By far the dumbest movie reference no one caught in Good Omens is : The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse

I'm working on a theory that requires many hours of movie watching, so here we are. Many people have already mentioned that the nazi zombies/Furfur is a The League of Gentlemen comedy troupe shoutout. But I'm taking it one step crazier. Remember the opening scene from the 1941 minisode of S2E4, the one with the london bombing and the Angel statue in the bottom right corner ?

Haha sorry my bad. That's the climax intro scene of the movie The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse. Here's the opening scene of the 1941 minisode:

You can excuse the confusion after seeing both, with how they look pretty much identical (yes this is giving me The Tales of Hoffmann PTSD, thanks for asking) And it's not very coincidental when you know who helped write the minisode.

You know, just the fourth member of The League of Gentlemen and writer of the movie LG Apocalypse. So shall we tease out all the (I'm warning you) EXTREMELY dumb quotes and story beats this terrible movie has lent to the 1941 episode? There are quite a few. But there's also a potential story arc that isn't so dumb... (TW offensive comedy, including mild gore)

In order to understand this you probably have to know a bit of background on British show The League of Gentlemen. "[A] surreal British comedy horror sitcom... follows the lives of bizarre characters, most of whom are played by three of the show's four writers – Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, and Reece Shearsmith – who, along with Jeremy Dyson, formed the League of Gentlemen comedy troupe in 1995." You don't need to know all of the characters or backstory of the show, just that it's a fictional town with many fictional characters played by the same three writers (and an invisible fourth).

(Also known as all these people right here) Want to know who they plays a stand-in for Jeremy Dyson in LG Apocalypse and gets murdered first with black marker on his face?

Say hello, baby Sheen!

So we've seen the bombing scene, what about the car driving through fire and Aziraphale's suggestive line at the beginning?

Yup.

Do the characters make a deal with a Reece Shearsmith character to enter the real world through a church?

HECK YEAH. Bonus points for the green background.

A gag about fake lips with Steve? Sure.

Steve Pemberton seen here as a nazi zombie, and also here playing "Herr Lipp" (also known in the actual script as "the worst pun in the world" in the movie. Groan). What about Mark Gatiss Stealing binoculars from Steve to spy on two important characters? But of course.

Surely not the arm falling off too?

Oh dang. It's a big plot point in LG Apocalypse you say? Then, in the climax, does someone in dark sunglasses who doesn't know how a rifle works fire it at a main character, and the other character who he misses says fuck? Now you're pulling off my arm..

Well I'll be damned. The only difference here being Steve's head exploding, naturally.

I'll admit, I have trouble seeing where a giant 3 headed chimera beast that destroys a bunch of characters fits in at the end of the 1941 miniode, but I don't think 1941 is meant to be a stand in for the whole movie, because at that point in the movie the role of the main characters shifts to become the real versions of Shearsmith and Gatiss, not the characters. But even though the end of the movie doesn't track with 1941, I think the moral at the end is interesting : "In the church, Lipp says he will kill Gatiss. The other characters try to dissuade him, saying that once all the writers are dead, Royston Vasey will cease to exist and they will die. Lipp claims that they will in fact be better off, because as long as they're controlled by someone else they have no free will and can never change for the better. Tipps tells Lipp that because he saved the day and can therefore change, Lipp need not kill Gatiss. He persuades Lipp to hand him the gun, only for Tipps to accidentally fire it and kill Gatiss.

With all the writers now apparently dead, the residents of Royston Vasey prepare for the worst. Instead, everything calms down and The Apocalypse is averted. The characters realise they now have free will. Herr Lipp adopts some orphaned children, the vet, Mr Chinnery, finds a rabbit and is able to take care of it without killing it, and Bernice and Pauline become romantically involved. Tipps leaves the church, waving goodbye to Edward, Tubbs and Papa Lazarou. It appears that Royston Vasey can continue to exist independently of its dead creators." This struggle for free will outside of the plan originally set out by their creators, especially in the context of said creators not really caring about them anymore, really starts sending red flags up for me. Crowley's existential crisis at the beginning of S2E1 seems to be mulling over similar themes. The lack of any God narrator as in season 1 might be a change in storytelling technique, but might also point the the creator being absent, or having moved on without really letting her original creation know it gets to exist on it's own now. Funnily enough, this is the second movie with shot for shot quotes throughout, that places a specific set of characters at the center of their own deeper plot that has a meta level to the storytelling. I'm starting to think there's a pattern here...

