it’s Stupid Hours (aka way too early in the morning) and after 0.2 seconds of searching on YouTube ive come to the conclusion that there is no qsmp John Mulaney “The One Thing” animatic yet and ive gotta say guys. im disappointed.(/lh) im so used to every fandom having at least one The One Thing animatic that realizing there isn’t one for qsmp is bonkers to me. i’ve watched so many of these over the years that if you played The One Thing audio, i could probably recite it in time w the audio (i won’t say from memory bc my memory is shit.)

anyway here’s what i would personally do for a The One Thing animatic if i could draw. remember that this is gonna be skewed to the POVs im more familiar with so im sorry if your cubito doesn’t make it into the role you’d expect. i tried to include as many people as possible.

Edit: "Back in high school..." - not really necessary, but i imagine this story/"AU" taking place during the egg disappearance, which would explain the overly chaotic behavior of the islanders. not that they ever need a reason to be chaotic.

Narrator - Charlie. he’s not on the server as often but bc of that he would make a good “outside” pov narrator. also he’s just a got a really quick-with-it type of humor, cracking jokes and puns and doing wordplay/inprov’d songs at the drop of a hat, and he also loves telling stories.

Mr. Macnimara - Cucurucho. “And Mr. Macnimara was an asshole.” need i say more?

Jake Macnimara - Jaiden. beloved bird of the Federation, though that absolutely would not stop her from throwing a wild party for her friends in their offices if she could. Edit: also Quackity would make a really good option here. Cringefail man that the Federation likes to toy with, we love to see it. Also with his shit luck it makes sense that a party that he decides to host at the Fed offices (a bad idea in the first place tbf) would blow up in his face so hard.

(Bonus: Mrs. Macnimara - the Duck. the Watcher. ElQuackity. idk who’s funnier just whoever your heart desires.)

“And we all got up individually and thought: okay, let’s go over there, and destroy the place.” - split screen of Cellbit, Baghera, Maxo, and Bad. there could be more, like Mike, Etoiles, Phil, Tubbo, really anyone who hates the Federation and/or has an affinity for chaos. Foolish would be a really fucking funny option for this one because yeah he works for the Feds but He Absolutely Would. all of the characters would get up calmly, and on the word “destroy” flip to a Chaos Mode Engaged expression (Cellbit with a grin and bloodstains on his cheeks, Baghera w flames behind her and in her eyes, etc etc)

“People were drinking like it was the civil war and a doctor was coming to saw our legs off” - Tubbo and his backpack of 3749588383 chainsaws. tazerraft could also be a good option considering Pac’s love of beheading people and Mike’s generally unhinged behavior. tbh just anyone/everyone in morning crew.

Person who breaks the pool table - Etoiles. someone would dare him to and he’d get so fucking excited he would absolutely HURL himself at that pool table. (dogboy behavior)

Person who takes a shit on the computer - … look ive been blankly staring at this one for like 7 fucking minutes. my heart says Aypierre but i could not tell you why. just. anyone who would absolutely do some rancid, unhinged shit when given the opportunity. Foolish again maybe. idk.

Edit: "Something something, police." - Jaiden, if she isn't Jake Macnimara. She would totally say it in a "LOL UH-OH" manner. If not, I could also imagine Missa, Bagi, or Fit nervously/bluntly trying to warn people while laughing.

“Fuck da police!” - “Fuck da Feds!”/“Fuck da Federation!” from what i can tell, Charlie doesn’t have an active animosity towards the Federation, but a lot of his friends do, and he will do anything, ANYTHING to commit to the bit. he will do ANYTHING for the funnies, and if he thinks that shouting “Fuck da Feds!” at the top of his lungs is going to get a reaction out of people, he absolutely will.

Edit: "'I served my nickel, you come and take me!' confidence." - Mike. I have such a strong mental image of Mike drunkenly shouting this while Pac and Fit hold him up/hold him back. Fuga references my beloved. Also the fact that he was put in a Fed freezer for a while.

The Police - the Federation workers. obviously. bonus points for one unnamed guard/officer being impressed like “wooooow :0” and then widening the shot to reveal an unamused Agent 18 standing next to them, leaning into his walkie talkie saying, “Get the paddy wagon.”

