City of Rifts: Diagnostics
Chapter 1: A Doctor
His vision was fading, white sterile walls darkening into nothing. One moment, he was walking down the most deserted hallway he could find, anything to get away from his boss and her incessant need to find more dull work for him to do. Then, it was as if someone had control of a dimmer switch in his brain. Not only was everything darker with each passing second, but the gentle hum of hospital lights faded away with the lights themselves.
Of course, he knew this was merely a psychotic break. Supposed he was past due. He wondered idly if his team would find him passed out on the floor, if they would forcibly admit him to a hospital bed and run tests. Oh god, what tests would they run? Probably the wrong ones. They always went for the most obvious, the most dull.
Odd, though. His senses were fully gone, but his mind hadn't shut off yet. In fact, he still felt like he was upright. Had he just spontaneously gone deaf and blind? Perhaps a brain-eating amoeba, albeit a very picky eater to only go after portions of his brain. Or maybe he was dreaming. Dreaming while still feeling very much awake.
One way to test it. "Hey!" he called out. His voice didn't echo like it should have in the hall, but flowed away from him. "Hey! I need a nurse!" That always got everyone's attention.
There was no response. But it did add a layer of intrigue. He could hear his own voice clearly outside his mind. So not deaf then. But he couldn't hear anything else. He had read psychology studies of selective deafness, but never so specific to only hear oneself.
Feeling a bit stupid, he spread his arms out to balance himself, and took a step in the darkness. His foot never seemed to land, as if there was nothing solid to land on. But, he realized, the foot he had not moved also didn't feel like it touched solid ground. He carefully raised that one and tried to step forward. The same sensation of nothingness surrounded it, yet he did not fall.
Mind racing, he cautiously kept going, one slow step after another. Diagnoses sped through his head, none fitting the fever dream he found himself in. But the further he progressed, the more the black faded to a foggy grey, vague shapes and shadows forming in front of him. A slight ringing hit his eyes, then he heard... wind. A gentle wind rustling through leaves.
With one final step, he stumbled back into full consciousness. As his leg hit the ground, real solid ground, it gave out and he fell to the dirt. Instinctively, he reached into his pocket for a bottle of pills, but found it empty. Of course. He had meant to swing by the pharmacy once he had successfully evaded his boss. Seething, he cursed her and all the morons he worked with. He let himself crumple to the earth. Surely, after a short time, he would simply wake up. Whether that was in the hallway or in a room, and he really hoped for a private room, in the hospital, he couldn't say. But he assured himself that it would happen, and until it did, he wasn't going to move.
-----
The Hub had been too quiet that morning. Jack knew it, Gwen knew it, Ianto knew it. Owen refused to acknowledge it. Tosh had been babysitting the rift monitor, certain that something big was coming. It was the calm before the storm, a sensation they all knew too well. So when Tosh raised the alarm, a sigh of relief passed through the Hub.
"What have you got?" Jack asked, striding towards Tosh's station, his blue coat waving in his wake.
Gwen, Ianto, and Owen quickly crowded around, eyes drawn to the monitor. Tosh couldn't hide her grin as she typed commands, the map on-screen zooming in to a blinking red dot that appeared to be smack in the middle of a forest.
"Rift active in Llyn Celyn," she informed the group.
"Big one," Gwen agreed.
The smile on Jack's face widened. "Gwen, Owen, with me. Tosh and Ianto, keep us updated on any more rifts. Something this big is bound to have aftershocks."
Owen and Gwen rushed off to grab their coats, then followed Jack to the door.
The drive was a short one with Jack at the wheel. The air buzzed with a sort of excitement, as it always did when Torchwood received a new, albeit self-assigned, case. Even with the wild experiences and horrors they had seen over and over again, each new rift phenomenon brought a wonderful mystery. For Gwen, it brought a new chance to experience a new adventure. Owen thought of it as a distraction from the mundane, something to give his life purpose, even if only for a moment. And Jack, of course, relished at the thought of showing off; it didn't matter if it was only to his own team or if he got the bonus of an alien audience.
Which is why all three felt a fog of disappointment when, after a brisk hike into the trees, all they found was a very normal looking man lying facedown in the brush. He appeared to be breathing, but beyond the slight rising of his back with each breath remained motionless.
Gwen glanced at her coworkers, a glum frown on her face. Just a man. Possibly not even an alien man. Not even one another time period, by what they could see of his disheveled suit coat.
At the same time that Gwen located a large twig to step on, hoping to rouse the man, Jack cleared his throat loudly for the same purpose. The man on the ground sighed, but said nothing.
"You alright, mate?" Owen asked.
Gwen nodded, and added, "This is Owen. He's a doctor if you're injured."
This elicited a short huff of a laugh out of the man. "Couldn't have dreamed up anything more exciting than a doctor, could I?" he mumbled into the dirt.
Noting his accent, Jack took a step forward, forcing a grin despite the fact the man hadn't bothered to lift his head to look at them. "You know, doctors can be some of the most exciting people out there. Care for some help to your feet?"
The man grumbled a no.
"Care to explain what you're doing in the middle of Llyn Celyn?" Gwen asked in her best no-nonsense policewoman voice.
A pause stretched out in the quiet forest, accepted only by the quiet rustle of leaves. Finally, the man responded irritably, "middle of what?"
Owen rolled his eyes. "Come on, let's go. Looks like it's just some lost tourist." He turned to walk back out of the woods.
Holding up a hand to stop him, Jack studied the man on the ground. "What's your name?" he asked.
The man groaned irritably, then rolled slightly on his side and raised his head so he could look at the group before him. His face was gaunt with an unkempt stubble. His blue eyes flashed with a frustration that hid curiosity beyond. "Why does it matter?" He let his head flop back onto the ground, now staring into the brush. "House, if you must know. Dr. House." He emphasized the 'Dr.'
"Great," Owen shouted, "then you don't need me. I'll be at the car." He stormed off back the way they came.
Gwen tentatively reached her arm out to stop him, then let it drop to her side and let him go.
Jack grinned brightly. "Well, Dr. House, this is Gwen Cooper. And I'm Captain Jack Harkness."
House screwed his eyes up at Jack, sizing up his long blue military coat. "What, no title for the lady?" he scoffed.
Undeterred, Jack waved his question aside. "Gwen's so good, she doesn't need a title," he said, giving her a big smile.
She rolled her eyes, but puffed her chest out with pride, and couldn't hide a little glow of a smile.
"Where are you from, Dr. House?" Jack continued, kneeling down so as to be closer to his level.
"New Jersey," he replied plainly.
"Fun place, great clubs," Jack said, a memory making his eyes distant for a moment, "and, humor me, how did you get to Wales? Airplane, ship, or..." He trailed off, allowing House to fill in what the alternative could be.
Shrugging, House replied, "it's a medical mystery." This seemed to tickle him, as he fought back a laugh, clearing his throat as if to hide it.
The two Torchwood operatives glanced at each other, Jack's smile wavering slightly. Gwen mouthed the word 'rift,' and Jack raised an eyebrow, having thought the exact same thing.
Gwen reached down to grab the discarded cane at House's side. "Why don't you come with us out of the woods?" She offered the cane to him.
Dr. House lolled his head up lazily to her. He sighed. "Fine, if you won't leave me to dream in peace, it can't hurt."
Jack quickly stepped forward, offering a hand to help him up. It was quickly waved aside. Instead of accepting help, House brought himself to his feet on his own, favoring his right leg. He dusted himself off, then snatched the cane out of Gwen's hand.
Turning away to hide her scowl, Gwen led the way back to the Torchwood SUV.

