My Review
What a way to wrap up a series! I've fallen in love with several Melanie Moreland couples, and while I still love them all dearly, Nicholas and Mila have a special place in my heart. Not only is their story the final for the Vested Interest: ABC Corp, which makes it bittersweet, but this couple brings all the feels - and they do it without the big 3rd act breakup. They still have their share of things to work through and overcome, and I love how well Melanie Moreland handled the mental health stuff. I say stuff because I don't want to spoil the story, but the seriousness of the topic is handled with complete respect, as well as accuracy.
I love how totally sweet this couple is, and they have such good chemistry right from the start. Plus, this is a next-generation series, so we get some catch-up time with several past favorites. The story does have its share of seriousness, but true to Melanie Moreland form, we also get some wonderfully well-timed wit and humor, which is always welcome as far as I'm concerned. The whole thing is well-written, and this is a couple I won't soon forget.
This is part of a series, but it can be read as a standalone. Fair warning though,: once you've met these characters, including the secondary ones, you'll be hooked. Found family is one of my favorite tropes, and the BAM world is one big found family.
Reading Nicholas and Mila's journey was all kinds of emotional, and to be honest, I wasn't sure the audio would have the same impact - I love Maxine Mitchell and John Lane, and they are both terrific narrators. That said, I had the voices of these characters in my head, as well as the tone and even the feeling behind the words, and I just wasn't sure it would all come through in the audio. There are a serious amount of feels in this one. I should have known better than to doubt these narrators because they pulled out all the stops. Every bit of emotion, good and bad, comes through loud and clear. Lane and Mitchell took these characters and became them, and I was just as immersed in the audiobook as I was when I read it. So, yes, Nicholas and Mila still hold a special place in my heart, and I'll be revisiting both editions of their story.

The industrialist was horrified to find the fisherman lying beside his boat, smoking a pipe. "Why aren't you fishing ?" asked thh industrialist. "Because I've caught enough fish for the day." "Why don't you catch some more ?" "What would I do with them ?" "Earn more money. Then you could have a motor fixed to your boat and go into deeper waters and catch more fish. That would bring you more money to buy nylon nets, so more fish, more money. Soon you would have enough to buy two boats, even a fleet of boats, then you could be rich like me." "What would I do then ?" "Then you could sit back and enjoy life." "What do you think I'm doing now ?" . . . . . . #TimelessSimplicity #JohnLane https://www.instagram.com/p/B0aRGRuH50I/?igshid=2p312rqd5z8x

John Lane and Art Centres.
(Southbank centre)
Lane wrote an article about how ART CENTRES SHOULD PLAY MORE OF A ROLE IN COMMUNITIES
Lane argues that arts practice in education/community allows us MORE access to our already diverse world, via mediums. Art 'helps expose our culture' and it also raises the communities' concerns about society.
Lane describes art as "therapy"

I do not like kidnapper "romances." I've tried reading a few, and while I love dark romance, I don't think Stockholm syndrome is love. There, I said it, and I know it's not really a popular view in romance books, but it is what it is.
What I do like is pretty much anything I've read by Melanie Moreland, and I figure if anyone can win me over with a kidnapper romance, it will be her. So, I started reading - and I didn't stop until I absolutely could not hold my eyes open any longer. I absolutely love this kidnapper romance. It's definitely not what I would consider anything close to Stockholm syndrome, but I'll just tell you that even if it were, Dante is so darn lovable, I don't think I would've minded.
The story is all about the insta-lust, but honestly, I can remember being pretty attracted to my man when we first met, so insta-lust away, Dante and Brianna, because I couldn't get enough of this couple. Then, there are the cakes! I was ready to hit the local bakery and just bring everything home. (I'm not much of a baker, but I can order up a storm at the bakery counter.)
To sum it up, My Favorite Kidnapper is funny, it's sweet, and it's sexy. That's a hard-to-beat combination, in my opinion.
Turns out, reading this one wasn't nearly enough of this couple, so I listened. The audiobook was everything I hoped for, and when I reread the book (because I definitely will), Maxine Mitchell and John Lane will be the voices in my head. I've listened to and enjoyed both narrators several times, and they pull out all the stops on this one. Dante's arrogance, Brianna's insecurity, the mutual attraction that becomes so much more... all of it comes through in the performances of John Lane and Maxine Mitchell. Melanie Moreland couldn't have placed My Favorite Kidnapper in better hands. So, read it, listen to it, or follow my suggestion and do both! You won't regret it.