“SCATTER!” - Phil. (if you know you know.) generally, people who don’t know Phil tend to think he’s pretty chill, so no one would expect him to do something like that. also when Charlie says “And my friend John—” it would cut to a ‘pause screen’ over the scene, Charlie coming on screen to clarify the “father” and “baby” parts by providing helpful pop-up images of family pictures with Chayanne, Tallulah, and Missa on screen. Resumes, presses play and the screen clears: “He grabbed a 40…”

Edit: "Until, two years later..." - again, not really necessary, but it could be something like, "Until, after Purgatory..."

Alex (guy who stole the photos) - Roier. HEAR ME OUT. Roier, similar to Phil, is just such an unassuming guy. he’s cheery and laughs a lot and cracks jokes, but deep down, he’s smart and he’s got a burning HATRED for the Federation. he’s not the kind of guy to start fights, but with everyone else causing chaos at the party, breaking shit in the offices/house, he would absolutely take the opportunity to steal Federation documents for his husband’s investigations. (or antique photos, if you want to keep with the high school setting/theme.) i mean he stole a fucking lamp from their offices once just because there was so much shit going on and he knew the Feds probably wouldn’t notice (iirc).

Edit: SOMETHING I FORGOT TO MENTION ABOUT ROIER. you could totally make the line “because it’s the one thing you can’t replace” a reflection of Bobby, who the Federation ‘killed’, so now he’s getting back at them. (i’ve put way too much thought into this.)

Hey. Idk if this is me growing up or just being disillusioned with inter celebs etc. Im a 23 yr old trans man so I grew up and was inspired by chella on the YouTube community. But now I just…don’t like chella man anymore. I feel like…he became an industry plant? Over the pandemic asking fans for money to send to him directly to help others and not showing where the money was going exactly incident as well as just becoming older I noticed he seemed to almost want to become the next Keith haring or basquiat? He almost…now seems very fake? He takes deals with brands to be representation but doesn’t do much to call out certain brands for their faults etc.

I give Chella credit in that he was one of the few transmen that I looked up while I was young, especially with him being BIPOC. Showing him to my family helped them understand me. But that's where the inspiration kinda stops, because it was painful to be surrounded by years-in-transition trans men online when I was absolutely nowhere I wanted to be. That was a me problem tho. But I also didn't know much about his whole donation incident.

Ig heres what I have to say. It's not great to view other people as your justification of your morals. We don't know how people have had to live or how they live now, we don't know what decisions they have to make, and we dont know what kind of fears or goals they have. Chella is allowed to do whatever he wants with his art or his modelling career, just like how I genuinely believe anyone else in the world is capable of making the right decisions for themselves (even if we dont like those decisions!). Im not really concerned with figuring out if hes an industry plant or a "class traitor" (lol) or even if he's "fake". To be honest, I'm all for BIPOC folks getting their $. Does that mean I enjoy seeing wealthy BIPOC folk perpetuate classism and racism? No. Just cuz someone is succeeding for themselves doesn't mean people cant critique them. I guess what Im saying is I see waaay too many people online take the things they enjoy and the people they follow as projections of their morals: "no! stop [Insert celebrity name] you're being problematic and its makes us fans look bad!" Like....Okay lmfao. People are grown adults and are going to make decisions for themselves. Just because you might enjoy a celebrity does not mean your morals are based on how good of a person they are.

and youre allowed to not like the same things anymore just like how people are allowed to change, for better or for worse. I think within online communities there is way too much pressure on "looking" like a good person versus actually being one...because sometimes BEING a good person makes you look absolutely vile in terms of online spaces/communities love of isolating, removing, and deleting "problematic" (and vulnerable) people from their spaces with no trial, discussion, or attempt at conflict mediation. Yea yea I do think people have every right to be criticized just as they have every right to make whatever decision they want, but what Im trying to get at is to really stop viewing anyone with a platform as someone you can other once they dont meet your standards. This is not the same as denouncing or critiquing someone for really egregious behavior (white supremacy, harrassment, bullying, interpersonal violence). Once you kinda start living by your own morals without needing other people's actions/behaviors to justify/define them, you learn to focus on building connections rather than destroying them.

again, this is a much nuanced topic and you prolly werent expecting me to go into this. but ive grown over the years and have engaged in some nasty and vile mob mentality behavior that i just dont vibe with anymore. im not really the kind of person now to speculate online or publicly what other people are doing or should be doing or whether theyre problematic or not. I don't really care about Chella man or most celebrities rn. People r just gonna be people, and I will always have empathy for those of marginalized identities. Free will, autonomy, and self determination goes both ways, but so does accountability, transformative justice, and reconciliation.

