"I feel like the show has lost its "grit" since about season 14. There was so much grit in the first 14 seasons; hard truths about ranching, rodeo, people engaged in serious illegal stuff. And a lot of really strong character moments, and well-written dialogue. Amy's grief over Ty was amazingly done. But these past seasons & especially season 17 feels it has lost true emotional depth, proper "grit", and also writing that understands & respects its characters. Have the showrunners gotten old & forgotten how young people talk? Have they forgotten that the best emotional moments are not necessarily overly demonstrative & with very pointed, forced dialogue? Having rewatched from season 1, I feel extremely coddled by S17 and honestly feel like quitting given the nosedive in writing quality. Which is really sad because Heartland had been going amazingly strong all these years. I feel like the only way to save the show now would be to stop the current story, and start fresh with aged up Lyndy and maybe grandma!Amy, and just tell a totally new story with new characters."

I used to hate stories that could have been fixed if two characters took five minutes to talk to each other clearly, but then i realized how funny is it.”

Tagged for heads up seven up by @fortunatetragedy!
(Approximately) 7 lines from a scene I've been working on today where Rearden and his wife Jessica tell their friends Dorothy Hoyle + Frank Borden about a high-profile assassination they've just pulled off:
“Thank you,” said Jessica. “What have they said about it [the assassination]?” “A long notice in the News-Letter.” “A long notice,” Borden echoed. “Damn near a full column. But it is all idle speculation—they blame the United Irish assassination committee,* they blame the Defenders, the loyalists, the Whigs, the radicals, and so on and so forth.” Dorothy added another spoonful of honey to her tea. The Reardens kept no sugar, in protest of the slave trade. “They would be blaming Lord Donegall** himself were they not frightened he would shut them down.”
* a real thing which actually existed under that name, believe it or not. much that I've read on it credits belfast tailor joseph cuthbert with leading it, but it's also thought that people such as henry joy mccracken himself were involved.
** arthur chichester, 1st marquess of donegall, the most powerful aristocrat in northern ireland at the time + one of the most powerful in ireland in general. he exercised a great deal of control over belfast's politics (he would choose their mps, for instance. me when I'm in a corruption contest and my opponent is an 18thc irish aristocrat: ) + over east ulster in general but was traditionally absentee and less directly involved than, like, lord londonderry.
Tagging uhhh @orphanheirs @chiropteracupola @isherwoodj @breitzbachbea + anyone else who wants to take part :)

Grab a pumpkin spice latte and your coziest sweater, because Great American Family is bringing all the fall goodness to a TV near you!
PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that the family-oriented network's second annual "Great American Autumn" event is back as of Sept. 2 with seven new original movie premieres debuting through mid-October.
The beloved stars in this year's roster including 90210 alums Trevor Donovan and Jessica Lowndes. The two costars — who briefly played love interests on The CW hit — will be reuniting for A Harvest Homecoming later this month.
Jodie Sweetin, Danica McKellar, Camilla Belle and Dancing with the Stars pro Gleb Savchenko are also among the stars joining in on the fall fun.
See the full schedule — along with the network's descriptions — below.
Saturday, Sept. 2: Learning to Love, starring Ina Barrón and Philip Boyd — Harry (Boyd) and his two daughters lose faith after his wife and daughters' mom dies. The family then hires a nanny and is pleasantly surprised by Steph (Barrón), who brings never-ending warmth, positivity and faith into the home.
Saturday, Sept. 9: Love Can Surprise You, starring Camilla Belle and David Lafontaine — Carina (Belle) writes a popular love and romance relationship column and is known as an expert in her field. When her boyfriend breaks up with her on the night she thought he'd propose, Carina begins questioning if she actually knows anything about love. Enter new writing partner Liam Snyder (Lafontaine), who ends up helping Carina rewrite her love story.
Saturday, Sept. 16: Craft Me A Romance, starring Jodie Sweetin and Brent Bailey — Nicole Borden (Sweetin), the owner of a quaint arts and crafts store called The Crafty Companion, is faced with an ultimatum when the owner of Mitchell’s Art and Craft Supplies (Bailey) tells her she must either sell her store or be forced out of business.

Saturday, Sept. 23: Haven't Met Yet, starring Merritt Patterson and Joshua Sasse — Lucy Marks (Patterson) is a professional matchmaker. When Lucy meets a handsome businessman (Sasse), she feels the spark of love for the first time, only to have her hopes dashed when she learns the man is her next client.

