The restaurant is frequently visited by stars from Mariah Carey, Bill & Hillary Clinton to Taylor Swift. The natural landscape designed by Isay Weinfield and the traditional French cuisines with a contemporary spirit have placed Le Pavillon on top of the New York's cool list.

Le Pavillon des combattantes, Emma Donoghue

En 1918, la grande grippe, pas encore « espagnole », fait rage. Dublin est ravagé par la Première guerre mondiale et la pandémie mondiale. Julia est une jeune infirmière d’à peine 30 ans, et aujourd’hui, elle est seule à la tête du petit service de maternité et maladies infectieuses de l’hôpital. Débutent trois jours enfiévrés qui vont changer sa vie du tout au tout.

J’ai bien aimé ce livre, qui est un très bon roman historique sur une période que je connais moins. On est catapulté aux côtés de Julia, qui évolue dans un monde où chacun a peur de son voisin, peur d’être le prochain contaminé, où les restrictions dues à la guerre sont nombreuses, où les journées sont riches et épuisantes. Ça se passe sur une très courte période, et j’ai vraiment apprécié le fait d’avoir trois personnages féminins très forts. On a Julia, puis Bridie Sweeney, une jeune orpheline qui vient lui prêter main forte et avec qui elle va se lier très intimement, et la Dr Kathleen Lynn, une médecin qui a lutté pour l’indépendance de l’Irlande et est recherchée par les autorités pour insubordination.
