Chapter 7: Call it Love
Tumblr media
Pairing: Lamina x (Fem!Mentor)Reader
Summary: Apparently getting asked to the Paper Lantern Festival is a big thing in 7. Not only you have to deal with Acacius' self-insertion, you also now have to deal with his jealousy, as he wanted to be the one to accompany Lamina. Despite there are some secrets being exposed, you also finally get to understand the significance of Lamina gifting you her headscarf all that time ago...
Warnings: Swearing, Lamina's PTSD
Key: Italics = Thoughts, +*+ = Time Skip, Bold/Italics = Flashback
Theme: Call it Love - Picture This
A/n: Might make an epilogue or come up with ideas for Y/n and Lamina's future, idk yet :) School started back up for me and I'm about to be busy. But, I'll try to keep posting as much as possible!
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5 | Chapter 6
------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Lamina's POV* The both of you reach home but low and behold to neither of your surprises, Acacius was in the living room.
"We've been waiting here for you two for hours," Your pa states, "Where have y'all been?"
"Oh you know..." Y/n sighs, "When the 11th Victor of the Hunger Games personally wants to meet the both of you, peacekeepers will make sure of that.."
"What are you doing here Acacius?" You ask
"There was something I wanted to ask you, Lamina," He says, standing onto his feet, "I wanted to ask you if you would accompany me to the Paper Lanter-"
"I already asked Y/n to accompany me," You blurt out
Awkward silence...
"Oh... Okay," He says, attempting to take rejection calmly, "Then... I'll see you there anyway..."
He trudges his way out to the door.
"Hope you two have fun," He says before making his leave
+*+
You and Lamina attend another hoedown, the night before the Lantern Festival.
"You guys sure do like having these things," You sigh
"Well, yeah," Lamina says, "When we have our Lantern Festival, it's a way to honor loved ones and close friends who aren't here anymore."
"Do you... Miss Treech?" You ask, curiously
"Here and there," She says, "He wasn't much but he was from home..."
"I could see how protective he was over you when you were all there, in the zoo," You say
The both if you head to the dance floor...
*Acacius' POV* You watch Lamina and Y/n dance... The look on Lamina's face... You remember when Lamina looked at you like that...
"What's so special about Y/n?" You ask, mostly to yourself
"Right? Like... Lamina was begging to hang out with you before the 10th games," One of your friends feeds your questioning self, "It's like... She shows up all of a sudden and now Lamina is all over her than you."
"I don't even recognize her," Another friend chimes, "Don't think she's from around here... You don't think?..."
Was Y/n Capitol?...
"Only one way to find out," You say
*Y/n's POV* "Lamina, may I have a dance?" Acacius comes up to the both of you
You look at Lamina and could see the look on her face. One of being uncomfortable...
"Read her face Acacius," You say, "She doesn't want a dance."
"I wasn't asking you, I was-"
"No, Acacius," She says, "I don't want a dance with you."
"What is it about her?" He gestures to you
You instinctively push Lamina behind you, "What is it about me? I can read when Lamina doesn't want something from you."
"One single dance wouldn't kill you Lamina," He says
"She already gave you her answer," You say, firmly, "Now get lost..."
"I... I have been there for Lamina's family for the longest time!" Acacius snaps, "What does Lamina even see in you that makes you is special enough for Lamina to ask you to the Lantern Festival, and give you her headscarf?!"
Unknown eyes begin to lay upon the three of you...
"That's a very good damn question!" You yell back, looking down at your tied wrist, "I still don't even understand why she gave it to me!"
"Wow..." He sighs, "You're even dumber than you look. You get a headscarf from the girl I love, and you don't even understand the significance behind it. Why is that?"
"I..." You begin to waver
You were trying to scramble an answer together that wouldn't reveal where you moved from...
"Tell us... All of 7 the truth, Y/n Y/l/n," He says, a sinister smile beginning to form on his mouth, "Why don't you understand a very old District 7 tradition?"
You could see his friends beginning to chant the words: tell us.
"Because I'm not from here! I'm from the capitol!" You yell, snapping
Silence...
Your eyes widen... But Acacius smirks... Your heartbeat thrums against your skull... You look around at all of the faces looking at you... Now that your secret was out.
"A capitol scum!!" One of his friends points out
Acacius grabs your collar...
Panic sets in as you attempt to find a way to get him to let go of you. From the corners of your eyes, his friends surround you; preventing any escape routes.
"Acacius stop!" Lamina grabs his wrist, "She was my mentor! She was the one who got me home!"
"This... Twig right here?" He lets go of your collar, beginning to laugh, "You have to be joking."
You roll your eyes at the nickname...
"She isn't," You say
"You keep your trap shut. Lamina, I don't understand what makes her so special in your eyes," He says
"She's special, is because she isn't like the other people from the capitol," Lamina explains, "She's kind, went above and beyond for me, and she is the only person that understands my trauma. I..."