YUjkw4gfearglsrhsrh omfg thank you so much. I honestly started posting more for myself, and have notifs for my posts turned off so I don't focus too much on the engagement, but the asks I've already gotten so far makes me so hyped.

Anyway, I was thinking of calling them the As, but calling them the Aces actually fits since Alastor would be the leader and I'm planning to keep him asexual ( demisexual in specific. I don't remember if I mentioned this in his post or not. ) I just prefer my one-sided RadioStatic, even in other AUs. ( Edit: Angel and Rosie obviously aren't aces, though aces are represented by the different suits of ace cards idfk the pun is too great for leader Alastor ace man not to make )

Also, for Vox, I do plan on making him an older TV model, but I also plan on maybe making him monochromatic/achromatic ( aka no color or only one color. Most likely black/white/gray with blue mixed in. ) I thought that'd fit since he's gonna be, well, an older TV model that likely won't have color. I'm also thinking of using the style of older cartoons for his face somehow, but we'll see about that when I get to it.

And the design explanations is just cuz I put too much thought into these fuckers not to. I mean, I literally looked up car radio references for Alastor's design, which made Youtube show me ads for car fixing services lmao.

Also, just cuz I need to share this, I actually did a lineup of the Aces ( as I will call them from now on cuz that's just too good not to ) and I actually realized something

Their designs sort of share similarities. Fx. Alastor and Rosie both have some form of blue in their outfits ( which are obviously taken from the regular Vees, ) while Rosie and Angel are the only ones with hearts in their design. Similarly Alastor and Angel are also the only ones with some form of matter controlling ability??? ( smoke and electricity respectfully ) and if you take a look at the original Vees' designs, Vox and Valentino both have sharp teeth while Velvette don't In my Aces designs Alastor and Angel also coincidentally ended up being the only two having gold/yellow in their designs.

I just think it's neat that they have connections in their designs like that when you put them side-by-side and wanted to point it out idk I'll stop rambling now

was looking at a post while i wait for my stupid files to download on account of how google drive is garbage and was gonna reblog it but i went to put tags on and realized i like fundamentally disagreed with everything it said beyond the initial premise lmao. so instead im posting my almost-tags completely apropos of context and you can all make of it what you want

idk how i feel about this

there's a point where like - okay you're reading a novel but that's not necessarily what the problem is

i can read a novel easily if the novel is engaging but if it's not i have to sit outside so there's something else There. or put on music or whatever. i dont think i will ever improve my attention span for The TV not because i refuse to put the work in or whatever, but because it just fundamentally does not have enough going on for mei get so bored watching more than two or three short videos in a row because it's not tactile enough. i need to engage my senses differently. i really do not think any amount of working on it will help with that.

like i get what this post is getting at but some things do have a hard cap. i'm never ever going to be able to sit down for six hours and meditate in nature or whatever. it's just not something i have in me

there's something to be said for learning to keep yourself entertained offline but when i do this i don't lie to myself and claim it's because i fixed my godawful attention span. it's just that i know what things i enjoy. what i usually consider 'meeting myself where i'm at' is not working against the tide on this but giving myself breaks and finding ways to switch focus back and forth at strategic times so i can just like. exist

idk im not arguing with the post but i'm not not. i just don't know how remotely helpful this could actually be. also even the like - assertion that your attention span Will Always Get Worse unless you're metaphorically trekking uphill- WILL it? i don't know that i've seen an active decline in my own over the years - and when i do i know what that's from, and it''s not media or the internet; it's that i have stuff going on irl and have less patience to spend on what feels like wasted time. my attention span turns into a pinprick when i have deadlines. this isn't because The Media did anything to me it's because i have less toleration for what feels like time slipping away, and i can see how the current internet could set that up but in that case you want to handle like fomo and 'is tiktok more efficient than youtube' not like. treat it as a personal failing and force yourself to sit through things that feel inefficient on purpose to train, yourself to tolerate inefficiency? and it bounces back when i'm over it so it's not even relevant to this anyway since it's a temporary effect

