And why I love them...

So, I have watched the 1999 version of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" probably 20 times over the years. It was one of favorite movies when I was like 15 and those movies stay with a person. Anyway my favorite couple has switched almost every decade, like clockwork. First, it was Demetrius and Helena, for the messy blush of unrequited love, something wished and hoped for and, against all odds, obtained (if somewhat unrealistically and certainly magically, but hey, that just means fairies exist, so what's so bad about that?) <3 Plus Calista Flockhart was/is absolutely hilarious in this movie (oh, spite! oh hell! 😂) and Christian Bale was one of my first crushes. Pshaw, who is this Timothée Chalamet you all speak of? I know but one (1) Theodore Laurence and his name is Christian Bale 😍 Then, it was Lysander and Hermia, for the comedy of it all and the appeal of forbidden love and the way they aggravated poor Theoden King to the point that he was going to lock fair Hermia up in a nunnery (which forever amuses me as a metaphor for death), and the angst and excitement of persevering through Puck-induced magic tricks and hot jealousy and just listen, Dominic West and Anna Friel are fantastic in this, top tier at speaking and selling all those Shakespearean lines like they're totally normal in 1800s Tuscany. Like, really good. In a way that's not just fun to watch/listen to but also has you forgetting that oh yeah, they just went for that creative choice. Let's speak Shakespeare and ride bicycles. No irony about it (well for the most part - looking at you, Kevin Kline 😂) But here I am, changing my mind again...and this time, it's Theseus and Hippolyta who are claiming my whole heart <3 <3 <3 And not just because Sophie Marceau is a forever favorite or because I've only just realized that David Strathairn might be one of the finest actors of our time (seriously, what else did I miss while I was dismissing him as "oh you know, that guy from whatever"). Watching their scenes, I'm just so into it. Mature love portrayed in such a soft and delicate way. The amount that's unspoken is off-the-charts layered gorgeousness. The tiny moments between them. The micro glances, the mutual understandings, the realization that when they're in a group scene, it's still just them <3 AND THEY DANCE AT THE END 😍 Ughhhhhhh add to the OTP list, because I'm suddenly obsessed. Give it another ten years and I'll probably be all about Titania and Nick. But that's when we'll know I've gone too far...and you all have my full permission to smack me across the face and say "ma'am, stop that" 😂😂😂

it comes in a little shorter than i'd expected—169k—with some pretty weird chapter length discrepancies, which is fine, just new. i have to go through it more thoroughly with my fixlist in mind like remembering that sam has fucking earrings come on paris but i'm done with the prose (for now? do i want a wrap-up chapter that isn't an epilogue? who knows???)

i'll go through my fixlist soon, apply everything, and then it'll be put away for a bit so i can forget about it enough that i can edit it

When the lights dim, creatures of the night melt into formless caricatures of fear. Regressing into inhuman states, they prowl the hallways, seeping through cracks under the doors and curtains, melding into one, then dispersing like fog.

Funny how they scatter upon her presence. Just like those ghostly apparitions, she comes and goes like mist atop mountaintops, never staying too long for you to sincerely miss.

And, just like the fog, pieces of her linger, as dreamlike as those encounters seem. Disheveled collars, ruffled sheets, a smear of crimson lipstick where it definitely should not be, the searing warmth left behind on the empty side of the bed… You wake up in the morning half aware of something happening the previous night. Something you are always half conscious for. Inducing insomnia into your person has never worked, no matter how long the midnight candle burns, wax wearing down like your sanity and resistance, you always find yourself lying with the covers over you the next day, curtains drawn and a sore ache in your legs. And a faint impression of an embrace long gone cold.

Is it truly worth it? To take preventive measures against those locks on the door that always come undone in the morning, against the accessories on the nightstand that you do not own, against the bare arms that curl around your body in the dead of night?

Against the woman who loves you so?

You know she loves you. You think so, because you heard her say it. Once, twice, however many times it takes for you to not be able to use ten fingers to count. Perhaps it was a hallucination borne from a midsummernight fantasy, that you heard her tell you. It was almost always whispered, in the most vulnerable of times.

You would never confess it out loud. Not to anyone.

You would never admit that you've come to anticipate these nights.

Well, anticipate is a strong word. You are no longer as opposed to it as before, would be more accurate. To say that you actively look forward to it is incorrect. What an egregious accusation.

I harbour not resentment nor benevolence towards her. The fact that she has infiltrated my being beyond intimate boundaries is scandalous, you once penned down, in a thin ink quill. Yet, she has become a part of my life that is both regular and permanent. A fixture that is as routinely as brushing one's teeth.

It could almost be considered a content lifestyle, with this addition being one that you have fully come to terms with.

Until you wake up on an unfamiliar bed, in thick linen sheets, in a room that is certainly not yours.

With her above you, arm slung around your torso, face tucked into your hair, slumbering so peacefully, so openly. You recognise those white strands from a distant dream, a telling streak of black through them. Even in sleep her grip is tight, as if afraid that you would slip out of her grasp.

You know that she will not let you go, now.

Well, anon offered me to make a conversion of stealthic’s midsummer night (because existing version has some transparencies) and I did it because I like this hair too. Also there are a couple of necklaces that wait in my to-do folder too long (hope no one converted them xD). Details under the cut!

Stealthic MidsummerNight 4to2

Technically, this is a new 4to2 conversion, because in my work I used files from ts4, so the file was named according to my naming system. But since I wanted to be able to use it with all retextures (there have been a lot of them over the years), I made it as a replacement for the old pucсamichi mesh. You can download a new mesh separately if you already have retextures, or download a mesh with recolors from my palette, which I also made In any case don't forget to delete the old mesh (name Puccamichi-Stealthic-MidsummerNight4to2AllAges-Mesh) before using my version, they are not compatible.

— for all ages, female only  honestly I don't think this hair is suitable for toddlers but since the previous conversion included this age, I had to do the same — polycount: 11.6k — textures:original texture — color palette —  binned and familied; elders come in grey (linked to black); custom greys are available for toddler-adult —  original ts4 mesh here — not animated, I didn’t managed to get the animation to work in this file, just smooth assignments