"You what Lamina?" He asks
Silence falls over the venue as everyone awaits for a response from their Victor...
"I love her Acacius!" You yell
*Y/n's POV* Lamina... Loves me?...
Acacius lets go of you, and Lamina immediately pulls you into her embrace.
You feel the same way about her. However, you were worried that everyone in 7 would see her differently from the most amazing girl she is.
You watch Lamina's upper body rise and fall with giant, exaggerated pants as she attempts to compose herself. However, whispers and murmurs became evident...
"Lamina how could you love someone from the capitol?!" He asks, "They do nothing but ridicule us and send us into that arena where most of us don't come home!"
"Y/n got me home!" Lamina yells back, "She kept me fed in that cage, she saved my life when the arena was bombed, she visited me every night when she had the chance; even with a broken leg she made the effort. To top it off, she said that she'd switch places with me in the games, risking her life."
"I would have done the same," He says
"Then why didn't you volunteer to go in Treech's place?!" She asks
The silence had become loud in the event space...
"That's what I thought," She sighs
"But, I still don't get why you love her," He says, "She's capitol..."
"Her mother is from District 9," Lamina adds
"Still makes her half-capitol," He says
Enough already...
You watch them continuing on bantering back and forth about you being half-capitol...
Lamina doesn't deserve this...
*Lamina's POV* "I don't care if Y/n is from the capitol Acacius," You say, "It doesn't change the fact of how much I love her."
"Just wait, she'll confess one day that she never really loved you," He smirks, "That it was all an act."
"She won't... If she didn't cares he wouldn't have left her capitol life behind just to be with someone like me. Acacius, if I ever see you, or your friends on my family property ever again, or try to even as much as lay a single one of your fingers on Y/n, I will lodge my axe into your head," You growl
You watch as Acacius and his friends begin making their quick exit. You didn't feel good that you had to make a threat like that... But, you didn't like how he attempted to insert himself back into your life after being absent since coming home a Victor, as well as coaxing Y/n into revealing her half-capitol status.
"Come on Y/n, let's go ho- Y/n?" You look up, but Y/n is nowhere to be seen
"Y/n?!" You call out for her
You run out of the space and into the cool, dark night. Eyes settle on you. But, you didn't care, you only wanted to find Y/n and go home...
+*+
You were losing track of time... But, you were growing tired by the second... You force yourself to return home.
You open the door, you hear your pa's voice, but he stands once he sees you and your distressed state.
"What's the matter darlin'?" He asks
"Acacius isn't welcome here anymore pa," You try to not let out a sob
But, your pa knows your emotional side all too well.
"You can explain that to me later, anyone who makes my daughter cry is dead to this family," He says, "Now where is Y/n?"
"I don't know, I've searched everywhere," You say, sniffling
"Hmm," He sighs, "Sleep on it... You can search tomorrow first thing. Or if you're patient enough, Y/n will come back to you."
You nod as you make your way up the stairs to get ready for bed.
*Y/n's POV* You find yourself at a communication station at the center of town, immediately dialing your mother.
"Hello?" Her voice answers
"Mom..." You stifle a cry
"Y/n baby... What's wrong?" She asks, "I thought you were enjoying 7."
"I am mom..." You sniffle, "But..."
You pause...
"But?..." She brings you back
"But, I realize how much they really hate people like me..." You say
"Honey, you're half district," She says, "Besides, all of the letters you sent me... Were all about your budding relationship with Lamina, and how much you've been learning about her culture, and how much you actually like it."
"Yeah... I was hoping I'd keep my status as a capitol-born person in the ground but...." You sigh, continuing on trying to hide your tears, "Didn't really work... Got into a heated argument..."
"Now, Y/n, listen to me," Your mother coos to you
You take a deep breath and compose yourself... Listening.
"You're in the same boat I was when I moved to the capitol," She begins, "Even if I had moved there years ago, there will always be some people that will never accept me. But, there will always be a handful of people who had accepted me. Now, I know you found a handful of people that will never accept you... But, you found the people who love you, and accept you, regardless."
"I did but... I'm worried that their community will see them differently now..." You say
"Y/n, how long have you been in 7?" She asks
"A long while," You answer
"And when was the last time you were beaten because you were for the capitol?" She asks
"Just day one," You answer, "I was close earlier tonight..."
"See? They were warming up to you from the get-go," She says, "Now, don't let some rag tag district people keep you from earning the life you want."
You take a deep breath, "Thanks mom."
"Now get back home, it's late," She says
You hang up the phone... You lean back into the chair and try to compose yourself.
*Lamina's POV* You wake up screaming again... You try to muffle your screams into your pillow as you try to find your breathing pattern.
"H-hey," Y/n's voice echoes
It's... It's in my head...
