Tumblr media
Nicholas's extended family on his mother's side
WARNINGS: J&M's Lifestyles is a fake business. A dead fish and dog. Mention of break ups. Mention of Nolan and Tamaya's questionable parenting habits.
Nicholas Ross Master List | A/N: I freaking struggled with the ages and birthdays of these little shits, so PLEASE tell me if I made a birthday, or gave a time frame, that doesn't add up.
Tumblr media
✧*̥˚Jermaine Ross*̥˚✧
Tumblr media
Date of Birth: June 17, 1955 Zodiac Sign: Gemini Ethnicity: African American Nationality: African American Occupation: Co-Owner of J&M's Lifestyles
Jermaine Ross. Father of three children, husband of Makayla Campbell, and co-owner of J&M's Lifestyles. After coming across MaKayla's journal of ideas for a business, he created her business, with her permission, and named it after them. 'J' for Jermaine and 'M' for Makayla. Though he wasn't as active in the kids lives as Makayla, he still took time off and built his schedule around his kids and their lives.
He wasn't the best parent, but he told his kids, "We're all learning this together." (we're all in this together) The kids always spoke their mind, they asked questions, and they did stupid things. Jermaine always let them do questionable things as long as it wasn't putting people in high danger. He wanted them to learn for themselves. Tamaya (Nicholas's mom) was a Daddy's Girl, spoiled but disciplined.
Jermaine used to visit Nicholas and Lillian after work. As he spoiled Tamaya, it was only natural that he spoiled her children, his grandchildren.
✧*̥˚Makayla Campbell-Ross*̥˚✧
Tumblr media
Date of Birth: December 20, 1954 Zodiac Sign: Sagittarius Ethnicity: Black-Hispanic Nationality: African American Occupation: Co-Owner of J&M's Lifestyles/Stay At Home Mom
Makayla Campbell. Mother of three kids, wife of Jermaine Ross, and co-owner of J&M's Lifestyles. Originally, Makayla wasn't operating the business. Legally, she was the co-owner, but she didn't actively participate. The company was based on her ideas and she was fine with Jermaine making her dream come true. In her mind, all of the money goes to her husband's account for him to spend it on his family. So why should she care? She doesn't.
The main reason she didn't participate is because of her children. She wanted a parent to stay with them while the other went to work, if both couldn't stay. When Zion and LaTasha told her they wanted to work in the company, she decided to step in as the co-owner.
When Nicholas was a toddler, and his parents didn't punish him for crying, he would always go to Makayla when he was sad. He'd ask his mother to call her so he could hear her voice to put him to sleep.
✧*̥˚Zion Campbell-Ross*̥˚✧
Tumblr media
Date of Birth: November 2, 1974 Zodiac Sign: Scorpio Ethnicity: Black-Hispanic Nationality: African American Occupation: Manager at J&M's Lifestyles
Zion Campbell-Ross. The oldest sibling out of Makayla and Jermaine's children. He lives in a single family home and works at his parent's shop. Occasionally, he'll visit his parents and youngest sister.
Zion was an active person in Nicholas's life, and continuously taught him basic life skills and how to treat others. Him and Lillian like to joke that his girlfriend was Lillian's lesbian awaking as it was obvious she had a child crush on the older woman when she was 6. After Lillian and Nicholas moved out of Tamaya's house, Zion stopped visiting.
Zion, Nicholas, and Lillian still keep in touch. They check in at least 8 times a month, and plan to see each other 3 or 4 times a year.
✧*̥˚LaTasha Campbell-Ross*̥˚✧
Tumblr media
Date of Birth: March 29, 1980 Zodiac Sign: Aries Ethnicity: Black-Hispanic Nationality: African American Occupation: Influencer/ Model for J&M's Lifestyles
LaTasha Campbell-Ross. The youngest of Makayla and Jermaine's children. She lives with her parents and works as an influencer and a model for her parents company. LaTasha looked up Tamaya until she married Nolan. Though she looked up to Tamaya, she followed Zion around. Latasha is also a Mama's Girl.