A lost soul,

He lives but hardly talks

He is waiting for her,

The memories flooded his mind, as he remembered her delicate figure, rosy champagne colored eyes and gold hair that represented the sun. She had him wrapped around her finger, there is nothing that she would ask of that he wouldn’t do. If she asked him, he would kill himself for her. He was a moth drawn to the flame, the flame being her aurous hair. She would never be unloved. Everyone he knew adored her. Roxana found solace in her free spirit, nobody could tell Y/n what to do. Jeremy adored the way Y/n approached things with a brazen manner, she was never afraid and never seen without a smile on her face. Her smile was so contagious, her laugh made others lips curl into a silly grin. Y/n was always so straightforward, if she wanted something she would get it, no matter what it took. Maria was enchanted by her and was always present whenever y/n danced. To Maria Y/n resembled a flower fairy, delicate and graceful. Maria adored the way her body moved so elegantly, it was as if the wind and skies were dancing with her as well. She was everything, everyone’s sweetheart. However, he was nothing. He was a man used as a tool by his father and unloved by his mother. He barely ever spoke, he lived as though he were a corpse. He hoped one day he would be able to feel something, anything would be fine, just something. So that he could be good enough for her and not so dull as his mother always told him.

He stared at a portrait of y/n in his room with glossy eyes, he had portraits of y/n everywhere in his room. He gently placed his hand onto the portrait and he felt his heart shatter. This was a portrait of y/n feeding him her favorite chocolates and when he was first introduced to lippe tea, that he now drank everyday to feel spiritually closer to her. Oh y/n, you had only been here for a few years, yet captivated everyone's heart, you truly are a cruel woman. He lay down on his couch recalling nights that y/n had spent in his room, refusing to take the bed and sleeping on the couch instead. Her scent still lingered, it was hard to get over her. It had only been a day since he lost her, yet everything was falling apart. Only nine months back, he had been so happy upon receiving the news, he didn’t know that this would have ended the life of his beloved. How the scent of blood had filled the room, the way she laid lifeless on her bed. While the midwife held a small baby in her arms. He lost every bit of sanity he had at that scene, brutally murdering every servant that was in sight before the other residents had to knock him out. It took all of Roxana, Jeremy, Grizelda, Charlotte and the other children’s strength to manage to overpower Dion. The others felt crushed as well. Now who could possibly sing Jeremy to sleep every night? Who could Jeremy complain to about his life? Who would calm him down when he was hurting…. Who would nurse Roxana back to health whenever she went overboard with the poisonous butterflies? Who would Roxana have late night conversations under the stars with? Who would she dance with? Who would calm down Charlotte in an instant? Who would embrace Charlotte whenever she was hurt? Who would kiss all of the scratches better on Charlotte’s face? Who would Grizelda gossip with? Who would be Grizelda’s best friend? Most importantly, who would love Dion, as she had loved him?

He sees her everywhere

Standing, he is waiting for her

A rose in his hand,

Grizelda was the first to learn about the news from y/n, being y/n’s best friend she started to worry when she noticed y/n’s stomach hurt every morning and y/n feeling nauseous most of the time for a few days. So as any concerned best friend would do, she offered to take y/n to the clinic, however y/n could barely walk. Helping y/n up, and slinging her arm around her shoulder in an effort to support her weight she carried y/n to the carriage. Y/n was in a seemingly bad condition when they had reached the clinic. After a thorough examination, the doctor concluded that y/n was just fine, her pregnancy symptoms were simply harsher than what usual people had. Grizelda was over the moon to hear the news, she was going to be an aunt! Y/n couldn’t wait to tell her husband the news, meanwhile Grizelda could hardly keep in her excitement as she swung her arms around her best friend who was still extremely unwell. Both women walked back to the mansion quietly, that's when y/n saw Dion walking towards her room. He had seen that y/n’s appetite had increased the past few days and had brought her some chocolates for the both of them.

“Dion darling!!” She screamed

This was Grizelda’s que to leave, she didn’t need the lovey-dovey couple to make her feel single.

