In a world that's ever-changing, there's something timeless and precious about heirloom seeds. They are a living link to our horticultural heritage, offering a piece of history and biodiversity that's worth cherishing. 🌿🌼 Heirloom seeds are like the storybooks of our gardens. Passed down through generations, these seeds have been carefully preserved, and their unique traits and flavors have delighted gardeners for decades. They represent a living tapestry of flavors, colors, and growth habits.
Why should you consider choosing heirloom seeds? Here are a few compelling reasons:

Cultural Heritage: These seeds carry with them the history of different cultures and regions. By planting heirloom varieties, you're participating in a tradition that spans generations.
Natural Growth: Heirloom seeds are typically grown naturally, without the use of synthetic chemicals. They are a testament to the beauty of natural, sustainable gardening.

"The Ultimate Guide to Aeonium Arboreum: Everything You Need to Know About this Stunning Succulent"
Tumblr media
Introduction:
Aeonium arboreum, commonly known as tree aeonium or houseleek tree, is a unique and striking succulent plant that belongs to the Crassulaceae family. Native to the Canary Islands, this plant has gained popularity among gardeners and succulent enthusiasts for its unique rosette-shaped leaves and woody stem. In this comprehensive guide, we will discuss the origins, varieties, propagation, care, and maintenance of Aeonium arboreum.
Origins of Aeonium Arboreum: Aeonium arboreum is native to the Canary Islands, off the coast of Africa. It thrives in warm and mild climates and can be found growing in rocky areas or on cliffs. In its natural habitat, this plant can grow up to 10 feet tall and produces yellow flowers in the spring.
Varieties of Aeonium Arboreum: Aeonium arboreum comes in several varieties, each with its unique characteristics. The most popular varieties include:
Aeonium arboreum 'Atropurpureum': This variety has dark purple leaves that turn green in strong sunlight. It is one of the most popular varieties and adds a dramatic touch to any garden or indoor space.
Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkop': This variety has almost black leaves that form a striking contrast with its yellow flowers. It is a stunning plant that can add a unique touch to any garden or landscape.
Aeonium arboreum 'Variegatum': This variety has green and cream-colored leaves that are marbled with white. It is a rare and sought-after variety that can add a unique touch to any collection.
Propagation of Aeonium Arboreum: Aeonium arboreum can be propagated through stem cuttings or seeds. Stem cuttings are the most common method and are taken from the stem of a mature plant. The cuttings should be allowed to dry for a few days to form a callus before being planted in well-draining soil. Seeds can also be used, but they require more time and attention to grow.
Care of Aeonium Arboreum: Aeonium arboreum is relatively easy to care for and does well in well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. It requires occasional watering and prefers bright, indirect sunlight. Overwatering can cause root rot and other issues, so it's essential to allow the soil to dry out between waterings. This plant does not require frequent fertilization but can benefit from occasional feedings during the growing season. A balanced, water-soluble fertilizer that is high in phosphorus and potassium can be used every two to four weeks. Be sure to dilute the fertilizer to half strength to prevent over-fertilization.
Maintenance of Aeonium Arboreum: Aeonium arboreum does not require extensive pruning, but it can benefit from the removal of dead or damaged leaves or stems. Pruning can also help maintain the shape and size of the plant. Regular maintenance includes checking for pests such as mealybugs or spider mites, which can be treated with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
Tumblr media
Conclusion:
Aeonium arboreum is a unique and striking succulent plant that is easy to care for and can add a touch of drama to any garden or indoor space. By following the tips outlined in this comprehensive guide, you can ensure that your Aeonium arboreum thrives and remains healthy for years to come. With its unique colours and shapes, this plant is sure to be a conversation starter and a beloved addition to your

Today my flatmate gifted a lovely old cactus to me.
It is, apparently, more than 30 years old!
I took it out of its pot, removed the damaged part and am hoping to propagate a new, healthier plant within the next months!