LaTasha has never wanted kids. The idea of giving birth scared her. She doesn't like the idea of being restricted and bound to a person's life. She liked wants to be The Aunt, and the person people could go to when they needed a break. She also just doesn't like kids.
LaTasha is the one who brought up the idea of Nicholas becoming a singer. With LaTasha is the second person Lillian came out to, and she helped her come out to the family.
Tumblr media
☼Pets☼
✧*̥˚Precious*̥˚✧
Pitbull Terrier | Female Deceased: Died when Zion was a teenager
Jermaine gave Makayla the dog for their 8th anniversary when Zion was 4. She named him precious because Zion wouldn't stop saying the word for over 2 months.
✧*̥˚Merlin*̥˚✧
Betta Fish | Male Deceased: Died from LaTasha over feeding it when she was six
Jermaine bought her the fish so she would stop begging for a pet. The fish actually lasted longer than it was supposed to, so LaTasha took good care of him until she didn't.
✧*̥˚Panther*̥˚✧
Great Dane | Male Alive: Zion's Pet, who lives with him
Zion got the Great Dane 2 years after he moved out of his parents house. He let LaTasha name him. She named him panther simply because panthers are her favorite animals and Zion is her favorite sibling.
✧*̥˚Naveen*̥˚✧
Doberman | Male Alive: LaTasha's pet, who lives with her and her parents
Nicholas gave Zion the idea to get LaTasha the Doberman to cheer her up from a bad breakup, after the younger male couldn't fly over to comfort her. Latasha named the dog after the prince from Princess and the Frog, Naveen.
Tumblr media
☼Fun Facts☼
Makayla and Jermaine got together in April 1971, they were 15
Makayla and Jermaine were 19 when they had Zion, 22 when they had Tamaya, and 25 when they had LaTasha.
The family was only allowed to meet Lillian when she turned 5 and met Nicholas when he was 3.
Makayla didn't, and still doesn't, like Nolan (Nicholas's father) but she put up with him for Tamaya.
Makayla wanted to try and get custody of the kids, Nicholas and Lillian, but couldn't because legally the kids were taken care of and were "fine"
Most of Nicholas's outfits come from J&M's Lifestyles
LaTasha was 18 when Lillian was born
From the date of this post, Makayla and Jermaine have been together for almost 53 years
LaTasha is bisexual and biromantic
Jermaine is demisexual
Zion has had 6 girlfriends, only 4 serious relationships, but is currently single
Makayla only has 1 grey hair meanwhile Jermaine has noticeable grey curls spread through out his hair.
He's still more pepper than salt, but still
Jermaine is the one who told LaTasha to keep feeding Merlin so he indirectly killed the fish

Kaiju Week in Review (October 22-28, 2023)
youtube
Another Godzilla Day, another short from Kazuhiro Nakagawa to keep the series' tokusatsu roots alive. Fest Godzilla 4: Operation Jet Jaguar will see the grinning robot battle the King of the Monsters in live-action for the first time ever. I think that's why seeing the Final Wars Godzilla opposite a replica Jet Jaguar suit is even more surreal than his bout against the Showa Gigan last year. When the short drops on November 3, be sure to download it ASAP, because Toho doesn't like to keep them up for long.
Tumblr media
I already posted about the unbelievable Movie Monster Series Bagan figure revealed last night, but it was accompanied by four more new figures: a glittery MinusGoji, an 8-inch black Kiryu, a quadrupedal Landing Stage Hedorah, and this year's fan poll winner, Flower Beast Form Biollante. The Kiryu is a homage to a theater-exclusive figure from Godzilla: Tokyo SOS, though it actually has more paint apps. They're all Godzilla Store exclusives.
Tumblr media
TOHO Visual Entertainment has released Godzilla (1954) and Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) on 4K, the first of a flurry of Godzilla titles debuting in 4K this year. (There's also a Blu-ray for each that uses the same 4K restoration.) The people I turn to for judgment on these things (@spacehunter-m, @tohocompanylimited-blog, and a few others) aren't thrilled, especially with Mothra vs. Godzilla, which compares unfavorably with the HD version of the shorter Toho Champion Festival cut. Both are improvements over what was previously available on home video, but that's not saying much.