Technically yes, but I try to not really engage with vaporwave as a genre or aesthetic because I feel like viewing it that way can negatively impact the way I view an actual work. Like I dont want to listen to something and think "this is good for vaporwave" or something, yknow, I wanna take stuff on its own merits. That being said I do enjoy what would be considered the "vaporwave sound" and if you watch my streams im very obviously vaporwave/webcore/y2k/etc. adjacent in visual style (tho i think the "outrun" branch kinda sucks and needs to go away.)

The first thing I heard that introduced me to that type of sound was "Flowers" by bEEdEEgEE ft. Lovefoxxx and is still something I come back to. (Photosensitivity warning btw)

"Vaporwave" wasnt well known as a term yet, so I just knew this particular song hit different at the time.

Then obviously Floral Shoppe hit, which I still think is good even if it has a lot of baggage associated with it nowdays (effectively created the "genre" and "aesthetic" elements that got overused/misunderstood/etc.) At that point I would probably have said I was a fan, even though I really didn't engage with the scene that much. As such, idk who all turned out to be dirtbags so I'm not gonna vouch for any of them as people except Vektroid who, ironically, I met as a fellow vtuber rather than through her music, still kinda baffled we're mutuals tbh lol.

I think I mostly just listened to Far Side Virtual, A Heart Full of Love, The occasional PrismCorp, I've enjoyed what I've heard of Windows96 Also enjoyed the rare "can we make this a thing?" stuff like this Especia track, and honestly just a bunch of shit that appeared on my youtube that is long forgotten.

Over time I started to listen to more Future Funk than Vaporwave because of the Artzie Music youtube channel. Some songs I would actually go back to are:

After listening to some of the stuff in my youtube likes from however many years ago, there absolutely was a lot of "this is good for what it is" type of stuff that I don't think I would listen to again, so I'm just sharing the stuff that I think holds up.

i dont think rhett likes link as a person that much. the way link has been joking about how "rhett doesnt have emotions" i think reveals more about the nature of their relationship at this point. link has been pushing a lot while rhett doesnt have much to give other than what he know he "supposed" to give. dont get me wrong i think there is affection of some kind between them and the history isnt something you can just set aside and the promise of a duo is still attractive but... imo one of the reasons why link is adamant at annoying/furstrating rhett is that its one of the only clear show of emotions he can make rhett feel for him at this point. its a little in link's head sure but i do believe rhett is slowly realizing some stuff and i dont think its those "gay" feelings that people like to talk about here. i realize im reading into a lot of things but i cant help but feel this push and pull and all these prying i love you's out of rhetts mouth lately speaks to an insecurity that is a little exagerated on links side but also not entirely unfounded. i think you can still have a certain amounth of love for a person in your hearth -whether the idea of them or the history of them or an affection that lingers etc. but slowly realize you dont like the way that they are/present themselves anymore.-its hard to find interests that you both actually enjoy/share that isnt also your job(lol), intelectually engaging conversations are sparse and inequal and sometimes more frustrating than informing etc. which is a very difficult thing to handle on both sides. doesnt have to mean its an end but its just would be a lot of difficult shifts that should be taken seriously and not for granted in the name of promises. idk. this is a little strech and i normaly i dont like to do this but i cant help but feel that. I get what you are saying. It is a thought I used to have occasionally; that Rhett doesn’t seem to love Link as genuinely or that he is getting done with him. Most of the time, something happened that made me feel proven wrong.

The thing about them fighting was also significantly dramatised in the interview - not because it might not have been dramatic at the time it happened but because the interviewers clearly and humorously wanted to play it up. I personally felt uncomfortable with the mildly comedic reenactment of Rhett’s apology. I believe this should have stayed between them or that when it was between them it was definitely serious and so it didn't deserve to be a part of this youtube interview. I mean, you know it’s serious enough when Link is staring and not talking and Rhett is tearing up.

