his first thoughts upon meeting y/n is that literally nothing could be worse. he could be boiling alive in one of meatsweat's fancy culinary stews and be less bothered by that than having to endure not one, but TWO LEOS

there goes the fleeting days of being able to complete his work in peace and quiet; o call back yesterday, bid time return

really tho, all his eye rolling and indifference is just an act that he refuses to let up on (he has a REPUTATION to uphold after all!!)

it doesn't take much time for donnie to warm up to y/n though; he's more or less used to his twin's antics and smug behavior and with y/n being almost exactly the same, it's like they've known each other their whole lives

he chalks it up to being comfortable with the familiar, but his brothers can definitely see it for what it is: a crush

he enjoys the competitive tension between y/n and him, it keeps him on his toes and gives him a boost when he feels out of it and needs the motivation

doesn't much care for the whole ego thing, but it doesn't bother him as bad as leo's does; at least y/n has good reason to be as cocky as they are. they're funny, they're charming, they're cool, they're incredibly perceptive

in fact, he's secretly made a list of all the good qualities y/n has and all the things he likes about them… it's like a whole 10 spreadsheets worth of data

to be fair, he does keep a similar list for his brothers and april, so it's not like he's stalking y/n or anything; it's just his way of "bonding" with his loved ones

but y/n's list is a lot longer than anyone else's; there's just so much to like about them. it only makes sense that their list of good traits happens to match up pretty well with his list of "things to look for in a potential mate" (a secret list that he will take to his grave)

whenever they go on missions, he makes sure to fit y/n in all his latest gear he's made them for their protection; they might talk big game, but donnie still has to take precautions!

he may or may not have taken y/n on a few purple dragon-related missions - AKA "let's go put whipped cream in all of their hard drives and cover their hideout in tinfoil wrapping just to fuck with them"; turns out that the police do not find it funny

"let me just say for the record that nothing's illegal unless it can be proven beyond reasonable doubt. and you can't prove that y/n and i were there so…"

y/n ain't no snitch, so don can trust them to keep their mouth shut if anyone ever gets suspicious of their misdeeds; this also makes them his go-to for some of the more emotionally heavier things that he can't talk to his brothers about

yeah, donnie's not great with emotions, but that doesn't mean he doesn't feel them - he genuinely finds y/n to be a comforting presence, especially considering their amazing emotional perception and how well they can read him

he finds it much easier to work when y/n's hanging around the lab with him; they don't have to interact much, all it takes is a visit from y/n and he's hit with a burst of motivation

gets more work done with y/n around than he usually does and takes advantage of this productivity by making y/n stay with him for literal hours even if they don't actively take part in his work

he's even made them a little corner with all of their favorite things in the lab so they can keep busy while he works; they might be good for motivation and all, but he knows better than to leave y/n alone with one of his inventions considering their… impulsive behavior (rip stun-bo feature, we hardly knew ya)

"w-what, leaving? you can't leave yet! i've only just started on this upgraded micro-transmitter for the tank and i need your help! what do you mean you just sit there for hours doing nothing? that's entirely false, you are helping me out immensely! now sit right there and don't touch anything until i tell you to-"

their easy-going nature really complements his more rigid and particular personality; together, they are an unstoppable and wildly chaotic duo

he might be the funniest turtle of the group, but y/n has him in tears with their lame little jokes and one-liners; he mostly only laughs at the roasts and teases directed at his brothers though

overall, his brothers have an ongoing bet over how long it'll be before donnie finally realizes he has a MAJOR crush on y/n; leo has his bets on "not in my lifetime", april predicts it'll be sometime after casey jr's time, mikey's a little more generous and says "maybe in the next decade or two", and raph is just fed up with it and wants it over with NOW

The buzzing and whirring of various tools occupied the otherwise silently uneventful lab as Donatello worked away on his latest project, completely absorbed in his work. Tucked away in the corner, sitting snug in the soft embrace of a plush beanbag, Y/N busied themselves with another round of Smash Bros on their purple (totally not Genius Built branded) Switch. Most days in the lab were spent in comfortable silence, as the purple coded brother did his best work when there were minimal distractions. But for Y/N, that meant keeping all audible cries of excitement or groans of defeat to a minimum while gaming. And sure, that was a reasonable request for a while, but had it really already been four hours?! As Y/N glanced down at their phone for the time, they let out a loud, heavy sigh as boredom overwhelmed their usually active mind.

"Don, how much longer do I gotta sit here? I'm practically dying of boredom. I'm terminal now. Terminal!" They slumped themselves back over the cushion, causing it to wheeze under the shifted weight.

"Just a few minor adjustments left and we'll be as good as gold." Donnie hadn't even looked up from the tester bot he was tinkering with, something which Y/N met with a frustrated scowl.

"And by a few, you mean…?"

"I still need to work on recalibrating the external displays to account for the large-"

"UUUGH, no, how long! I've been here so long that my leg's've atro- asta-… ASTROFIELD!"

Donnie could hardly contain the snort that sounded from under his welding mask.

"I think the term you're looking for is 'atrophied' and no, I seriously doubt that the mere act of sitting is enough to deteriorate muscle tissue."

"Whatever. I'm dying here and you wanna lecture me on-"

They were interrupted by the soft thudding of approaching footsteps, the unmistakable sound of Raph entering the lab.

"Heya, D. Y/N. Sorry to barge in on y'all, just wanted to check in and see if y'guys needed anything. It's been, uh… A while and it's gettin' dark so-"

"Raph, will you tell Dorkie here to quit holdin' me hostage and let me go? He's been keeping me prisoner here and I haven't even gotten my one phone call!" Y/N teased. Their moniker was successful in tearing Donnie's attention away from his desk across the room to shoot them a bitter glare.

"Heh, y'know Y/N, you could leave anytime you wanted, right? It's not like he's actually gonna trap you here. Er… Right?" Raphael's playful expression tinged itself with a hint of concern as he, for a moment, considered the possibility of a hostage negotiation with his little brother.

"Nah, I'm actually good here. I just want something more to DO when I'm here. I can't just be here for moral support, y'know." They stuck their tongue out at the softshell as they rolled themselves off the bag and plopped softly onto the tile floor.

The eldest mutant scratched at the back of his neck with a chuckle. Of course Donnie would tell them it's for 'moral support'.

"Uh, Y/N. You do know he only really keeps you in here because he's got a thing for you, right? That whole moral support thing's a load of crock."

It was at that moment that the ambient hum of tools stopped and tense silence flooded in its place. Y/N propped themselves up on elbows and craned their neck towards Donatello who sat faced away from them with tense shoulders bunched up.

Sensing the awkward situation he'd now put them in, Raph let out a small hiss of regret between his teeth and slowly shuffled his feet back towards the door.

"Riiight… So, you guys good? Yeah? Yeah. I'm gonna just-"

And with that, he practically bolted for the door, leaving Y/N and Donnie to stew in the thick air of their own embarrassment.

"D-Donnie…" Y/N could barely squeak, their eyes fixed to the empty doorway as if they were pleading for Raph to come back and take the awkward with him.

Donnie took in a sharp breath and in one swift motion, pushed his work chair back and spun to face his companion with only his iron-will keeping him from running out of the lab himself.

"I-" He started, his face dark red and his lip quivering with anxiety as his mind parsed through the many scenarios in which this sort of confession could've gone.

"I knew it couldn't have been just for my good looks." Y/N's smug grin and flirtatious wink did little to alleviate the mutant's humiliation.

"Huh?"

"For the record…" Scooting up to Donnie's hunched form, Y/N gently took his hands into theirs and kept their gaze locked to the floor as the faintest blush dusted their cheeks, "I have a thing for you too."