Mothra vs. Godzilla unfortunately does not include the Frontier Missile scene as a bonus feature. (Don't know what all those nice-looking screenshots of it from the recent Mothra vs. Godzilla Completion book were about then.) It does offer eight-and-a-half minutes of unused effects footage, some of it making its home video debut, as well as four more minutes of set footage and a theater showing the film. Both films offer a ton of trailers, the most interesting of which is an export trailer for G54. Some of the ballyhoo ("incredible titan of terror!") would later be used for the U.S. release, and @biorante discovered that the subtitles are a near-exact match with the old BFI DVD. So it's possible to almost exactly recreate what the film would have looked like when it screened in, say, Honolulu in 1955.
Tumblr media
This is strictly local news, but I know some of you are fellow upstate New Yorkers, so I'm throwing it in anyway. Rochester's Little Theatre will be showing Destroy All Monsters on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This'll be the first Godzilla film I've seen there since Rialto distributed the original in 2004. The runtime and release date match the AIP version, so fingers crossed they landed the same 35mm print that screened at the Mahoning this summer.
Big week coming up, though even bigger if you live in Japan. For the Americans reading this, a reminder that Godzilla 2000 is in theaters the night of November 1.

In September 1950, US President Harry Truman sent the Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG) to Vietnam to assist the French in the First Indochina War. The President claimed they were not sent as combat troops, but to supervise the use of $10 million worth of US military equipment to support the French in their effort to fight the Viet Minh forces. By 1953, aid increased dramatically to $350 million to replace old military equipment owned by the French.[6][...]
In 1954 the commanding general of French forces in Indochina, General Henri Navarre, allowed the United States to send liaison officers to Vietnamese forces. But it was too late, because of the siege and fall of Dien Bien Phu in the spring. As stated by the Geneva Accords, France was forced to surrender the northern half of Vietnam and to withdraw from South Vietnam by April 1956.[7] At a conference in Washington, D.C., on February 12, 1955, between officials of the U.S. State Department and the French Minister of Overseas Affairs, it was agreed that all U.S. aid would be funneled directly to South Vietnam and that all major military responsibilities would be transferred from the French to the MAAG under the command of Lieutenant General John O'Daniel. MAAG Indochina was renamed the MAAG Vietnam on November 1,1955, as the United States became more deeply involved in what would come to be known as the Vietnam War.
The next few years saw the rise of a Communist insurgency in South Vietnam, and President Diem looked increasingly to US military assistance to strengthen his position, albeit with certain reservations. Attacks on US military advisors in Vietnam became more frequent. On October 22, 1957, MAAG Vietnam and USIS installations in Saigon were bombed, injuring US military advisors.[8] In the summer of 1959, Communist guerrillas staged an attack on a Vietnamese military base in Bien Hoa, killing and wounding several MAAG personnel.[8] [...] By 1961, communist guerrillas were becoming stronger and more active. This increased enemy contacts in size and intensity throughout South Vietnam. At this point, Diem was under pressure from US authorities to liberalize his regime and implement reforms. Although key elements in the US administration were resisting his requests for increased military funding and Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) troop ceilings, MAAG Vietnam played a significant role in advocating for a greater US presence in the country.[9] Throughout this period relations between the MAAG Vietnam and Diem were described as "excellent"[...]
Newly elected President John F. Kennedy agreed with MAAG Vietnam's calls for increases in ARVN troop levels and the U.S. military commitment in both equipment and men. In response, Kennedy provided $28.4 million in funding for ARVN, and overall military aid increased from $50 million per year to $144 million in 1961. In the first year of the Kennedy administration, MAAG Vietnam worked closely with administration officials, USOM, and the US Information Service to develop a counterinsurgency plan (CIP). The CIP's main initiatives included the strengthening of ARVN to combat the Communist insurgency, which had the corollary effect of strengthening Diem's political position.[9] At the same time President Diem agreed to the assignment of advisors to battalion level, significantly increasing the number of advisors; from 746 in 1961 to over 3,400 before MAAG Vietnam was placed under U.S. Military Assistance Command Vietnam (MACV) and renamed the Field Advisory Element, Vietnam. At the peak of the war in 1968, 9,430 US Army personnel, along with smaller numbers of US Navy, US Marine Corps, US Air Force and Australian Army personnel acted as advisors down to the district and battalion level to train, advise and mentor the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN), Republic of Vietnam Marine Corps, Republic of Vietnam Navy and the Republic of Vietnam Air Force.