We should always keep in mind all the things that are unsaid because there was a lot unsaid in this case. Link had briefly mentioned this recently, the whole sending an email about needing their friendship to be more of an actual friendship thing. He said at both occasions that there was a warning of “I can’t keep doing this if we are not gonna be actual friends”. The thing is, what was his alternative really? To mess it all up and work solo? As a YouTuber? As an engineer? As a what? This was a huge risk. Link also said he sent this email with Christy’s blessings. Something doesn’t add up. Christy isn’t crazy about Mythical but that would be a huge and tough change if this email caused a breakdown in their friendship. I wonder whether Christy’s self interests were getting in the way of the advice she would be giving in that case. Because a sensible advice would be for Link to be less absolute about it and secure that their business remained undisturbed no matter what happened to their friendship. Unless, idk, things were THAT shitty that Link 'd rather end his whole super successful career. Besides, it is bad when a friend grows emotionally distant, however when this friend is still physically close and you see him all the time and you have based all your income on him, it is unwise and very dramatic to blow it up because you aren’t as attached to the hip friends as in middle school. Welcome to adulthood, I guess. Therefore this doesn’t add up perfectly in my opinion and I would expect Christy to be more like "grow up and do your job without obsessing over Rhett's friendship" than say "You go girl, blow it all up if you are not the best of the besties again", so I once again conclude there was more that made Link felt so invested in the genuineness of Rhett’s feelings, which caused him to feel heartbroken when their friendship was getting more impersonal. The way Link implored for a big talk, for months or even years I recall, for Rhett to open up about his feelings to him is not typical of 40 year old males being friends but, then again, you could argue much of them and their arrangement isn't typical anyway. I could add to my point that in the past years they have been clearer about the frankly quite strange ways they avoided each other outside work but this would lead the answer into paths you are not interested in.

However, Link did not imply Rhett did not have emotions or emotions towards him in specific. He said Rhett does not verbalize or externalize the actually existing feelings. That's what he usually says, though sometimes it seems he is unsure of the nature / genuineness of Rhett's emotions indeed.

Rhett has fought to improve on this aspect throughout the years. It does not always work but there is effort. Sometimes it affects him quite a bit that Link thinks that. It took him some time to realize it but apparently he gave Link a massive tearful apology in which he explained he thought all along that whatever they did was them living this friendship. I don't know if that's 100% sincere but it seems he cared enough to come clean about it, apologize, improve on himself and listen to Link etc So I still think he loves Link a lot. Besides, remember how crazed and needy Rhett was towards Link during quarantine? Also, aside from that interview, Rhett is more often than not the one to whine for not seeing each other many times in a month or Link not inviting him to this or that, or not caring enough for a shared hobby or not being provisional for him as much as Rhett is for Link's sake. Therefore I think we get this idea because Link is so much more open and dramatic about his needs that makes us inequally exposed to their viewpoints and as a result we feel for Link more. But I think Rhett cares about Link a lot. Sure, he is annoyed at him often because Link can cause that to people lol but I think the good emotions and all the past and all he has with him by far overcome some exasperation that might be there. They do have different love languages, too.

As for the song, thanks for the link, I was looking for the lyrics. Had my eyes nearly drop out of my eyesockets in order to read them XD Well, it's certainly an angry song and [MASSIVE EDIT BECAUSE I MISREAD ONE WORD] it’s almost certainly about people criticising them for abandoning the faith and how it still stings.

i think i should let all my game accounts die (except howrse. because i think thats actually a good thing? will elaborate later.) and then ill go and just leave them like that? and if i want consistent engagement through playing them then i will do it. i keep on logging onto games just to get a "daily reward" which i think is a pretty disgusting thing to implement in your game first of all, but im also pretty hooked up on it so i think i will just. not care? i will let my nationstates die (im so sad about it, but i literally do not care about it anymore because i just log on to keep it from dying? i genuinely do not even play it anymore i dont improve my country in it nothing happens at all. im just attached to it despite my attachment having no basis in my actual feelings.)