Out of every scenario he'd managed to file through, this one was one outcome he didn't anticipate. But one he would happily accept.

so i've been wondering if you have any tips on writing characters in general. i feel like everytime i write, they're all the same (their internal dialogue are hardly different from each other) and rather boring and bland. do you have any advice for this issue? thanks <33

Hi, thanks for asking! It's a common challenge for writers, myself included, to create characters who feel vivid and distinct on the page—especially when there's a particular type of character that I enjoy writing more. This induces reluctance to explore and can make characters too similar in their mannerisms, quirks, and speech. Here are some tips to help you develop more dynamic characters:

Create detailed character profiles: Before you start writing, take some time to flesh out your characters. Think about their backgrounds, personalities, motivations, fears, desires, and quirks. The more you know about your characters, the easier it will be to make them unique.

Give each character a distinct voice: Pay attention to the way each character speaks and thinks. Consider their education, background, and personality when crafting their dialogue and internal monologue. Each character should have their own vocabulary, speech patterns, and mannerisms (see my post on character voices for more!).

Focus on contradictions: People are complex, and characters should be too. Think about the contradictions within each character. Maybe they're confident in public but insecure in private, or they're fiercely independent but secretly crave companionship. These contradictions add depth and realism to your characters.

Use character flaws: Flaws are incredibly important. They make characters more relatable and multidimensional, causing internal conflict and affecting their decisions, actions, and relationships. Log of the Multiverse: Nightmare

hoo boy i got shivers just writing down their name.

i'm doing their entry before dream's because, like ink, i'll let him write his own. too bad he's so incredibly busy all the time

now nightmare, his brother, the guardian of negativity. they're terrifying. i can't believe they're dream's twin. they hardly even look like a skeleton.

Thankfully they're nowhere NEAR as active as Dream is. in fact, it's a rare sight to see them for the average person. unfortunately i'm with a group of loony people that happen to be the only people nightmare would seek out from time to time.

i actually got a sticky note i wrote on after i encountered them for the first time

[there's a somewhat crumpled sticky note taped on, it reads:

their touch hurts, presumably because of the goop (speaking of goop. no idea what it's made out of). reminds me of the time i spilt hydrochloric acid on my foot on accident. however, it doesn't actually leave a wound or lasting pain, like touching fire without getting burned

you’ll know they're near when you get a heavy feeling in your soul, similar to blue magic but if it hated you.

negative feelings fuel them. it’s like their food. would being happy drive them away?

they don't kill as long as they find you useful apparently im “a cesspool of anxiety and guilt that provides a plentiful amount of energy”. i hope they choke on my feelings.]

i forgot about that last bit. moving on

they've caused quite a bit of commotion back in their peak. they were on par with error in terms of disturbing universes. they just had. different methods (such as, killing loved ones in front of people, making people live out their worst fears, spilling people's very important secrets, manipulating people who are close to hate each other, ruining the happy endings of many universes) they're a lot more sadistic than error. i suppose that makes sense. they ARE the guardian of negativity.

now i was still in my universe while that was happening, i'm just paraphrasing what ink told me.

and then they just suddenly cut back. they stopped doing all of that.

ink expected this, obviously. he knew how their script goes. (of course he cant TELL me what happens in his script. he can only drop hints and even then he tries not to, to play it safe)

what i do know is that the balance between negativity and positivity is Very much out of wack. what i don't know is what the consequence of that is. yet.

I'm gonna go on a limb and say it's nothing good and buckle up for the ride.

wow it sure sucks knowing something bad is gonna happen and being powerless to stop it. how the hell does ink do it.

side note: ive been calling them the "guardian of negativity" but i don't actually know what that entails. same with dream's title as "guardian of positivity". honestly i don't think either of them know either.

i guess dream's positive all the time, like he can't even feel negative emotions

oh my god im stupid. he literally can't, can he?

then that would mean nightmare cant feel positive emotions. that's. wow. huh.

wearing a shirt during sex to signify a lack of power in smut - gn trifecta 2023

the fics i'm going to talk about are all georgenap fics i wrote this year, and i consider them while different in their own way essentially the same fic because of the formula of writing it and also this key detail of the eventual smut of each long oneshot

nbd + when we're older, + maple syrup (your purple sweater)

this was made half-seriously with milo @daydreamdnn but basically it shows how each fic has their similarities but dumbs down to roughly the same kind of vibe. anyways onto the shirts...

nbd:

nbd is probably the least angsty of all of the fics because george's anguish throughout is seen as pretty silly by the reader and you know it's gonna have a happy ending so you're not really concerned. in the fic, however, george's position is dire to him. seeing sapnap get with a girl is a huge hit to his ego and he finds himself incredibly insecure in general but also just in regards to his place with sapnap. so george keeps his shirt on for their first time even though he's all dominant and in control because he's not actually running the show or in power, the whole fic the power has belonged to sapnap. george keeping his shirt on during the smut really has little to do with the smut despite the fact that sex is a big intimate thing and george keeping his shirt on shows that he's not ready to be that vulnerable with sapnap yet, he knows he has power over him. he learned that well from this.

when we're older:

when we're older is next angstiest for sure. a lot goes down between those two and i was actually surprised to see this wasn't the one where they're both shirtless until i thought about it a bit more and it makes sense. this fic is split 2/2 in sapnap/george scenes and in the sapnap scenes he's pretty earnestly treated like shit by george so the whole fic he has these lingering trust issues with him that even go past their smut scene. after they have sex sapnap still doubts that george loves him even though he straight up confesses to him because he's been done so dirty. so in this intimate space together he keeps himself covered to protect himself because he knows he's powerless and weak to george, and always has been.

maple syrup (your purple sweater):

this one is weird. this is the angstiest and most fucked up fic of the three and probably that i posted this year but in this smut scene they're both completely naked for each other not because they trust each other but because they have history that the other aus don't. the power in this scene is very messy. george is actively manipulating sapnap into sex but sapnap is something that george needs so really his reactions to george hold far more power than george's manipulation tactics. it's very fucky and tricky and they both are in a weird position over each other so they just are both bare and exposed for the other to see. because these are the only ones that aren't friends to lovers, they're exes to lovers. so getting naked was so second nature they didn't consider keeping a shirt on for safety or comfort, they're sapnap and george and they're gonna have sex so they're naked. so they're both raw and vulnerable with power dynamics spinning like a top and guess what? it explodes. sapnap gets burned. no one is protecting themself so someone gets hurt.

do you see how it's all the same? the stats on these fics drive me a bit bonkers because everyone's scared of maple syrup while the other two have almost identical stats. they're all the same! just slightly different. anyway i hope this was interesting :) thanks to @lemon-mint813 for helping me organize this exploration of these fics :)

no no no pleaaaaaaaase say more re: hickey and silna. Because now I'm thinking like they are both "frauds" in a way bc Hickey is Hickey and Silna really doesn't want to be a shaman never commits to the role/can't do it like Hickey can't caulk. They're both in the "wrong" place with the wrong people as neither one should be on these ships! Please keep elaborating. Also. Love the Lestat profile pic.

Ok after thinking on it a while I think it's way more accurate to say that they each have the personality and social standing that the other one needs, rather than just "self recognition through the other" (though I think that's still 100% accurate, wrt them both being failures of a sort in their roles)

Hickey desperately desperately wants to have power, which silna has the potential to have-- ideally, she would have power through her role as a shaman with the ability to control the tuunbaq, and she would have a community of people who respected her, all of which hit hickeys main motivating factors (power, respect, community-- see the mutineers)

Silna, on the other hand, needs hickeys assets; drive, charisma, his follow-through. Look at how Silna, apparently, took several tries to work up the courage/ability to cut her tongue off with her ulu, vs how hickey could do it in 60 seconds flat with his dull knife. Also compare hickeys constant rebelling against authority vs silna... Kinda just rolling over and taking it, when the netsilik hunter tells her to get a hold of herself (this isn't 1:1 comparable to hickeys situation, obviously, but she's definitely very meek compared to him). Hickey has all the attributes ideal for a shaman (at least, a shaman in the early stages of controlling the tuunbaq), but none of the reverence (or inherited ability lmao) needed to actually gain control of the tuunbaq.

