So, everyone who follows me knows (or should know by now) that I have a deep and unwavering respect for platonic relationships.

I have never subscribed to the belief that romantic and/or sexual relationships have more value. In fact, I’ve always found that idea tiresome. It’s not usually a belief that’s outright stated though. It’s something that’s implied and then denied by those who imply it.

People will look at romantic relationships and feelings and give them different labels. Give them a hierarchy. Obviously a crush is not the same as being deeply in love with someone. Casually dating someone is not the same as a lifelong committed relationship.

Yet with platonic relationships, there’s a wall that people hit. Friends, best friends, acquaintances. People can’t conceive that you can have platonic feelings for someone that are just as strong and on par with romantic feelings for someone. That you can be just as deeply committed to and love someone just as much platonically as you can romantically. That you can have platonic relationships that are more important to you than your romantic relationships. Even longlasting and committed ones. There’s a disconnect there for most people. They say there isn’t, but there is. It’s generally only the people who are on the aromantic spectrum or have experienced such deep platonic relationships that really understand this. People on the aromantic spectrum aren’t given much of a choice, really. It’s something they have to understand to understand themselves. And those not on the spectrum who experience it literally learn through that experience.

Now, I say all of that to say this -- I posted recently about how people in fandoms talk about ships and shipping and the disregard they show platonic relationships in the process. The idea that being okay with a relationship staying platonic being actively harmful can be harmful in and of itself. Because the fact of the matter is this, when it comes to representation, yes. Platonic rep is everywhere. Friendships are everywhere. You get them all the time. What you don’t get anywhere near as often is characters who have platonic relationships that are shown to be stronger and deeper than the romantic relationships of those characters. Aro-spec people who look at Buck and Eddie and see something they have or something they want are valid. They deserve representation too, and queerplatonic relationships to the level of “I want you to raise my child in the event of my death” are not your everyday friendships. And it’s scenes like that which put their current platonic relationship with each other at a higher level than their current romantic relationships. And that means so much to an entire segment of the LGBTQ community. Disregarding it is disrespectful.

That being said and established, I do not believe they should stay canonically platonic.

Because while I think it’s extremely important not to disrespect what’s there and aro-spec members of the community in the process, they’re not going to canonically establish and acknowledge a queerplatonic relationship on this show. They’re not going to call it that or refer to it as that. I don’t expect most of the creators really even understand what that means. And because of that, it’s not going to be a chance for the audience to be exposed to and celebrate something. Aro-spec people will be able to watch and headcanon, but that’s all it would be.

Where you do have a chance at actual additional representation that’s supported by the narrative is if they solidify their relationship into something solidly romantic. The fact of the matter is this. If they weren’t two men, they’d have likely become an established canonical couple a long time ago.

They aren’t going for something groundbreaking with queerplatonic relationships here. They’ve just tied these two together irrevocably. And then they used Chris as superglue, so they can’t be untied. It’s not a question of whether or not their relationship with each other is more important to them at the moment than their relationships with their current love interests. It’s a fact. It’s a fact that could technically change over time, but it would take a long damn time to do it. And honestly, the show doesn’t have enough time left to accomplish that in my opinion. There’s no real path for either of them to reach the “Take care of my child” level with either Taylor or Ana.

So, it’s a question for the creators of whether they want to establish the relationship or not. If they want canonical bisexual representation or not. It’s not a question of what kind of LGBTQ rep it might be. Queerplatonic vs. Romantic. Because queerplatonic relationships are not going to be spoken about on this show. So for the general audience, it’s a question of friends vs. romantic partners. And with so much groundwork and foundation there, not taking the one final step of bringing them together would be a cowardly move and a literal copout.

Because instead of seeing two bisexual men in a loving and committed relationship and having to acknowledge what’s in front of them, most of the audience would then get to write off and laugh away the idea them being LGBTQ at all.

And that’s exactly what they would do. The general audience would get to go to bed with the knowledge that Buck and Eddie are in nice relationships with women and are perfectly straight and have a simple friendly relationship with each other. And it will be just another day for them.

And the entire LGBTQ community would be cheated out of what could be groundbreaking and honestly history-making on-screen representation.

Okay, so in my headcanon, once MC starts dating Jumin...bean is going to want to know her entire life story.

And he will give his entire life story.

But this will also include past relationships.

Jumin is not so naive that he would assume MC never had any past relationships.

After the events of his route, he learned to not be so possessive and controlling over MC.

...But Jumin will totally want to meet his ex.

MC will have to assure him that the break up was mutal thing and no one was hurt.

MC’s ex is the one who is the most stressed. Jumin is a bit intimidating.

But after getting to know the ex and having Seven do a background check Jumin realizes how good of friends MC and her ex are.

Any friend of MC is a friend of Jumin.

Her ex is still a little scared of Jumin...

Yoosung

Can you say insecure?

Anxiety levels through the roof.

He should go meet MC’s ex and show how he’s her man!

...But what if he’s big and strong and is a totally better boyfriend then he is???

MC PLEASE DON’T LEAVE MEEEEEEE

But MC convinces Yoosung to meet her ex.

They meet at a mall and it is pretty awkward at first.

