements. Stay focused on your goals. Read the full article

twitter & unlatch.
i guess it's time to get a gun permit & gun, then buy some bullets & shoot myself in the head.
this job robs me of all life juice, but it's the only thing i thought i was good at. & now life shows me that the branch becomes futureless.
it's all about profit & the people who suffer most under the economical cuts are the working ones. mental & physical health are affected.
the pay is lousy in comparison to what u are performing & still u try to make ends meet even tho u are running on lowest battery life.
& then the managers come to u & tell u you have to make more cuts, moremoremore, & there u are, dieing inside, cause there's no other option.
u know in other companies it's the same, there is no exception anymore, & no 1 values ur knowledge & education. all they want is low wage.
meanwhile the last 1s standing are working their asses off, loose every bit of mental stability & break down their bodies for nothin'.
& u wonder, when's ur turn, when will u be 2 expensive for them, & what are u gonna do when u are the 1 without a job. i personally never...
want 2 work in retail ever again, but it's all i know & perform well enough in. i don't have no escape plan. i can't start a new path...
2 much liabilities & commitments are on my plate. when i think of all the pressure happening in the future. i don't work well under stress.
so i guess it'd be better to just end all of this... just freedom awaits me after my death, no consciousness  - a blissful thought...
/////
i am just so tired of it all, trying to find a compromise, trying to find something i’m good at which would help me find a new job. but all i come up with is this fucking job, i don’t have any other options, except change to the same job at an equally awful company or generally the sales branch. i don’t want to serve others anymore, there’s a lack of humanity that’s increasing every year, & customers are awful, HUMANS are awful, but there’s no job in which you don’t have to deal with them.
i just want to work at a place where the work you are providing is still honoured adequately, where you don’t have to fear employee cuts & other stressors, where customers are understanding, not difficult as fuck and lashing out their own inscurities onto the ‘minor sales clerks’. i want to not be under continual stress anymore, wondering about how you will possibly manage all the work, not ever doing any breaks. wondering if you will have to do all the work all on your own soon, as your colleagues either have to go or just simply are so fed up with everything they decide to give up and move on.
i would do that, too, but i KNOW, i just KNOW, that no matter where i go, the same problem is EVERYWHERE, and it won’t get better. there’s no new blood coming, no one wants to work in an underpaid environment, where pressure’s put on you constantly, everyone wants to earn money without having to get their hands dirty & their backs strained & having to endure the constant nagging demands of customers & bosses. people want to study easy things, want to make art, want to live off of their brain content, they want to sit down & do as little as possible for a high wage.
i’m so sick of it. but i’m trapped.
i have to pay off a new fucking car ( i was almost done with my old one until it broke down ), i have to pay insurances, i have to pay food and a roof above my head, and i can’t just simply quit my job, and risk an unstable one at a different company. but i also cannot stay where i am now. i’m going to loose my mind sooner or later. and there is no way i could do something totally different, as i am a saleswoman, & only good in this profession, nothing else. i do not have a talent or special thing that could warrant to try myself out in a completely different field. i cannot afford starting a new educational path, apprenticeships don’t pay my rent & all the stuff i have to pay for. academic studies don’t pay that either.
i really am at a loss of what to do. i want to go so badly, i want to leave it behind, but i see no solution.
and then i get that sense of freedom when i think about death, and not having to worry anymore, because, duh, there are no feelings, everything is inexistent. it feels like a very appealing thought. but what kind of person am i then, especially to the people who brought me into this world, or the very few people that i call friends, even though i am a terrible one. should i leave them behind just like that? what sorrow would i bring upon them, if i killed myself.
i just know 1 thing. i feel helpless. i feel terribly alone. i have no idea anymore how to continue without losing my nerves & mind completely, while trying to complete my work with less & less support, but more requirements from ‘above’. i don’t want to end up on the street either, and who knows how long my current employer will be a pawn in the game of retail chess, until they finally tell us, hey, it’s been okay, but we are out of the game, we cannot sustain anybody anymore, buh-bye.