I've already read or listened to a fair number of Christmas romances this year, and we're not even to Thanksgiving yet. That said, I think I've found the top of the list in Single and Ready to Jingle. This book was an absolute joy from the very first line to the very last. Opposites attract is one of my favorite romance tropes, and when you add in that one side of that is a sexy grump, I'm all over it. The sexy British accent doesn't hurt, either! Andrew and Kenzie are a terrific combination of feels, fun, steamy, and swoony. And if it wasn't already a totally engaging holiday romance, Piper Rayne takes it up another notch with duet narration. If you've never had the pleasure of duet narration, you don't know what you're missing, especially when they give a performance like John Lane and CJ Bloom. I've listened to both narrators before, so I already expected good things. They certainly delivered. So, if you're looking for a great Christmas listen, this is one to check out. It made for an enjoyable evening curled up in my favorite chair, drink of choice in hand.

First, let me just say that this one would've been much shorter and had a much different conclusion if I were Sam. I would've leaned more toward running over this cowboy with his own dang truck after the first meeting they had, which wouldn't have gone well for getting romantic. Ha! But I'm not Sam, and obviously, there's a very good reason I'm on this side of the book, and Melanie Moreland is on the other. She definitely knows her stuff when it comes to romance and never fails to wow me with her words.
I do love me some cowboy, and it didn't take much more than a hot minute for me to fall in love with the grumpy Luke Adler, and every time Sam peeled back another layer, I fell a little more. Luke needed Sam's brand of happy in the worst way, and it's all too easy to root for these two. She's also from Moreland's Vested Interest generation, and I enjoyed the little sneaks at some favorite characters from past books.
So, if you're looking for some swoon and some Kindle-melting heat, Sunshine & Sammy is a good bet. Luke says some of the swooniest things even when he does want to be all grumpy and contrary, and he and Sam have terrific chemistry. We do get some angst, but the author tempers those feels with her often hilarious wit and some equally hilarious situations.
Now, combine all of that swoon with the narration of Maxine Mitchell and John Lane. I loved Sammy and Luke when I read them, and Mitchell and Lane give such a great performance. From all the toe-curling, swoony things Luke says to the crazy situations Sammy finds herself in to the steam this pair generates, it all comes through, feels and all, in the narration. So, another terrific combination between Melanie Moreland's words and Maxine Mitchell and John Lane giving voice to the characters.

Yep! Melanie Moreland saved the best for last. Don't get me wrong, I've loved every couple in The Men of Hidden Justice series, but Egan Vulpe... Wow. Yeah, wow just about covers it. Egan and Sophia are a case of when you know, you know, especially for Egan. And he is relentless in his pursuit of Sophia. The only question I have is how she held out as long as she did. I understood her reasons, but Egan is totally swoon-worthy, from the things he says to how he prioritizes her happiness. Of course, it wouldn't be a Hidden Justice book without some danger and intrigue, and it's everything I expect from Melanie Moreland. This is the final book in the series, and we get a little catch-up with the rest of the found family that makes up The Men of Hidden Justice. This has been a terrific series of the kind of love we all wish for mixed with heart-pounding suspense. It's a series of characters I'll be coming back to visit time and time again.I had the pleasure of reading and listening to The Specialist, and once again, John Lane and Maxine Mitchell deliver excellent performances. They've voiced all five books in the series, and I can't imagine these characters being left to anyone else. What it comes down to is this: The Men of Hidden Justice series is a must read/must listen series from start to finish. Whatever your medium of choice, you can't go wrong with these guys and the women they fall for.