"Lamina," Y/n's voice calls out to you, but muffled
Make it stop.. I'm so tired... Everything hurts...
"Lamina," Her voice calls out to you again, but firmer, and more distinguishable
You feel something on the top of your hand... You stop trying to find a breathing pattern and look over to see Y/n kneeling at your bedside...
"Y/n?...." Your voice trembles, your hand reaching out to her cheek, "Are you real?..."
Though it had only been a mere handful of hours, not having Y/n nearby you believed your nightmares were real and you were waking up more frequently throughout the night... You didn't even know what time it was.
Y/n gently takes your hand and places it against her cheek.
"I'm real, Lamina," She sighs, "I'm one hundred percent real..."
You begin crying as she wraps her arms around your hips and pull you into her embrace. You shove your head into her shoulder and sob, bundling parts of her shirt into your hands. You begin to lean back against your pillow, but not letting go of her.
"Will you stay?..." You ask, in between sobs
"As if you needed to ask," She smiles, "Besides, you have yet to let go of me..."
She gets underneath the covers and you cling to her...
"Can't help it if you just left without notice..." You argue, sniffling
"I'm sorry Lamina," She sighs, "I guess.. I was worried of how people would view you if you were to love someone like me... From the capitol."
"If you didn't hear me, I don't care if you're from the capitol and I sure as hell don't care what people think of me in this town," You say
+*+
When you wake up the following morning, you slowly open your eyes, half-prepared to be greeted with an empty bed. However, you look up and see Y/n still there, in the same position she got into the bed. You sigh in relief and prop yourself on your elbow and watch as Y/n sneaks closer into your embrace.
You brush some hair out of Y/n's face as she continues to sleep. You lean down and gently place a kiss on her forehead. You weren't about to have your pa walk in and your lips are connected to Y/n's.
"If you wanted a kiss, you could have just asked," Y/n's voice groans
"Well, I didn't want my pa to walk in on that," You chuckle, "Did you sleep okay?"
She nods, "Did you?"
She tucks a loose strand of hair behind your ear, brushing your jawline with the back of her fingers.
"I only woke up once," You say, "But, that was mostly because I thought you were gone again..."
"Me?" She asks, smiling, "Never. Besides, there's no other people here that would house me, and you were clinging to me the entire night."
+*+
You write the names; Treech and your mother onto the lantern.
"The only two people that cared about me that aren't here anymore," You clarify, "Here, your turn."
She takes the makeshift pen and writes her pa's name.
"Only one I care about that isn't around anymore," She tells you
The both of you add a couple of minimal designs onto the still flat lantern. But begin to assemble it to its three-dimensional form. She scoops her hands under yours as you two lift the lantern into the air as the sky began to illuminate with them. You lean back into Y/n's torso as the both of you watch the sky.
"Thank you," Y/n says
You turn to look at her.
"For what?" You ask
"Asking me to accompany you to... This Lantern Festival and not... Acacius," She answers
"Well, of course," You say, chuckling, "Why would I invite him? After what happened last night? No way, he's dead to me, and to my family."
"I don't know... I just..." She attempts to find the right words, "He just seemed so adamant that he'd go with you or something..."
"Please, he was absent after I got home. He also had no right to poke at you the way he did," You say, "I prefer your company over his."
"You do?" She asks
You nod, "Why else would I want to bring you around 7?"
"Here I thought it was to get me acquainted with the district," She chuckles
"Oh, darlin', you're already acquainted with 7," You say, smiling
*Y/n's POV* She called you darling... In her District 7 accent.
You don't know why but it made your heart flutter.
"Well, I prefer yours too," You say, "Especially when you were in the capitol."
*Lamina's POV* Y/n was the best thing that ever happened to you when you were forced to fight other people your age to the death. She kept you well fed, gave you company that you didn't know you needed at the time, would be willing to insert herself into a dangerous situation if it meant that you'd live, and left her capitol life behind to find you...
She is everything to you.
"Do you want to know the symbolism behind me giving you my scarf?" You ask
*Y/n's POV* You look down to your wrapped wrist. It was one of your treasured items that you had always taken around with you.
"Is it a... Momento of yours so that I wouldn't forget you?" You guess
"Close," She says, "When a girl from 7 gives someone their scarf... It's them confessing that she has feelings towards that person."
You think back to the night before Lamina's games...
That long ago?!...
"I get that you confessed your love for me but... I'm just now being told that you had feelings for me since that night?" You ask
You couldn't help but crack a smile...
"I... Wasn't sure if you felt the same," She says
"Well, the capitol sure doesn't have any cute traditions like 7 does..." You say, "But, when someone from the capitol falls for someone... They attempt to do anything that would impress that specific person."
*Lamina's POV* Y/n's gift when you arrived in the capitol...
Y/n cooking you a meal after being put into the capitol zoo...
