when Gideon the Ninth was released, it sold out at my local bookstore and we had to go on a drive to obtain it - nearly an hour each way, during which my partner - for terrible & inscrutable reasons of their own - elected to subject me to the greatest hits of Hootie & the Blowfish. I told Tamsyn Muir about this (via this very website) and she commiserated, but a day or two later she messaged me to say she'd reconsidered, that Hootie & the Blowfish were actually "rad" (exact quote), and my partner was therefore completely in the right.

Extreme throwback to 2008 when I was reminiscing about 1995:

I recently said "Robotech was my first anime with mass unaliving onscreen" but I was wrong, that honor clearly went to Gatchaman (known to us then as G Force) with hordes of evil craigslist mooks getting viciously wiped out by five guys in bird suits when their secret base/giant robot came crashing down every episode

EDIT: I forgot about the mass unaliving of civilians/military by said giant robot which typically took place in the first few minutes. I'm surprised the Earth's population in the show hasn't gone down a notch every few episodes