Anyway no parallels to see here

Back to the Future/Stranger Things parallels
Yesterday I decided to rewatch Back to the Future and I am so excited to share with you the parallels I’ve noticed! There are so many of them, so I probably have to make two or three posts (post two - more characters parallels , post three - water references). I’m sure that the answers to the show are in this trilogy.
1. Hill Valley, California → Lenora Hills, California + Running Up That Hill song
Tumblr media
2. Accent on the clocks and time: too many clocks in both films + the russian code (blue meets yellow in the west) deserves special attention, I forgot to add the pictures of it though.
Tumblr media
3. Clock Tower (is VERY important for the plot - helps Marty come back to his time) & Hawkins Library (also has a clock, in s1 Vecna took his victims there and is the place where the 4 gates crossed)
Tumblr media
4. November, 5 (the day Doc first conceived his time travel invention & the day where Marty travelled to the past) → November, 6 (the day the gate opened & the day Will went missing)
Tumblr media
November, 12 (the Clock Tower was struck by lightning, which helped Marty to go back to the future/the day Will was rescued - found in the library!!!)
Tumblr media
5. Marty warning Doc about his death & Will warning Mike about his own “death”
Tumblr media
6. Doc’s dog Einstein & Will’s dog Chester kinda look similar
Tumblr media
7. The Enchantment Under the Sea & Snow Ball
Tumblr media
8. Red (plutonium) & green substance that makes time travel possible/help open the gate. Also, the green substance may represent Byler (color theory) and them having powers, related to time manipulations.
Tumblr media
9. Interesting name changes
Tumblr media
10. Marty and Mike being constantly late
Tumblr media
11. Week
Marty is excited to spend a week in 1955. Will spent a week in the Upside Down. Mike spent a week with El. "The week is long." A spring break lasts a week. Vecna success his plan.
Tumblr media
The second post will be focused on the El & Mike/Marty & his mom/Marty’s parents parallels (which, spoiler, prove that Byler is endgame) and some water theories (it’s Byler-related and, I think, I kinda cracked the code).

richard henry creel is really such a character. Such a character.
so, quick summary, in one of the newspaper articles there’s a mention of someone names richard brenner
Tumblr media
found by @aemiron-main
richard brenner is listed as the head of the Narcotic Enforcement Division from 1954-1971
richard henry creel is the son of virginia fackle creel and henry clay creel. im sure the connection is obvious
anyway, when we look into who this richard henry creel guy was, we learn that he was the assistant surgeon general of the U.S. public health service, and to become this head he’d have to have had specialized training or significant experience in public health. so, this guy was heavily involved in this stuff, though his exact service starts in 1921 but the end is never specified
under the PHS, the, “The Division of Venereal Diseases was established in 1918, and the Narcotics Division in 1929 (it eventually became the National Institute of Mental Health).”
now, richard henry creel was born in 1878 — he would’ve been in his 50’s by the time the narcotics division was actually created
1955 - “The National Microbiological Institute became the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) by order of the Surgeon General on December 29. The Biologics Control Laboratory was detached from the institute and expanded to division status within NIH.”
1957 - “The Center for Aging Research was established November 27 as the focal center for NIH extramural activities in gerontology.”
1958 - “On July 16 the Division of General Medical Sciences was established by order of the Surgeon General, extending research into noncategorical areas covered until that time by the Division of Research Grants. The Center for Aging Research was transferred from the National Heart Institute to the Division of General Medical Sciences on November 4.”
1962 - “Five acres of land for a Gerontology Research Center were donated by the City of Baltimore in December.”
1963 - “The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences were established on January 30. The Center for Research in Child Health and the Center for Research in Aging (established in 1956) were transferred from NIGMS to NICHD.”