“Yes?” Dion sighed

For someone unwell, she was definitely very enthusiastic.

“Calm down love, what's the matter?” He asked looking her up and down

“You're going to be a father!” she screamed

Dion froze. It took him a few minutes to process the information and when he finally processed the information he went and embraced his wife who had been nervously staring at him. He had gently lifted her off the ground and spun her around with a soft smile adorning his lips.

“I’m going to take care of our child, I don’t want to be like my father,” He said, staring at y/n’s stomach.

“I hope so too~ But I know you Dion, you will make a wonderful father~~ my loveeee~~” Y/n laughed while being spun around.

Maria heard the sound of laughter and walked towards it, she walked in on her son spinning his wife around.

Y/n met Maria’s gaze and jumped out of Dions arms and into hers,

“Mama~~ you're going to be a grandmother!!”

It also took Maria quite some time to process everything she had just said. Maria was holding a rose in her hand and picked the flower up and tucked it behind y/n’s ear. She then strengthened the embrace. “I hope the baby looks like you, i’m so glad to hear this news,” Maria had tears near the corner of her eyes. She kissed y/n’s cheek and skipped off happily.

Later that evening

Jeremy came skipping into her room as well,

“Y/n!!! Fountain told me that you love HIM more than ME the nerve of that guy!!! Hmph… you love ME more right?” Jeremy came in complaining

Y/n was laying in her bed once again feeling unwell, the maids were sent out to get her a comfortable nightgown to sleep in. Suddenly his foul mood turned into worry. He rushed to her side of the bed.

“Y/n! Are you okay?? Why are you laying down?? You don’t look well!” Jeremy was panicking.

“I’m fine…it's just…How do you feel about being an uncle?”

He had just learned how children were made a few months ago, so he was a little bothered and flustered to hear this news…

“I’m going to be an uncle??? HOW DARE DION TOUCH YOU!? I’ll kill him!” Jeremy started telling you multiple torcher methods he was going to try on Dion causing you to sweatdrop.

“Think about it Jeremy, you will be an uncle-” Y/n sighed

“Damn right!! I’ll be the best uncle in existence,” Jermey’s mood switched completely.

Thank god he wasn’t going to murder your husband.

Jeremy’s loud mouth had informed the rest of the Agriche estate and everyone knew the news by the next morning. The next morning when you were busy eating the ice cream Dion had brought you very early that day, Roxana walked in to congratulate you.

“Oh y/n, I am truly fortunate to have someone like you in my life and I feel blessed for once, to know that there will be two of you,” She sighed

“Thank you so much for your kind words, Roxana. Just in case anything happens you’ll take care of it for me right?” Y/n asked

“With my life, I owe everything to you,” Roxana pledged

“You are just the sweetest,” y/n sighed, as Roxana was taking her leave.

Making Roxana Smile ever so slightly. Now all of this was a distant memory.

Apart from her, he is expecting nothing

Nothing around him makes sense

And the air feels heavy

“Please, love our daughter as you have loved me,” Y/n rapidly said, ready to lose her life any moment.

“Y/n…don’t leave me…please…I need you,” There was evident hurt in Dion’s voice, it made y/n’s heart shatter

“I-i can’t believe i’m going to lose you,” He said crying into y/n’s shoulder as she slowly lost her life.

“I will love our daughter, I will make sure she knows what a wonderful mother she would have had,” he sighed, a lovesick smile across his lips

As Dion walked out of the room disheartened and empty killing servants along the way, the midwife timidly handed him a small baby. His baby. He would not kill her, she helped deliver this bundle of joy to him after all. He would protect his daughter with his life, she was the only thing that his wife had left him with and he would make sure to stand by his word. Dion refused to hand his baby to anyone. Nobody had asked for the baby girl either as they were all grieving the loss of y/n.

Jeremy was the first to approach Dion and place a hand on his shoulder. Even though he hated Dion, he knew that Dion was suffering the most out of them all. After all, Y/n was the only thing Dion loved and now Y/n was gone.

“C-can I hold her?” Jeremy crocked

Dion looked hesitant but then remembered how y/n had always doted and adored Jeremy, so he reluctantly handed him the bub. The tiny baby had her eyes closed but Jeremy noticed that she had inherited her mother’s beautiful golden hair. Bitterly smiling, Jeremy began to stroke the small amount of hair.