At the same time tho I think there's definitely a lot of similarities between the two-- I'm thinking of Dave K's comments about how every character has a moment they switch from an adventure story to a horror story, but how ironically neither hickey or silna have one; they're both in horror stories from the moment we see them. I think they're both incredibly (for lack of a better term) scrappy characters, who're doing everything in their power just to survive on a ship with people who hate them for something immutable about themselves (though this is notably much worse for silna-- nobody ever suggests that hickey be left out on the ice for the crime of being gay). Then there's the million other little similarities between the two that drive me crazy: both operate under assumed/assigned names, both are out of place on the ship, they're the two with the most crying scenes (I think, don't quote me on that).

Tldr; teach hickey inuktitut so he can give a "we're not so different, you and I" speech and silna can curse him out.

their whole first scene really is a masterpiece.

he woke her up on a saturday morning !!! expected her to be ready in five minutes, then has the audacity to complain about queequeg. i can't with this man, he's too funny

(mulder hating queequeg is hilarious. because he's a dog person, but the kind that thinks big dogs are real dogs and small dogs are rats. and personally i think scully loves ALL dogs, especially ones others don't like or want)

them looking back at queequeg sitting so nicely in the back seat and he makes THIS face them

he's just a little baby (waiting for someone else to die so he can have his favorite meal again)

but anyway.

scully's whole speech cracks me up every time. mulder is a SUCH a pain, but she doesn't question the case until they're already driving in the car for who knows how long. she loves taking queequeg with her. she loves that pup but she also loves annoying mulder as much as she loves their verbal spars.

"it's not jurisdiction that i'm questioning mulder...what are you leaving out?"

scully KNOWS the x files now, she knows mulder's game. this is a toned down fight club scene cuz they don't flirt like that yet. and literally why is he like this!!! he can never just tell her, he wants her to interrogate him lol

i actually really love this about them. mulder did this right from the pilot, and eventually scully yelled at him for keeping things from her, hindering the investigation by keeping her in the dark. she outright asks for his trust twice (i think?). and he still doesn't fully trust her for a while, but i think scully makes her ethics very clear, and that she has more of an open mind than she seems to. she just still thinks ~science will have the answers (and like...she's not wrong. even when mulder is right, they can't prove it without her science). and the more they get to know each other (and LIKE each other & trust each other) it really does become a game. mulder can see how her mind works, and then when she finally has all the information, scully can call him crazy and all is right with the world.

(scully is the only person who can call him crazy and he genuinely loves it. because he knows — because he learned it's affectionate — it doesn't mean she thinks any of less of him, and that she'll ignore his theories. she's just gonna make him work for it because he has to, to get what he wants. and scully will still be there by his side searching for the truth with him every step of the way.)

just a note: i'm kind of surprised she lets dr. farraday talk to mulder the way he does. although i think she might have some similar feelings, she absolutely thinks the x files are worth it and they've already seen some incredible things science didn't have answers for yet. even if at first it was only about what mulder said to her in the pilot — why does the fbi label the cases "unexplained phenomena" and ignore them? she's seen enough to know the x files are important and they do actually make a difference to the people they (try to) help.

i love this little bit of insight into child dana because what a nerd!! she worships the sea her father sailed on and she believed in mythical creatures and learned about them. even some more obscure ones. and she actually loves entertaining his notions and some friendly ribbing: (i love her she looks so soft here)

AND THIS. i can't help but think about deep throat when the woman in the diner starts telling him about ufos & he buys the picture. sucker. i swear she has the same exact expression on her face: (can't find the exact moment but)

(did ansel manage to get ANY good pictures of mulder & scully? come on dude they're so photogenic and they have the perfect opportunity to take them — and in these outfits!!)

(imma b honest this is the first time I've thought deeply abt their characters beyond the ass jokes so these characters are likely ta evolve as i draw em more. my characters just tend ta write themselves yk yk?)

first off: the lunatics use they/he pronouns!

first thing that came ta my mind was that luni drives an old run down car that's got a ton of scratches n dents, but they've had it for years n they're an incredible mechanic so-

luni was a car mechanic b4 getting a job at the pizzaplex and was a little intimidated and shocked when they got the job! even though they're good at what they do, they have a little bit of imposter syndrome at times. he's a little shy, modest guy, but extremely extroverted! once he gets comfy all bets are off

tic went ta college. they went HAM. they had the goal ta work at fazbear inc b/c of how advanced their tech is! they can b a bit egotistical at times, they def think they're that shit and they have the skills ta back it up. literal science genius. he's an introvert, but he's really out there n likes ta get in ppls face. he relishes in the fact that he can creep ppl out

luni was at the pizzaplex first b4 tic came along. now, while luni is shy at times, he's not gonna take shit from NOBODY n tic was a little bit (a lot)rude ta him at first. something something...."I'm way better at my job than you why are you even here?" and so the rivalry began :)

yeah that's right!!!! rivals ta lovers!!! hoh yeah baby!!!!

they go thru some competitive stuff a la: who can fix the animatronics faster? who can do the most repairs? who can come up with the best upgrades? and it just kept going n going till they both ranked up enough in fazbear inc ta where they get paid BUCKET LOADS of money. like. these guys are LOADED. fazbear inc pays them WELL.

eventually, they get ta a point where they've both reached their peak and there was nowhere else left ta go. they're forced ta work on equal ground n get ta know each other beyond the rivalry n end up crushing on each other :3

as they get ta know each other they realize that they share similar interests in loving memey n cursed shit. HR is fucking suffering b/c they're tryna keep the pizzaplex afloat w/all the "incidents" that keep happening that they literally don't care what any of the employees are doing as long as they're doing their jobs. the lunatics at this point are valued members of the fazbear inc team n so they basically become untouchable b/c of how good they are.

that also means they're often left w/nothin ta do since the robots last p long between repairs. so bored one day, tic gets a funny idea. "what if we glued asses onto the bots?" luni laughs and the rest is history.

Anyways, when Betty and Nicolas are at the Le Noir, she insinuates that her plan was to make Armando believe her and Nicolás were about to Do the Thing at a hotel.

Let's assume in this AU, Nicolás stood Patricia up to help Betty

Armando would have absolutely gone BONKERS

But also, I can just imagine to the level of cruelness it would have gone

Betty woukd have definitedly told Nicolás to drive towards the same hotel where Armando and her spent the night, with full on intention to book the same room where Armando and her were

Armando, on his part, would lose all color on his face as he realized to where they're driving

He'd grip the wheel so hard his knucles would go white. His jaw would tense and release over and over. He'd silently pray he's wrong. He'd cling to the idea that he's mistaken

Even when both cars reach the hotel's parking lot, he's hoping it's false. That she'd regret it and go back. That she'd dumb that idiot right there.

But that doesn't happen. He just watched from afar as the idiot talks to the receptionist and takes a key, with HIS Betty hugging his arm

The memory of her doing exactly the same to him, in that same hotel lobby, brings tears to his eyes and he quickly blinks them away

He follows them with his eyes as they take the elevator

He stays there, just watching the elevator's closed doors for what feels like an eternity, his heart filling with hope each time the doors open, praying to see Betty coming down alone

But an hour goes by, and they haven't come down. After another half an hour, he's lost all hope

He tortures himself with the image of Betty, the memory of her skin, her kisses, her smell during that night with him.