1967 - “The National Institute of Mental Health [narcotics division] was separated from NIH and raised to bureau status in PHS by a reorganization that became effective January 1.“
1971 - “The White House Conference on Aging recommended creating a separate National Institute on Aging on December 2.”
source
now that’s a lot of words and moving and bullshit, so here’s the most important stuff to know.
richard henry creel was appointed assistant general surgeon in 1921, and 8 years later the Narcotics Division was formed. the surgeon general he was serving served from 1920 to 1936 — it isn’t much of a reach to say he was probably involved in the creation of this division
now, richard brenner was supposedly the head of the Narcotics Enforcement Division from 1954 to 1971. during that time, the narcotics division was brought up to bureau status, putting it at rank with programs like the FBI and an entire institute dedicated to researching the effects of aging were created, merging aging research with child health research
all of this stuff has roots in the PHS, and the PHS’ biggest start up was chemical research. all of this gets rooted back to chemical research
so, when we look at it, we can see that the same year the institute on aging was created, richard brenner was resigned and richard creel died. this was the year that all the main kids were born, most importantly el and will
i’d also like to point out the center of aging stuff began about two years before henry was taken by brenner. that would be when henry was 10, and i believe that that was the year henry moved to hawkins (trust in @laozuspo) and it was only a year after richard brenner had gotten involved with the narcotics division
what could this all be pointing to? well, both em and james have been feeding me stuff about henry’s regeneration abilities. more importantly, how they resemble cancer. what i didn’t include in the info from 1955 is that the first ever cancer chemotherapy center was established — the same year the Biologics Control Laboratory was given its own division. the BCL explored viral diseases and produced vaccines. the word ‘sick’ in the show has prominent value on a deeper level, as stav has explained, but if we take it more surface level…
ALL i’m saying is that a ton of this stuff lines up. i don’t have a clear answer as to what exactly it means or how we got from A to B for sure, but it seems a lot like this richard character was interested in henry’s cancer-like regeneration abilities. possibly even in an attempt to prevent the process of aging. maybe, just maybe, richard brenner, richard henry creel, and martin brenner aren’t all that different *wink wink*

Wabash 4-8-4 #2921 at Decatur, Illinois, circa 1951. Like most examples of this wheel arrangement built for other lines, the railroad employed them in fast freight assignments.  The fleet of twenty-five units (#2900-2924), listed as Class O1, was manufactured by Baldwin in 1930 and remained in service until the mid-1950s.  This particular unit operated until December, 1951 and was later sold for scrap to Luria Brothers in November, 1955.  Fred Byerly photo.

DOCTOBER '23 ⸺ 「 11 / 31 * BRIEFCASE 」
November 8, 1955
23:45
❝Ugh, Doc, it's hopeless!❞ Marty exclaims, letting his forehead hit the table with a frustrated sigh. ❝There's no getting through to him; I don't know how I'm gonna convince him to ask mom out to the dance when he's more worried about that night's episode of Science Fiction Theatre!❞
Emmett sets down the papers in his hand to focus on his young, troubled friend, and as he opens his mouth, Marty's head shoots up and he snaps his fingers, suddenly struck with an idea.
❝Doc, wait, you're into the science fiction stuff!❞ Emmett arches a brow but nods, assuming this must have been something they shared in the future for him to know; it was too on-the-nose to be just a lucky guess. ❝What do people think aliens look like in this time?❞
❝Aliens?❞ Emmett hums. ❝Well, not unlike how you and I were dressed up on that video footage of yours. Spacesuits that occasionally resemble divers' suits, flying crafts with gull-wing doors, advanced ray guns that could vaporise men in an instant!❞ He holds his finger and thumb up in the shape of a gun and makes a vaguely futuristic noise as he pretends to fire that reminds Marty of the phasers on Star Trek.
Marty's expression instantly turns devious and Emmett can see the threads of a plan quickly tying together in a knot.