“L-look she has y/n’s hair,” Jeremy said in an attempt to cheer everyone up

Everyone rushed towards Jeremy, Sierra cried harder looking at the beautiful hair, while Maria forced a smile across her pained face. Roxana smiled hoping that she would be able to hold the baby next, after all she had promised y/n she would look after her child. Grizelda had covered her face entirely looking at the baby, she couldn’t believe that her dearest friend whom she shared many wonderful memories with was now gone She would never see her again. Truth hit her really hard, she felt paralyzed as she reached out her hand to touch the baby. Charlotte just hoped that if heaven really did existed, y/n would watch over them.

An absent expression,

He is alone, he often talks to her

He, He is not crazy

“Y/n.. today our daughter opened her eyes and you wouldn’t believe it but.. She has your eyes…your eyes have always been so beautiful. I'm glad our daughter looks like you. You were the only thing I was living for but now…My daughter…I’m glad I met you y/n. Even if we weren’t able to spend the rest of our lives together, I have no regrets for meeting you.” He sighed speaking to a photo of y/n beside his bed. He heard the crying of his baby coming from the cot in his room and he went towards the child, picking it up gently and embracing it. As he pet the baby’s back gently in an attempt to calm her down, he pointed at a portrait of y/n on his wall,

“That's your mother, isn’t she beautiful?” He said admiring the way she looked in the painting.

The baby in his hands cooed and made grabby hands towards the picture of her mother trying to reach for her. Only to feel the surface of a canvas.

“I wish she were here too, she would have loved you dearly,” Dion said, feeling the fabric of the canvas in his hands.

Thoughts on the movie "The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse"?

It's the movie ever.

I love the dynamic between Herr Lipp, Hilary Briss, and Geoff Tipps. I wouldn't have thought that those three characters would've worked well together, but they really do. Geoff got some really good characterisation, and the film actually made me like Herr Lipp and Hilary instead of being terrified of them.

It's also got one of my favourite fanfiction tropes in it: characters end up in the real world and realise they aren't real.

I also like that how the league play themselves (with the sole exception of Jeremy, who was played by Michael Sheen for some reason) kinda shows what they think of themselves. Especially Steve.

Plus there's Reece in a tux covered in blood.

As a very picky reader, I shall recommend stories that grab my attention and captivated my heart and soulll!

Summary:

The beautiful Athanasia was killed at the hands of her own biological father, Claude de Alger Obelia, the cold-blooded emperor! It’s just a silly bedtime story… until one woman wakes up to suddenly find she’s become that unfortunate princess! She needs a plan to survive her doomed fate, and time is running out. Will she go with Plan A, live as quietly as possible without being noticed by the infamous emperor? Plan B, collect enough money to escape the palace? Or will she be stuck with Plan C, sweet-talking her way into her father’s good graces?!

WHY YOU SHOULD READ:

- i mean, who havent read this godsent golden story??? p.s you’re missing out if you havent

- PLOT: 100/5 yes i love this so much basically this is a story that i didnt even know i needed

- ART STYLE = perfect for my taste so 100/5

- loveable characters like the MC (my bb athy deserves the world ok)

- developed/complex characters whose motivations and goals are seens

- CLAUDE IS THE DADDIEST AMONG THE DADDIES I SAID WHAT I SAID

- CLAUDE AND ATHY (their father-daughter moments are all precious they are the b e s t)

- CLAUDE AND DIANA (i love that diana’s love for athy knows no bounds *cries in filipino* and that claude loves her too much they r pure golden couple)

Summary:

Calliope has suffered through nature's law and many accidents. Her family was murdered and an ongoing war ended her life, but she traveled back in time to when she was born?! While Calliope slowly grows, will she be able to figure out who killed her family and stop them in time?