He ends up at the hotel's bar, drinking himself to nearly unconciousness. He can still see the entrance of the hotel, and would be able to see whe they go out

And as if life itself were laughing at him, he overhears some hotel's employees conversation

They're talking about an incredibly ugly woman, and how she was here not so long ago with another man.

Armando grits his teeth, and barey supresses the urge to beat those assholes up when he hears their laugh, their jokes.

Their laughter of him, of the "poor imbecile" that she's cheating on. Their namecalling of her.

He has no way of knowing that, inside that room where he thinks another man is making love to his Betty, that other man actually fell asleep half way through a random movie they found on the room's tv

Betty, however, blindly stared at the screen for two hours. Dead quiet.

Nicolás tried to talk her out of this, but she never ceded. He ended up giving up and decided to watch the movie instead before he fell asleep

Nicolás is truly worried for her, for her mind, ans for her soul. But if his dear near-sister wants this, he'll help her. He'd do anything to help aliviate the crushing pain she's under

Even if he doesn't think it's right

After around two hours, Betty wakes Nicolás up, and they leave the room

She leaves the room hugging his arm

And Armando witnesses it all

By this point, he's heavely intoxicated. He doesn't even wait for them to drive to her house like in the novela or for him to leave. He confrots them both right there, in the parking lot of the hotel

And basically it goes down very similar to the scene outside of Inesita's house: Betty yelling, Nicolás teying to fight, horrified stares from people

Armando beats Nicolás up until a couple of security guards come separate them, after guests started reporting the brutal beating happening

They're holding his arms, but he's struggling and yelling and the poor security guards aren't even corpulent enough to deal with this 1.80+cm, red seeing, and blood-craving beast

That is, until Betty slaps the shit out of him

It's not the pain that wakes him up. He's been in pain for a while, as his knuckles are bleeding and he might have broken a bone. It's the shock.

He has no time to process this

By this point, the police has already been called, as well as an ambulance

Nicolás is badly beaten on the floor. Realistically, in the novella he would have been as well, but Ig it tried to downplay Armando’s damage.

I won't downplay it here. Armando really thinks he's beating an asshole who just tricked and fucked the love of his life for money

In his mind, Armando is beating Miguel and himself up, both personified through Nicolás Mora: assholes taking advantage of a vulnerable angel

Or at least, he sometimes thinks of her as an angel. He oscillates between seeing her as such, and realizing that she basically cheated on him and lied to his face.

All of these thoughts flood his deeply intoxicated might as he is dragged to the police car, and as he sees the paramedics putting Nicolás on a stretcher

It breaks his heart to see Betty so worried over that man

But as he's left on the backseat of the police car, two things dawn on him: first, he could and would have beaten to death Nicolás Mora, had it not been for the intervention. And second, that Betty is in love with Nicolás Mora, and not him

Only one of those things is true

Betty goes in the ambulance with Nicolás

Thankfully, he's only got a couple of broken ribs. But the doctor's words stay ringing in Betty's head: had Nicolás continued to be beaten that badly, those broken ribs could have punctured something important

Betty cries besides Nicolás, and even though he tells her it's okay and he chose to do it, Betty had enough

The next day, she dumps everything (inkcuding the Mercedes's keys, sinister letter, and her resignation letter) into a box and gives it all to Aura Maria, telling her to give it to don Armando or don Mario when she sees them

She doesn't care to even ask what happened to Armando

He spent the night in jail, and Marcela went to pick him up the next morning

Marcela started the expected interrogation, and Armando, tired, annoyed, hung over, and very bitter, is cruel towards her, shutting out every one of her attempts to demand explanations

As soon as he gets his stuff back, he finds a million lost calls from Calderón. He ignores them all thinking it's just him wanting details about the situation

When Armando goes back to the office in the late afternoon, a panicked Calderón tells him Betty not only quit, but also gave them back the business

And worse yet, his sinister letter

He immediately goes to her house

No one's there, and when he asks around he finds out that rumors have gotten out through the neighborhood that someone had badly beaten Nicolás Mora, and the whole Pinzón Solano family had gone yo see him st the hospital

Except Betty, who stayed there the whole night

His mind is running thousands an hour, and lots of questions go through his head. He doesn't know what to do or say

So he goes to the hospital, waiting for her outside until she comes out, and turning off his phone to avoid Marcela blowing it up with calls

He immediately ambushes her, trying to talk to her and explain everything, but she won't have any of it

In the novela, although Betty did get angry ans scared when Armando was beating up Nicolás, the beating wasn't as bad as here. Here, Nicolás had to go to the hospital, her parents got involved, even his mom got involved. Seeing Nicolás mom anguished and angry over what happened to her son really made it all dawn on Betty

And increased her hatred towards Armando

So I guess you can imagine how it got after this

Betty refused to listen to Armando. She never came back to Ecomoda, no matter how much everyone begged

Armando was twice humiliated. Word got out that he beat a man badly, very badly, outside of a hotel at night.

Witnesses say it wasn't even a fight. It was straight up Armando Mendoza pulverizing a man... and obviously, that already painted a grim picture. A well-known womanizer, at night, beating another man outside of a hotel with such rage? It just had to have to do with a woman

Marcela was obviously the first one to come to the gossip magazines's especulations

But witnesses' description of the woman (who slapped Armando Mendoza when the policemen couldn't control him!) Does not fit Marcela Valencia at all

It didn't take long before everyone put two and two together

After all, Armando never hid Betty and his closeness to her. She had been the center of quite the gossip, after all. Who would forget such a jarring image of this handsome, powerful millionaire who could have any woman he liked, yet always had by his side that tiny gremlin-looking woman? No one in Armando’s classist, sexist and superficial circle would pass the opportunity to gossip among themselves

No details ever came to light, of course. But everyone already knew Armando and Betty were involved, and, judging by his reaction, apparently she cheated on him with that other guy

The public humiliation, added to the disgust that Marcela felt knowing that Armando had cheated on her with Beatriz, was too much for Marcela. Of course she had to cancel the wedding

And if y'all think this is sucking, let me remind y'all that no one yet knows about the whole embargo thing lol

Obviously, Betty doesn't go to Cartagena

The Board Meeting happens before. Armando is immediatedly removed as President

Roberto is just so incredibly angry and embarrassed that Ecomoda is dragged into this. He just can't let his son continue to drag Ecomoda's name to the ground.

The pictures of Armando being taken by the police just haunt Roberto

And THAT'S when everyone finds out the truth

Roberto, just like in the novela, quickly puts two and two together and understand why Armando got involved with Beatriz. He keeps this disgusting realization to himself

Daniel does not.

All this time Armando has tried to talk to Betty. She doesn't let him. She just keeps hidding at Nicolás house, taking care of him. She feels deeply guilty about it. He has multiple bones broken and needs care

He doesn't regret it, tho. He's happy that he was able to stand up for her. He even jokes about it, and although Betty is queen of dark self depricating humor, she doesn't find this funny at all

She understands that, had the police not taken Armando that night, she would have lost her Dear friend

And all of this for some stupid vengeance

Since this Betty doesn't go to Cartagena, she doesn't go through any physical change. Doesn't meet Michel. Doesn't heal.

But she doesn't come back to Ecomoda either.