❝You know, when I got here, I crashed right into this old man's barn. His son kept yelling something about aliens and he came back with a gun and tried to shoot me❞—Emmett's eyes go wide—❝talking about mutating into human form—❞
❝Wait a second, kid; you're the space zombie farmer Peabody claimed destroyed his barn?❞
Marty blinks and Emmett hops out of his seat, rummaging around the mess of papers on the living room table until he finds the one he's looking for with a triumphant aha! ❝Two days ago, they took the farmer in for observation at the Hill Valley County Asylum. He was raving to officials about flying saucers and extraterrestrials coming to take over the planet; I'm guessing he saw you in that radiation suit climbing out of the time machine?❞
Marty's fingers curl tightly into the newspaper. ❝Shit, Doc, I didn't mean to get the guy locked up! I didn't even know his place would be there, let alone that I was going for a quick trip through time!❞
Emmett shakes his head, awkwardly placing a comforting hand on the boy's shoulder. ❝He'll be fine, Marty. So long as he's not deemed a danger to himself or others, he'll likely be released within a few days. But there's no time to worry about that right now; you were saying something about a plan for your father?❞
He takes the paper back gently from Marty who doesn't fight him to hold onto it longer. Marty sighs, running a hand through his hair, and it's clear enough the boy is fighting through at least four different emotions all at the same time by the way his face changes.
❝Right, right. I think what my dad needs is a little otherworldly incentive and this'll do the trick. Something that'll really light a fire under his ass and get him to ask my mom to that dance. I'm talking close encounter of the third kind, world-ending paradox level here.❞
So Marty plans to terrify his father into asking his mother to that dance.
It's a simple plan, all things considered, and judging by what Emmett had seen of George McFly earlier, there was a chance that this was exactly the kind of thing that would strike fear into the young man's heart in a way that ensured he wouldn't weasel out of it when his nerves got the better of him.
❝You're about to ask me for a ride to your pop's place, aren't you?❞
Marty smiles sheepishly and rubs the back of his neck. ❝If that's okay? I've already got the suit and my Walkman, but, uh, Doc, you got anything that looks like a ray gun?❞
Emmett purses his lips in thought. In the lab, there was—no, that was incomplete and attached to a much larger project. What about—that would hardly make a convincing ray gun. ❝No, not offhand. If we had more time, I could build you something convincing enough to get the job done, however...❞
Marty nods. With his own mortal clock ticking down faster and faster by the second, there wasn't any time to spare; improvisation was the key to survival.
❝What about in your future belongings? On that video recording, I said something about a trip; I must have packed something if I was planning to be away for some time.❞
❝Yeah—yeah, you did! You tossed your suitcase into the DeLorean's trunk before I left!❞
Neither of them need to say anything before they're racing to the garage to look through whatever Emmett's future self had left them.
Marty leans over the opposite side of the DeLorean as Emmett sets the briefcase down on the car and pops it open. There's an abundance of clothes, Emmett notes, pulling out several articles of undergarments—all pure cotton; looks like by 1985, they still haven't found a cure for these damned allergies—several brightly coloured shirts of various patterns, and...a hairdryer?
❝What did you pack that for, Doc? Afraid they wouldn't have hairdryers in the future?❞
Emmett levels a cool look at the boy. ❝I didn't pack any of this. My future counterpart did. I can't speak to what he—I was thinking at that time.❞
❝Oh, right. Sorry.❞ Marty holds out a hand and Emmett passes the hairdryer over, watching as he turns the device over in his hands, inspecting it from every angle. ❝But this is perfect! Exactly the kind of weapon Darth Vader from Planet Vulcan would have.❞
What kind of name is that?
The hairdryer is pointed threateningly at him and Emmett plays along, throwing up his hands in the universal sign of surrender, to which Marty grins.
Putting on his best raspy extraterrestrial voice, Marty begins, ❝You have torn a rift in the space-time continuum! You must follow these instructions to the letter, otherwise I'll be forced to vaporise you with my heat ray!❞
Emmett arches a brow, figuring that the act will all come together once he's dressed up in that radiation suit of his and standing over a very sleep-addled George McFly. The late hour would only work in their favour. It was already past midnight.
❝I think we've got everything we need.❞ He lowers the 'weapon' and Emmett takes that as his cue to drop his hands back to his side. ❝If this doesn't scare him into asking her out, I don't know what will.❞