Saturday, Sept. 30: A Harvest Homecoming, starring Jessica Lowndes and Trevor Donovan — teacher Drew Granger (Donovan) accepts a temporary substitute job in his old hometown of Chestnut Hollow, Texas, where he meets Aiden, the proverbial new kid at school, desperate for a caring friend. While he would rather have taken a job anywhere else, Drew reconsiders Chestnut Hollow when he meets Lainie Abbott (Lowndes), the new manager of his parents' massive apple orchard and cider mill business, and more importantly, Aiden's mom.
Saturday, Oct. 7: Swing Into Romance, starring Danica McKellar, David Hayden-Jones and Gleb Savchenko — When former dancer Christine Sims (McKellar) temporarily returns to her hometown in time for the town's fall festival, she discovers her family's general store is in trouble. In her efforts to save the business, Christine will need to dust off those dancing shoes one more time, face her ex-fiancė and maybe find love in the process (Hayden-Jones).
Saturday, Oct. 14: Mystery By the Book, starring Alicia Dea Josipovic and Corey Sevier — A bookstore owner (Sevier) is in a difficult relationship with a book cover model (Josipovic) until an antique key found in a false book unlocks their romance.

Last song; Surface Pressure By Jessica Darrow-Encanto Soundtrack because for some reason this particular song has moved into my brain...
Currently watching; Whatever is holding my attention right now. Watching a lot of youtube, or more listening to audiobooks.
Currently reading; It VARIES a lot for me. I'm listening to an audiobook called One August Morning about Lizzie Borden(yes HER) because unsolved mysteries fascinate me, and I wanted to hear something detailing the story instead of scouring Wikipedia and the internet for possible(probable) fake or discredited info.
Also various Encanto fanfictions. If anyone has something to share feel free
Current obsession; Encanto, because the movie is flawed but the message is intriguing. Can be summed up as I want to know more, but I'm left hanging way too much. Develop your characters more!
Tagging; Err, not sure who to tag uhhh... @mistmarauder @depressedstressedlemonzest Cant' think of anyone else I'm shy and I was tagged by one of the peeps I'd go for...

We Finally Do Soap
Content warning: In discussing plotlines on Soap, we do bring up suicide and, very briefly, sexual assault.
"Episode 4.1" (November 12, 1980) *
Finally! It's one of the biggest cult favorite sitcoms of all time *and* it's also a show famous for having a LGBT character in the main cast. The only reason it's taken us this many years to tackle Soap is that it's so much more serialized than mostly anything else we cover, so while we focus on one particular episode, we're also discussing the entirety of Billy Crystal's gay character, Jodie Dallas. Good thing we have longtime Soap fan and TableCakes' Katherine Helmond correspondent Gwynedd Stuart on hand to discuss the show in general and the awesomeness of Jessica Tate in particular.
Check out our sponsor, Spaces! And join our spaces for Gayest Episode Ever and Cartoons That Made Us Gay.
Also check out Gwynedd's work on Sporked.
Listen to Gwynedd’s episode of Monday Afternoon Movie about The Legend of Lizzie Borden.
See the full text of "the Soap memo." And then read the full piece on Newspapers.com (subscription required).