The business just falls apart, even in Daniel's hands

And with her reputation fully tarnished (not through magazines, as nothing was ever confirmed and they wouldn't risk a lawsuit, but word spreads out withing the sector), she can't even work in the field anymore

So she ends up working back as a secretary on some random small business that pays even less than in her previous job

Armando and Marcela don't go bac together. She ends up leaving the country and moving to London with Roberto and Margarita, as she can't even tolerate the amount of gossip and shame she feels. She gets a good job there, tho

Patricia eventually ends up in jail lol she never got to see Nicolás again, and with all her debt and all her connections burned, she got sued and take to jail

Daniel continues to work in his government job, but after all the scandal, it's hard to keep it for long. He gets in other businesses later, but no one in the family really knows whag it is

Nicolás continued to work in his mom's bakery

Don Hermes lost his car as he couldn't pay anymore. He's very depressed, and to say he's disappointed would be too short

After one of the millionth attempts to speak to Betty, don Hermes notices and intervenes. Betty protests but don Hermes doesn't listen. That's how he ends up discovering the whole legal and economic issue

He tries to force Betty to go, but by that time, it's too late and the business falls

Calderón, just like in canon, leaves the country

At the end, Armando ends up alone

He moves to Sweden with his sister to try to rebuild a life, but there's nothing of the Old Armando in him. He's an empty shell who lost it all

The only thing that keeps him breathing is his sister's care, guiding him through his deep depression

He wouldn't have survived it if it weren't for her

In short, everyone is very, very miserable

Lol, I though of taking this to an even DARKER turn... after all, it's said in the canon that, had nothing stopped Armando, he wouldn't have stopped on his own. A beating like that can be fatal, that's all I'm saying.

Ahhhhhh the lavender marriage fic.... this one is actually kind of sad? Well bittersweet. Anyways post season four Steve and Robin are both struggling in their own ways. Steve is having this weird 'I almost had something with a guy who is now dead' emotion and Robin is having a 'this is the second time my best friend almost died right in front of me' emotion. So one night while they're drunk she shares that and she's like Steve if they put you in the hospital, I wouldn't even get to see you. And Steve suggests they get married

It's a joke, and then it isn't. It actually makes so much sense to both of them. So at graduation in the parking lot after the ceremony, Steve proposes. Robin knew this was going to happen, the rest didn't. Cue everyone inserting their opinions, getting mad, disagreements, and eventually, understanding. But TLDR Robin and Steve are kind of codependent, Steve is grieving a three day love affair that never got to become anything real, and they decide the best way to heal each other is with a marriage

I'm also going to talk about the Steve's Mom dies fic, because it hurts me so good. It's in my A New Perspective series, but not for a while. Basically Steve's parents get into a car accident because his dad was driving drunk, his mom dies but his dad lives, and Steve has to navigate planning her funeral while also trying to figure out how he feels about it all given that he and his mom used to be really close and it feels like one day she just randomly stopped caring. Everyone is trying to help him in their own ways, and eventually by the end of the fic he's moving in with the Byers, so up till this fic he's still at home.

I will state point blank that this fic is literally just self therapy for me having to do something incredibly incredibly similar LMAO

6. When did they realize they loved each other? ALRIGHT. alright. I actually have this one kind of planned out in advance. They did it at different points. Marik fell first without question, it was when he met face-to-face with Joey that it solidified fully. In my head, it absolutely goes: Joey: "(says some kind of incredibly lame pun, e.g. 'I just had to hit that thug on the head with my Duel Disk. I guess you could say I decked him, eh? Eh??)" -> Marik, internally: "Oh man he's so stupid I NEED him so bad." However it then sort of simultaneously both soured and got stronger when Joey broke free of his mind control. It's a kind of paradox; Marik is in love with Joey because he can't control him, but Marik absolutely hates Joey because he can't control him, but Joey isn't interesting when he's not fully himself, but Marik can't do anything with him when he isn't mind controlled. Complex! After the Battle City affair, I think Marik just sort of resigns himself to thinking, "OK, this was just kind of a weird crush I have on a guy who probably hates me now, so I guess I'll just have to cope with this alone until it goes away."

By contrast, I think Joey had kind of a weird relationship to it; he had kind of an attraction to "Namu" as a pretty and nice guy he met, but it was just sort of like. A flirtation. Minor problem. Still other fish in the sea and all that. After Joey figured out he was Marik, though, I think he repressed any and all romantic attraction down as far as possible, with the exception that some of the reason he was pissed originally was just being kind of mad he had that crush at first. Anyways Joey only realizes he's in love with Marik after Some Time (could be anywhere from a few months to years, depending on if he goes to visit Rishid sooner or later), a very awkward reunion, a week-long fight, getting eventually chewed out by Anzu in those "JOEY WHEELER WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU???" talks she likes to give out, stealing a car to go drive out in the middle of the desert to be alone for a minute, having the Moment of Realization and nearly crashing said stolen car in his panic. Woops!

8. What’s one way their personalities compliment one another? Oughghgh okay so. I think it's really interesting how their personalities are both so similar but so different. They're both very stubborn and pretty righteous, while simultaneously having a ton of old built-up guilt. However, they have a lot of differences too. Joey is hot-blooded and willing to pick a fight with just about anyone versus Marik being more of a "master manipulator" type that prefers to let other people settle the score. Joey also tends to be extroverted and makes friends pretty easily if he doesn't freak them out with how passionate he is about, well, everything, while Marik is um. A little stilted when it comes to social interactions (I am betting good money "Namu" usually got by on good looks and brainwashing people to vouch for him whenever that particular character got used). So all this is to say, I think they have potential to actually help each other out a lot when they work together - Marik keeps Joey from making rash decisions or helps him find smarter ways to get around problems, and Joey keeps Marik from getting too isolated and better at dealing with his own problems instead of letting Rishid and Ishizu fix them for him (again).

39. What other couple would your otp get along with the best? I'm going to be honest with you I don't know if this counts but if visionshipping also happens I think they would have a fascinating relationship. Like a sort of friendly rivalry/thematic parallels/less friendly rivalry on the part of mai/marik thing going on. The autistic teenage homosexuals have unionized against the socially awkward 20something lesbians. I think it would be really fun to see them in a double duel (nobody is allowed to use god cards.) Does that count?

8. What’s one way their personalities compliment one another? The irony of Atem being a literal ghost and yet significantly more down-to-Earth than Ryou is never lost on me. I think that most people outside of their relationship tend to dismiss Ryou as being very quiet and introverted, but he's just shy lol - once they're just around one another, Ryou is definitely the more energetic one that is absolutely having incredibly bad ideas, and Atem is going along with them because Ryou is his dear boyfriend and so can do no wrong and have no incredibly bad ideas. right? right???? (said while holding a knife as Ryou tries to figure out if you really can make cake out of ergot-infested wheat). Guy who gets into problems x guy who keeps on getting dragged into them. However I do think its good for Atem to relax a little sometimes lol

11. Which member is more physically affectionate? They are both touchstarved as Hell so they're significantly touchier than your average couple anyways but Hmm. maybe Atem? I feel like Atem goes with constant but minor physical affection (holding hands, casually leaning against him while playing games or watching movies, etc.) whereas Ryou doesn't go for physical affection a ton but when he does Watch Out. One time Atem had to go away for a tournament for like two weeks and when he got back Ryou pounced on him like Hobbes and rested his chin on top of his head with his arms wrapped around Atem like a clingy octopus for the next 24 hours. He Gets Lonely.

34. Do they give each other nicknames? this is a tough one. I feel like if we have a pre-Millennium World situation, then Ryou def had a nickname for Atem to try and differentiate him from Yugi- I'm not sure what it would be though. Incredibly tempted to say Mister Ghost/Mister Spirit just because Ryou is a Polite Young Man. I have a hard time picturing them using a ton of nicknames, but inside Atems head there are definitely five billion poetic epithets of courtly romance he uses for Ryou like:

Ryou: *picking dead lizard off the ground* Do you think reptiles taste like chicken because birds evolved from dinosaurs? Or do you think they taste like fish because their diets are closer and they absorb the taste of all the flies and worms they eat

That's one that's also come onto my radar quite recently. My thoughts are: why not! Sokeefe and kam are both rather popular ships, and sotam have (in my opinion) a lovely dynamic, so why not combine them all!