because it is starting. the signs are clear. people are being removed.
and above all, the hypocrisy of it all makes me want to throw up. don’t you tell people you are a company who wants to be a fair player in the corporate world, and then be unfair to your employees. don’t you DARE telling people, you want a green world, a world without deceits & more sustainability, but then go a whole different path in your company culture. fucking liars.
and i look at all companies in this country. they are all not very different from each other.
see, it is a problem for me, to ‘just go and apply for something different’. it’s a hurdle for me. because all i have to offer is the education & experience i have, but i lost all faith in the branch i work in. everything. and seeing the bigger picture, oh lord, it isn’t that far off either.
so. what am i supposed to do? give up and giving in to sweet inexistence, or fight, but still coming out incredibly bruised & battered & wary of the world, not trusting a single soul out there? what life is that, i ask you? a life in which you are made even smaller than you already are?
there’s nothing, really, there’s nothing else i can hold on to. i don’t want to underperform, it’s against my own pride & ego. but inherently, this will be what i’m going to do, because i cannot & don’t want to work myself to death. i’d rather kill myself than do this. i’ve had enough. i don’t want to show them anymore what a good worker i am. i am fed up with their nasty schemings. i am fed up with people treating you as some kind of inferior stupid sales person who has to serve them gold & silver on a plate, and if you don’t do that, you are THE persona non grata forever and always.
i am fed up with this society.
fed up with myself, as i also can’t seem to attract any blessings into my life... fed up with myself for not giving in & accepting my life as it is, being thankful for the things that i have ( which is not very much, when i think about it, even though it might be enough for others ). fed up with myself for wanting more & less at the same time, for being a ‘privileged white person’ with first world problems, that at the same time are problems i cannot find a solution for.
i want to scream. and never stop. and die while doing so. i feel like i need to go berserk, run amok, or just end my life quietly.

Technical Analysis Seminar
by Coach Ramir LIbre
2-5pm Accelerate Bldg, Makati
------------------
#RAMIR LIBRE -life coach -BADA -Adam Khoo Academy#TOPICS/AGENDA -what is Technical Analysis -technical vs fundamental -read charts like a pro -types of charts -<and more>
#Technical Analysis -is the study of of market action, primarily through the use of charts for the purpose of forecasting future trends#TA? -why does the price of a good stock still fall? -bottom or top -best time to buy and sell -how to identify uptrend and downtrend -<and more na di ku na nasulat>
#FA VS TA FA: -view from financial statements -best employed for long term -data employed for long term investment -data utilized comes out periadically -focus on what must happen -tends to focus on specific sector
TA: -view from charts -best for short term -and more n di ku na nasulat
----- TIP:what are potentially booming stocks in the future? WLCON ------
#BASIC ASSUMPTIONS TA: 1. The market discounts everything. This is one of the strongest assumptions in TA. Here, we assume that all publicly available information is already “priced-in” or reflected in the stock price. Our assumption is that when market players get information, they react to it by either buying or selling shares. Because of this, supply and demand will immediately adjust along with the stock’s price.Any news, disclosures, or announcements won’t matter anymore because the market is always a step ahead. You can never have any “new” information that the market didn’t already account for,2. Prices move in trends.Technical analysts believe that price movements are not random. They will always move in some general direction, whether upward, downward, or sideways. For example, if a certain stock’s price is increasing, then it is more likely that the price will continue to increase. If the price is going down, then it is more likely that the price will continue to go down. The trend can be short-, medium-, or long-term, but prices always tend to move in one direction and are more likely to continue that trend rather than move randomly.3. History repeats itself.People behave in a predictable way. Because of this, similar events and information are usually met with similar reactions. Bad earnings will make people want to sell, expansion plans will make people want to buy, and so on.This allows us to use past market data and chart patterns to predict future price movements and market behavior.