'Andrew Garfield and Tom Hardy are to play the iconic roles of Winston Smith and Big Brother in an audio adaptation of George Orwell's world-famous novel, 1984.
The dystopian tale is set in a nightmarish future, where a superstate named Oceania is held in the grip of a totalitarian leader, whose forces ensure freedom of thought and expression is harshly restricted.
The story unfolds from the perspective of Winston, the archetypal 'everyman', who begins to question the regime and – together with his colleague and lover, Julia (Cynthia Erivo) – seeks out a resistance group called The Brotherhood.
This latest adaptation also features celebrated Fleabag and All of Us Strangers star Andrew Scott as O'Brien, a mysterious figure who crosses paths with Winston and Julia on their journey.
This full cast for the audio drama also features Romesh Ranganathan as Parsons, Natasia Demetriou as Mrs Parsons, Chukwudi Iwuji as Charrington, Francesca Mills as Syme, Katie Leung as Ling and Alex Lawther as Ampleforth.
For Lawther, 1984 marks a reunion with director Destiny Ekaragha, who previously helmed episodes of Channel 4 comedy-drama The End of the F***ing World, which proved to be his breakout project.
Ekaragha said: "This is my first experience directing an audio drama, and what an honour it was to work so closely with a cast of this calibre. I can't wait for everyone to hear what the Andrews, Cynthia and Tom have done with these iconic characters."
1984 will be available to listen to on Audible from Thursday 4th April 2023, marking exactly 40 years since Winston's first diary entry in the classic novel. The title is available for pre-order now through Audible.
In addition to the high-profile actors, the production also features music from Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy and composer Ilan Eshkeri (Informer), who have crafted an original score performed by a 60-piece orchestra at Abbey Road studios.
The soundtrack includes two re-workings of Muse songs.
Aurelie de Troyer, Head of Regional Content, Europe at Audible, added: "This is 1984 like you've never heard it before.
"We've assembled a top team of creatives across the board, and the combination of the principal cast and Matt and Ilan's epic soundtrack is something quite extraordinary.
"Andrew Garfield was born to play Winston – just wait until you hear his performance."'
The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry (12): "Have you seen any hedgehogs"?
#onemannsmovies review of "The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry" (2023). #HaroldFryFilm. A really 'nice' and uplifting British film. 4/5.
A One Mann’s Movies review of “The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry” (2023).
Winner of the most spoilerific trailer of 2023 so far, “The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry” appears to be a big hit with the ‘silver haired brigade’ at the cinema. In the most recent UK box office figures it came in a respectable third, with takings of £785K. Certainly I was surprised at going into my afternoon…
The most notable thing that occurred with Pink Floyd since the 90's might have been a lack of the communication between the two camps. True, even calling them the two camps could be too much, because the group split into Waters and the rest. Still, they did eventually have a reunion at Live 8, though they didn't follow up this with a trip to a studio. However, something did happen to Gilmour as he finally finished his solo album On An Island afterwards. The latter doesn't include much of the Floyd personnel, though Richard Wright does appear on a couple of tracks there. Moreover, the entire disc does answer a surprising question – could David Gilmour function as a chill out musician? You see, I'm surprised no one remixed any of the tunes here for a Buddha Bar compilation.
most of the music in ts4 is Bad and Boring especially when you compare it to the music of the first 3 games. so i have it turned off 99% of the time. however, the ROM and StrangerVille soundtracks are so poppin that sometimes i take the risk and turn game music back on. it is not very often worth it given how shitty the rest of the soundtracks are

Isabeau Levito → Music from "The White Crow" by Ilan Eshkeri, performed by Lisa Batiashvili: Nureyev, choreographed by Yulia Kuznetsova
'Audible has been pushing the boat out lately with its dramatisations of literary classics, and this adaptation of George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four, marking 75 years since it was published, is a dark delight. Andrew Garfield leads a starry cast as Winston Smith, a worker at the Ministry of Truth trying to keep a lid on his frustrations with the Party, the ruling power that controls everything in the state of Oceania including what its citizens do, say and think. The omniscient Big Brother, voiced by Tom Hardy, keeps tabs on everyone via telescreens and brutally punishes dissenters, though this doesn’t stop Winston from purchasing a notebook to write down his illegal thoughts.
Cynthia Erivo plays Julia, who persuades Winston to take a trip out of the city and to the countryside where they indulge in some noisy alfresco fun that is best heard via the privacy of your own headphones. Meanwhile, Andrew Scott is quietly terrifying as O’Brien, an Inner Party member who tricks Winston into believing he is part of a revolutionary group called the Brotherhood. After exposing his wrongdoing, O’Brien spends months brainwashing Winston through acts of torture based on his private nightmares.
There are some good supporting turns from Romesh Ranganathan as Parsons, described as “a man of paralysing stupidity”, and Chukwudi Iwuji as the duplicitous Charrington, who rents out the room where Winston and Julia conduct their secret trysts. The score comes courtesy of Muse frontman Matt Bellamy and composer Ilan Eshkeri, and brims with melodrama and menace.'
