“Michael was very kind to me at the outset. He put me up through the entire shooting of the pilot process. He and his wife had a wonderful little apartment just big enough for a guest on the day bed, which overlooked Hollywood. I remember a Thanksgiving Day when the air was crystal clear in a way that I’ve never seen it before or since in L.A., and you could see all the way out to Catalina. It was wonderful. That crystal clarity symbolizes the whole era for me. Mike and I wrote a few things together. We were very comradely and very buddy buddy, and it was a wonderful time, with Mike’s then wife, Phyllis, and Christian, their little infant baby. The early days of the pilot shooting were just great by my lights and I had a wonderful time.” - Peter Tork, quoted in Hey, Hey, We’re The Monkees (1996)
“I went over to Micky’s all the time, and we talked a lot about, you know, helicopters and atomic energy and the Heisenberg principle, uncertainty principle, and he had a great little recording studio. We actually wound up making a record, in his recording studio, that — splendid little record, I think.” - Peter Tork, Daydream Believers commentary

What Micky does in his secret life is to try to express himself. He has a deep need to give gifts of his own creation to others. Once he ran up to Peter Tork on the set of The Monkees and handed him a “peace symbol” pin. “This is for you,” he said, and hurried away. Peter was overwhelmed by the gift and rushed off to tell Micky so. Because he couldn’t put into words how deeply touched he was, Peter just grabbed Micky in a bear hug and spun him around.

where big time rush goes wrong is that they focus too much on the music. where the monkees went right is that you could turn on the television and see four guys in a band never play music but somehow take down an entire foreign spy operation. that’s what it’s really about

Remembering Michael and Davy on their birthdays.
“The man was unique and a huge, huge talent. We’re not going to replace him. […] [Davy] was such a little heartthrob. I don’t think people knew how bright and talented and gifted he was in all things. I’ve come to believe he was, in his own way, the smartest, most musically talented and best actor among us.” - Peter Tork, Boston Globe, May 16, 2013
“Mike and I have been back and forth with the emails […] I bore him no ill-will. I have a lot of respect and admiration and some affection for Mike. And I’m glad to be back in touch with him.” - Peter Tork, interview with Iain Lee, 2012
Q: “I’m curious about the various reunions that happened over the years. Is it safe to say that you guys were never really friends?” Peter Tork: “Oh, I don’t know. I would say I was pretty good friends with Micky, and there was a lot of love between me and Davy. I have a lot of respect for Mike Nesmith and we’ve structured ways to work together. Things rotate. It’s like having a basketball team. You know, gosh, it’s like having a championship basketball team. They go on the road every so often and do tours, you know, just exhibition tours but fortunately your music skills don’t deteriorate as fast as your basketball skills do, but I wouldn’t know what else to compare it to. We had a chance to go out together and we took it, and we had a great time, and if we were not friends at all we would not have been able to do it. We played tours months and months long: ‘86, ‘87, ‘89, ‘91, ‘92, ‘96, ‘97, 2001, 2002 and 2011, so we couldn’t have been such enemies.” - Phawker, circa 2012; re-published 2019
“[Micky] and Mike and I have a very cordial relationship and share a lot of common topics. We go to lunch together when we’re all in town and have a good time. I love and respect each of these guys in their own way, although the real joys that I shared with Davy were special. At one point we had some good hard connections but as the years rolled on, those things faded away. But I am sorry to see Davy go. He was the one member in the group that I had the strongest human connection with. I still have two guys that I love and respect left from the band, but we share a different dynamic.” - Peter Tork, Review Mag, May 27, 2016
“Well, I’ve never been really close with Michael [Nesmith] for some reason. You know, I have a lot of respect for him and admiration. But somehow we’ve never integrated. We’ve never been warm with each other. We worked together and did pretty well at it really. But Micky on the other hand, I enjoy hugely. We have some very good times together. We laugh a lot. We pay attention to what each other is doing on stage and so there’s communication there. Micky’s always been a lot of fun. Who I miss is Davy of course. Davy is the guy who…I’ve always said I loved, liked and respected [the band members] in different proportions but Davy actually kinda got my heart.” - Peter Tork, Clevescene, March 13, 2017

So I think we all can tell who my fav is LOL
Anyway I've had so much fun drawing the boys. Peter was fucking DIFFICULT though. I think it's because in my brain he's this soft squishy little jello but irl he's actually got sharp features, lol. BUT ANYWAYYYY Nez was easily the most relaxing to draw. Something about those eyes. Mm.

This clip from The Monkees will always fucking kill me
There's just... so much going on
• Mike's undies saying hello as he starts off the struggle cycle by getting his leg caught and then trying to transform into a bat until Davy helps him stand up properly (and for a brief second he's rocking a crop top)
• Peter just giving up halfway and letting gravity take over (also rocking a crop top) before he grabs the ladder again and does a split in the air before getting down
• Micky going down the ladder like it's a fireman's pole and landing on top of Peter while he's still struggling to get his head out of the ladder
• Davy carrying Micky bridal style to help him down while Peter still fumbles with his shirt