oh, also, youtube is forbidden unless im literally looking up a certain topic or if im looking at specific channels for specific things to see. i wont ever use it to look at new videos and i will NEVER. and i repeat never. use it for music anymore. i am not allowed to click on ANY music ever on it (i guess i could make an exception for all iterations of bad apple because i literally binge th........ no i cant, actually, repeatedly listening to the same song will just make me binge everything else and get obsessive about other music i dont wanna hear about. this is the price until i get to self-regulate myself)

hm, what else? oh yeah i actually have to do stuff, i think. i should fill my daily quota of things i do (my music listening log which is a daily thing, i should get one entry ready once and thats it. no more. i think listening to more than one album is fine its just that i think im spending way too much time on those and having some sort of regulation for it may be good. makes me appreciate music more, i think.

ohhhh oh my fucking god i should also set up a list of things to actually do. like, i have hobbies, i actually do, they are simply buried beneath all the stuff i obsessively do for no reason at all because my brain forces me to "consume stimuli". so i will go on and do a list of things and then maybe depending on what im feeling ill do those? seems like a good idea to me. and i will really have to push myself to actually do things i like but maybe itll stick as a habit? i really hope so.

also yes, this plan is taking into account that humans (i am a human) are random creatures and we respond to stimuli which is how restricting most things in my life won't have a lot of effect and it may be detrimental, however, i would love to state that i am swapping meaningless, distasteful stimuli for a different type of enriching one, because i think improving my "quality of life" this way will be rewarding, even if it seems punishing.

and when im gonna start doing this...........? now. yeah. now. like, if you wait around and go "hm, i actually dont know, i should start at new years eve, i should start tomorrow, next week, next month" youre not gonna do anything because you are letting your own obsessiveness get in the way of your plans and you didn't strengthen your will towards doing what you have to do. so yes, im doing it now. BUT im also just setting up everything i need to do so faults. mistakes are fine i just have to repeatedly do it so my brain gets it. its fine

i think im starting to see an odd trend in youtube videos of "I modded [insert game] so that my [parent] can beat it!" and out of curiosity i looked at them and just... it made me feel so bad for the parents that their own child thought they needed to dumb down the game so badly that it practically plays itself

like the first one i ever saw of the format was for Minecraft and that one at least makes sense cause it's a very open-ended game and most people aren't even gonna know there's a whole progression system/bosses, and iirc the creator even went so far as to be like "we need this to be simplified, but not so much that it gets boring, we still want the game to be engaging" which i think is the only time in any of this video trend where that's thought of. all the other ones feel kinda like "yeah lol my parent is dumb and old and not with it so let's make the game play itself and be boring" when the fact of the matter is that unless they never played games as a kid, they probably just played different games, and try to activate old muscle memory that's either totally gone or just doesn't work for the game they're trying to play now

want your parents to play and be good at a video game? give them a brief summary to pique their interest, maybe guiding them here or there, and just let them play the game. skill comes with time and while it may not end up immediate, eventually they'll get how things work and, you know, play and enjoy the game

sorry for the mini rant, it's 10 am and im half asleep, i should probably head off and go pass out

In light of Recent Events, hey fellow Brits and especially student renters and people paying bills inclusive rent— I'm a tenants' rights activist based in England. We have a £400 tax rebate coming up starting in October (£66-67pm October to March). It's a direct offset of your energy bills. The .gov website specifically mentions you.

The wording is a bit vague on the site so I really need to stress that if you are paying bills inclusive rent you are still paying your bills. There is NO acceptable reason for your landlord to claim ANY percentage of that monthly rebate. Please look into your local tenants' union, see what they are doing, alert them to the situation.

The rebate money is YOURS. It should NOT go to someone affluent enough that they can afford an extra house, in most cases houses. We're about to watch the government spend millions of £s on some 96 year old woman's funeral while millions of us freeze and starve. That's fucking unacceptable. Claim your fucking money from your landlord and become a huge fucking problem if they don't hand it over immediately.

stuff i’m working out that i like or dislike as i live alone: (spanish edition below)

- vicks vaporub and some cold and flu medication when sick is infinitely better than just using paracetamol. (and hot tea!!!)