Y/n Y/l/n, who was from the capitol was trying to impress you... Someone from the districts.
"Well, in the beginning I was trying to make a good impression, "She says, "But over time... I... Just kept... Falling... I guess... For you- that is."
"Well, we were falling together and we didn't know it," You smile
This time...
Your pa or Acacius wasn't going to stop either of you...
There wasn't the social status difference...
There were no fears of death...
There was certainly no cage keeping the both of you separated from one another...
You gently press your forehead against Y/n's...
"Do you love me? Real, or not real?" You ask
"... Real," Y/n answers, smiling
You place your hands on her shoulders and begin closing the space, however, you let out a gasp when Y/n jolts forward, quickly closing that space and wraps her arm around your waist to keep you from falling backward. You grab the back of her hair.
"Lamina," She sighs
She slightly pulls away to attempt to catch her breath however, you weren't finished. You never lost hope that Y/n would confess her love to you.
You finally pull yourself away to breathe, but your hands remained on her shoulders, and your foreheads pressed against one another.
"You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that," You sigh into a smile
"Oh, I have an idea alright," She smiles, "Because I have had the same idea for a long time."
Your mouth curves into a smile; to the point where your cheeks hurt from smiling for so long. But, you didn't care. You finally snagged the girl that saved your life and brought you home.

The Favorite (Chapter One)
Tumblr media
Warnings: mentions and descriptions of death, mentions and descriptions of injury
Prologue or Chapter Two
Tumblr media
The 68th Hunger Games is a time of my life that when I look back on it, is a blurry mess in my head. The only times the memories are clear the ones I don't want to remember.
On the train to the capitol, my pa was crying, he never cried it shook me and everyone in the room. I think our district escort Leto almost started to cry from fright as he a never even seen my pa do anything other than sit quietly and brood in the corner or talk to  tributes and other mentors
I know why he cried, it was my last reaping and if I had not gotten reaped I would have turned 19 before the next year and I would have been in the clear, no more reapings but that wasn't going to happen. Even with my pa being a Victor and me growing up with the privileges of a Victor's daughter like never having to take out tesserae and even living in Victor's village and having the time to go travelling around District 10 even with how big it was, there was always a foreboding sense that as the child of a Victor, I would be targeted. Being reaped for the Hunger Games was a constant threat hanging over my head. Those fears had come into reality on that day.
The parade and training had been blurs that ended up with only certain moments sticking out. How gaudy the stetson hat I wore for the parade was, it was pink and glittery. Now normally I was one for a bit of sparkle but to see a hat so similar in shape and size to the one I would wear when helping on the ranch back home was unsettling.
The male tribute from 10 was a 15-year-old boy called Lucas, I didn't know much about him other than the fact he was the butcher's son. He was quiet but was quick to fly off the handle nearly causing fights in training every hour or so with the careers,  I cannot recall the names of any other tributes besides Lucas and the careers.  I did well in training, Lucas and I decided to train together and ally together in the arena, this made training with the mentors easier as my pa wasn't in a state where he could remain calm enough to mentor us both, so Benji the boy who won the few years before stepped up to the plate to mentor.us both with pa I scored pretty well an 8 and that made all the years as a child learning how to lasso a cow worth it, although I had scored well enough almost as good as the careers for that year I still wasn't very confident that I had a chance, I didn't set myself apart really from the other tributes other than the fact my father was a victor to get sponsors
That was until my interview with Caesar Flickerman. My performance on that stage was the most vibrant I had ever been. Even if it was all an act, a heightened performance of who I was. During my interview with Caesar, I stole the show with a sweet demeanour, charming the audience and enchanting them like the girl next door. I was all smiles and jokes, and the audience was captivated by my performance. I knew I had nailed it and I hoped that would be enough to win over sponsors.
It was and within two weeks I was the one being lifted out of the arena alive with fractures and cuts, an acid burn across my back and my left leg broken in multiple places but alive.
Lucus and I made it out of the bloodbath unscathed. We set up camp in the arena and had a few close calls with mutts that resembled foxes but were larger. The arena looked like an abandoned town surrounded by tower-block apartment buildings and a forest.  acid pits were in random places.