WHY YOU SHOULD READ:

- lippe basically returned to when she was a child to found out who killed her fam

- plot = 3/5 (it was interesting in the beginning but it’s dragging slowly for now so)

- art style - 4/5

- warning: the ml is not the brother’s bestfriend ok

- ml is a cunning, handsome man who like appeared or was mentioned at the 30 or 40-ish chapters

- her brothers are hot

- the whole fam adores my bb lippe

- the whole world a d o r e s my baby

- manipulative mc who uses her charm against her enemies? count me in

- almost all the characters (except for the bad ones) are pleasing to the eyes

- the manhwa is light read so far with all of them adoring the queen lippie

- F A M I L Y M O M E N T S ARE GOLD

- the whole fam dynamic is wonderful although i really thought that jeremy (blond hair) is ml but thank goodness (and poor my otp) he’s not

- the crown prince is quite the looker too

- basically shuli just wants to protect her precious little monsters so dont hurt them or she’ll kill you

- her little monsters are her best warriors too so dont try them

- BASICALLY JUST DONT TOUCH THEM OR I’LL SCREAM

Summary:

Hyejung loved to read to escape her daily stress. But that's before she woke up inside the bizarre world of her favorite novel! Instead of the main heroine who courts three eligible men, she is now Latte Ectrie - a minor villain that everyone hates?! One way or another, it's a chance to live out her most beloved storyline, with popcorn in hand to watch all the drama! Taking charge of the narrative takes on a whole new meaning!

WHY YOU SHOULD READ:

- the best comedy/romance manhwa i’ve read so far

- plot is ok

- art style = tbh, i didn’t read it at first bcuz of the art style but i guess it grew on me

- their facial expressions are daebak

- ARWIN IS MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN THE OTHER CHARACTERS SOMETIMES TBH

- no one’s funnier than latte

- light read so if you’re stressed about lyf and just want to laugh and be happy then read this

- arwin is beauty, arwin is grace, he will kill you with a smile on his face

The Flower That Was Bloomed by the Cloud

Summary:

Hong Lyon, a pitiful young princess with only a title, but no power nor authority, meets a young boy named Dowun who offers to help her become a true royal princess… but at what cost?

The League’s Christmas special is a tribute to the great Amicus portmanteau Horror movies, with special guest stars – and a Maharajah’s curse...

A Shivers interview by James Abery

The room is small, barely accommodating the huge, ornate bedstead. A phantasmagoria of dolls and puppets leer from the shadows. A Chinese marionette lolls in a chair, white elephants frolic over a toy theatre. It is a playroom for a maniac.

This bizarre room is just one of the many locations created for the League of Gentlemen’s forthcoming Christmas Special. So small is the set, created in a genuine 18th century house in London, that there is barely room for the lights and cameras and the League themselves, all of whom are now dressed in appropriate 1890s costumes.

“Look at it!” exclaims Mark Gatiss, surveying the incredible room in his splendid Victorian dressing gown. “It’s fantastic. I want to live here!”

Fantastic year

It has been a fantastic year for The League of Gentlemen – the comedy foursome comprising actor/writers Mark Gatiss, Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton and writer Jeremy Dyson. But the Christmas Special is something of a departure for them, since their shows have previously been set in the present. When Shivers visited the London location at the beginning of September, hopes were high among the cast for their new venture.

“We’ve based the Christmas Special on the old Amicus films Asylum, The House that Dripped Blood, Torture Garden, you know the sort of thing,” explains Steve Pemberton. He is standing in the street, decked out in a Victorian frock coat, with fierce side-whiskers and black contact-lenses. He cuts a terrifying figure. “We’re also trying to catch something of the Ghost Stories for Christmas which the BBC used to do but which they stopped some years ago.”

So will there be new characters in the special? Steve continues: “We’ve taken the less-established characters from the series, the ones that we think could do with having their back-story told. So we’ve not gone for Tubbs or Pauline. The Christmas Special centres on Bernice’s Church on Christmas Eve. She gets three visitors, each of whom tell her their story of woe and are then dismissed by her, but she has her own story as well. The three stories involve Herr Lipp, Mr Chinnery and Charley and Stella...”

Mark Gatiss is a fan of the Victorian era and his delight in creating Nineteenth century Royston Vasey is apparent.

“The locations for this are a joy. We’re using actual props from Sleepy Hollow, which puts you in the mood. This segment ties in with the Local Book, it’s a story called The Curse of Karritt Poor.

“In an earlier scene we were in a Victorian operating theatre, one of the old ones like an auditorium. I completed an operation, and the students watching applauded. I insisted that they bang their fists on the desks in the required manner.”