What really makes Yoosung relax a little is seeing MC and her ex interact. There isn’t that unrequited love feel. They seem more like siblings than anything else

Then the ex mentions LOLOL. They end up talking about that for most of the time.

After the hangout, Yoosung finally asks why they broke up.

MC explains that they made better friends than partners.

Yoosung could accept that~

Zen

So I have been playing around with this idea of my OC being a dancer and ends up being in a production with Zen. I may end up writing this but if not then here it is!

So the production is the “Romeo and Juliet but with Dancing” type of story. Y’know the ones where Juliet is a classically trained dancer where Romeo is more freestyle. This mirrors reality because MC has been trained as a dancer where Zen is self-taught.

MC is Juliet, Zen is Romeo but MC’s ex is the third point in the love triangle. He and MC grew up together, training in the same dance studio. They dated throughout high school but broke up when they graduated because they wanted to focus on their own careers.

Zen discovers this as MC squeals when she sees her ex and runs up to hug him.

Wow, Zen your eyes have gone from red to green!

This makes for a very...interesting rehearsal

Zen is trying to show off his own skills but...he is not the technical dancer that MC’s ex is...

....And they have been dancing for years. Zen knows there is something special about performing, especially with your loved ones.

When they have their break, MC takes Zen to the side and talks him through it.

When the performance is done, everyone talks about how real Zen’s emotions felt on stage...

Jaehee

Probably the most likely out of the RFA to actually have had a past relationship let’s be real

A little insecure about MC and him still being friends.

However, Jaehee and MC’s ex really hit it off.

She’s hadn’t really maintained a lot of longlasting relationships because she has been so busy with school and then working...and more working.

While she is still busy with the baker, she has made it a priority to allow herself free time to spend with MC.

This now expanded to MC’s ex.

She actually really enjoys having a friend outside of the RFA.

While MC is, of course, wonderful and she could not imagine her life without MC, everyone needs friends!

Someone to just have coffee with every once in a while.

Jaehee starts expanding her social pool by finding people interesting in other things she likes, like judo or musical theater.

Listen I just want Jaehee to have more friends, dangit!

Saeyoung

Already knew about the ex.

Seven will tease them about it nonstop when he and MC first meet up with her ex.

Luckily, her ex has a good sense of humor and teases Seven about it back.

It is kind of the normalcy that Saeyoung needs tbh.

Like MC’s ex does not believe the crazy stuff that has happened in the RFA. He’s just like “Saeyoung, you’re a secret agent? Well I’m the queen of England!”

To be fair, some of the stuff that happens in this series is...hard to believe.

He is just such a normal guy that it is kind of nice to be able to chill with him.

Making up for the brotherly relationship he was robbed of--whoops

“That is totally cool, MC”

Narrator: It was, in fact, not totally cool

While he would try to hide it as much as he could, V is a little possessive

His first instinct is just to internalize his jealously and pretend everything is fine.

MC picks up on that real quick.

Finally gets him to express his discomfort.

Explains that they dated in high school and once they went to college, they just grew apart. They are still friends but they do not have any romantic feelings for each other.

Still may not want to be friends with the ex

But calms down a little, especially after MC smoothers him in love and kisses

Saeran

Never crosses his mind that MC would have a relationship before meeting him.

“MC, fairy tale princesses don’t have ex-boyfriends! T_T”

It didn’t come up in MC’s research. It was a very lowkey relationship that did not go anywhere.

However, Saeran has never been in a relationship before and the fact that MC called someone at some point “boyfriend” makes him very insecure.

It requires a lot of explaining about how it was barely a romantic relationship but they still kept in touch.

Saeran doesn’t to hold MC back from having a social life outside of him. However, there is still that linger fear that he isn’t good enough for her.

So it takes some getting used it.

MC eases Saeran in but introducing him to her purely platonic friends and then working her way up to her ex.

I don’t think Saeran will ever be comfortable enough to be friends with MC’s ex but he will respect and trust MC.

Vanderwood

“I don’t approve of this, MC.”

MC: *blink* *blink* “excuse me?”

They have kind of an argument about this.

“What if he’s a spy for the agency?”

“He’s not a spy for the agency.”

“YOU DON’T KNOW THAT.”

“VANDERWOOD!!!”

He’s honestly kind of a brat about it.

“But Vandy he’s my best friend.”

*Vanderwood smirk* “I thought I was your best friend.”

This guy I swear.

Has to be dragged in order to meet him.

Uhhh.. I don't think love at first sight is a good concept to go by for a longlasting stable relationship. It's not an indicator for me that you fit together or know each other enough to truly love each others' souls.

Soulmate?

Uhhh. I think some people just utterly fit together. I'm dating people rn that I think are sort of "meant to be with me". Why? Because sometimes people just seem to belong together. It doesn't make sense to not be together and even apart, it draws you in.

I'm no romantic but I think some people are v compatible. Do they have to get together? Nah. That being said, I think soulmates don't have to be strictly romantic /sexual in nature. Platonic and friendship or familial relationships can also be soulmate-like for people.

It's just a particularly, quick strong bond if I were to define it. So yeah, can be a thing.

Maybe it's an actual soul thing if you want to believe into souls and such <3 that's valid and totally okay. Just respect one another.