My first kill was a District 6 girl who had grabbed me and was trying to push me into one of the many acid pits she managed to get acid on my back from the excess of neon yellow acid spilling from the pit on the ground beneath me , and she had me pinned hand around my neck Lucas was fighting off whoever she had allied with I managed to throw her off planting my boots in her stomach and kicking her back into the pit of acid before forcing myself up and lassoing her ally giving Lucas the same opportunity to kick the boy into the pit as well
The walls of the arena moved in every 12 hours making the arena smaller and smaller over the last few days they sped up moving. an hour less every time pushing us remaining four into the centre of the arena, a large crumbling building with a large elevator shaft in the centre. The other two were the girl from 4 Pearl and the boy from 1 Lux.  Lucus and I were the last remaining alliance or so I thought I had laid down, and we were alternating watches i was almost asleep when I heard—
“---Mari, are you even listening?”  the voice of my Pa cuts off my train of thought. I turn my head to look over at his frustrated face losing my view out the window of the country slide that flies past as the train speeds ahead to the next destination of the victory tour “Huh” I blurt out
“Marina, you need to listen how else will you know what you will have to say when you go out on stage” Leto chastises me from beside my pa at the table “I can read cue cards leto ” I joke with a confused look on my face “ya know like how I have in every other district so far, how is district 4 any different” I add as turn my head to look back out the window
I hear my pa sigh “You know why, the female district 4 tribute–” “Pearl, her name was Pearl” I cut him off not turning my head away from the window
Another sigh “Pearl was the runner-up, normally in the runner ups district the victor says something about them to console the family” What like, ‘She could pack a good punch, sorry I killed her but not really or else I would be dead’ that would go over well with the crowd
“Okay, so what should I say then,” I ask them
"Well, you could mention her bravery and determination in the arena, and express your condolences to her family for their loss. It's important to show empathy and acknowledge the sacrifices made by all the tributes." Leto tells me and I can see in the reflection of the window as he stuffs a purple-looking pastry into his mouth smearing his black lipstick. I see my pa side-eye him in disgust, Leto being Leto doesn't notice a thing as he chews the pastry.
“Do I look down at the cue cards like I prepared what Im going to say, or just say it like I'm saying it from the heart?” I ask turning to look at my pa wanting him to answer not Leto
Pa gives me a small nod "Just say it like you're saying it from the heart." I take a deep breath and turn back to face the window.
As I do, the coastline of District 4 comes into view as the tracks now run parallel with the ocean. The sparkling blue waters of the ocean stretch as far as the eye can see, complementing the picturesque coastline of District 4. The waves crash gently against the shore, creating a soothing symphony that adds to the breathtaking view from the train.
"Let's get this over with," I mutter under my breath, feeling a mix of nerves and anticipation as the train glides closer to the district.
I sat on the steps of the District 4 Hall of Justice later that night in a bright yellow tulle dress, a stark contrast to the muted shades typically worn in any district. The vibrant colour stands out against the backdrop of the dark, imposing building that is currently hosting the victory banquet I have just snuck away from. As I sit I reflect on the day, a glass of wine in my hand, I can't help but feel the weight of the speech I delivered. If looks could kill, Pearl's mother would have been arrested on the spot for my murder. The tension in the air was palpable, and I could only hope that she wasn't waiting out here for me now to jump me. Bet she can throw a good punch as well.
i lift the wine glass to my lips and drown down the contents then gag slightly at the taste of the wine
“Gah, yuck”
As I set the empty wine glass down, a sudden rustling in the bushes nearby frightens me. My heart skips a beat as I turn my head towards the source of the noise, only to see a stray cat emerge, its eyes glowing in the dim light.
“It's just a cat,” I tell myself trying to calm my nerves as I watch the cat go about its business as I begin to stand. ‘’It is a cat isn't it”
A voice suddenly says from beside me, causing me to jump and scream. The cat scampers away as I turn and have to get up to see a young man standing nearby at the top of the steps, a smirk on his face. He simply shrugs his shoulders “Sorry I didn't mean to scare you, but I just had to meet District 10's newest Victor”
The smirk doesn't leave his face as he walks down a few steps to greet me properly as I see him closer I realise who he is, Finnick Odair, the charming and charismatic victor from District 4. His sea-green eyes sparkle with mischief as he extends a hand towards me for a handshake smirk still plastered across his stupidly good-looking face.
"Finnick Odair, at your service," he says with a playful wink, his voice dripping with charisma.
Shaking his hand tentatively, I try not to get flustered by his wink. I have a bad feeling about this
“Im Marina, Marina Nivera”
“Oh I  know who you are Marina” He leans in closer, his lips curling into a mischievous smile. "I already know all about you. I watched your games very closely" He states, his eyes narrowing slightly before going back to normal
I can't help but feel a chill run down my spine. He's too close for comfort. I try to keep my expression neutral, but I'm wary of his motives. As I let go of Finnick's hand, I can't help but feel a sense of unease. It's not just his charming demeanour, but the knowledge that he watched my games and knows more about me than I'm comfortable with.
I let a small smile onto my face
“It seems like im the only person in all of Panem who hasn't watched my games” I joke trying to figure out what conversion this is going to be and if I need to escape now
Finnick chuckles softly, his eyes still fixed on me. "Well, Marina, you'll be surprised to know that you've left quite an impression on everyone, including me. But don't worry, I'm not here to cause trouble. I'm here to offer you my help and guidance as you navigate your newfound fame. You know Victor to Victor"
I raise my eyebrows at him slightly “Is that so, well what guidance do you have to offer me, ya know Victor to Victor”
Finnick leans in closer, his voice a teasing tone that comes across more like a warning than a joke. “The sea can be treacherous. It may seem calm on the surface but beneath lies danger. Remember, never trust a stranger, no matter how charming they may appear. They may just be waiting for the right moment to pull you under."