- mouthwash is super important, as is brushing teeth twice a day DAILY (throwback to the wisdom tooth incident)

- easy skincare: cerave or cetaphil face wash and simple moisturiser and eye cream is realistically all you need, inexpensive and works really well

- supplements because realistically with a university diet you’re not gonna be getting all the nutrients your body needs. iron supplements help with tiredness when anaemic, vitamin d if you play sports for bones and joints

- essential oils/pillow spray + brown noise or rain sounds from youtube = the perfect nights sleep (especially in noisy uni halls)

- instead of buying dominos pizza, buy the £6 tesco pizza deals with a side dip and pizza. it’s stuffed crust and actually really good, it’ll save you so much money as a student

- a big water bottle; im talking like 2 litres. it just makes you want to drink water because you’re carrying it around all day and staying hydrated actually makes a massive difference

- it is so important to continue your hobbies or things that bring you joy!!! having time to play games every day literally keeps me sane, as does playing sports! don’t underestimate the importance of hobbies

- HOT WATER BOTTLE. when the weather is cold, when you’re on your period, whatever. it just makes you feel more comfortable. the heat is so comforting

- AN AIRFRYER IS UR BEST FRIEND FOR COOKING AT UNIVERSITY <3 you can literally cook entire meals in 10 minutes and it’s easy to clean. will save ur life

- lofi music helps make doing anything peaceful and podcasts really help you get out of your own head if you’re an overthinker (the more silly they are the better!) ones abt life are good and all but realistically it’s gonna make you overthink more. i recommend under the influence podcast, it’s a gem

- engaging in shit that tests your brain every day is really important, but there’s a balance to that. do the fucking wordle it’s a great 10 mins of daily trivia and makes life more interesting

- HAVE A ROUTINE AND STICK TO IT!!! it helps you think that you’ve got your life tgt (tbh you have), and if people don’t stick around in your life forever, hobbies/routine/your degree will!!!! find some permanence within yourself

- having a little plant to look after makes life so much more interesting and bearable when times get tough

- GO TO UR CLASSES IF YOU CAN. please for the love of god it’s so important, yes you can catch up at home but being in a lecture is so much better for focus. higher attendance has a positive correlation to higher grades!!!

- COLACAO ON A HOT DAY IS THE BEST. literally fucking ELITE.

- do not underestimate the power of mosquito repellent and some cream for after you inevitably get bitten. it works WONDERS.

- alleoli goes with everything

- ALWAYS keep a water bottle on you no matter where you go bc the spanish sun WILL dehydrate you. and most places in spain (including small villages and parks as well as cities) have water bottle refilling stations so USE IT.

- keep some photos from home on your wall and schedule a regular call with someone from home, really helps home sickness and the scary side of moving abroad on your own

- kiss peoples cheeks when you meet them. it’s not weird, that’s just europe. it’s only awkward if you make it, trust me. (you’ll get used to it!)

ah you changed your user and i could not find you! how could you lol! glad you're still here <3 i'm gonna add to the filler spree convo we're mostly in rn and idk idk i don't know if it's mostly fandom. i feel like it's money?? why would a dude who makes six figures on patreon alone care about youtube's adsense?? idk idk greed?? but since it takes more effort to routinely make a cohesive and engaging plot and the views for lore drop videos (which i wish erik would stop those even tho i like lore and incorporate the info into videos with relevant plot lines like how in books and movies they don't recommend those writers info dump) and plot-heavy works that aren't inversion don't get views.

the only 100k view videos the past 3/4 months are sleep audios cause of those casual listeners (and not even the gavin one which at least had some v v v slight character development in it). if all you had to do was stick a mic near your chest for your heartbeat and breathe to get 140k+ views lmao and your (albeit poorly done) final episode of a villain's plot doesn't crack 50k then you'll prob heed to those casual listeners. he used to make celebratory discord posts when characters got their first 100k views on a video, he made a big deal when that now-moved lasko in the movie theater audio reached a million views, and he had a patreon livestream around when he made the mario tournament audio where he lightly mentioned it being a bummer when videos didn't do well (he made light of it but still).

he mentioned in an old q&a about doing this to tell stories the way he wanted, but i feel like the views and money are what's steering him away from it??

I feel like money is literally the only other option aside from the possibility that hes simply lost interest in the stories he was telling. Maybe he still cares about telling good stories deep down, but i think even if thats true the views and money is winning out. Which is just sad, this started out as a hobby and it should stay as such. Especially with him having so many patrons on top of his IRL job. Patrons don’t just…. Leave easily. He might lose casual viewership, but patrons and dedicated fans would stick around if he started valuing quality>quantity again. Do you know how happy i would be if he started uploading less often in favor of releasing better written, plot-centric videos??? You would Not believe it. And youtubers who do that literally garner a dedicated fanbase, there are artists out there who have a trove of patrons supporting them through several months without releasing art because they love it and its of high quality. Erik is more than capable of doing that.