I think Sophie and Tam complement each other in the overt vs covert ways. Sophie speaks out and takes attention, with that diverted attention Tam can observe anything and everything happening, dealing with all the more subtle aspects of life. Keefe also contributes to the overt category, but Sophie's is in the self righteous way while Keefe's is a defiance more akin to Tam? So they've got the full spectrum

Keefe has a sort of resigned nihilism, which can contrast with Sophie's determination and kindness towards him--which would also be aided by Tam's support. He's not lovey dovey, but he isn't going to let Keefe shittalk himself without cause. Or Sophie. And she's never going to hesitate to reaffirm and comfort them. And Keefe may have trouble caring for himself, but his attention to others can be admirable. I think they'd all reinforce the other's drive to fight, being a safety net to fall back on and recover within. They'd better each other.

I think how ostracized each has been would be a point of strength in their relationship, bringing them all together. To different degrees and in different ways, they've all been separated from their world. Whether physically or emotionally, none of them have a chance at a normal life, so building one together could be a comfort instead. There's no desire or expectation to conform or want to conform, but instead to figure out what you want and what's best for you.

I think there's some work to be done between the three first (mostly centered around Keefe) before they can fully commit to and trust each other, but if that's done and if they decide to do this, I see no reason it shouldn't work out (the Keefe v Tam rivalry being one of the things to be worked on first). They could contribute to and benefit each other's lives, similar enough to connect and unique in their own respects that they're always learning from each other.

They're all incredibly loyal as well. So if they're doing it, they're doing it. Anyway, I haven't given them too much thought, but of the thought I've given I'd be curious to explore them more and think it's a lovely ship!

diesel:

you could say that diesel's currently not interested in anyone, at least in a romantic sense. diesel used to have a small crush on mavis but no longer did after she told him she's a lesbian. now they're just... besties? frenemies? diesel and mavis gets into trouble together, except diesel's the one who incites it (arry and bert just follows) and mavis just happens to be there. diesel gets himself into trouble because of his schemes while mavis (begrudgingly) gets him out of it, though she usually also gets the short end of the stick alongside diesel. mavis also thought that diesel is constantly up to no good, though this is mostly because mavis just wants to live a simple life with as little problems as possible (literally impossible because she lives in so-freaking-dor)

however in act 2, mavis started to feel suspicious about diesel with how he always disappears somewhere at nights. even though they're both affiliated with the dieselworks (since they both drive diesel engines), she suspected that diesel might've been getting himself involved with d10 lately and is now genuinely siding with someone threatening instead of just being mildly inconveniencing. she's now conflicted between wanting to confront diesel in order to protect the person she cares about, or avert her eyes and live in blissful ignorance.

not shippy, but worth mentioning: diesel and duck started off as great enemies at the start of the story. before the events of casa tidmouth, after thinking duck wanted to leave him for dead (he was still new to sodor and has no idea people rarely die in sodor's railways), diesel spread horrific rumours about duck's family, which triggered the start of his axe-crazy tendencies (he's incredibly desperate to make his family proud. you know the drill). neither of them expressed guilt -- they do feel it -- for their actions towards one another because of how stubborn they are. they also have really different worldviews; diesel wanted progress, while duck wanted to stick with the old ways.

their backgrounds were really similar, too. both of their families were incredibly traditional, but while duck followed them like a dog, diesel rejected them. they could've respected each other or even become friends, if only their stubborness didn't blind them. perhaps things could change in act 2...?

speaking of act 2, diesel teamed up with d10 and got pretty close to him, partly because he realized d10's power is now heavily relying on the competence of his minions (and they're really not) and partly because they both share the same worldviews about progress. he's basically his right hand man, doing all the convincing and talking while d10 is having this big internal crisis going on. you could say it's also his curiosity taking place, since he wonders what the "most menacing man in all of sodor" will do once he hits rock bottom. diesel also convinced percy to join the workers of dieselworks when he was at his lowest, saying "I know a man who would respect your ambitions."

in addition, diesel is still coming into terms with his identity because of his huge catholic guilt. this fucking guy

oliver:

even though he's usually no-nonsense and avoids conflict and island mysteries at any cost, oliver has a huge soft spot for douglas. they first met around 5 years ago when oliver was lost in a forest in bumfuck nowhere, being the victim of time and space displacement alongside a young man called toad -- who barely said a word -- and having lost a lot of his memories. he lived inside his rusty engine with toad for years in solitude. after a few years had passed, he met douglas, who ended up there as well (he assumed that he's the same as him) and bonded with him over the days he was stuck there.

with douglas' presence, oliver felt much less alone. and vice versa. toad also got along with douglas, which made oliver felt relieved. oliver initially didn't have much motivation to get himself out of the situation (toad didn't express much either and only wanted to stick with oliver) and nearly gave up, but after meeting douglas and listening to his stories about missing his brother and wanting to go back home, oliver regained his motivation to keep on trying. he also set his thoughts of finding whoever's responsible aside for the sake of douglas and toad.

after the three of them were rescued by duck and donald and nursed back to health, oliver intended to take his leave, still a bit bent on finding whoever's responsible for his lost memories and broken engine. but then sir topham hatt suggested that he could work for the northwestern railways ("who knows? it could help you find what you're looking for, mr. swindon.")

the next day, douglas expressed gratitude to oliver for saving his life and accompanying him throughout the days he was lost in a forest. oliver instead shot back with a smile, "actually, douglas, you're the one who saved me. even though I still remember nothing about my past, I now remember what I was fighting for. myself, and my engine."

fun fact: you know oliver jr., oliver's tamagotchi? douglas was the one who gifted it to him. since the first generation of tamagotchis die easily if not given care 24/7, douglas went all the way to the steamworks and convinced victor (doctor, engineer, guy with at least 3 phds) to modify it and make it practically immortal. oliver received this gift extremely happily, though he sometimes wonders if something is different with his tamagotchi (douglas just said that he probably got the most special ultra rare yadda yadda version).

oliver and douglas are also one of the more "normal" pair in all of casa tidmouth (2x3x4 have communication issues thus can only pine over each other, 8x9 are... uh... murderhusbands, mavis is oblivious to lady's true identity, lady and d10 have similar twisted views on humanity, etc).

even though nobody (aside from thomas and percy) knows about lady being the island's goddess, almost every single woman in casa tidmouth likes her. mavis, emily, rosie, belle, daisy, etc... they all collectively thought "haha wow weird silly woman is pretty". she's way too oblivious and thought that it's just some quirk humans have, though. HOWEVER, she's really close with mavis, who showed lady around the quarry when she first arrived in sodor. mavis also wanted to "shield" lady from all the general weirdness around sodor, assuming that she's originally from outside the island. on the other hand, lady's optimism started to make mavis relax more from her coworker diesel's antics. also mavis thinks she's kinda hahah hey girl

in act 2, after news of missing railway workers came out, mavis tried to convince lady to leave the island. she felt like lady knows a lot more than she looks, but she's not taking any risks to have the person she holds dear get involved. lady just felt really guilty, but (after going through character progression and developing more "human" emotions like happiness, guilt, melancholy, "selfish" motivations, yadda yadda) she has a feeling that if she revealed her true identity, it's not going to end smoothly.

I've also mentioned something about lady and d10 being really close in a qpp type of way had their circumstances been different. they're both people who find it really hard to connect to others; the former being a goddess with different perceptions on morality and the latter being a guy who has low empathy and a whole lot of personality disorders. here's the post explaining their relationship

FIRED from writing about the boys because this took FOREVER sodjfnfkdkd sorry sometimes the brain just. Doesn't. 😅

Ahem. So. (Also disclaimer; this is in terms of their MCU counterparts, comics characterization has some similarities to this in my mind but it's not quite the same.)