Um yeah nope I don't care how nice he is to look at, he's intimidating, gorgeous but scary  I put on a smile “Thanks for the advice, I wish you weren't a stranger then I could use it”
A flicker of surprise crosses Finnick's face at my response, and for a moment, his charming facade slips. But just as quickly, his smile returns, covering any trace of vulnerability. "Perhaps we won't be strangers for long," he says, his voice tinged with a hint of intrigue.
I give him a polite nod, but my mind is already racing, searching for an escape plan. I can't shake the feeling that there's more to Finnick than meets the eye,
"Maybe but for now, I appreciate the offer of guidance, I really should-" I start to say with a fake smile, but before I can finish my sentence i get cut off
"Mari there you are we have been looking all over for you…" my father says, his voice trailing off as he sees Finnick sitting there. His expression immediately sours, and I can sense the tension in the air.
“Rex” “Finnick”
This is just great and I thought it was tense before Pa showed up
I cough awkwardly and my pa gives me a look “Mari it's time to go we need to get back on the train”
You don't have to tell me twice
I turn to Finnick and say my goodbye, giving him a polite smile. "It was nice to meet you, Finnick. Thank you for the advice and offer of guidance. Maybe our paths will cross again soon."
“Oh they will,” Finnick says confidently. He turns and moseys on up into the justice building past my pa giving him a smirk before disappearing into the building I rush up the steps to my pa “Please tell me not all victors are going to make me feel weird  as he just did” My pa just sighs as he begins to lead me back to the rest of our group
As we walk back to the rest of our group, my pa finally speaks up about Finnick. "You know, Mari, Finnick was Pearl's mentor and he was rooting for her during the games. That's probably why he seemed a bit off with you. And In the mentor room, there was a lot of tension between us both at the time."
"But Mari, I want you to be careful around that boy ya hear? I can't tell you who to hang around with, but just keep your wits about you. There's something about him that doesn't sit right with me," my pa warns, his voice filled with concern.
‘’Okay Pa I will be careful”   But that night, my dreams were filled with waves crashing against the shore, the clinking of wine glasses, mysterious cats hiding in bushes, and a pair of captivating sea-green eyes that seemed to hold secrets I couldn't quite grasp.
Tumblr media
notes: So Mari has met Finnick yay, probably not in the cutest way, but hey gotta meet somehow. I also hope I have made it clear that her name is Marina but that she goes by Mari with all the backstory I was wondering how to make it super clear. im also pondering if Finnick will call her Mari or Rina later on in the story so I would love some feedback on that.....also if someone could please teach me how to make links pretty that would be greatly appreciated

ACTION TOOK PLACE: FEBRUARY 5TH 2024
Haven't seen any posts about it but yesterday was the first day of session for PA state reps and Pennsylvania showed up to tell them to BDS PA tax dollars or GTFO of office
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There were easily 200 people outside the building who led the diversion for over 150 people to get into the pa capitol building rotunda. Originally 126 arrests were made, but a state rep (from Philly) talked the cops back down to a misdemeanor
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I just wanted to share because I've seen a significant decrease in posting and protests being shared on here and this was a solid day of action many people took just 24 hours ago

I'm rereading the hunger games series and I have Thoughts. This will be a really long post because I'll keep adding to it
The Hunger Games
It feels especially cruel that they have to write their own names for the reaping
I originally was thinking about why there would still be a boy and a girl tribute so far in the future when most people now know that there are more than two genders but then I remembered where we currently are with gender in America when it comes to the government. Also, I don't think proper gender representation in a world where they routinely send their kids to die is top priority
Hiding the suffering of the poor by covering up their death by starvation with some sickness seems like some shit we would pull even now
Travel between districts being forbidden is wild because they're trying to make traveling between states for abortions and gender affirming care illegal. The foreshadowing is insane
I want them to do whatever they did to Katniss at the Remake Center, it would be so nice for me because I enjoy that kind of thing but hate the time and energy it takes on my part
Why is PA not part of District 12? Centralia is literally still on fire!