Heartland Cast Characters Heights and Ages
Heartland is a beloved show, with a robust cast of characters across its many seasons. When it comes to the actors, some are close in age to their characters, but others are farther than you may expect! Read on to learn about the heights and ages of some of your favourite Heartland characters.
Amber Marshall as Amy Fleming
Amber Marshall is the actress who plays Amy Fleming, one of the main characters of the Heartland series. Amy Fleming and Ty Borden were the main couple of the show, and she grows up throughout the seasons. She is a Canadian and was born on June 2nd, 1988, making her 35 years old. Amber is 5 years older than her character, but she has a youthful look that makes the age difference no problem! She is also 5 foot 5 inches tall.
Graham Wordle as Ty Borden
Graham Wordle is the actor who portrayed the character of Ty Borden, up until the death of the character in the later seasons. He was Amy’s love interest, and became her husband and the father of her children on the show. The actor was born in British Columbia on September 6th, 1986. He is currently 36 years old. He is also 5 foot 11 inches tall. It was his decision to leave Heartland to pursue other projects in 2019 that led to the death of Ty Borden.
Michelle Morgan as Lou Fleming
Michelle Morgan is another one of the core cast members on the Heartland tv set. She plays Lou Fleming, who is the sister of Amy Fleming. Like Amy, she grew up on screen over the many seasons of Heartland. Michelle was born in Calgary on July 16th, 1981, making her 42 years old. She is also 5 foot 8 inches tall. When she began playing Lou at the beginning of the show, Michelle was 26 and her character was 23, meaning that there is not much of an age difference between the two of them!
Shaun Johnston as Jack Bartlett
Shaun Johnston is another Canadian actor who is a staple of the Heartland set. He plays Shaun Johnston, the sixth generation owner of the Heartland Ranch, where much of the show takes place, as well as running a cattle business called Heartland Beef. He’s also Amy and Lou’s grandfather! Shaun Johnston was born in Alberta on September 9th, 1958. He is 64, and is almost 20 years younger than the character he plays. He is also 6 foot 1 inch tall, and that means he is one of the tallest cast members of the show!
Chris Potter as Tim Fleming
Chris Potter is the actor who plays Tim Fleming. He’s Amy and Lou’s father, and the ex husband of their late mother Marion, who dies in the first season. He starts to try and reconnect and reach back ou to the girls after their mother’s accident and passing. The actor was born in Toronto, Ontario, on August 23rd, 1960. This makes Chris Fleming 62 years old. He’s 6 feet tall, making him another of the taller actors on the show— right behind Shaun Johnston!
Gabriel Hogan as Peter Morris
Gabriel Hogan is another of the Heartland actors. He is the one who plays Peter Morris. Peter is Lou Flmeing’s ex husband, as well as the father of the characters Katie and Georgie. Peter and Lou were married in earlier seasons, but ended up separating in season 8. They do get back together and get a happy ending in season 15! The actor was born in Toronto on May 17th, 1973, making him currently 50 years old. He is also the tallest actor on set, clocking in at 6 feet 4 inches tall!
Jessica Amlee as Mallory Wells
Jessica Amlee is a Canadian actress who plays Mallory Wells on Heartland. Mallory is a character who grew up on the show, as Jessica Amlee was only 12 when she first appeared on the screen! Mallory is a friend of the Flemings who spends a lot of time at the ranch. Now, the actress is 29 years old and was born in British Columbia. She is 5 foot 2 inches tall.
Alisha Newton as Georgie Fleming Morris
Alisha Newton plays Georgie Fleming Morris, a character who was adopted by Lou and Peter and goes on to have significant storylines as she grows up. The actress was born on July 2nd, 2001, in Vancouver. She is now 22 years old— the same age as her character! Alisha Newton is 5 feet 4 inches tall.
Kerry James as Caleb Odell
Kerry James plays Caleb Odell on the Heartland show. This character started out as a ranch hand and then got fired— from there, he went into rodeo and also runs the rodeo school with Tim. Kerry James, the actor, is a Canadian who was born in Mission, British Columbia. His birthday is August 2nd, 1986, making him 36— the same age as his character. He is also about 6 feet tall.
Jessica Steen as Lisa Stillman
Jessica Steen is an actress who was born in Toronto. She plays Lisa Stillman, who is the chic owner of a Thoroughbred breeding business known as Fairfield Stables. She gets to travel the world for her job and to see her horses race. She is also married to Jack Bartlett. The actress was born on December 19th, 1965, making her currently 57 years old. She is also 5 foot 4 inches tall.
Kevin McGarry as Mitch Cutty
Last, but not least, we have Kevin McGarry rounding out the cast! He plays Mitch Cutty on Heartland. Mitch was a ranch hand hired by Jack, who then became Lou’s love interest and got engaged to her— before she called it off and realized she was still in love with her ex husband, Peter. The actor was born on March 19th, 1985, in Ontario, making him 38 years old. He is also 6 feet 2 inches tall, making him one of the taller actors on set!

"I love heartland It's been a great show, I just wished they stick to the storyline. For fans that watch, we keep up. Example, one minute there's a pic of their late mom and it doesn't look like the actress who played her. Then one minute Lou couldn't waitress and got fired and the next she owns it and knows what customers want. Then there's Lisa who is rich but is in jeopardy of losing her horse breeding ranch. There's many tiny loopholes, like Ty's mother, she raised him but didn't? The inconsistency of Ashley's character is funny, one minute she's Amy's arch enemy ("Ashley just drives me insane" ) the next their lifelong friends. I just wish they'd keep up with the storyline. Like Val was a villain in the beginning but she's Jack's friend? Bailing out Caleb for the Bartlett family sake. I sorta can't believe no one else has pointed this out. I do love the show though, and Amber Marshall has made it become the hit it is! She absolutely gorgeous with the horses. I think the worst is the Ty episodes, anybody ever think boy this boy, fell off a cliff, had a motorcycle wreck, had a plane wreck, etc and the boy is still alive but partly klutz?? I just know the stories could have been a bit better. Heck I could have written some things in there for a laugh here and there! And Tim please stay with one woman if you're worried about your girls and the dynamics of your relationship with them! Remember the Callie thingy?? Then it's full force to Janice, Casey, Miranda, Jessica like wow!! Womanizers ok??
Jack is great grandpa though!"

I saw a comic where Charlie neglected Jessica’s help, what happened after the events of that comic?
Oh yeah the old one I was going to try and redraw it maybe ? It was honestly all about Charlie hating being a borden on people to the point she thinks she can do everything by herself even tho she can make herself worst instead
To be fair after it I could imagine she just kinda given up and allowed her to help yet just had the though on the back of her mind that she’s just pathetic like this