I love exploring Marc and Jake's relationship because really.. we don't know a whole lot just yet, so there's plenty of room to play around with, right? Five minutes of a scene of Jake along with six episodes with varying degrees of Marc involvement doesn't really leave a lot of room for canon characterization, but to me, there's really only one way that it works.

The way the show ended left Marc and Steven living as a sort of cohesive, brotherly relationship. Things are bumpy, but they're more aware and are beginning to learn to live in tandem with each other. But it didn't start out that way. We went from Steven not knowing of Marc at all, to confusion, to misunderstanding, frustration, resentment caused by Marc's lies and anger from Steven once he realized how many decisions Marc had been making without his input. A ton of work had to be done and processing needed to happen to an extent so that the two could understand each other. And in that dynamic, Marc held the most information.

So what happens when Marc falls into Steven's shoes?

Honestly, I think it would be incredibly funny.. eventually. The point we're at right now, we've got a pushpin right in the dead center of Steven's timeline in season one. Marc is confused. Marc is missing things. Marc is realizing that this time, he's not the one with the upperhand, he's not seeing all the pieces on the board. I don't think he'd react in quite the same way because he's not Steven; Steven had this intense fear of the unknown, was horrified at the existence of someone he didn't understand. He just wanted his little life with his own things and wanted to be content with that, somehow. Until a certain Mr. Marc Spector threw a nuke in the whole thing.

Marc I think would be more.. frustrated initially. Quick to anger. At first, I think he'd be entirely unwilling to acknowledge Jake at all, assuming that if he just ignores the problem, it will go away. Because Marc knows how their brain works, he would've known if there was someone else. And Jake would just laugh. He'd giggle and chortle and it would drive Marc insane. Like, buddy. You really thought you had this under control, all by yourself? Weren't gonna acknowledge all the missing time that couldn't possibly have been accounted for during Steven's waking hours? The bodies? The near impossible escapes that he had no recollection of? The hazy timelines that Steven seemed to sideeye him for just a little too long during his explanations?

Eventually that anger would still come, in the same way it had with Steven but from Marc's perspective. He doesn't always agree with Jake's violence, but Jake knows Marc had never been entirely above hurting people and isn't afraid to call him out on his hypocrisy. He's saved the lot of them more times than he can count and he won't apologize for it, but Marc Knows Best and is constantly picking a fight regarding Jake's methods, his attitude, his blatant refusal to follow Marc's plans. Again, Marc has always (lol) been the one in control, and giving up the reigns will be. Well. Near impossible.

I could talk about this all day, but the way their habits and personalities bounce off of each other has always been so fun to play with for me. The relationships between the three of them are a kaleidoscope of colors, reflections of each other but varying hues that shine in unique ways.

Plus they're so dumb. But I love 'em.

Robo/Otter for the ship opinion thing please

@kitnita and @penswriter also asked me this so thank you :') i will never pass up an opportunity to talk about robotter!

tbh zoe's post on them is already PERFECT and she nails the core essence of what makes them compelling so i feel like i don't have to tack on much more but. 2129 are my 2nd favorite stars ship (i'm just equal opportunity robo multishipper. i will reflect) and my main takeaways are that they're so much fun for 1) how their freak_guy mentalities are like... insanely similar despite documented commitment to midwestern "niceness" and 2) how much they embody entwined_legacy draft narratives. and also how much they patiently indulge the media by continuously acknowledging and answering for them.

like jake being the goalie the stars traded up for, robo being the guy who slipped down to the 2nd round and wasn't even interviewed by the team because they always knew they wanted him, etc... i think what destroysss me about robo saying that he and otter "grew up together" in the ahl despite it being literally One year is that for most guys (especially star players) the ahl is barely more than a transitory interval on the path toward their Real Careers, and while robo does characterize it that way most of the time — sometimes when people fish for those ~are you surprised you Made made it to the nhl~ soundbites he's kind of like uh... well not really because i put in the work at every step of the way so why wouldn't i get there eventually? — he still talks about the draft being that moment when he realized that like, Woah okay this professional hockey stuff is a whole different ballpark and the type of player i have to become requires way more sensitive calibration than cooking in juniors does. so in that sense the ahl really is where he officially Grew Up, and the fact that he credits otter as being an integral part of that is like 😭 IT MAKES ME WANT TO CHEW ON SOMETHING.

i also think their jr paths really inform their gamer_mentalities which is sooo interesting to me. like they're both nerds but in different ways: jake is extremely sentimental about his time playing high school hockey and had a very vibrant social life in minnesota and carries that ferda love (second to none but tydel of course) into every roster he plays with, wants so badly to hold onto the memories of every guy who skates for him each season 🥲 whereas robo's parents upended a ton of familiarity to homeschool him and his siblings and let robo focus uniquely on hockey and is sort of why he's much more romantic about the game itself than anything else (and yet otter is still Special and That Guy and the Backbone of the team to him! okay!). so those little nuances, despite their being very similar competitors, does beget intriguing dynamics.

also there's a quote pav had in his exit interview (03:29) that i keep coming back to and it's that "[robo] does have somewhat of a belief that this is his team, as do other guys—as a miro, a roope, and for me that's super encouraging. to see young players have that kind of intensity, that drive, that they want to be the guy out there that's going to make a difference." and i feel like honestly no one better exemplifies that pure raw Belief that they are (or have to step up and become) THE GUY more than otter and robo do. which is just. auUGHHH... so fascinating also because at the end of the day no position is less disposable than a winger and no position is more opaque and singular and coveted than an "elite" goalie. and yet.

i won't wax poetic much longer because i feel like this is all very obvious rambling but i just adore them! and tangentially i find the general existence of ty dellandrea incredible because truly there are so many ways to insert him into a robotter triangle. and when you can start throwing in wyatt or whomever else in there??? the possibilities are endless!!! i love 2129 as a baseline "it's us until the end and we want to win HERE and TOGETHER and NOW" ship so much and i'm obsessed with how much you can keep iterating on that to your heart's content.

I... don't know,, can't think of a moment really, although that scene at the end of fury and gingka's little speech may have been a big sign :) what was that gingka :D Also I think like narratively the scene at the end of fusion where gingka catches ryuga while falling has done something to my brain forever, it is so precious and important to me like.... OUURGH my feelings about ryugin is very!!! arti. grhej can't find a better way to describe it, they are a specific idea of ship i have in my brain that i like as someone who is incredibly confused and lowkey scared of romantic relationships and dating in general, that's why to me they are both aroace (jus like me fr,,) and what they have?? complicated but also so simple somehow!! But honestly I think I liked this idea of ryugin pretty early into my rewatch but i was kind of scared voicing it at first because there can be really shitty interpretations of those characters and their dynamic. I also am a fellow ryuga enjoyer who lives in the magical land of delusion and canon rewrite so :')) that helps a lot. But they mean so much omg i love them so fucking much!! I hope I can write coherently about them because!!!!

What are your favorite things about the ship?

Omg so many things... I love how I think about them with the right song and it hits me right in the feels! I love how similar they are and also vastly different their upbringing (mainly hcs on ryuga's side but yk how it is) and destiny was. Like I'm still absolutely going feral over that post from last year I made about both of our first look of them in the show?? Tbf it's the second scene where we see Gingka but still,, where he's on top of a building seeing the whole sky above him, while when we first see ryuga outside of vague flashbacks or the opening, he's in a sort of coma in a weird coffin surrounded by machine? And the shots of their beys parallel each other?? Like gingka is holding pegasus, probably feeling comfort holding onto his companion and momento of his dad, of his village. Meanwhile Ryuga's hand is lose cause he's asleep but it seems L drago is wide awake and already feeding off of him, one was a bey given to Gingka with a heavy burden of a goal but representing hope and the other was stolen, in order to only bring destruction. I think their relationships to their bey evolving throughout the show is super interesting to compare (but that's also because I hc a lot of things about ryuga that aren't canon because sometimes i want to chew on canon and chug it in the "don't care" bin).