I really do just think the man has so much potential, and i feel its not being executed to its peak right now. If he sat down and gave himself even like…. Idk one upload a week or one every two weeks, he could be writing better thought out videos.

Anyways, i definitely agree with you that its the money and views steering him away. Which is a damn shame, bc once again… 6 figures on patreon + a day job. He does not need to kneel for The Algorithm™️.

Views/hits/likes dont determine the value or quality of your art. Ignore the views, write a good story because its something you wish to make FUCK what other people think! Create from your heart knowing its the best you could put out in that moment, not just something you think will garner views. You know how amazing some videos with 1k views are on youtube??? Fics with 100 hits??? Art with 6 likes???? Just Create with all you are, others will find your passion and feel blessed to have been able to do so.

THANK YOU RANDOM CITIZEN OK SO this is gonna be messy asf bc im on phone but i need it out there so. im gonna talk about just like Dream specifically because yes. this is gonna be a long post you can skip past it

so like the thing is about dream blowing up so quickly is that he knew and was confident that he was in fact going to blow up and he talks about it as a matter of fact like, he even said he told Sapnap and George to come along with him like he was confident that its gonna happen and 1. we love us a cocky man and 2. i wanted to know why so i went through his channel and old videos and i cannot stress how perfectly he executed manipulating the YouTube algorithm in his favour.

Most of it wasn't really luck, but there did have to be a certain point of skills for him to gain as much attention as he did, like obviously being cracked at the game but also being charismatic, he has an easy good personality and him being at something that so many people love was such a good set up like. minecraft was the perfect base for him to gain attention because it has such a wide audience and so many people love interacting with any of its content, its practically too easy. so its not really luck, just a happy coincidence.

That's the setup, just Minecraft and then we have the first few videos on his channel which are again- perfect for people to find his channel, and i like to imagine he had sort of a set plan before he started his channel of what he's gonna do, probably long the lines of something like this:

short videos that draw people to watch them in like 4am when theyre bored - clickbait someone everyone knows (in his case pewdiepie) those will make people discover his channel and gain him a lot of views because people are going to want to figure out what seed he used and they'd be curious about that, and some people would actually look for it.

there was also the "cursed video" era, they were satirical and funny and unoriginal and glorious because people love them, and they're the type of stuff that get recommended to minecraft enjoyers.

slightly more original content but isnt new if you think about it - slightly longer videos but in a subject that people are curious about (as he's done it- "the unsolved mystery of...." and a bunch of others, those will make people actually click his channel to seek more videos of the same idea

and then its a cycle of those two for a while, keeps people engaged and grow fond of his channel

but then he throws a couple of videos that will make people stay there for him and not the content. aka the "minecraft but xray is on series" and it works, he keeps a level of engagement throughout the video and make people grow fond of him without them losing interest and draws out the video for around 20 minutes and thats when the mod videos started coming in

fully original content, with friends to keep the video from being dull (minecraft but... series)

and at that point he's practically made it, he just needed that little push to make all people flock to his content. thats where manhunt came in, in its early points at least.

i wholeheartedly believe that the speedrunning thing wasnt originally meant to be something to draw clout, if it was i reckon he wouldve made speedrunning videos before- but he started adding some speedrun videos and that helped people see just how good he was at the game.

but that's just like a very rough idea of it from what ive seen by scrolling through his channel, and he also talked about his name in anthony's interview, he said that Dream was a name he picked because everyone knew it, everyone knew how its spelled and its easy to remember, its just so well thought out and he just reached a point where he doesnt need those deliberate moves because now people use him for clickbait, hell even pewdiepie did.

it just. blows my mind no one else or not many other people really thought to do it the way Dream did or didn't manage to execute it as well because its such like, an easy thing to do sort of yk? you just need to have basic knowledge of how algorithms work. But thats just my opinion on it! feel free to add more if you want or if theres anything else you want to point out :D