I think I appreciate the romance between Katniss and Peeta now. I know the feeling of having someone be a safe place, your home. Particularly during the interview when she buries her face in Peeta's shirt. It was heartbreaking to read when I was already missing her a lot
I also really appreciate the ending with that romance. Like Peeta, I have been so completely in love and feeling like there is a great future ahead of me only for it to fall apart in a split second. I also feel for Katniss losing that safe place. I just think I appreciate the whole arc more
This one is more the whole series but I literally just thought of this in class. Even though we don't know the exact events of how Panem was created or the first rebellion, but it can be assumed that it was a New War. With that, it can be assumed that peacekeeping didn't work because peacekeeping doesn't work with New Wars. It doesn't work because it doesn't hold anyone accountable, which makes sense since they're employed by the Capitol. It also accepts the idea that everyone in the districts is different from each other, but especially from the Capitol. So peacekeepers failed because the people got sick of dealing with the atrocities from the Capitol and realized that they aren't all that different from each other

Legislators in Pennsylvania, supported by Planned Parenthood, are attempting to remove safety regulations from abortion clinics that were established in 2011 to prevent the horrors of former abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell from happening again. Rep. Tarik Khan (D-Philadelphia) hosted a press conference in January at the state capitol to introduce his effort to pass legislation…

By Jake Johnson
Common Dreams
April 7, 2023
Progressives in the U.S. Congress reacted with outrage Thursday after the Republican-dominated Tennessee House voted to expel two lawmakers who joined protesters in demanding gun control legislation during a demonstration inside the state Capitol last week.
"This is fascism," said Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.). "Expelling your political opponents for demanding action on gun violence when children are dying is disgusting."
Rep. Summer Lee (D-Pa.) similarly called the expulsion of state Democratic Reps. Justin Jones and Justin Pearson "straight-up fascism in its ugliest, most racist form." Jones and Pearson are both Black; a vote to expel their colleague Rep. Gloria Johnson, who is white, fell short.
"There is no justification for ousting two legislators who were protesting with and for their constituents," Lee said in a statement. "That two Black men were expelled for standing up against the murder of children—but not their white counterpart—says it all. People are dying because Republicans want to put politics over the lives of the people they represent. They ask for safety for themselves, but not for school children, and they'll sacrifice the lives of our loved ones for their lobbyists."
"Now is not the time to be on the sidelines," Lee added. "We better fight back before it's too late."
Thursday's expulsion votes, held as furious demonstrators gathered inside the Capitol to protest the move, came less than two weeks after a mass shooting at a school in Nashville left three young children and three adults dead.
The expulsion resolutions were led by Republican Reps. Bud Hulsey, Gino Bulso, and Andrew Farmer, fervent opponents of gun control. Hulsey and Farmer have voted to further weaken Tennessee's firearm regulations on a number of occasions in recent years, earning them high marks from the National Rifle Association.
"This is fascism, full stop," Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) tweeted following Thursday's votes. "MAGA Republicans are no longer content with inaction on gun violence—instead of thoughts and prayers, they want to silence and expel politicians who speak up to protect children. I vehemently condemn this racist, undemocratic assault on freedom of speech."
"Republicans may think they won today in Tennessee, but their fascism is only further radicalizing and awakening an earthquake of young people."
Tennessee Republicans—who likened the peaceful Capitol protests in the wake of the shooting to an "insurrection"—justified the removal of Jones and Pearson as a defense of decorum. Last week, Jones, Pearson, and Johnson took to the podium on the state House floor without recognition to show solidarity with those demanding legislative action in response to the massacre in Nashville—the 129th mass shooting in the U.S. this year.
But the claim that the expulsions were necessary to protect chamber norms was widely rejected as a cover for authoritarian political retribution, particularly given Tennessee Republicans' past refusal to remove lawmakers accused of sexual misconduct and other wrongdoing.
"For years, one of your colleagues, an admitted child molester, sat in this chamber—no expulsion," Jones said in a floor speech on Thursday, referring to former Republican state Rep. David Byrd.
Johnson filed resolutions to expel Byrd in 2019 and 2020, but the GOP-controlled chamber declined to act. Byrd went on to win reelection in 2020.
"We had a former speaker sit in this chamber who is now under federal investigation—no expulsion," Jones said in his speech. "We have a member still under federal investigation—no expulsion. We had a member pee in another member's chair, in this chamber—no expulsion. In fact, they're in leadership, in the governor's administration."
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) joined her fellow House progressives in decrying the Tennessee House's actions and predicted the expulsions will only galvanize youth activism.
"Republicans may think they won today in Tennessee, but their fascism is only further radicalizing and awakening an earthquake of young people, both in the South and across the nation," the New York Democrat wrote on social media.
"If you thought youth organizing was strong," she added, "just wait for what's coming."

The Senate unanimously passed a resolution Wednesday putting into effect a formal dress code, The Associated Press reported.
The vote comes a week after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., changed the dress code to allow casual dress on the Senate floor.
The new resolution, shepherded by Democrat Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Republican Mitt Romney of Utah, calls for requiring business attire on the chamber floor, including a coat, tie and slacks for men.