There is a special guest for the Christmas special, who is a familiar name to any fan of great British Horror films – Freddie Jones.

“It really was marvellous to get Freddie involved. It’s a direct link to exactly the sort of film we’re trying to recreate. We were standing about on location and Freddie was talking about Freddie Francis and David Lynch filming The Elephant Man.” So what about the third series of The League of Gentlemen? “There won’t be a third series,” says Mark mercurially. “But there will be a fourth...”

Samuel L. Jackson Will Play George Clinton In Neil Bogart Biopic

Samuel L. Jackson will play George Clinton in a film about late Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart according to Deadline. Casablanca Records was one of the most successful record labels of the 1970s and it is mostly associated with disco even though there was more than disco artists on the label. Timothy Scott Bogart will direct Spinning Gold about his father’s success in the music industry releasing music from some of the biggest names at the time including Donna Summer, KISS, Cher, Village People, Lipps Inc. and Clinton’s Parliament. Neil Bogart would also start subsidiary labels Chocolate City and Parachute Records that hosted funk band Cameo, Brenda & The Tabulations and R&B singer Randy Brown.

Production is scheduled to start July 16th in Montreal and a number of roles have already been cast. Kenan Thompson will be Berry Gordy, Jasmine Sullivan will play Gladys Knight, Jason Derulo is Ron Isley, Jay Pharoah will be WBLS DJ Frankie Crocker, D.L. Hughley will play Bootsy Collins and Broadway actor Jeremy Jordan will play Bogart. There are plans for a young singer to take on the role of Donna Summer.

The soundtrack will have songs from The Isley Brothers, Curtis Mayfield, Donna Summer, Edwin Hawkins, Village People, Parliament, Gladys Knight, KISS and Bill Withers and more.

Timothy Scott Bogart's Boardwalk Entertainment and Jessica Martin's Hero Entertainment are financing Spinning Gold and will shop it to the studios.

Casablanca Records was purchased by Polygram in 1980 and later by Seagrams. It was shut down in the ’80s and relaunched in 2000. The current Casablanca operates under Republic Records as a dance and electronic music label. Neil Bogart died in 1982 of cancer at the age of 39.

Disney: 3 Leaders, 1 Vision- Dreams can come true...

Animation, innovation, creativity, landmark movies, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, film-making, theme park, entertainment, happiness, dreams, achievement, global brand- these are just some of the words that come to mind when anyone in the world hears the name “Disney”. Walt Disney was an inventor, a creator, an organizer, an entrepreneur, and most of all he was a dreamer. He had a vision of an idea that he wanted to bring to life… and he succeeded. Together, brothers Walt and Roy Disney not only brought this dream to life, but also to global recognition.

Since its inception in 1923, the Walt Disney Company (“Disney”) has evolved from an animation company into a multinational corporation that provides many forms of entertainment to people worldwide. The Disney brand has now expanded to include theme parks, water parks, a television channel, and much more. Disney’s objective is to be “one of the world’s leading producers and providers of entertainment and information, using its portfolio of brands to differentiate its content, services, and consumer products (Carillo, Crumley, Thieringer, & Harrison 2). With the many forms of entertainment that Disney has to offer, it is no surprise that the company is now worth around $128.8 billion (Carillo, Crumley, Thieringer, & Harrison 2). Throughout its history, Disney has had several different leaders that have played a major role in its success, including Walt Disney, Michael Eisner, and Bob Iger.

Walt Disney founded the company on innovation, support, education, and entertainment, and these principles still guide the company’s actions to this day. (Lipp 1). Leaders such as Michael Eisner and Bob Iger have carried on the traditions set forth by Walt. For example, Disney’s leaders must be innovative and willing to take risks. Leaders must also provide enthusiastic support for employee development. This push for organizational support comes from the belief that upper-level management backing employee development sets a tone at the top that carries throughout the rest of the organization. In addition, everyone in the organization must be willing to participate in continuous education and have the desire to improve themselves. Lastly, Walt Disney stressed that employee development should be entertaining as well as educational in order to increase employee engagement and retention. These values have created an organizational culture that has allowed Disney to remain “The Happiest Place on Earth” for years on end.
