On Shooting, Scanning & Editing a Recent Portrait Session
On Shooting, Scanning & Editing a Recent Portrait Session
by Johnny Martyr
Photography is all about combining the right light, lens, film and developer to convey the emotions that you want to evoke.
One of my recent favorite combinations is a bright scene with my 1979 Leitz 50mm “Tiger Paw” Summicron, Kodak Tri-X at box speed and HC110b.
It’s sort of an over generalized claim and is even perhaps a bit cliché but I just really enjoy most of my Leitz…

Purple Martin nests, HolgaWeek 2021.
Holga 120N + Ilford Pan F Plus + D76
@holgaweek is nearing and this year I'm gonna try something a little different.
First off, I'll be developing my shots using Legacy Pro L110, a cheaper yet functional equivalent to Kodak's HC110. First time using it. Should be interesting. I'll get out this week to shoot a roll of HP5 Plus 400 using my trusty old Holga Mods 120N and do a test dev before Holga Week starts. 1/31 solution seems to be the standard.
I have a bag of D76 for back-up, in case things go awry.
During HolgaWeek I'm going to shoot with two stock 120Ns, one loaded with FP4 the other with HP5. That'll cover bright light/low light situations. With any kind of luck I'll probably shoot two rolls of each.
The different part about this is the Holgas are attached to each other via the tripod mount, secured with a little bit of hook'n'loop.
This year's HolgaWeek selfie should be interesting.

Acomiadant el fill / Saying good-bye to the son; Amb el gran cotxe / With his large car; Un Oscar Dalmau a Ohio? by SBA73
Via Flickr:
===================================================
Nobody, even less the author, had seen these pictures until now. Until I've developed them in the dark room.
They call "found film" at those images in film or plates that are find undeveloped inside old cameras or in other places, like boxes or old houses.
The scene seems to show an older couple saying good-bye to their son who is going to... the college? some distant workplace? Who knows...
Any idea of the model of the car?
This 620 roll was part of a pack I bought from a seller in Botkins, Ohio. It was only marked as "Panchromatic Film" and "Made in Belgium", wich makes me think it was a Gevaert or Agfa-Gevaert emulsion. These pictures were probably taken in the US (Ohio?) in the 70's. In the outside paper somebody had noted that the camera used was a Kodak Duaflex II, an amateur pseudo-TLR.
This roll was developed in HC110 at 20ºC for 5 minutes.

What could go wrong? The one where I kick-off an occasional series of posts featuring expired or otherwise challenged film #believeinfilm
First in an occasional series where I post the results of expired or otherwise “challenged” rolls of film. Be warned, not all will be successes but, spoiler alert, I’m kicking things off with a recent success.

Červený filtr, HP5 a nahá modelka

“Blue Heron.”
©2008 Gary L. Quay
From the Vaults.
The Blue Heron paper plant in Oregon City. This was an image from my latest exhibit called "The Night Shift." It's the first image I took with my Kodak Commercial 8x10 camera. This is a scan from the proof sheet, not from the final print that hung in the exhibit.
I was inspired to take this image by the industrial photography of Ansel Adams. I have always liked old things. I seek out landscapes and cityscapes that remind me of the early to mid 20th century.
Camera: Kodak Commercial 8x10
Lens: 12" Kodak Ektar
Film: Ilford HP5 developed in Kodak HC110.

Final Project Progress - Week 5
Week 5, Roll 1 Highlights
Technical Notes:
This was actually the second building inspection that I had gone to, as the first one I made the unfortunate mistake of improperly loading my film and capturing nothing. Insurance reasons prevented me from going up in the "basket" with the rest of the contractors. The second inspection was scheduled two hours earlier than the first one I'd gone to and due to that I missed some of the beautiful higher contrast sunset lighting I thought I had gotten the first time (the building is along the Hudson River).
Ultimately I may only use two photos from here for the final portfolio.
Shot using Kodak TMax400, developed normally with HC110(b).