“The United States Capitol is more than just a place of work — it serves as a symbol of freedom and democracy to the world,” Romney said. “Hard work was done, and sacrifices made, to ensure that our legislative branch of government wasn’t just housed in some tent. As senators, we should demonstrate a high level of reverence for the institution in which we serve — and our attire is one of the most basic expressions of that respect.”
Schumer’s decision to relax the standards for the Senate floor was a nod to Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., who is known for wearing shorts and a sweatshirt hoodie in the halls of Congress.
Manchin said he and Romney introduced the new rule to codify formal wear and “put all of this to bed once and for all.”
“For 234 years, every senator that has had the honor of serving in this distinguished body has assumed there were some basic written rules of decorum, conduct and civility, one of which was a dress code,” Manchin said in a speech on the floor.
After the vote, Schumer said from the floor, “Though we’ve never had an official dress code, the events over the past week have made us all feel as though formalizing one is the right path forward.”
“I deeply appreciate Sen. Fetterman working with me to come to an agreement that we all find acceptable.”
After a week of defending his choice of clothing, Fetterman told CNN prior to Wednesday’s bipartisan vote that he would wear business attire during Senate votes.
Following the vote, Fetterman’s office sent out a photo of the viral meme showing actor Kevin James as the “King of Queens,” shrugging his shoulders and smirking at the camera.

Global Warming Hoax Is Big Money
Those who are not cognitively challenged or pathologically gullible may find it hard to take leftist climate ideology seriously. However, the money involved is plenty serious.
Al Gore has milked the global warming hoax for a fortune:
His wild prediction at Davos that Earth faces ‘rain bombs’ and ‘boiling oceans’ is just his latest in decades of climate alarmism. At the same time, the former VP has been at the forefront of green technology investment that has seen his wealth balloon to an estimated $330 million. Four years after losing to George W Bush in 2000, Gore set up Generation Investment Management with former Goldman Sachs Managing Director and close friend David W. Blood. The mission statement of the investment firm, where Gore collects $2 million in a monthly salary, is to back companies that are making strides towards going green. The firm is worth around $36 billion.
The Goracle’s take is chump change compared to what the left-wing globalist ruling class expects us to pay to indulge their self-serving doctrine that the weather is somehow a problem and they can control it:
As Daily Signal reported last summer,
Lawmakers grilled climate czar John Kerry on Capitol Hill… Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., said that through much of earth’s history there was more carbon in the atmosphere than today and questioned Kerry’s statements about the exact amount of carbon that’s appropriate. “In December of 2022 you told The Washington Post we need to remove 1.6 trillion tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere via direct air capture, the direct cost for that is about $1,000 per ton or $1.6 quadrillion,” Perry said. … Kerry said he disagreed with the characterization of the issue and asked Perry why so many other countries would sign on to the reduction of carbon emissions. “Because they are grifting like you are,” Perry said.
The global warming hoax may constitute the biggest grift in the history of the world. Under liberal rule, increasingly massive amounts of wealth created by Americans will be redistributed to other countries in the name of climate reparations.
But don’t worry about the expense. If taxes don’t cover it, Democrats can just print the money.
Tumblr media
John Kerry's answer is basically......"Peasant......You aren't smart like me so you couldn't possibly understand all the reasons why you're wrong. Therefore I shall not state them."

NYT reports on the article by two conservative Republican law professors saying Trump is disqualified from serving as president under US Const Amend XIV § 3, which I just posted.
+
Two conservative, Federalist Society-affiliated legal scholars, William Baude and Michael Stokes Paulsen, argue in "The Sweep and Force of Section Three," 172 U. PA. L. REV. (forthcoming 2024), that Donald J Trump is disqualified from serving as president under US Const Amend XIV § 3, and indeed it's not even a close case: "We think that if these constitutional duties are taken seriously, there is a list of candidates and officials who must face judgment under Section Three. Former president Donald Trump is at the top of that list, but he is not the end of it. As we have said, it is not for us to say who all is disqualified by virtue of Section Three’s constitutional rule. That is the duty and responsibility of many officials, administrators, legislators, and judges throughout the country. Where they are called on to decide eligibility to office, they are called on to enforce Section Three, applying the Constitution’s legal standard to the facts before them in a given instance. Our point is to emphasize Section Three’s continuing force, and broad sweep.
At all events, if a President or former President of the United States; a current or former officer of the federal executive branch; a Member or former Member of Congress; a current or former state legislator or state executive official; or a current or former federal or state court judge, planned, supported, assisted, encouraged, endorsed, or aided in a material way those who engaged in the insurrection of January 6, or otherwise knowingly and willfully participated in a broader rebellion against the constitutional system, such persons are constitutionally disqualified from office. In such situations, Section Three’s constitutional disqualifications can, should, and must be carried out." As they note, thus far only the State of New Mexico has enforced Section 3, removing from office a county commissioner who participated in the events of Jan 6 on Capitol Hill.