We found an entrance.  If you stood still and quiet enough, you could hear the whispering of voices coaxing you to climb down and join them in the dark beneath the water. Or perhaps it was the wind in the trees, or perhaps it was Scott standing behind me #wales #snowdonia #northwales #outdoors #igdaily #landscape #reservoir #water #lake #industrial #entrance #hell #blackandwhite #llyncelyn (at Llyn Celyn)

The flooding of Tryweryn –
In the 1960s the town Tryweryn, in North Wales, was informed and forced upon that the residents of the town were to leave their homes as the council of Liverpool, alongside with the government, decided that it would make a good reservoir to supply the city water. Today it is known as Llyn Celyn reservoir.
The town accommodated 70 people who were forcibly removed, this happened in August 1965, the towns people went to Liverpool’s streets to protest. During the construction of the reservoir three men, Emyr Llywelyn Jones, John Albert Jones and Owain Williams, planted a bomb on the power supply for the workers which erupted and only slowed down the process, the men failing to bring it to a stop.
In recent articles, according to a labour peer, Liverpool’s council did not want the water for the city but to sell it on to other authorities to make a profit. Lord Elystan Morgan made this statement, “The water needs of the population in terms of drinking water decreased. But Liverpool was selling industrial water to 24 other authorities, making a lot of money – and it wanted to maximise that profit. That’s what Tryweryn was about.”
35 out of 36 men who represented wales in this law case all disagreed to support the idea. These figures show how powerless Wales was as a political voice.
60 years later due to the climbing temperature of the planet there has been a water drought at Llyn Celyn and in recent summer months parts of the town have been reappearing to walkers who trek around 4km reservoir.

Capel Celyn: English Village Under the Water
Capel Celyn: English Village Under the Water
Capel Celyn was a rural community to the north west of Bala in Gwynedd, north Wales, in the Afon Tryweryn valley.
The village and other parts of the valley were flooded to create a reservoir, Llyn Celyn, in order to supply Liverpool and Wirral with water for industry.
The village contained, among other things, a chapel, as the name suggests, capel being Welsh for the chapel, while Celyn is Welsh…

Tiny Rebel Games have unveiled the next episode of the comic book style puzzle game Doctor Who Infinity.
Starring the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler, The Lady of the Lake is written by Scott Handcock (who has directed and written numerous Doctor Who audio adventures for Big Finish) with artwork by Neil Edwards (Justice League) and coloured by John-Paul Bove (G.I. Joe) and Dylan Teague (Doctor Who Magazine).
A dense fog, as well as a full blown alien war have descended on a small village. Luckily the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler have just arrived on holiday.
As a piece of alien weaponry poses an existential threat to mankind, the Doctor has to team up with a local poet as they try to unravel the mysteries of why a Lady has been seen walking over the surface of Llyn-y-Van Bach Lake, and why all the animals nearby have been dying at midnight.
The story will be narrated by critically acclaimed actor Celyn Jones (Submergence) as the character Geraint. Other voice over artists include Jo Grant herself, Katy Manning as Delyth and Marilyn Le Conte as the eponymous Lady of the Lake.
The story will be the third title of Doctor Who Infinity released this year with The Dalek Invasion Of Time featuring Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, and The Orphans of the Polyoptra, featuring Jon Pertwee’s Doctor, both already announced.
Doctor Who Infinity is set to launch this August on Steam and Green Man Gaming. The game will be available on iOS and Android later this summer.