-------- TIP: sino malalakas s administrasyon and nakakakuha ng projects? SO BANTAYAN -SMC -Chelsea ------- TIP: SECB is a fundamentally good stock ------
📒more than 1.19% dapat kita nyo para di kau lugi pag binenta

#BASIC MARKET TRENDS
Tumblr media
*uptrend -higher high + higher low *downtrend -lower high + lower low *sideways
📒to write trend lines, pwede s ilalim pwede sa baba(at least 3 poitns. ok lang me lampas ng konti)
---- TIP: CHIB fundamentally okay naman xa ----
<nb>wag sagarin yung resistance(basta ok na within that range.hindi naman xa lagi sumasakto.basta happy kana iwas sa greed)
#SIDEWAYS -or consolidation Consolidation is the term for a stock or security that is neither continuing nor reversing a larger price trend
<impt>ung mga tatanggalin sa index iwan. ung bagong ipapalit sa index, bilin kasi tataas yan dahil din sa mga institutional buyers(people with index and mutual funds, insurance holders with mutual funds, etc).companies din sa index ang sino sought out ng mga foreign insvestors(more demand, higher price)
#SUPPORT AND RESISTANCE (example: pag untog s ceiling(resistance) dahil s sobrang pag angat or pagtalon) support: pagbagsak sa floor at wala ng ibaba kasi nga sahig n yon(support).

signal 2. green candle dumikit/or tagos ung tail s trendline. oks lang. (where to find: #1 section,2nd green candle) buy? yes.
signal 3.candle body and tail lampas ng trendline. go. (where to find: #1 section, 3rd,4th,5th green candle) buy? yes.
#<nb><impt>RISK AND REWARD RATIO know ur ratio.kelangan mo to especially pag unstable ung stock(di ka sure s galaw mu)
REWARD = target sell price(near resistance level or basta sa price n to happy kana)-buy price
RISK = buy price - cut loss price(when it lowered, this is price your willing to let go of the stock)
risk:reward
Tumblr media
#SELL DURING BREAKOUT(BASAK SUPPORT)
Tumblr media
<nb> dont chase stocks that are too high already
#BUY CONDITIONS 1(hindi ko nasulat)
2pullback(breakout after retracement) (pullbacks are short term, reversals are long term. challenge would be if a pullback is actually part of a reversal)
3 buy after breakout
---- TIP PLDT situation. why low -what style they use? -non traditional competition -no future expansion -noong araw di ka mabubuhay ng walang telepono -poor service -----
#<nb><impt>JOURNAL record: -what you buy and sell(date, amount) -% gain -success or fail -what startegies and conditions you use -*why you bought that trade and possibilities vs happened reality -if fail, what are your mistakes <mine lang ung asterisk>
#ECONOMIC MOTE (stability like a king's castle before, castle inn the water with crocodiles. para di agad malusob/malupug) -MER(meralco) and -utility -consumer stocks during hard times kc hindi basta basta bumabagsak
<nb>if bibili ng pababa, hintayin mag stabilze (lumakas ung support)
#MOVING AVERAGE -u dont need additional indicators. additional indicators if you need confirmation
-50,150 and 200 SMA -should be slopping up -(as per ramir ok lang din di na magcross ung shorter s longer basta malapit s sma n nagseserve as support, oks na magbuy) -SMA can serve as support and resistance levels
-do not use for sideway trend
---- TIP:WHY NOT EMA? -mas malaki ung weight -so simple moving average can be a strong support or resistance -----
<nb><impt> therefore u have 2 easy signals:
moving average + trendline/support resistance line(ung line na me at least 3 points)
<qoute> dont blame yourself for selling too early. ok na ung me kita ka na.
---- TIP: bakit malakas ang san miguel? -airport, airline, highways. nagdiversify kahit hinid ng expansion. -malakas s admin at nakakakuha ng projects ----