Okay I think I only gave one reason FUCK umm I like the similarities and differences in their designs a lot (scarf/coat, headband/crown, gloves/no gloves, rounder features/sharper). That's mostly to do with Mr Adachi's really cool designs but still I wanted to mention it.

I like the hope in it you know? Ryuga's such a broken person but he's also like,, in my au 14/15yo during fusion and still a kid during the series? And how he almost died at least once (i'm also counting fury because no he didnot i don't care) so young and all this time without any form of genuine care or love. Like I like thinking about him mainly because there's not much that can excuse his actions but it's so interesting too? Like i like explaining the path he takes after fusion. How he's stuck in a downward spiral, hungry for power still because to him power is the only way to feel safe and in control, never being used again. But that ultimately keeps him away from genuine connection still and it also drives him to an almost death and just makes him extra stupid during fury :D idk to me fury ryuga felt so much like character regression, they really saw his masters character and went "yeah but what if..." NYWAY I digrace. I like how they're both just kids and the moment Gingka remembers/realizes it during their final fight in fusion is the thing that saves the world, that for gingka to still be Gingka and to save beyblade, how can he not save this other kid in pain. It is in tune with his character but it's also such a huge accomplishment on his part? He went through so much, his friends, his village, his father got taken away because of Ryuga. It's not all because of Ryuga and Gingka probably knows that but still?? He absolutely hated his guts and for good reason too. But I find it just so!!!! I love the idea that despite it all, there can be love after all of that. However you define it, just compassion and understanding <3 It is so cheesy but maaaaannn what are we without the power of love. I just love ryugin so much, i always try very hard to not make it sound like i'm glossing over all the problems ryuga caused and the emotional and mental toll gingka suffered becaus it's here, but also I love to believe that Gingka is just such a beam of light and he truly empathize with people in general, and something in him will always reach out to Ryuga. And that moment when he stopped him from falling to his death is just so!! To me in my hcs and aus and everything it is just the thing that starts ryuga's growth and character developement, like yeah he's still a stupid guy with a lot of issues but he's going to try. At least in my book (i feel like i'm rambling about things that are so far from canon but whatever i'm vibing my brain is vibrating rn). I just keep thinking about that quote from the good place "the point is people improve when they get external love and support. How can we hold it against them when they don't" and i want to tear up a little.

okay i have a couple more i think that i can think of,, vhfdj this is getting so so long,, oopsie. Um anyway, I like to imagine Ryuga actually helps Gingka too (it's not all one sided i promise but look at this mess of a boy) especially in expressing his feelings and communicating, i feel like gingka would and just by nature still struggles with this but because they understand each other's intentions very well most of the time (and that's canon baby) ryuga helps pointing it out if that makes sense. I also love how they're both intelligent while very dumb at the same time like they maybe aren't beyblade geniuses like Yu but they understand that game so well and so quickly i love that a lot. And I like how they both acknowledge it and respect the other for it.

I like how I imagine them both being vagabonds in their young adult years (*cough* snufkin much *cough*) and valuing their time alone but also sharing adventures together and feeling very comfortable with the other and just vibing :)

It's so funny when i think about it like trying to simplify their dynamic in my head cause it's just: gingka to ryuga is the light, the guy that saved him, the thing that changed everything and he can never fully understands it frustrates him but he can't keep away very long evn though he thought he'd always belong in the dark. And Ryuga to Gingka is friend (extra plus edition) :) both so valid honestly gdfhjsdhj

I love that there is SO MUCH angst potential but also this ship just brings me a sense of peace and joy, like it's somehow cozy??? with these two in it?? but yeah :)

this has been such a long post holy shit and i feel like i still have stuff to say :') uuuh unpopular? I guess I hate most of the fanart i see of them unsurprisingly... But that's also just the pinterest side of the fandom like... between the straight up absolute weirdo stuff you never want to see ever again, the perpetual whitewashing of ryuga, the abusive/uncomfortable stuff you find it's just :') but again that's true of a lot of characters and ships in the fandom. Idk if me seeing them as aroace and in a more qpr relationship is unpopular, honestly I feel like we're just us two vibing in the ryugin sphere Hani ghfdjsk

Hi! I was curious how you’d respond to the frequent criticism that Chair is all about sex? I feel like they connect on every level, not just physically. I’d even go as far as to say that if for some reason they could never have sex again they’d still choose to stay together forever anyway, but maybe I’m being too romantic :)

hi!! ohh tysm for asking this!! so icr if I touched on it in my chair v dair post at all, so sorry if I repeat myself, but I think this criticism is so stupid skafjksk. although chair do have sex regularly there's nothing inherently wrong with that. from the very beginning of their relationship in 1x07 it's established that they both like having sex with each other, that they're good at it and incredibly compatible. throughout the show sex is an important part of their relationship, but it's not the only part as these criticisms suggest.

s3 is all about them learning how to trust each other, and actually 3x03 and 3x14 both feature plot points about how they're not having sex. but as blair says in 3x14 sex is how, at that point in their relationship, she gets chuck to open up about how he's feeling about things. they don't just have a lot of sex bc they're horny teenagers/young adults, it's bc their physical connection helps their emotional one, so they're actually strengthening their relationship in the best and most effective way for them both.

in s6 they address this criticism head on (idk if it was said at the time too, but I think it's interesting that they had a whole plot line around it) by having chair not have sex. apart from their reunion in monte carlo they agree to not even kiss until they're in the right place for their engagement. their connection doesn't suffer bc it's on a much deeper level than just physical. they support each other, uplift each other, and sort out their individual issues so that once they're together there's nothing else that could try and tear them apart. they don't need to have sex to connect emotionally (they didn't even need to in s3 it was just that chuck wasn't in the same headspace to open up more easily like he was in s6 and blair knew how to get him there) they have a mature and functional relationship without any sex at all, proving to both themselves and viewers that they've never needed sex in order to work together, it's just a wonderful aspect of their relationship.

I agree with u that if, for any reason, medical or otherwise, current chair couldn't have sex again they wouldn't really care. they already know that they can have a functional and fulfilling relationship without sex, so to divorce over it would just be silly. they didn't break up when they didn't have sex before, so they wouldn't now. I think although it would be difficult at times bc they both enjoy sex with each other so much, but they love each other far more than anything else (except their children sksfjkdk) so as long as they're together they'd manage.

I wanna also say that blair and chuck both having high sex drives and regularly having sex multiple times a day isn't a bad thing. blair doesn't need dan to swoop in and fix her (their complete lack of sex is... telling imo about their connection in every way) bc there's nothing wrong with her. blair loves having sex with chuck. chuck loves having sex with blair. they both consensually and mutually enjoy their sex life, and they both have a similar sex drive. sex is a big part of their relationship, but not bc it's the only part. it's another similarity between them and shows how well suited they are, as none of their other relationships are as fulfilling on every level for them.

just bc chair got together through sex doesn't change the fact that we see their relationship grow and change and develop with and without sex. just bc they have a lot of sex, on-screen and off, doesn't mean they don't still have the strongest connection in the whole show. sex is the most important part of a relationship for blair, so it makes sense that the man she has the deepest emotional and physical connection with is her true love. the idea that all their relationship is is sex has been disproven in the show, and I think more ppl need to understand that's what s6 was showing so there's no doubt about the strength of their connection in every way
